Back on the Couch after a week's break. This week I pay my respects in light of he unexpected and untimely passing of Chadwick Boseman. I also pay my respects to a legend in the game of basketball, John Thompson. I discuss grief and why it makes sense to grieve people we've never met before. I also explore what we can do when we need to care for ourselves when the news is too much to bare.

This week on the Couch, I look at how we can redefine Misogyny and how women's sexual, political, and personal freedoms are often seen as threats to the social construct of masculinity and male dominance. I begin exploring the "Black Male Privilege Checklist" and how male privilege still extends to black men. I look at the science and psychology about misogyny and how upholding misogynistic themes and power can lead to poor health outcomes.

This week on the podcast, I take inspiration from previous episodes where I explored emotional intelligence and healing needed in interpersonal and romantic relationships. This I look at what happens in romantic relationships when that healing doesn't happen. Thanks to the like of Draya Michelle and T.I., I'm looking at "Struggle Love". I examine how trauma and unhealthy relationships of the past can set us up for struggle love. I examine signs of emotional abusive relationships. I look at how we can learn to love differently and more healthy in our romantic relationships by highlighting why differentiation of self is important in romantic relationships.

This week on the Couch, I look Cognitive Dissonance. I'm sure you've heard the term a lot because of Agent Orange, but I'll explain what it is and why it can cause you to change the way you think or behave (like I did) or cause to ignore new information (like 45 and his followers do). I also look at the act of admitting you're wrong, why it can be hard to do, and how you can improve your ability to admit that you're wrong. Note: I'm still looking for feedback from moms (especially black moms) who have experienced postpartum depression. This week from the friendly confines of the couch, I take a look at the penultimate episode of Season 4 of #InsecureHBO. I look at what you should be doing to work to resolve an argument with a friend. I look at the major don't. And I dispel the myth of ultimatums being an effective tool for resolving conflict. I look at how ultimatums can be destructive to your relationship and how a terribly laid ultimatum nearly ended Molly and Issa's friendship. Whew Chile!!!!!! This week on the Couch that's really comfortable to watch #InsecureHBO on I explore how vital communication in friendships can be. I look at myths that we commonly hold for friendships. I also examine signs that your friendship just might not be really well balanced. I look at signs that your friendship is in serious danger of ending (or maybe should come to an end). I use this season's turmoil between Molly and Issa on Insecure as a backdrop for exploring these concepts.

Welcome back, everyone.  The Captain needed to recharge the batteries and catch up on #InsecureHBO.  This week on the show, I look at Episode 3 of Season 4 as inspiration for this week's topic.  I explore why Lawrence needs to stop having conversations in kitchen and also why he's very much likely not over Issa.  I give some subtle signs of how Lawrence (or yourself) might not be over an ex.  I also explore some strategies and tips to help the healing process.  I even give some perspective on Condola and her current desire not to get remarried.  Articles used in this episode: https://www.elitedaily.com/p/the-1-thing-you-should-do-after-a-breakup-that-changes-everything-according-to-therapists-11993387 https://thoughtcatalog.com/elizabeth-stone/2016/03/15-little-signs-you-havent-let-go-of-your-ex-yet/ https://www.oprahmag.com/life/a25858170/tips-for-dating-after-divorce/ How to find the podcast: Currently on iTunes, Spotify, Google Podcast, iHeartRadio, Breaker, Stitcher, Overcast, PocketCasts, Podcasts in Color, and RadioPublic.     Follow me on social media: @captainscouch and @capt_ingenuity on Twitter,  @capt_ingenuity on IG, and The Captain’s Couch page on FB.   Leave 5 star reviews on iTunes and Stitcher.  You can contact the podcast with feedback @ captainscouch84@gmail.com.  You can also leave feedback by using the hashtag #thecaptainscouch on IG, FB, and Twitter. Use the hashtag #podin if you’re tweeting about the show as well.

In the first of probably several episodes about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, I present a 2013 longitudinal study that gives us the reality of ADHD diagnoses in black youth.
