AA Connect is a podcast by the Automobile Association of South Africa dealing with issues relevant to mobility in South Africa. These podcasts provide insights into the world of transport and mobility, and introduce you to some of the relevant role-players in the sector.
AA Connect is joined in studio by Adv Johan Jonck, the founder of Arrive Alive in South Africa. Together with the AA’s Layton Beard, Jonck talks about road safety in the country, and the need for improved enforcement and education to curb what is, essentially, a national crisis on South African roads.

The Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) has been slated to come into operation on 1 July this year but so far the government and the Road Traffic Infringement Agency – the agency responsible for AARTO – have communicated little about the implementation. In this installment of AA Connect, Layton Beard is in discussion with Professor Rudolph Zinn and Jaco de Villiers. Professor Zinn is a professor of Policing and Forensic Investigation at the University of South Africa (Unisa), and a former detective. Jaco de Villiers is the CEO of Casi – a mobile armed response app which geo-locates users for quick response times. The discussion in this episode focusses on the crime situation in South Africa – specifically during and after lockdown. As a basis for the discussion is the AA’s 2nd State of Security Report which researched this topic and whose findings were released in late November. Jaco gives insights into current security trends in South Africa and how AA Armed Response is becoming an important tool for people to remain safe and secure wherever they are.
