Revive Ministries: Recent Episodes

Revive Ministries is essentially under the medical missionary umbrella focusing on emotional and mental well-being, although we do not proselytize. We started podcasting in October 2019. With 150+ hours of content, we listened to many stories of recovery and learned many lessons to move forward. We have a focused series each month, like "It's Okay to Fall," "It's Not The End... Finding Hope," "Processing Our Pain: Tribute to PTSD Month," "Healing Our Community: Tribute to National Wellness Month," and several others. Welcome to Revive Ministries Podcast; this month’s theme is “The Silent Pain” to recognize and bring awareness to Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month, which is observed in the States but also an increasingly tough topic for those suffering and their families.

The term “PTSD” first appeared in 1980 in the third edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. However, earlier medical publications referred to conditions described as “soldier’s heart,” “shell shock,” and “war neurosis.” With the prevalence of PTSD in the military community, it is not surprising that the effort to create awareness was launched as a tribute to a service member. On June 27, 2010, PTSD Awareness Day was established in recognition of Staff Sergeant, Joe Biel, a National Guard service member who experienced PTSD after two tours in Iraq and died by suicide in 2007. In 2014, the federal government designated the entire month of June as PTSD Awareness Month.

Welcome to Revive Ministries Podcast. As we go into May, we are reminded of how far mental health has come since the turn of the 20th century to where we are today. However, there is still so much work left to be done. Last month, I mentioned this African Proverb, and I feel it is still relevant to this month’s theme.

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with others.” – African proverb.

“Remembering Our Names” is a response I felt having struggled in my life with mental health issues. The idea is that mental health can be inconvenient and a struggle for the individual and family/support to adjust. Several factors may play a role in a person getting appropriate help. At times the questions of why we care about mental health is simpler: the individual who suffering is a daughter, son, wife husband, parent whose quality and value does not diminish due to them having a mental health condition, and to instead remember their names in our lives first. This month, we will discuss and/or share experiences that promote a community that supports those struggling with a mental health condition together, as the African proverb states.

Today, Christine Samuel is here to discuss this matter with us. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights with us today.

Today we had Jonathan Niziol here to discuss this matter with us.

Short Bio;

Jonathan's journey took a dramatic turn after the sudden passing of his mother just before his 21st birthday, followed by the heartbreaking loss of three close friends and a traumatic experience of sexual assault during a casting as an adult. These events triggered a downward spiral spanning over a decade, marked by battles with alcohol and drug addiction, panic disorder, anxiety, and depression, impacting every facet of his life from jobs to relationships. Today, he celebrates 15 years of sobriety from alcohol and 6 1/2 years free from all other substances. As an esteemed international model, he has become a beacon of inspiration within the fitness and wellness community, known for his genuine and supportive demeanor that touches those around him. Yet, he remains determined to extend his impact even further.

Mental Health is complicated. Some remember that a person's identity does not stem from their mental health condition but rather from the individual themselves—their names.

Our stories can provide understanding and healing forward. Our stories can motivate and inspire. Stories are powerful, but how we respond and understand our stories can shape how we see the work around us.

Last month we discussed the importance of building a home and the differences between a house and home. Today we are going to discuss and remind ourselves of the importance that stories can have in finding hope.

Today we have a new guest with us to discuss this topic, Caroline Haldeman. Thank you for joining us and sharing your insight with us today.

Service and community work hand in hand with the community. In a macro sense, living in a safe community feels nice. In a more micro sense, it can be the difference between feeling supported and not. Sadly, the number of people that surround us do not guarantee that we feel connected.

Disclaimer: if you are in crisis, please seek appropriate professional help immediately. The new 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available for those in the States.

More on Brea:

Visit our Website:

www.DearSelfCo.us

You can find our social media links on there as well!

Our mission is to create and provide tools as the proactive approach to providing simple spiritual health and mental health management from home. We help raise awareness of the silent struggles and start the desperately needed conversations about spiritual and mental health. We connect those who struggle with each other to form a community to foster growth and change. Oftentimes mental health resources are coming from people who do not understand it or have been trained and educated from a textbook perspective not from somebody who's been in the trenches. That's why Dear Self Co. is so special, because it's made for people like me and I'm just like you.

We’re not just a clothing brand, we don’t just sell journals, we don’t just have a blog. We are a brand dedicated to:

  • Educate the community about mental illnesses and the effects and experiences of those who suffer with them
  • Increase Awareness of the commonality of mental health struggles
  • Validate experiences of those who have had battles with mental illness
  • Normalize conversations about mental and spiritual health
  • Provide tools and services to prevent and decrease suicide attempts and thoughts; manage symptoms and effects of anxiety, PTSD, depression, and add; and provide services and tools to improve spiritual health, growth and development
  • Empower people tp healthily manage their mental & spiritual health from the comfort of their own homes
  • Foster self-discovery

And self-improvement through biblical truth and education of healthy lifestyles and practices

Welcome to Revive Ministries Podcast. We are wrapping up the theme “Processing our Pain: Tribute to PTSD Month.” PTSD was only recognized a few decades ago as an illness that doesn’t derive from human weakness.

The idea is how we process that pain can shape the kind of healing we may receive in the long run. Today, we have a returning guest Sebastian here to wrap up this month’s theme “Processing Our Pain: Tribute to PTSD Awareness Month.”

Welcome to Revive Ministries Podcast, today we are wrapping up our topic on family and recovery. Families can be the most supportive component to one’s recovery or the least. The issues are at times families can be that stumbling block that doesn’t allow an individual to be an active part of their recovery, but at the same time families can be that steadfast home that helps those in recovery in the harshest storms. Today I will be wrapping up this topic on my own sharing my own insight and what I have learned from others.

Welcome to Revive Ministries Podcast. Today we will be revisiting a monthly theme just 1 year ago in Oct 2020, it’s ok to fall. It is interesting how when we think of failing it attaches a bit to our value. Success I have found unfortunately has nothing to do with the person trying to obtain that “success” but more on the perspective of what success is. Today we have Amelia returning with us today to share her insight and experience on the theme.

Welcome to Revive Ministries Podcast, this month we continue discussing holding onto to hope tribute to recovery month and suicide prevention week. Welcome to Revive Ministries Podcast. Today we continue the discussion of securing our value regarding our overall wellness. I have heard a lot of times in mental health that there is no quick fix and most treatment is very individualized, which is true from my own experience. However, the same can be said in physical health and overall health. Value plays a deep role in a client’s life in getting the help one needs. Today I have a good friend Jasmine joining me and sharing her insight on this topic as we pay tribute to National Wellness Month.

"Acclimatic Restorative Coaching: Solving Media Overload".

"If 2020 has taught us nothing else, it has shown us that the biggest source of modern traumas may be in our own back pockets. Due to our smart devices, we can become so immersed in traumatic information that we can feel like a leaf while the media is the wind. Acclimated Restorative Coaching (ARC) offers a solution to regaining control of your life while still being informed. ARC is a talk-therapy/life-coaching technique that was created by an actual TV-news insider, and is the world's first mental-health approach to be designed from inside the media looking out, rather than the outside looking in. This book teaches behind-the-scenes media techniques, how overexposure to them can affect the brain, and best yet; how to find happiness again! The book is perfect for anyone and everyone, especially workers in the health industry and media workers themselves! ARC - it's time to put mind over media!"

Welcome to Revive Ministries Podcast, today we continue our talk about “Remembering Our Wellness” a Tribute to Mental Health Awareness Month. We as humans have an amazing ability to forget, sometimes that is triggered by a trauma or sometimes can be in our nature to avoid topics that can be messy. Mental health can be messy from my experience. Today we have a returning guest joining us today, all the way from Palestine.

Last time you were on, we talk a lot about Stigma, now as Mental Health Awareness Month dawns on the USA it reminds me of the struggle to maintain the discussion and not to forget.

Welcome to Revive Ministries, this month we are “Remembering our Wellness” which I feel sheds light on the fact that we as humankind have an amazing ability to forget from my experience. That thought has been one of many reasons I value facilitating my peers in support groups. It helps me remember and adopt the idea of a Journey towards Wellness, not a Destination. Today I have a returning guest with us to share her insight with us today.

Welcome to Revive Ministries, today we begin the discussion on “Remembering Our Wellness” a Tribute to Mental Health Awareness Month. We as human nature have an incredible capacity to forget. The Highs and Lows in life can produce moments both good and bad. Mental Health is always near and dear to me since I myself am a peer living with Mental Illness for about 2 decades. Today we have 2 guests with us today, new to the podcast we have Richard Marquis.

Disclaimer: if you are in crisis please seek appropriate professional help immediately, the crisis hotline is the USA is 1-800-273-8255 National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

It begins with the people, each face, each family that is attached to those faces. Like I said in the Revive Ministries Blog “We are not islands; pain, loss, fear, and shame are things that uniquely pass all boundaries and cultures, and (unfortunately) it is relatable.” Why do we care about Mental Health? It’s the people, and I feel that is the best way to remember this month.

Welcome to Revive Ministries Podcast. Today we have a new guest continuing the discussion on Springing Forward to Wellness, Dr. Krishna. Coping skills can be tremendously helpful for those struggling in recovery but today with so much uncertainty and urgency, finding ways to cope is I vital for most everyone. Dr. Krishna has an app called Relaxx and he shares a bit of intermittent silence and its benefits. Slowing down at the very least can be very helpful for all of us.

Revive Ministries is excited to start December with returning guest Mike to discuss hope during the holidays. The title is suggestive but gets to the root that even though some may find the holidays and family exciting, I know that the holidays can be the most depressing time for those in recovery. The things that bring us the most joy can also bring us the most pain. We also touch upon some coping skills that have helped both of us in recovery.

Revive Ministries Podcast is excited to have Ms. Hunte as a guest. We explore the concept of helping relationships and how that pertains to working and helping those in recovery.  We are not islands, and we must be intentional to those who are suffering. Relationship matters and are a huge part of recovery. A resource that was mentioned: National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-8255 Also, it was mentioned that primary care centers are adding a mental health wellness screening with patients, which is helping bridge the gap between physical health and mental health. Why Should We Care? Because we can't afford not too.

Welcome to Robert’s Corner! Today we will be talking about Covid-19 and how it impacts us socially today and, in turn, its impacts on our overall wellness.

"If your emotional abilities aren’t in hand, if you don’t have self-awareness, if you are not able to manage your distressing emotions, if you can’t have empathy and have effective relationships, then no matter how smart you are, you are not going to get very far."

– Daniel Goleman

How we think and feel and adapt in life is huge. My recovery wasn’t just one thing, but multiple things working together. Is it perfect? Nope. Looking at socializing, it can be hugely stressful with many unrealistic expectations. The late Bob Marley said it this way:

"Truth is everybody is going to hurt you: you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for."

- Bob Marley

At the same time, being super-careful won't help either. Fear has made us look at things with one solution. Social distancing is hard, sure, with Covid-19; but I would say social distancing and feeling isolated has always been a struggle for many--including me.

Thank you again for listening to Robert’s Corner.

Welcome to Revive Ministries Podcast! Today on Robert’s Corner, we are continuing our journey through and after Covid-19, regarding Mental Health Recovery. This is the last day of Mental Health Month and is a reminder of how far we have come and how much more we are still striving for in the future of Mental Health Awareness.

Disclaimer: If you are in crisis, please seek immediate medical attention.

"Give yourself time to heal from a challenge you’ve been dealt with. Letting go of hurt doesn’t happen overnight. It happens in slow, small steps forward. Plus a few steps backward at times. Be gentle and patient with yourself."

Today on Robert’s Corner, I talk about hope and why it’s vital for our recovery during and after a storm like Covid-19. Hope is seen like something that happens after a storm takes a positive turn forward. However, that is not always the case for how things are today.

Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional, so if you are in crisis, please seek professional medical attention.

I always like starting my episodes with a quote:

“The pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”

- Winston Churchill

Perception is an interesting thing. I said this in a previous episode that someone’s good news is another’s bad news. This month is Mental Health Month. Being a facilitator for NAMI, we know the last principle of support: “We never give up hope.” I find hope very useful in times of crisis and days like now. The idea of hope is fundamentally healing. It was a huge step to say that I am actually looking forward to what is next.

Next week we will continue this journey deeper in hope and its impact on us, during and after the storm.

Welcome to Revive Ministries Podcast, on today’s episode of Robert’s Corner I will dive deeper into forgiveness through Covid-19. We will primarily focus on forgiving others and why it is important now. And How that may have an impact on our own wellness.

Disclaimer I am not a Medical Professional so if you are in crisis please seek immediate medical attention.

Forgiving others can be very helpful especially now. As we still observe caution in regards to Covid-19 it may be easy to cast blame or resentment on others who might have hurt you. With fear and suspicion being broadcast worldwide it may seem easier to hate or despise others who may have wronged you intentionally or not. Just like the quote, in the beginning, not allowing yourself to forgive will only compromise your own wellness. I encourage you to investigate forgiveness as a viable option for your wellness.

Today on Revive Ministries Podcast My Story of Recovery series, I welcome back my lovely fiancée, Joann, as she shares her experience through the grief of her mother and the challenges that came after. It is a journey that helps Joann grow.

We both explore priorities and how our experiences shape who we become. However, there is room for growth in experiences, and that is what Joann shares with us today.

“Grief is like the ocean; it comes in waves ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm, and sometimes it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn to swim.”

Welcome to Revive Ministries Podcast! Today I share a little more about my story of recovery--but this time, I share in more detail the turning point situations in my life that were monumental in where I am now personally in my recovery.

"Live life as though nobody is watching and express yourself as though everyone is listening."

- Nelson Mandela

I dive into a year before moving to Florida to now. I share what insight I have learned and how I have grown along the way.

It's a shorter version of the My Story series, but an appropriate one. The first episode of My Story series was my personal story, covering chronologically where I have been and now.

Knowing that my original My Story episode spanned decades, I decide to hone in a more concentrated story of a short segment, which ties storytelling with insightful lessons I have learned along the way.

Periodically I may share a more focused story and insight into my journey through recovery, which will continue to develop as time continues.

I do encourage to stay updated with current episodes of Revive Ministries Podcast at

Revive Ministries Podcast is excited to have Robert Gallant with us today, sharing his story of recovery. Robert Gallant was addicted to alcohol and other drugs for close to 20 years. He was also homeless for 3 of those years. It wasn't until he was arrested for a horrible crime that Robert realized how badly his actions and addiction were affecting others. In today’s episode of Robert’s Corner, we dive into the importance of structure in regards to time and boundaries in regards to the current coronavirus situation we are all in. The structure regarding boundaries and time doesn’t mean you also flood yourself with the project that has been ignored. I encourage you to include them in your day but also look at times to connect with people digitally. Incorporate some fun time, too. Whatever balance that works for you. I find this has been helpful for my recovery, even before this whole coronavirus became global.

“It’s really clear that the most precious resource we all have is time.”

- Steve Jobs
