Paul Murray
Born & bred in Leeds, Paul Murray was brought up on a healthy diet of acid house parties, illegal raves and the legendary Hacienda in Manchester.
In 1993 Paul was offered an exclusive Friday night residency at 'UpYerRonson' The Music Factory, Leeds where he gained his stripes as a leading House DJ playing alongside and gaining recognition from the likes of Sasha, Graeme Park, Paul Oakenfold, Frankie Knuckles, Tony Humphries, M-People & Sister Sledge to name just a few. He held the residency for 6 fun filled years of madness & wicked parties. Ask him now what was the highlight of his 6 years at 'UpYerRonson' and he'll tell you that every Friday was different and having clubbers actually coming to check his sets out rather than the so called 'big name' DJs was a compliment and testament to the talent & ability he has to create a vibe only that man Muzzcroft could do.
In 1996, his unique style and amazing talent got him his first summer residency at Amnesia, Ibiza where his sets on the terrace alongside Brandon Block were legendary and rocked the crowds week in week out. From his residency at Amnesia came offers to guest DJ at some of the Islands biggest clubs including Pacha, Es Paradis & Manumission and saw him regularly fly out to Majorca to play for Club Cream at their weekly night at BCM. Paul also hosted the pre-club parties at Cafe Mambo playing with some of the industries biggest DJs including Roger Sanchez, DJ Sneak & Erick Morillo.
At the end of his first full season in Ibiza in 1996, Javi the owner of Cafe Mambos offered him to return next summer and become the new season resident DJ. Paul reluctantly tuned the offer down due to work commitments back in the UK but has continued to grace the magical white Isle and guested at clubs and bars from 1997-2000 where he played at some amazing one off parties.
Paul recently brought the UpYerRonson parties out of retirement for a series of one off parties. In August 2014 he put on a special party at The Faversham, Leeds to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the residency UYR held at The Pleasure Rooms between 1994-1996. August 2015 was the 21st Anniversary of UpYerRonson's sold out party they put on at Space, Ibiza in 1995. So to celebrate that amazing day, they put on an all day / all night terrace party and set about recreating the infamous Space Terrace on the outside area of Mint Warehouse, Leeds. The party was such a success that it's been placed up there with one of the best they've ever done. UpYerRonson ARE BACK and now throw 2 annual Day & Night Terrace Parties a year (end of May bank holiday Saturday & end of August bank holiday Saturday) from 2pm-2am at Mint Warehouse, Leeds and an annual Christmas Blowout Party on Mad Friday at Mint Club, Leeds.
In December 2016, UpYerronson decided to celebrate the 21st Anniversary of their Pleasure Rooms residency by taking over the original venue (now called Bar Soba)and transformed it back into The Pleasure Rooms for one night only! They even recreated the raised mezzanine floor where the DJs had to climb up a ladder to get to. Paul said "Being up there was quite surreal looking down on the crowd below thinking that we would never of thought that 21 years later, we'd be up here again playing music to the UpYerRonson crowd!"

Following the blinding set of our longstanding Rosnon Residents Metzner & Wardy was THE original UpYerRonson, SOAK and KAOS resident DJ and Leeds legend, Marshall. Marshall played an hour of his trademark feel good grooves that sucked you in and took you on a mixing masterclass! Enjoy x
Following legendary NY DJ/Producer Lenny Fontana onto the decks were our very own Leeds' legends and long standing UYR residents, Andy Ward & Neil Metzner. The pair have been playing for UYR since waaay back in 1992, which means they have insider knowledge of each others styles and musical taste.
So when they began playing back to back sets a few years ago, although both having different styles, they clicked straight away and bounced off each other to produce some memorable sets that just keep getting better and better!
This set hits the spot again and in my opinion is the best they've played together to date. Enjoy! x
Following Dean Baker onto the decks was another DJ making his long overdue UYR debut....and they don't get much bigger than the legendary New York DJ/Producer and former resident at the infamous Studio 54 club, Mr Lenny Fontana! Lenny had to play slightly earlier than planned so wasn't able to experience the outdoor terrace at it's peak! However, his set certainly lit the fuse and took the party to the next level. So sit back or get up and get down to this great selection of gems! Enjoy x
Next on the decks and making his UpYerRonson debut was East Coast legendary DJ and Promotor Dean Baker. Dean has been on the scene since the early rave days and has put Cleethorpes and the East Coast firmly on the map by booking some of the biggest DJs to come and play for his event Better Days. The likes of Carl Cox, Graeme Park and Grant Nelson have all DJ'd there, including our very own resident DJ Marshall! Dean played a great set mixing some old classics with more up to date fresh releases and edits. Kick back and get your lugs around this. Enjoy x
Opening up our UpYerRonson Terrace Party at Mint Warehouse back in May 2019 was our longstanding resident DJ Lee James who played the perfect warm up to kick off 12 hours of feel good vibes! So sit back and enjoy the first of our live recordings. x
Following Allister Whitehead onto the decks for the first of two sets at our Day&Night Terrace Party was our regular guest and legendary New York DJ and Producer, Victor Simonelli! Victor delivered another masterclass of his trademark NY jackin beats and soulful house full of feel good vibes and energy! Take a bow NYs finest! x
Following myself onto the decks to close the terrace was a DJ who has been welcomed into the Ronson family and become a firm favourite. The legendary New York DJ Victor Simonelli. Victor played his trademark vocal US house and putting together a seamless set of new jackin beats and classic house! Unfortunately the recorders batteries died halfway though his 90 minute set which I'm absolutely gutted about because Victor absolutely rocked it. Here's the first 45 minutes. Hopefully Victor will be back next Summer to come and play for his adopted Ronson family!! Until then, sit back and enjoy the legend at work....x
Following my old mate Marshall onto the decks was myself. I decided to play an earlier set instead of my usual slot closing the terrace. I really enjoyed playing this time (8pm-9.30pm)as I felt more relaxed and could soak up the atmosphere and have a boogie on the dance floor when I came off! The sun had gone down and dusk was slowly turning into the night when I hit the decks. There's something really special about playing outside, the crowd seem more up for it and they really connect with the DJs! Its hard getting into the right head space from Promotor to DJ and sometimes I'm not in that space until I'm stood there just about to go on....so here's my set recorded live on the terrace. Marsh played a trademark seamless set of forgotten classics, deep US house and new jackin beats thrown in to keep it fresh....enjoy! x
The crowd had just been treated to a trademark party set from Jeremy and the atmosphere from the crowd was electric!! Picking up the reigns from Jeremy Healy were two of the original Ronson resident DJs, Andy Ward & Neil Metzner who treated the crowd to a back to back set of forgotten gems, fresh edits and Ronson classics....enjoy!! x
Following the wicked opening set from our residents Lee James & Garry Dabill was a DJ who used to be a regular guest at UpYerRonson and even hosted the infamous 12 Nights of Summer Party at The Pleasure Rooms in 1996....he was back making his first UYR appearance in over 20 years....the legend that is Jeremy Healy!! Jeremy played the 5pm-6.30pm set on the Terrace so one would think he'd take it easy and play some cool summer terrace vibes...don't be silly, this is Jeremy Healy we're talking about, THE best PARTY DJ who always plays a set that will make you dance whatever time of day it is!! So sit back or rather get up and have a boogie to the original Superstar DJ, Mr Jeremy Healy! x
UpYerRonson residents Lee James & Garry Dabill were given the honour of opening our End of Summer Terrace Party at Mint Warehouse and they did not disappoint. The boys played back 2 back for 2 hours and set the tone perfectly for the day and night ahead....this is a masterclass on how warm up DJs create a vibe and fill a dance floor from an empty space at the start of the party to a full dance floor at the end of their set to make way for Jeremy Healy....sit back and relive the start of what was a truly epic party!! x

After Victor Simonelli had torn the terrace a new a-hole, it was time for one of our original UpYerRonson guest DJs from back in the day to make his long overdue trip return to his extended family in Leeds, Nick Hussey.
Nick has been in this scene longer than most and has not only played all over the world as a DJ, he has produced and remixed some huge artists which has culminated in him getting signed up to one of the worlds biggest and respected dance record labels, DEFECTED!
Nick was given the honour of opening up the main room and getting the place ready for one of the true pioneers of the house music scene, Steve "Silk" Hurley. So no pressure then....!! Nick produced a set that had energy and feel good vibes from the off....he dropped some of his own exclusive remixes, edits and bootlegs to keep the crowd going until the arrival (albeit at a slightly delayed time) of the man himself!
If you weren't there to witness his set, Nick will be back to play another rocking' set on Saturday 26th August alongside fellow Mancunian and Hacienda legend, Tom Wainwright!

So here's the final set from arguably the best Terrace Party yet. Every single set was on point and the energy and vibe from the crowd was next level. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the UpYerRonson crowd is truly unique....everyone is there for the right reasons. There's no pretence, no VIP bollocks, no attitude...just happy, smily faces who unite as one big family....the Ronson Family! Following Marshall's sublime set was one of New Yorks original House Movement DJ's & Producers, Mr Victor Simonelli. He tore the terrace a new a-hole with selection of his trademark New York jackin' house beats and stone cold classics that were put together effortlessly. I found the mic recording that I thought I had lost so you can hear the crowd going off in the background!!

So when Marshall had finished playing a sublime and seamless set of deep house gems to get the dance floor packed and locked in the groove, he handed over the baton to me to continue the job he had started.
I always and I mean ALWAYS stress out so much in the build up to my nights because I want them to be perfect in every way!! I'm so wrapped up in promoting that I don't get time to think about what I'm going to play...that sometimes happens right up until the moment I'm due to go on and play, and this was one of those times....!! It was another unforgettable night that was made that extra bit special due to the fact we held our residency at the same venue some 23 years earlier from 1994-1996.
Opening up the party at 10pm-12am were our longstanding resident DJs Andy Ward & Neil Metzner who have been with us from the very beginning....they never fail to get the party rocking and set the tone perfectly with a seamless mix of forgotten dubs and rare house grooves to welcome the crowd to the iconic upstairs room at the former Pleasure Rooms Club.
So sit back, crank it up and relive some of the best times of our lives....and for those too young to remember the first time around, this is a taste of how we did things nearly 25 years ago!! WOW! x
Here's the live recording of my set at the recent Hard Times Pre-Party at 53 Degrees North, Leeds on Saturday 4th February 2017. I played from 7pm-11pm and this is the last 3 hours or so packed with a sprinkling of 90's house bombs alongside some newer bits. Hope you dig...! x
Closing the terrace and handing over the reigns to the Soak DJs to continue the party in the main room was yours truly. This set was purely off the cuff which you can probably tell as some of the mixes are a bit rough around the edges as opposed to a pre-rehearsed, key perfect DJ set that's been practiced so many times the DJ is just going through the motions playing it, which is something I've never done! When all the DJs are playing classics there's no point thinking about what you're gonna play until you're up there and get a feel for the crowd and the vibe. Not only that, if you pre-plan a set and the DJs before you plays the same tunes, you're a bit stuck! :)
Although the outdoor terrace resembled a lake in some parts, it didn't dampen the spirits of the crowd and they were as up for it as ever which makes DJ'ing a real pleasure when you look up and a sea of happy, smiling faces, all feeling the vibe and connecting to the music are looking back at you!
Big-ups to Caine from Soak for all the hard work and support. With the history the two parties have from back in the day, the day & night complimented each other perfectly and made for a great event...

Following the sublime opening set on the outdoor terrace from our long standing residents Andy Ward & Neil Metzner, we had one of our longstanding Ibiza residents and good friend, Jason Bye. This was Bysies third appearance in 12 months for UYR and every time he has played, he's delivered a masterclass in how to rock a party. Jason played the 5.30pm-7.00pm slot for this party as he had to fly back for DJ commitments in Ibiza later that night. But it didn't stop him dropping some of his trademark Terry's, jackin' beats and stone cold classic house that got the terrace rockin'
So get this bad boy on and turn it up LOUD!! x

It's useless trying to prepare yourself and sort a set out because one of the disadvantages of going on last is that a lot of the 'big tunes' will no doubt have already been played. So I just had to keep myself fairly sober and just play as I normally do...by feeding off the vibe of the crowd and doing my own thing! Following on from Marshall is a guy who we've known since the crazy days of UpYerRonson in Ibiza back in 1994. He was the resident DJ at Cafe Mambo at the time and he caught our attention as someone who knows a good tune when he plays one. Since then, Bysie has been a regular DJ at our Ibiza parties we've put on in Mambo's, Es Paradis, Space & Amnesia.
Jason absolutely rocked the Mint Warehouse Terrace when he made his UK Ronson debut back in August 2015, so we got him back for his second appearance in May 2016 and tore the terrace to pieces with a sublime selection of Ibiza classic terry's from the 90's including a few cheeky productions of his own. So get ready to experience a lesson in how to rock a party...Ibiza style! Give it up for Jason Bye...x

This is how it went down when Up Yer Ronson took over the Mint Warehouse in Leeds and threw an 'Ibiza Reunion All Day & All Night Terrace Party'. To truly capture the Ibiza vibe, you need to have an outdoor terrace! So we set about recreating the most famous Ibiza terrace of them all...Space Terrace (pre-roof). Then we installed a Funktion One sound system and decked it out with camo netting. The music was supplied by some of Ibiza's original Space residents, Brandon Block, Alex p & Jason Bye with added percussive beats from Manumission legend Pav...all supported by the talented long standing resident DJs, Leeds legend Marshall, Paul Murray, Neil Metzner, Andy Ward & Lee James.
Opening up the sun kissed outdoor terrace at 3.30pm playing back 2 back were Andy Ward & Neil Metzner who played wicked selection of forgotten gems which set up the vibe perfectly for the day/night ahead. Turn it up LOUD and relive this unbelievable party! Enjoy x

This is the final recording from upstairs...I had come just come off the decks after playing 1am-2am and the plan was for me and Andy Ward to play an hour set downstairs 'for old times sake', as it was the floor we both made our own back when we held our UYR parties there. We started playing back to back and enjoyed it so much we ended up staying on 'til 4am. Which meant upstairs was left in the capable hands of Marshall & Neil Metzner playing back to back for 2 hours from 2am-4am. Marsh said afterwards that it felt so surreal being back up in the DJ box that he played in every Friday night, warming up for some of the biggest DJ names in clubland. But this night was all about the residents and I'm sure you'll agree, they all played unbelievable sets that made it feel like you had gone back in time 21 years to one of the best nights and venues in the country...UpYerRonson every Friday at The Pleasure Rooms, Leeds!! Not only did we have the main room upstairs, we also had the ground floor downstairs. We used the same entrance from the Grand Arcade as we did all those years ago and although the building that housed the old Pleasure Rooms was a bit smaller now due to some of it being sold off to other shops and buisnesses, you still felt you had stepped back in time to a crazy Friday night some 21 years ago.
Following on from Lee James' wicked set was myself & Andy Ward. The initial plan was to play an hour downstairs from 2am-3am 'just for old times sake' as that floor was OUR FLOOR where we played a solid 6 hours every Friday night without the need for guest DJs. I recall one night we were playing to a packed floor and was told we had to close because a certain 'big name' DJ was upstairs playing to an empty room. My reply was full of expletives but it went along the lines of 'he's getting paid 10 times what we get paid so he should be good enough to keep the crowd on his dance floor'...no such dramas this time around though...apart from I did my usual trick of putting a few records on and then going for a wander and forgetting to come back haha...here's me and Wardy doing what we use to do best...rock a party! On 27th December 2015, Up Yer Ronson returned to their spiritual home at The Pleasure Rooms, Leeds for a one off 'Homecoming Party'...it was one of the best parties we have put on and SOLD OUT with weeks still to go. The venue is now called Bar Soba but as soon as you walked through those doors you knew you were back at the place we arguably had our best years from 1994-1996. We installed a Funktion One sound system, had a custom made DJ booth, raised high above the dance floor, just like the one we played in 21 years ago!! The atmosphere was next level and the added nostalgia of being back in our old stomping ground topped it off! This picture was taken at the end of the night when the lights had been switched back on. Following Neil Metzner's seamless vinyl set was the man who made this room his own back in the day...this was Marshall's floor and seeing him stood up in the DJ booth some 21 years after he last played there was a proper surreal moment. Was diggin' through some of my favourite tracks I used to play at Up Yer Ronson the other day and hit record whilst having a lil jam at home...all off the cuff with no pre-planned set in mind or any rehearsed mixes...I wasn't going to release it as it's not a polished mix but I kinda like that as it adds to the authenticity of it...especially now we live in the days of sync buttons and beat / key perfect mixing thanks to the DJ software available...hope you dig....feel free to leave a comment and share amongst your friends! x

Here's a mix I found on my hard drive that I recorded for Galaxy 105 waaaay back in 1997 some 18 years ago!! To be fair, with the resurgence of the House & Garage sound from the 90's making a come back through the likes of Disclosure and Second City, some of the tracks on this mix wouldn't sound out of place dropped in my sets now. Have a listen and leave a comment if you dig! x The mix was recorded using vinyl (remember those black circular plastic discs)on 3 x Technics 1210's and a basic Numark 3 channel mixer.
So the final set of the night was left up to yours truly and with it proper going off in The Faversham it was a good time to play a few stone cold Ronson classics for the last half an hour of the night...I had a big smile on my face all the way through. Big ups to every single one of the crowd who came and partied and made it such a special night. Every single DJ played an absolute blinder of a set and it could not have gone better. So after all 4 DJ's had played absolute blinding sets, we decided to all play another 30 minutes each for the last 2 hours of the night. By this point the crowd were proper going for it on the dance floor so it was time to bring out the bangers and give em it for the last few hours....following myself on the decks was my old Pleasure Rooms DJ partner Andy Ward who went straight in dropping an absolute belter of a tune by Jump - Funkatarium...enjoy! x

Following on from the wicked set Marshall played was always going to be a big ask and when you go on after all 3 of the UYR DJ's who all rocked the place the pressure was on to deliver. The Faversham was absolutely jumping by the time I took to the decks so it was just a case of keeping the vibe alive...they were still dancing by the time I came off so I did alright haha....hope you enjoy cos it was certainly fun playing that's for sure!
