For many business owners, the idea of “selling” can feel pushy, aggressive… or even sleazy. “We all start in business thinking we’re going to do what we love and it’s going to be great, but there’s so many other parts that we didn’t expect... We need to bounce back easy from these things.”

— Julie Greenham

If I were to ask you what you believe to be the #1 trait that you need in order to run your business effectively, what would you say?

Most people believe that “confidence” is the top trait of successful business owners. I happen to have a different opinion!

As business owners, we don’t often start off feeling confident. The early days of a start-up can be nerve wracking — and so can many of the days that we experience after years of running established businesses! Confidence is something that grows over time, so I don’t think it’s the most helpful way to frame success.

I think that the #1 trait that contributes to success is resiliency.

It’s resiliency, not confidence, that helps us keep going after setbacks, challenges, and even failures. Resiliency is what helps us turn mistakes into opportunities for growth. In this episode, I share 3 tips that will help you build your own resiliency in your business!

It all starts right now — just press play!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • The two questions that you should be asking yourself right now regarding your business
  • Why you should invest energy into building a circle of business buddies, rather than just friends and family
  • How to switch from a victim perspective to a results perspective

Is “confidence” a part of what you deliver to your clients through your offers? For example: the confidence to appear on camera, the confidence to lose weight, or the confidence to take the steps to grow and scale their businesses.

You may believe that confidence is a key part of your offers — that the boost in confidence is what your customers are looking for and paying for. You may believe that this should play a major role in your messaging and marketing. This is something that I believed for a long time, too.

But here’s the truth: confidence alone does NOT sell.

Being “confident” in something sounds wonderful, but it’s a very vague statement. Instead of talking about how confident someone will feel after working with you, you should instead be thinking about what they’ll be able to DO with that confidence!

Want to dig a little deeper? All you have to do is press play!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • My own journey of discovery regarding the importance of confidence when it comes to crafting my messaging
  • How to articulate the true value of your offers beyond the confidence your clients will achieve
  • Why you need to dig deeper into what your customers TRULY want from your services

“We really need to be in that receiving mode in order for us to hear… we need to be in that open mode.”

— Julie Greenham

Is content creation a constant source of stress for you? Do you find yourself worrying that you sound like a broken record — or that your audience may be getting tired of hearing from you?

Many of us definitely feel the pressure to create fresh, new content for our audiences each and every week. If we’ve already spoken about a topic, we feel that we need to toss it into the “been there, done that” pile and never speak of it again!

But the truth is that while WE may feel this way… our audiences do NOT.

Revisiting topics can actually be very beneficial, in fact! Repetition is a key factor in teaching and learning — often, we don’t FULLY understand or remember things until we’ve heard them multiple times. This kind of repetition can help us get a deeper grasp of a topic and even begin to see it through a different perspective.

Press play on this episode to learn more about the value of repetition… and how to keep older information forever fresh and interesting!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • Why an audience member’s current state of mind matters when it comes to being able to truly receive your message
  • A real-life, personal example of why someone may not be able to receive a message — and how that can change
  • How to take past information and make it new and compelling!

Highlights:‌ ‌

02:11 Receiving mode

04:38 Openness & repetition

It takes a lot of inner work to become more comfortable putting yourself out there as the face of your brand, especially when you’re trying to gain more exposure and raise your profile. “All of your luggage, all of your bags that you have in your personal life, you bring into your corporate or your business life.”

— Julie Greenham

Is your personal baggage holding your business back?

As much as we may like to think that we have a professional version of ourselves AND a personal version, our personal lives and our businesses are interconnected. Many aspects of our personal lives can affect the choices we make in our businesses — including our values and unconscious beliefs.

Sometimes, this is helpful. But sometimes, we need to take a step back and evaluate.

Evaluate whether we are feeling aligned in our business in terms of our values.

Evaluate whether a fear of rejection is holding us back from great opportunities.

Evaluate how often we’re making choices based on OUR strengths, rather than the strengths of others.

In order to heal potentially harmful influences, you first need to recognize them. In this episode, I give you the tools that you need to get started!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • 3 areas you need to examine in order to discover how your personal baggage is influencing the way you run your business
  • A real-life example of how my personal fear of rejection affected the creation of my professional community

“In our business journey and in our personal lives as well, we have highs and lows… The key to dealing with those lows is to plan ahead.”

— Julie Greenham

How do you reenergize and replenish once you’ve worked to the point of losing motivation and drive? How do you come out of a dry spell engaged and ready to serve your clients?

These are questions that have come up recently in The Quiet Powerhouse Membership, and I know that many introverted entrepreneurs deal with them regularly.

When we’re faced with large To-Do lists, challenging obstacles, or even a run of grey, gloomy days, it can be easy to feel uninspired, unmotivated, or overwhelmed. Unfortunately, the longer it takes to get back on track, the more our To-Do lists can pile up… making everything feel even more daunting!

In this episode, I share 3 simple ways to regain your motivation so that you can continue to grow your business, with real-life examples of entrepreneurs overcoming their motivation challenges.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • What “motivation toxicity” is — and how it can actually hurt entrepreneurs

“The truth is that our focus and clarity is so much better when we’re working on ONE thing. We’re able to come so much faster to the completion line when we’re working on one thing.”

— Julie Greenham

Do you spend more time in your business on administrative tasks than on bringing your vision to life and creating impact for your clients?

This is the second in a series of episodes on productivity. Last week (episode #95), I talked about 3 techniques that you can implement right now to boost your productivity sustainably, without exhaustion or overwhelm — if you haven’t heard that episode, I recommend that you go back and listen!

This week, I share two more sustainable, healthy productivity-elevating techniques that will make a MAJOR difference in the way that you run your business!

Integrating automation into your business is one of the best ways to ensure that the time you spend working in AND on your business delivers the highest amount of value. If you’re spending your time rewriting emails that should be templates, or manually posting to social media when you could be using a scheduler, then those tasks are taking your energy away from the activities that truly move the needle in your business!

I promise you this: your skills and time are far too valuable to devote to repetitive administrative tasks.

Press play to learn how to let go of the activities that are holding you back from taking your business to the next level — and why investing in technology is a long-term money-saver.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • How and where to effectively build automation into your business (even if you’re not the most tech-minded person)
  • Simple ways to cut down on repetitive tasks, from creating email templates to setting up pricing menus

“It’s ingrained in us to believe in the hustle mentality, like doing more is productive — when actually, it is quite the opposite.”

— Julie Greenham

What are the top 3 high-performance habits that you can implement right now in order to increase your everyday productivity?

They may not be what you think!

As entrepreneurs, especially entrepreneurs with online businesses, we’ve been fed a lot of messaging that seems to celebrate and encourage productivity — but can actually HARM our productivity in the long run! The ‘hustle culture’ movement may appear to be productivity-focused, but it can actually lead to the #1 productivity-killer: burnout.

Our minds and bodies need to take breaks in order to continue working at our highest and most creative levels. And when we don’t honour that need for rest, we put ourselves on a path to exhaustion and overwhelm.

Sustainable productivity-boosting techniques help you achieve more while staying healthy and balanced, conserving your energy, and working toward the right goals!

Are you ready to do more WITHOUT feeling overwhelmed? Then press play — it all starts right now.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • The productivity-saving white space that should be included in your schedule every single week
  • How to develop clear, aligned goals that will take your business where it needs to be (and a gameplan that will keep you focused on the right things)!
  • How to use the Parking Lot Method to organize your thoughts, plans, and strategies — and why it’s so effective

“We do NOT have to do it all, and it took me a really long time to realise that… there are people out there who can help you with your business, with small, recurring projects or a couple of hours a week.”

— Julie Greenham

Do you wear all of the hats in your business?

It’s common for entrepreneurs, especially during the start-up phase, to take on multiple roles in their businesses, from sales to operations to marketing to administration. An entrepreneur is often a CEO, website designer, podcast editor, copywriter, executive assistant, and graphic designer, all rolled into one!

While it may seem more cost-effective to take on all of the work yourself, it can lead to exhaustion, overwhelm… and eventual burnout.

I myself took on all of these roles in my business for six years. I felt discouraged, tired, and unmotivated, which made it challenging to do the work that I actually loved doing. Once you’ve spread yourself too thin, your business WILL suffer.

The good news? You do NOT have to do it all. And you shouldn’t!

So many of us delay hiring or outsourcing, believing that we need to make a lot more money before it makes sense to build a team.

But outsourcing recurring and administrative tasks frees you up to work in your zone of genius and do the things that create the most value for your business — which actually boosts your revenue!

If you’re ready to learn how to delegate your way to new levels of success, press play — it all starts right now.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • Why hiring a team doesn’t necessarily mean bringing people on full-time — and how just 1-2 hours a week can make a huge difference
  • Why you need to learn how to give up control and trust others to own their tasks in order to grow and scale your business
  • How finally outsourcing my recurring tasks led me to a surprising discovery!

“Has anybody ever asked you for any kind of credentials? Most often, the answer is no. So my message for you is to stop hiding: you’re enough. Go out there and create.”

— Julie Greenham

The topic of this podcast is one that tends to come up a lot in conversations with my clients, with members of the Mindful Entrepreneur Membership, and with entrepreneur friends of mine… and it’s a topic that used to come up quite often in conversation with myself, as well.

That’s right: this week’s episode is all about credibility.

Specifically, the idea that you need more credentials and certifications in order to feel worthy of serving your clients or audience.

Most often, this isn’t an idea that is brought up by the people we serve! It’s an idea that stems from inside ourselves — from the fear that we aren’t good enough or don’t have necessary expertise to help people or raise our prices if we don’t have that MBA, CPA, PCM, or any number of industry certifications.

This specific fear is something that we may unconsciously hide behind in order to avoid stepping out and showing up for our people.

I’m here to tell you that you’re ready, right now, to charge what you’re worth — even without those certifications!

What’s more important than the extra letters behind your name is your excitement, enthusiasm, experience, and desire to truly create positive, transformational impact for those you serve. Press play to learn more!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • When credentials actually matter — and when they aren’t important
  • A real-life case study of finding success without traditional credentials
  • How to draw upon your uniqueness in order to carve your own path and serve in alignment

“We forget that everything we do or decide can be changed, or the course can be corrected. We can change directions whenever we please.”

— Julie Greenham

If you’re the type of person who downloads freebies, signs up for courses and masterclasses, and subscribes to newsletters, you’ll want to listen to this episode!

This week, I’m reaching out to all of the quiet powerhouses who have no problem consuming content — but find that they may have some trouble putting their lessons into action.

Many of us buy business books or register for webinars with the very best intentions — this time, we tell ourselves, we’re really going to use our new knowledge to take our businesses to the next level by implementing new techniques or working on our mindset shifts.

But, somehow, we wind up feeling blocked when we actually try to make those changes!

As entrepreneurs, we tend to be fearful once we’ve consumed a lot of content, because we believe that we have to execute things PERFECTLY in order to succeed.

Full disclosure: I’ve been there myself, many times.

From conquering perfectionism to recognizing and honouring your past achievements, this episode will explore how to shift from intention to implementation more comfortably!

It all starts right now — just press play.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • Why you can sometimes become stuck in ‘learning mode’ — and the mindset shift that will help you overcome the fear of not being ready to move forward
  • The importance of becoming okay with the idea of “good enough” and being open to learning from imperfections
  • Why you need to look back in addition to looking ahead (and how it can help to boost your confidence)

“Some people put so much energy into content creation and relying on social media to create clients and customers. But we want to speak to them outside of all of these platforms. That’s why an email list is so great… email is not dead.”

— Julie Greenham

I want you to make at least one mistake tomorrow. Don’t worry — you’ll thank me later!

This week’s episode of The Quiet Powerhouse Podcast is the second in a two-part series tackling the 10 biggest mistakes that introverted business owners make when trying to sell or launch an offer.

As I mentioned in the last episode, “mistake” is not a bad word — we want to make as many mistakes as possible in our business, and as early as we possibly can.

Without mistakes, we don’t learn and grow. Mistakes help us gain clarity, develop stronger offers, and refine our messaging. This episode is all about the mistakes that I have made in my own business, what they taught me, and how I’ve used these insights to become a smarter and more successful business owner.

Have you ever been too afraid of rejection to follow up with prospects?

Are you curious about why your last launch didn’t hit your revenue goals?

Do you forget to ask your customers what they REALLY think about your product or service?

Press play to let MY mistakes help YOU grow your business more quickly!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

“If you have the resiliency and support and are able to figure out what is currently not working, or why you had that result that you didn’t want… there’s always a solution.”

— Julie Greenham

Do you have a favourite mistake?

This episode is the first in a two-part series tackling the 10 biggest mistakes that I see introverted entrepreneurs and business owners make when they are trying to sell or launch an offer — whether it’s a service or a product.

And I mean “mistakes” in the best possible way.

Behind every impressive and successful business owner, you will find a trail of mistakes and missteps that they have overcome and learned from over the course of building their businesses.

“I choose where I spend my money, and when I do that… I want to have the full experience. I want you to show me that, in every single part of my experience, you’re delivering on your values and your integrity and the things that you say you will do.”

— Julie Greenham

Are you worried that you’re teaching or helping others with something that you haven’t fully mastered yet?

Here’s a quick news flash: very few people will ever reach the point of truly mastering something.

And that’s okay!

You can help people at a very high level, even if you still have a lot to learn yourself. You only have to be a few steps ahead of those you are teaching in order to offer real, significant value.

Perfection is not a requirement.

It is through making mistakes that we gain a deeper understanding of the things that we’re teaching, after all. And you can offer more value to people when your knowledge has been enriched by missteps and challenges — and finding ways to work through them.

What’s more important than true mastery? Consistently working on the things we’re teaching and integrating them into the way we run our businesses.

When we operate our businesses in alignment with our values and teachings, that deepens the experience not only for our customers, but for ourselves… even when we don’t feel like top-level masters.

Where can you infuse more integrity and alignment into your business?

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • An example of a businesses operating out of alignment with their values or teachings
  • An example of a business that delivers value with integrity throughout the entire customer experience
  • The power of NOT hiding your stumbles and imperfections — and how to stop underestimating your own knowledge!

“People purchase for two things: they want more pleasure with something or they want to take pain away… and they are looking for your product or service to do just that.”

— Julie Greenham

Too often, introverted entrepreneurs (especially women) do not price their offers anywhere near what they are actually worth.

It can be even harder to charge a fair price once you’ve already built up a client base.

We worry that raising our prices might lead to our clients rejecting us and our offers. We worry that charging more may turn off potential new clients. And we worry that our services aren’t worth more than what we already earn for them.

All of these emotions and feelings around money and worth can keep us trapped in a situation where we are working twice as hard as we need to, because we are consistently undervaluing ourselves.

It doesn’t need to be that way!

The truth is that people WILL purchase your offer after you price it appropriately, just as long as you are able to convey the value through a compelling “So that you can” positioning statement and some social proof.

In this episode, I share two tips to help you raise your prices — without falling into a spiral of self doubt, uncertainty, and worry.

Yes, you ARE worth it!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • Why it’s so important to convey the true value of your offer — and where to communicate this information when raising your pricing
  • How to create a premium experience that delivers 3x the value
  • My strategy when it comes to highlighting the benefits of my own offers

Highlights:‌ ‌

“Mindset is the killer of all the dreams.”

— Julie Greenham

The #1 question that I hear from my coaching clients is: “How do you start to believe that you’re worthy of more success, more good things, more joy, more clients, more money, and more freedom?”

Often, in order to really travel the path to prosperity, you have to first undergo a significant internal shift and change some of your deep-seated beliefs about money, power, and your own capability.

Mindset is a topic that has really come into vogue lately, and for a good reason — even if ALL other pieces are in place, your mindset can still hold you back from taking risks, accepting opportunities, and embracing success.

In this episode, I share four things that you can do right now to help you shift your attitude, beliefs, and mindset… and learn how to welcome, achieve, and even expect your own success!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • How being open to new perspectives will help you take advantage of new opportunities to learn
  • The #1 red flag that I look out for when taking on new clients (and why this trait inhibits their ability to grow)
  • How to reframe the issues we face in our businesses in order to better solve them

“Intentions have a lot of power. Because once you set an intention... you automatically start to create a direction. It’s like a starting point. It’s like a map. Your actions will follow and fall in place much more easily.”

— Julie Greenham

This is the final episode of 2021 — so it’s time to talk about your New Year’s resolutions for 2022.

My advice? Don’t make any. Yes, I’m serious!

I don’t believe in setting resolutions because, for most people, they tend to take the form of radical, unrealistic goals that require a drastic change to their routine or lifestyle.

These types of resolutions can feel really good at the moment that you set them — after all, they feel like the first step to creating a magical new life where you go to the gym every day, triple your monthly revenue, or cook complicated meals from scratch every night, for example.

Of course, these goals sound wonderful. But because they are so unrealistic, setting them means setting yourself up for failure.

Since resolutions often involve all-or-nothing thinking, it’s too tempting to just give up completely when you start to fall short — when you miss the gym two days in a row because life gets in the way or when you’re too tired after a long day to make that béchamel sauce!

This year, instead of setting resolutions, I want you to set intentions.

Intentions are driven by desire, rather than obligation... and they’re far more forgiving when it comes to taking your goals one day at a time. Setting an intention creates a starting point and gently points you in the right direction, allowing aligned actions to fall in place more easily.

Rather than “I must” or “I will,” think in terms of “I would like,” and embrace small steps that add up sustainable change.

And remember — you can set intentions whenever you like. If you find that an intention you set on New Year’s Eve no longer serves you, just replace it with one that will!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • A journaling exercise to help you get in touch with what you truly want for yourself, not what you think you should want
  • How to pair intention-setting with aligned action to bring you closer to reaching your goals
  • How one single word can help you shape your experience of the year 2022

Highlights:‌ ‌

00:01 Intro

02:08 The problem with resolutions

04:03 Intentions, not resolutions

05:01 Set an intention through journaling

06:39 Intention & aligned action

“It’s never too early to learn about how to handle money in your business.”

—Melissa Houston

Dealing with finances can be one of the most nerve-wracking aspects of running a business — but it’s also one of the most important.

Unfortunately, since money management isn’t taught in schools the way it should be, many of us feel confused (or even intimidated) when it comes to understanding our numbers.

Financial strategist Melissa Houston helps business owners push through the overwhelm, get a handle on their finances, and put themselves on a path to building real wealth.

“I think that long before I became a coach as a career, that’s the role that I played all my life.”

—Michele Young

If you have trouble saying “no” in your business — or personal life — you’ll want to take some notes during this week’s episode!

Michele Young is a certified coach-practitioner who helps business owners uplevel their communication skills and learn how to build stronger business relationships.

It’s a career that fits her like a glove.

Michele has always been an emotional caretaker, offering support and advice to friends and family. Her early jobs included executive assistant and copy editor, both supportive roles.

Michele is so amazing at what she does because her work is in alignment with her zone of genius.

Michele believes that work doesn’t have to be a slog or unhappy, as long as we aren’t trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. The key is understanding your strengths and passions — even if it can be difficult to recognize them ourselves.

“We are authentic beings. We’re born authentic beings, and we only change through societal pressures or family pressures or judgment from other people,” Michele explains. “It’s enlightened upon us what our zone of genius is, and we just need to cultivate it. And people see in us a genius that we don’t see… I think if we just ‘be,’ answers come to us.”

This episode is all about recognizing your calling — and then navigating its challenges with grace and diplomacy!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • What can happen to your business when you’re unable to set boundaries as an introvert
  • Why agreements and contracts are actually the respectful way to conduct business

“Even 33 years later, I do every once in a while have to think of putting my superhero cape on and mentally making that stance when I have a difficult day ahead of me, and just empower myself.”

— Karin Welsh

Some occupations are tailor made for introverts. Others can be a little more of a challenge.

Karin Welsh is a real estate broker and a hardcore introvert — two things that form an unexpected pairing!

The real estate industry is not a place where you would expect introverts to thrive, and it’s true that many aspects of the job of real estate agent do favour extroverted people. Yet Karin has managed to become very successful... and has discovered that being an introvert has actually provided her with strengths that are ideally suited to her work.

Karin discovered a love for real estate when she was a child, observing her realtor father selling houses and her stay-at-home mother creating a cozy and inviting home. At 26, she entered the field herself.

Full disclosure: Karin actually helped me purchase (and sell) a beautiful home in Uxbridge, Ontario.

Press play to learn what Karin loves most about her work, what success means to her, and the best lesson she has learned over her 33-year real estate career.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • The introvert superpower that helps Karin excel in the real estate industry
  • The biggest challenges Karin is currently facing in today’s housing market — and why she is angry at the government
  • How Karin manages relating to clients going through (often painful) life transitions as an introvert and empath

About Karin Welsh: Karin Welsh is a real estate broker for the Remax All-Stars in Uxbridge, Ontario and co-founded Welsh & Co with her daughter, Lindsey. She has helped her clients buy and sell properties for over three decades, specializing in the York and Durham Region. She pairs a personal and professional approach with an informed perspective on the local markets.

“We tend to get triggered just by hearing things that contradict our worldview.”

—Sara Beth Wald

Many of us want to stay up to date with what’s going on in the world today, but are anxious (and maybe even fearful) about the chaotic state of the news.

Wouldn’t it be great if there were a way to stay informed without dealing with the overwhelm?

My guest, Sara Beth Wald, is a self-professed news nerd who is passionate about helping people understand and access the news of the day with less anxiety and fear, through consuming it mindfully.

As a former journalist and social worker, she’s ideally trained for this sort of work!

The truth is that many news sources are more interested in selling to us than in keeping us informed, and the information that we’re given is often calibrated to suit a specific target audience.

And it can be hard to figure out where the truth lies!

“There’s a lot of conflicting information out there. So a lot of what I do is teach people how to trust their own judgment,” Sara says. “I think a lot of times, especially as women, we have a tendency to feel like we need somebody else’s input, somebody else’s expertise. And that’s really just not the case. We are smart, we are capable, and we are certainly able to come to our own conclusions.”

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • The health impacts that the news can have on people—especially introverts and empaths
  • Why the current business model and editorial focus of the journalism industry is harmful
  • Techniques for approaching news sources critically and creating distance when necessary

About Sara Beth Wald: Sara Beth Wald helps smart, busy women consume the news with mindfulness so that they can navigate these chaotic times with boundaries, accountability, and grace.

“We are masters and captains of our own ships. And most of the time, we know exactly what to do.”

— Julie Greenham

Be prepared — I get a little bit fired up in this episode! That’s because this episode’s topic is one that pops up far too often in the lives of entrepreneurs. Yes, even in my own life.

I want to talk about the act of asking permission for things… in our own businesses.

Put up your hand if you’re guilty of this. I’m guessing that a lot of listeners have caught themselves seeking the permission or approval of other people when making decisions in their role as founder and CEO.

This type of behaviour can often be traced back to childhood, to the idea of raising our hands, waiting our turns, and relying on authority figures to guide us.

But if we need to seek approval for every step that we want to take in our businesses, that slows us down… and can even stop us from taking action!

Listen now to learn how to stop asking permission, trust your gut, and own your role as CEO!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • How childhood behaviours can follow us into adulthood and why this can be dangerous in terms of entrepreneurship
  • Why fear of accountability and responsibility leads us to ask others to co-sign on our decisions — and why you should believe in yourself instead
  • Why it’s important not to stick too closely to your plan, in case you miss out on unexpected opportunities

“Creativity is really broad, it’s not that you have to be able to paint or draw. I think everybody has creativity in them in some form. It might be in baking, it might be in gardening, it might be in sewing or knitting.”

— Lorraine Thomson

Do you consider yourself creative?

While many people may answer “no,” creativity can mean many different things! And there can be no telling where your creative journey can take you.

My guest for this episode is Lorraine Thomson, who always knew that she wanted to be an artist... even as she set it aside to pursue a career in nursing.

10 years into her career as a nurse-practitioner, the urge to create became too overwhelming. Lorraine left her job and returned to school, where she earned a degree in Fine Arts from Western University.

Lorraine now works full-time as an artist, creating and teaching others how to create through the Zentangle Method, a relaxed way of drawing using structured patterns. She also creates art through working with acrylics, collage, and sculpture.

“For me, it’s a way of helping process emotions, in some ways. Sometimes, it’s very directed at something I’ve been worrying about or something in the news,” Lorraine says. “It’s just a way of tapping into some other parts of your brain.”

Although many of us mistakenly believe that you can’t make a living as an artist, Lorraine is here to prove that following your creative passions doesn’t mean you’ll wind up “starving”!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • How getting into a flow state calms our nervous systems and triggers powerful creativity
  • The ways that art can be used to help process emotions or keep you grounded
  • How working with your non-dominant hand can help you tap into different parts of your brain or release tension

About Lorraine Thomson: Lorraine Thomson is a former nurse-practitioner turned artist, now following her passions. She became a certified Zentangle teacher and has been teaching classes in person and online since then.

“You can be just a few steps ahead, and you’re still able to help someone else.”

— Julie Greenham

How do you feel about the word “expert”? Or how about “leader”? Many of us feel ambivalence or a sense of disconnect about being referred to as an expert or a leader in our fields — no matter how long we’ve been doing our work!

For a long time, I felt very uncomfortable with the word “expert.” It’s not a label that naturally occurred to me when I thought about myself and my work, and I resisted having it applied to me. I had very definite ideas of what it meant to be an expert: I thought that you had to know everything inside and out. That you couldn’t stumble over your words or concepts while doing Lives, or even while talking to other people. That you needed to know the answer to every single question, always.

These were very unreasonable standards. And very, very few people would qualify as being an expert if they were true!

You can imagine that these standards made me even more nervous to speak in front of my audience, which held me back from opportunities that would have helped me grow my business more quickly.

Tune into this episode to learn how I grew to accept (and even embrace!) the label of expert — and the mindset shift I needed to make in order to own my CEO role.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • How shifting your understanding of the word “expert” can free you to embody it
  • Questions that you can ask yourself right now in order to change the way you see yourself as an entrepreneur
  • Why results and impact are the most important thing to keep in mind when judging your own expertise

“As an entrepreneur, the journey, the challenges, the fears — they never end.”

— Julie Greenham

What do skydiving and entrepreneurship have in common?

They can both be terrifying — but can take you to heights you would never have imagined!

While the fear that entrepreneurs experience while running our businesses may not be as extreme as the fear we would feel while jumping out of an airplane, it can still paralyze us and keep us from making the impactful moves we need to make in order to grow and scale, and can even lead to chronic stress and anxiety.

While unfortunately this fear can creep up at every stage in your entrepreneurial journey, you don’t have to let it control you and risk your momentum!

In this episode, I share 3 powerful mindfulness practices that I use when faced with fear in my own business and personal life.

You’ll learn a simple technique for grounding yourself when feeling anxious, the power of your inner stories, and what Wonder Woman can teach us about confidence.

This is a replay of an earlier episode of The Quiet Powerhouse Podcast, but its lessons and the tools that you’ll receive remain just as vital today.

And remember: even fear has a silver lining. If you don’t have any fears when it comes to running your business, then you’re not reaching high enough!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • How to redirect your attention from anxiety-provoking thoughts to the present moment, helping you to ground yourself

“I’m just learning over these last few years that ‘no’ is a complete sentence.”

— Christen N. James

Alongside management, sales, and marketing, self-advocacy is an important skill that every entrepreneur should master!

As introverted business owners, we often stumble when it comes to standing up for ourselves — whether it’s against pushy clients, unfair vendors, or collaborators who may be taking advantage. We tend to be people-pleasers who focus on the needs of everyone around us, prioritizing ourselves last.

My guest for this episode is Christen N. James, who has built a thriving career on helping entrepreneurs become more in touch with their own needs and learn how to advocate for themselves.

Christen, also known as C.J., is a mindset and transition coach who helps her clients become more self aware — and use that new awareness to shift the way that they show up in their businesses.

I couldn’t think of a better guest for this topic!

This is a replay of an early episode, but its subject matter remains timeless. Tune in to learn about C.J.’s personal journey to self-awareness and strong self-advocacy, why it’s so hard for introverts to speak up for ourselves, and how to say no without saying “no.”

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • Why self-advocacy becomes easier through practice and experience
  • How to weigh the benefits of speaking out — and know when to save your energy
  • Strategies for standing up for yourself (even when it terrifies you)!

“Being a good listener is actually a big benefit to running a meeting or a workshop.”

Can introverts lead successful, impactful online workshops? You bet they can!

“The inner critic is hard with us, so we’re going to be harsh with the inner critic.”

— Julie Greenham

The topic of this episode was actually requested by many of my listeners, and it’s one that I think will be especially helpful to the perfectionists out there: why are we so hard on ourselves... and what can we do about it?

As entrepreneurs and introverts, many of us deal with worries that we’re not good enough. We can tell ourselves things that we would never think of saying to another person!

Negative self talk is a problem that can have very real and harmful consequences, keeping us from taking advantage of exciting opportunities or taking the vital next steps in our businesses. It can also cause us to set wildly unrealistic goals… and then feel terrible when we can’t hit them.

When we believe that we’re not ‘fill-in-the-blank’ enough to succeed, these thoughts alone can hold us back from achieving our goals — even when they’re not based in any truth!

There are ways to fight back against your harsh inner critic. I want to provide you with a powerful toolbox to help you reframe your inner critic, push through the walls it builds up, and replace its poison with thoughts that bolster you instead.

With this episode, I hope that my voice in your headphones can help you combat the voice in your head that tells you that you’re falling short. Because the truth is that you’re doing just fine!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • The different forms that negative self talk (and its consequences) can take in your life
  • Where your inner critic comes from — and 3 simple tips for taming it
  • How to shift the tone and content of your self talk to something more productive and supportive

“When we suppress [feelings], they come back with a vengeance.”

— Julie Greenham

This episode is a personal one. We all go through challenging times — illnesses, job terminations, breakups, and breakdowns. These are an inevitable part of life. It’s how we navigate these challenges that determines how we end up on the other side.

Yes, this episode is all about how to deal when life kicks us around.

Big life changes can often lead to depression or anxiety, which can affect how we show up in our businesses… or keep us from showing up at all. For solopreneurs, this is especially challenging.

Big changes can also lead to big fear of change. Fear of change is borne of fear of uncertainty, which can bring up past issues or cause unwanted mindset shifts.

In this episode, I want to talk about the steps that you can take (and the space that you can create) that will help you move along the path of healing when big changes strike.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • 5 methods for dealing with the stress and grief that can come from life changes
  • How your mindset may shift in the wake of loss or change — and how you can get it back on track
  • Different treatment modalities that you can seek out to deal with emotional struggles

“It’s very hard to see past that grey cloud of judgment when we are in it.”

— Julie Greenham

This episode explores the three most common challenges that introverted entrepreneurs discuss when they first join the Mindful Entrepreneur Membership… and the magic that happens when they connect with a supportive community that understands their unique situation.

Many introverted entrepreneurs struggle with the visibility aspect of their business — showing up in front of their clients and prospects, whether through Instagram or Facebook Lives, Zoom webinars, or even just through social media. Others aren’t sure how to incorporate mindfulness into their daily lives, even though they understand the incredible benefits that come from having a regular practice.

The biggest challenge that new Mindful Entrepreneur Membership members face is cultivating resiliency and learning how to bounce back from the inevitable obstacles and disappointments that come up while we build up our businesses.

And we address each of these challenges effectively within the Mindful Entrepreneur Membership!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

✔ That you really CAN find your voice and show up authentically without overextending yourself on social media

✔ How to develop and optimize a consistent mindfulness routine that helps you stay in flow and present

✔ How we help our members cultivate a high level of resiliency so that they can grow their businesses more confidently

“Go inwards. That’s where all of our answers are.”

— Julie Greenham

In this episode, I reveal the two fastest ways to grow your business.

These two methods of growing your business may not be what you expect. I’m not going to talk about how to find investors or which tech to invest in for your sales team. I’m not going to recommend a specific style of email sequence or give you tips on how to optimize your sales page.

Growing your business effectively is not just about your next marketing funnel, or your copy, or your web design. Or course, all of those things matter and contribute to your success! But at the core, the fastest way to grow your business is by doing the inner work.

The two fastest ways to grow your business are to acquire a miracle mindset and build or join a supportive community.

A miracle mindset is a shift in your inner perception that changes both the way you feel and the way that you think. Acquiring one offers you freedom from your ego and your fears, and allows you to step into your CEO mindset — and know that you deserve to take up that leadership role!

Why is shifting your mindset so important? Because the thoughts, feelings, and beliefs that you hold influence your behaviours, actions, and impact. We can’t create meaningful and lasting change if we’re operating purely from our conscious mind. If we’re going to heal our negative patterns, we need to commit to some deeper work.

So, let’s get started.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

✔ The challenges you face when you don’t have a miracle mindset — and the benefits you enjoy when you acquire one

✔ How to declutter and reprogram your unconscious navigation system

✔ The difference between having a fixed mindset and a growth mindset (and why it matters)

“I call visualization a mental rehearsal for what we want to create in our physical world.”

— Julie Greenham

What do high-performing athletes and successful CEOs have in common? Creative visualization.

Creative visualization is a technique that helps you clarify your goals internally... and bring them into your exterior world. Did you know that the brain cannot tell the difference between something that you visualize in great detail and something that you actually experience? Talented performers and speakers use this to their advantage by visualizing themselves on stage delivering the perfect speech or monologue. Athletes visualize themselves scoring winning goals or completing challenging moves. And musicians use visualization to “practice” their music… without even touching their instrument.

Not only is visualization a useful tool for “training” your brain, but it’s also very powerful when it comes to channelling your energy and attracting your desired outcomes — you may have heard this described as “manifesting.” We are constantly visualizing without necessarily meaning to, through daydreaming. How much more powerful could our daydreams be if they were intentional?

The first step to creative visualization is being open to the belief that we can create our own desires. If you’re ready to move onto step two, it’s time to press play.

Let’s get started.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

✔ The five-step journey to effective creative visualization

✔ The importance of feeling in your visualization practice — and how it ties into attraction

✔ Why you need to let go of expectations in order to receive what you want

“Your business only grows as much as you do.”

— Julie Greenham

How can we quiet our negative inner voices?

We all deal with inner criticism — especially those of us who suffer from imposter syndrome. If we give our negative inner voice too much power, it can stop us from chasing our goals or taking the kind of risks that can have big payoffs for our businesses.

Why is it so important to counteract those pesky, negative thoughts? Because thoughts influence our feelings, our feelings shape our behaviour, and our behaviour leads to our results. Negative thinking can lead to procrastination, inability to make decisions, fear of moving forward or taking action, self sabotage, and anxiety. A strong negative thought can actually have a big impact on your life, relationship, and business!

Many people say that mantras are an effective way to redirect their inner voices. Mantras are important and they have their place, but they’re often far more effective when used alongside other mindfulness techniques.

So, how do we rid ourselves of these negative thoughts? Through deeper inner work and mental decluttering. And now is the best time to get started.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

✔ How to break the negative thought, feeling, and behaviour cycle that holds us back

✔ A journaling exercise with action steps that you can complete right now (link to doc below!)

✔ How to treat forgiveness as a gift that you give yourself — and when to use it

What do you think about when I say the word “retrograde”?

If you’re reading this between July 2021 when this episode was released and October 10th, 2021, you’re currently living in the middle of a Saturn retrograde period. That’s right, Mercury isn’t the only planet that regularly winds up in retrograde!

Now, you may be reading this thinking, “This is all a little too woo-woo for me.” But approaching planetary retrograde symbolically is actually a helpful way to integrate specific focus into your business planning... and create valuable space for strategic reflection.

For example, Mercury retrograde is categorized as a time when you should concentrate on clarity in your communications, both sending and receiving. Saturn retrograde, on the other hand, is all about feeling good. This is a time to examine and strengthen our boundaries, reconsider our commitments to ourselves, and upgrade our routines to deliver maximum joy!

In this episode, you’ll learn how the Saturn retrograde period affects you and your business — and why this time offers you a unique opportunity to redefine, reevaluate, and redesign.

“Saturn retrograde is all about aligning ourselves and our energy to feel good!”

— Julie Greenham.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

“I didn’t feel very connected, I didn’t feel that I belonged anywhere...It took me many years before I realized that it wasn’t that there wasn’t a group that I could belong to, it was that I myself didn’t feel worthy to be in a group so I would sabotage it.”

— Chris Richards

What is confidence?

And how do we acquire it?

As introverts, many of us find it especially challenging to feel confident and included. But it doesn’t have to be that way. My guest, Chris Richards, once felt excluded and unworthy — and now, he helps six- and seven-figure entrepreneurs discover and wield their own confidence in order to grow their businesses.

Chris digs deep into psychology to help his clients understand the mindset issues that are holding them back and uses powerful techniques to work through them.

“You’re actually confident in many, many areas of your life, but you’re choosing to focus on the areas where you have doubts. And then you’re taking that area and you’re expanding it to be a trait of who you are,” Chris explains. “This means that people that aren’t confident, because of usually a defense mechanism of some sort — they are choosing not to be confident.”

When we identify ourselves with doubt and fear, it’s a lot harder for us to move forward on the actions that will help us grow, whether that is in our professional lives or in our personal lives.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • The deeper psychological reasons that hold so many people back from feeling confident
  • How the way that we describe ourselves says more about who we are than we may think
  • Why trying to become someone else in social situations is exhausting you, not protecting you

“Share to your audience and your clients who you are.”

— Julie Greenham

When I say “show up being your authentic self in your business,” what does that make you think about?

Many people struggle with showing up authentically in their businesses, and many others aren’t quite sure what it means to do so. And yes — the term can be quite vague.

When you are being authentic, you are being your true self and working in integrity with who you are as a person: Do you practice what you preach? Do you sell or market in a way that is aligned with your values? Do you inject your personality into the way that you show up for your customers?

Showing up authentically has huge benefits in terms of building trust with your audience, creating more impact, and ultimately earning more revenue.

When you show your audience who you are and why you do what you do, you attract customers and clients who believe the same things as you, and this helps them to better connect with you.

In this episode, you’ll learn five different ways that you can be more authentic in your business — with some concrete examples and actionable tips!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • What authenticity means and doesn’t mean in the context of running your business
  • How to use storytelling as a tool for connection
  • Why you need to hone in on what makes you unique

“We should be in charge of how we spend our days... If we’re feeling not lit up, not excited to get out of bed in the morning, there’s things that we can do about that.”

— Lianne Kim

Is seeking joy part of your business plan? Because it should be.

Seeking the joy in running our businesses helps us to deal with the ups and downs, the stresses, and the challenges that inevitably pop up on our entrepreneurial journeys.

My guest for this episode, Lianne Kim, is the author of Building a Joyful Business, which teaches how to create an inspiring vision for your business and build a living based on your passions and strengths, along with practical advice for introducing ease into the less joyful parts of your business.

“As entrepreneurs, I think we can find our business is running away with itself, and we forget that we are in charge of everything we do in our business, from how we work to who we work with, to when we do that work, they energy that we bring — that all comes from the inside out,” Lianne explains. “I hear women say things like ‘I have to do it this way’ or ‘isn’t this the right way?’ and it’s funny that we assert ourselves and we make the leap to start a business, but very quickly we start to do what we think is expected of us, as opposed to what we want to be doing.”

So, what do YOU want to be doing?

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • The first steps you can take to seek joy in your own business
  • How Lianne lost her mojo in her business — and what she did to get it back
  • The common barriers to moving a business that you love — and how to overcome them

About Lianne Kim

Lianne Kim is a business coach and the founder of Mamas & Co., a community that supports mamapreneurs. She hosts the wildly popular podcast, The Business of Thinking Big. She has recently released her first book, Building a Joyful Business. Lianne is on a mission to help women make a great living on their own terms doing what they love.

“You are not inadequate. You are not incompetent. And you are definitely not stuck!”

— Julie Greenham

Are you feeling stuck in your business? Is there something inside you that’s holding you back… and you can’t quite seem to shake it?

The feeling may come up when you’re trying to implement something new, or it could come up while you’re working toward a big goal. Generally, this feeling comes up during the process of breaking our larger actions down into smaller tasks.

This feeling of being stuck? It can derail us, make us lose our momentum, and even affect our motivation — no matter how important or exciting our goals are!

While all entrepreneurs can experience this at some point or another on their journey, creatives and perfectionists are especially vulnerable.

Through my coaching business, I’ve helped many of my clients work through this hurdle, and have come up with a three-pronged strategy to help them overcome it.

Hit play on this episode to learn how to combat procrastination, overwhelm, fear of incompetence, and task fatigue.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • The #1 pre-task ritual that helps me move through my most dreaded tasks
  • Why the done-in-a-day approach may be hindering your productivity rather than helping it
  • Three specific areas of focus I use with my clients to help them push through their feelings of being stuck

Poor sleep affects our energy, productivity, emotions, motivation, how we learn, and the way we show up in our businesses and with the people that we care about.

But did you know you can take steps during the day to help you make the most of the energy you have — and actually rest better at night?

By learning how to optimize your energy levels and get better sleep, you increase your ability to concentrate, better regulate your emotions, and reduce your chances of burnout!

My guest for this episode is Paige Purvis, an integrative nutrition health coach and founder of Radiant Self. Paige helps her clients improve their sleep quality, achieve hormonal balance, and increase their energy. “I believe sleep is your superpower,” Paige says. “It’s so impactful to all areas of your life and also most of what you’re doing in the day is impactful to your sleep.”

While sleeping for just six hours is often seen as something entrepreneurs should be proud of, getting a full night’s sleep isn’t lazy — it helps you perform at your best and give your business the concentration and productivity it deserves.

How much more effective would you be if you were well-rested and ready to take on any challenge? Listen to this episode and find out!

“The way that I learn the most is by taking action.”

— Julie Greenham

This is the second part of a series where I talk about the missteps or wrong turns that I took when building my first business — and how the lessons I learned from them helped me grow and scale my current business more quickly.

If you haven’t yet listened to episode #50, I recommend that you check it out!

There isn’t a single entrepreneur out there who has built their business perfectly from the ground up. No matter your industry or the size of your business, you will make decisions that will slow your growth, set you back, or cost you money.

And that is completely okay.

For one thing, these mistakes do not define us or our businesses.

For another thing, they’re actually valuable opportunities for us to learn.

As I said in episode #50, the only real failure is giving up on your business because of a mistake.

In this episode, I’m going to talk about 10 missteps I took while running my first business, including waiting too long to ask for help, not taking advantage of timesaving tech, and using business education as a way to procrastinate.

I share my own missteps in these episodes because I want you to be able to learn from my mistakes, as I have. I’m actually grateful for them, because my current business wouldn’t be half as successful without these valuable lessons!

Ready to hear everything I did wrong — and how it all wound up just right? Then press play.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • 10 major lessons that I learned through running my first business
  • The time, effort, and attention you will save when you set up your systems, policies, and processes early on
  • Why doing too many courses and programs can actually harm your business

“Anyone who identifies as a woman has this sacred space that is filled with the shakti power. What I do is to really help women learn how to access that and how to trust it so that they can use it as a guiding force.”

— Carla Wainwright

My guest for this episode, Carla Wainwright, is a sexual empowerment coach and creatrix who helps women reconnect with the feminine energy, or shakti.

We’re not taught as girls and women to connect with our feminine energy of creation. As women living in a masculinized society, we are encouraged to conform to systems and ways of being that align with masculine energies and viewpoints.

Many of us do that very well, but as Carla says, “We really miss that element of connecting with our inner feminine wisdom and from the wisdom of the body. When we’re able to connect with that part of ourselves, it really allows our creativity to flow so much more freely… the generation of ideas becomes so much more vibrant.”

Instead of relying only on your mind, you can learn how to listen to and interpret the information constantly offered to you by your body.

By tapping into the wellspring of power within ourselves, we’re able to work in alignment and run our businesses in ways that bring us more ease and pleasure!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • How shakti, or the divine feminine, can help entrepreneurs work with greater alignment and ease
  • Common barriers to tapping into your feminine energy — and the first step to reconnect
  • How feminine energy, power, and wisdom is repressed in our day-to-day lives — and how to break free

About Carla Wainwright

Carla runs a yoga studio in B.C. and heads a global movement called Embracing Shakti. She is a sexual empowerment coach, creatrix, and healer. For more than 25 years, Carla has been in service to women on the path of embodiment.

“One focus and one thing at a time will get you much, much further.”

— Julie Greenham

Where have you taken a wrong turn in your entrepreneurial journey?

We’ve all taken a wrong turn (or half a dozen of them). These don’t have to be catastrophic wrong turns. Many of these are just minor detours or a shortcut that didn’t quite work out the way we thought it would.

As we work on building our businesses, we are always discovering new things that we would have done very differently if we could go back and live it all over again!

At the time of these wrong turns, we often view them as failures.

I don’t want to minimize or dismiss that feeling, because we often do feel quite bad about these wrong turns at the time.

But rather than failures, they’re actually very useful opportunities to learn and grow.

The only real failure is giving up on your business because of a mistake.

I’ve definitely learned from the choices I made in my first business, from focusing on the wrong aspects of my business early on to paying too little attention to my numbers to asking others for feedback on my pricing.

By applying those lessons in my current business, I’ve been able to grow and scale more quickly.

I’m happy to share these lessons in the hope that they’ll help my listeners build prosperous businesses that are aligned with their values!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • The 10 biggest missteps I made in my last business and the lessons I learned
  • How to work smarter, not harder, by identifying your periods of highest productivity
  • Why core values aren’t just for big corporations — and why they’re actually essential for small businesses

Highlights:‌ ‌

  • 01:36 Introduction
  • 02:18 Rethinking ‘failure’
  • 03:22 Pretty Woman
  • 04:21 Focusing on the wrong things
  • 06:55 Money mindset & feminine energy

“I always knew from the time I was little, honestly, that there was something in me that I was meant to bring into the world, and I followed that.”

— Cailen Ascher

What would your life look like if you had the power to choose your ideal schedule?

Cailen Ascher is a personal growth and business coach with a unique selling point. She’s managed to build a wildly successful business… with a 3-day work week.

Cailen set the goal of a 3-day work week in order to spend more time with her family and had no clue if her idea would actually work — but she knew she wanted to try. She started getting her first high-ticket clients in 2015, and was earning six figures a year by the next year.

Along the way, Cailen learned how to prioritize important activities, batch tasks, create intentional time boundaries, and identify areas where she could outsource.

“It’s just been this really cool journey of really embracing the idea that you can create the schedule that feels good, work on the hours that feel right and appropriate for you… and still create success that you desire,” she explains. “You don’t have to subscribe to someone else’s version of what it takes to be successful.”

So, how can you create a schedule that perfectly balances your business ambitions and personal needs?

When designing your ideal schedule, it’s important to know your goals. Cailen advises the members of her program to get really clear on their priorities, first and foremost.

Let’s get started!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • The priorities and goals you need to have in place before you can start growing your ideal business
  • The time inventory method Cailen used to determine her own ideal schedule (and discover her bad time management habits)
  • The #1 mindset block that Cailen sees in her clients — and how to release it

About Cailen Ascher

Cailen Ascher is a personal growth and business coach with a three-day workweek. She is a mom of two, a wife, and the creator of the Success Made Simple Accelerator. She helps women entrepreneurs make simple mindset shifts and take the aligned actions necessary to create more freedom and fulfillment in their lives and businesses.

“I did not like saying no at first. I did not know how to say it. I would make up excuses, I would sometimes even lie… because I was a people-pleaser. And I didn’t want to hurt other people’s feelings.”

— Julie Greenham

Do you have trouble saying no to certain people or certain requests?

Do you find yourself agreeing to tasks that you find frustrating, unpleasant, or take up too much of your time while providing no value to your own life or business?

For introverts, it can often be difficult to assert boundaries in the moment. Many of us are also people-pleasers, which makes it twice as challenging.

Many of us feel that we have to lie or make up excuses… but learning that “no” is a complete sentence can be game-changing.

Especially when you’re a business owner.

When you are stuck in a pattern of saying yes to everything, you are giving away your time. There are only 24 hours in a day, and you need to guard those hours and use them on the things that will help you grow your own business and build value and joy in your own life.

The first step? Defining and identifying the money-generating activities, hobbies, courses, and collaborations that will help you on the path toward your own personal and professional goals.

Remember: whenever you say yes to something, you say no to something else.

Saying no is definitely a skill that you need to build and practice. I promise you, once you put the work in, it WILL get easier and you will feel less guilty about it!

In this episode of The Quiet Powerhouse, I share my best tips for getting comfortable with setting boundaries (and provide some mantras to help you build up your voice)!

Let’s get started!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • The 3 questions you should ask yourself before saying ‘yes’ to a new task, opportunity, or collaboration
  • Why you should drastically cut down on your use of the word ‘maybe’ — and what to say instead
  • Key phrases that you can use to gently but firmly set boundaries or say ‘no’ (or even ‘not now’)

Highlights:‌ ‌

  • 01:09 Listener shout-out
  • 02:37 Hard to say no
  • 04:11 Saying no in business
  • 05:04 Defining priorities & case study
  • 07:39 Money-generating activities

“At the end of the day, our brain can either work for us or against us — it’s up to us to program that.”

— Michelle Risi

Michelle Risi doesn’t have the aggressive approach of most real estate agents. She avoided selling because she didn’t feel it was a good fit for her introversion.

Yet she was named one of the Top 50 women in Canadian real estate by Real Estate Professionals magazine.

Michelle found her niche developing education and training in the industry.

Her Aligned Method is based on neuroscience research and self-discovery throughout her professional journey, which took her from feeling like she didn’t fit the industry and being afraid to explore the client-facing roles to managing her own brokerage.

“That’s where the Aligned Method really came from,” she explains. “It’s basically the process for clearing everything that’s standing in your way — which is usually the mindset blocks — and really just being able to move forward to where you want to go, as opposed to operating out of fear.”

After she started seeing incredible results, she realized that there was something there — and she needed to share it.

“The brain’s job is not to achieve success. That’s not what its purpose is. Its purpose is to keep us safe,” Michelle explains. “Anything that feels new, threatening, uncomfortable is going to set off the alarm bells… that’s when we start engaging in things like procrastination or perfectionism or comparing ourselves to other people, because that slows us down.”

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • The five steps of Michelle’s Aligned Method
  • How the Aligned Method will help you with energy management and identifying your strengths
  • How to recognize where you are stuck — and how you’re stopping yourself

About Michelle Risi

Michelle was named one of the Top 50 women in Canadian real estate by Real Estate Professionals magazine, began her career over 20 years ago, and has served in multiple roles to help grow one of Canada’s largest real estate franchises. She is the broker/owner of Royal LePage Connect Realty and on the Forbes Real Estate Council. She is a speaker, podcaster, and CEO of the Aligned Agent Academy.

“Mindfulness is a state. It’s an active process that we intentionally place ourselves in so that we can be conscious and aware of all that we do.”

— Julie Greenham

Mindfulness can do more than just help you relax, cultivate calm, or feel more centered.

It can also be used to completely transform your business as an introverted entrepreneur!

Mindfulness is learning how to slow down our thoughts, reconnect with our inner selves, and be fully present in the moment — rather than just working on autopilot.

Mindfulness is so much more than just meditation, although meditation is a beautiful mindfulness practice in its own right. There are many small, quiet practices that you can implement throughout your day to infuse it with intention and mindfulness.

What are the benefits of adopting regular mindfulness practices?

When we’re practicing mindfulness, we lower the volume on a lot of our negative emotions, such as anger, judgment, envy, and toxic pride.

Instead, we develop the ability to approach situations with more patience, emotional generosity, and kindness.

Mindfulness and becoming better able to exist in the moment provides a big boost to our decision-making skills, because it cuts down on our worry and anxiety about the future.

This makes us better able to deal with all kinds of external situations that can affect our businesses — and make the kind of calm, clear-headed choices that keep us on track for success and growth!

Ready to start enjoying the benefits of a more mindful lifestyle? Let’s get started!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • The particular useful magic that mindfulness offers to entrepreneurs
  • How to go beyond meditation to cultivate a holistic mindfulness practice that you can carry with you throughout your day
  • How mindfulness can help you clear away the cobwebs of negativity and see what is really there

  • 03:14 Mindfulness beyond meditation
  • 05:55 What magic does mindfulness offer
  • 06:53 Perception case study
  • 08:07 Dealing with our external situations

“For me, with leadership, one of the big things is accountability… not just being someone that’s directing people, but being accountable.”

— Terrance Lee

Terrance Lee, AKA The Introvert Leader, had always avoided taking on leadership roles — until he had to learn the skills by necessity.

Terrance’s shift to leadership happened after college, while he was being mentored on the F16 program at Lockheed Martin.

When he had been there for just a few months, his mentor put in his two-week notice. Terrance was told that he was going to fill his mentor’s shoes at a big presentation — and speak to a group of experienced engineers and pilots.

Terrance nailed it.... and it gave him a giant confidence boost.

Since then, Terrance has taken on many leadership and management roles as an introvert, with incredible results.

Terrance believes that there are 3 key traits that make a good leader.

You must have the ability to own up to your missteps and model that type of behaviour for your team. “There are times where, as a leader, you make a mistake. You may not always get it right,” Terrance says. Being accountable to your team builds trust and raises morale.

Terrance’s Instagram is full of amazing advice for rising to your leadership potential, and he’s not shy about sharing his best tips on this episode!

Let’s get started!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • 3 key leadership traits that introverted leaders should cultivate

About Terrance Lee

Terrance Lee is a functional engineering manager and project lead. He avoided leadership roles until he started his engineering career, when he had to learn leadership skills by necessity. He wants to empower introverts to tap into their own inner leadership potential.

“When we’re talking about developing a blue-chip mindset for our business, we’re talking about prioritizing those tasks and activities that are money-generating.”

— Julie Greenham

As introverted entrepreneurs, we often deal with unique obstacles.

In this episode, I share five skills that can help introverted entrepreneurs grow their businesses and achieve their highest potential.

While we have an abundance of soft skills such as high emotional intelligence, incredible active listening skills, a capacity for self-reflection, and the ability to be highly self-motivated, we do face some common challenges.

Five specific challenges in particular have come up in many of my conversations with both my clients and members of the Mindful Entrepreneur Membership.

One example? Prioritizing.

Let me tell you: there’s a major difference between being busy and being productive.

Often, we fill our days with tasks that don’t contribute to our bottom line.

Learning how to prioritize in a way that best benefits your business is key.

Say yes to working on your new products or building up your sales page. Say no to spending your entire day replying to emails that don’t generate money for you!

Say yes to recharge time, me time, and self-care time as a way to replenish your energy for your business. Say no to spending your energy on things that don’t nourish your soul or your business, like providing free consulting to acquaintances.

Want to learn how to overcome the rest of the common challenges introverted entrepreneurs face? Let’s get started!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • How to develop a blue-chip mindset — and how it will help you better prioritize your tasks
  • The #1 thing that you need to invest in in order to take your business to the next level
  • How mindfulness can help you change your mindset — and gain a greater sense of security and calm

Highlights:‌ ‌

  • 02:21 Optimizing your prioritizing
  • 04:41 Why is a blue-chip mindset important?
  • 05:17 Effective communication
  • 07:15 Relationship selling
  • 09:28 What’s the best thing you can invest in?
  • 11:00 Cultivate courage
  • 13:10 Recap

“The way that I would move about my day was more about listening and trusting, and then recognizing that life became more rewarding when I did that.”

— Nadine Moffatt

What are the benefits of living at a slower pace and working in flow?

Working in flow gives you a deeper sense of satisfaction and can boost your productivity — rather than just ticking off the tasks, you’re working in alignment with your purpose.

On the other hand, working outside of flow saps your energy, and can leave you feeling rundown, stressed out... or even sick.

My guest, Nadine Moffatt, is an intuitive energy healer who helps high-functioning women who are anxious and sleep-deprived restore their connection to themselves, their energy, and inner peace.

She believes that working in flow is an especially useful practice for introverted entrepreneurs!

Connecting with our inner guiding voice and honouring it helps us work through lengthy To Do lists naturally, and guides us through the processes and decisions that help us grow our businesses.

As you learn to become quiet and connected, you’ll be better able to listen to your inner guiding voice — and trust your intuition.

“Have your structure, but then trust that you will move through that structure in a way that it’s meant to flow or roll out,” Nadine advises. “You can’t have flow without being connected.”

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • The four states of consciousness and how they relate to living in flow
  • Why your morning ritual should involve intention-setting
  • How to free yourself from a victimhood mentality — and a book recommendation to help you achieve this

About Nadine Moffatt

Nadine Moffatt is an intuitive energy healer, coach, and yoga teacher. She is a mother to teenage twins. Nadine works with high-functioning women who are anxious and sleep-deprived, helping them restore their connection to themselves, their energy, and inner peace.

When you think of the acting world, you don't necessarily think that an introvert would blend naturally in that environment.

But that’s not necessarily true. It’s indeed possible and comes with certain challenges —as my guest Courtney Ferguson explains in this episode.

Courtney’s childhood dream was to act. She performed in church and high school plays, studied drama at a prestigious university, and got acting gigs immediately upon graduation. But after landing some leading roles, the curtain fell on her promising career.

What happened? Courtney was living her aspiration yet was drained and distracted. She didn’t understand why and she exited stage left.

This is where the plot thickens. With time away from the stage, Courtney finally gets some answers. How does it play out? Grab a front row seat … you’re about to find out.

BIO

Courtney is an actress based out of Atlanta and New York City. She is also a graduate of Howard University with a BFA in Acting.

As an introvert in an extroverted business, it has been a struggle for her to navigate the ins and outs of the industry. Additionally, she has dealt with shyness, anxiety and stage fright!

Discovering and embracing her introversion unlocked the key she needed to truly go after her dreams and overcome the barriers that were holding her back.

She created the instagram account @introvert_actress to share her journey

“We’re actually taught to disconnect from our intuition. We’re taught to not trust it and not listen to it. So reconnecting to it is a process — it doesn’t happen overnight.”

— Vicky Cook

Vicky Cook has never seen herself as a traditional business coach.

In fact, she doesn’t focus on strategy, sales, or content.

Instead, Vicky helps her clients reconnect with their intuition.

“Mindset and intuition and energy, those are the areas that really fire me up and I think those are the areas that are undervalued when we talk about starting a business and running a business,” Vicky explains.

As new entrepreneurs, we tend to focus on things like learning how to create content or how to build a sales funnel. But Vicky believes that there is deep work we can do within ourselves that will ease our journey into entrepreneurship — and make everything else easier!

“Intuition can be a little bit of a loaded word sometimes. I think it can come with stories, people may see it as a little bit woo-woo,” Vicky explains. “Just that term ‘intuition’ might prevent some people from seeing that they have one… and they might miss the opportunity to use that.”

Vicky likens intuition to an inner guidance system, like a personal GPS. When we use GoogleMaps or GPS, we trust that it will get us to where we need to go, even when it needs to recalibrate due to traffic or wrong turns.

We just need to learn to trust our inner guidance system the same way!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • 3 solid first steps you can take to reconnect to your own inner guidance system
  • How your intuition can help you run your business in an aligned way — and the 3-item checklist that will keep you on track
  • What happens when you ignore your intuition — and how it can wind up costing you money

About Vicky Cook

Vicky Cook is a Certified Professional Coach and hardcore, proud introvert! She is the founder of Intuitive Intropreneur and helps intropreneurs learn to trust their instincts, follow their intuition, and thrive by using their innate introverted gifts to shine.

“When you lead with kindness, people feel that energy.” — Amy Keon

“You don’t have to be the loudest person to inspire others to be kind,” says Amy Keon, pediatric registered nurse, empath, and my special guest for this episode. Her Facebook community, Share Kindness Loudly, is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating everyday acts of kindness by everyday people.

Amy believes that you don’t need to change yourself or take on extroverted traits in order to inspire people — you can do it in your own quiet, authentic, introverted way!

Leading with kindness uplifts and fuels those around us. As Amy explains, to lead with kindness is to spread joy, share awareness, learn from each other, not be judgmental, and be generous with our time. Workplaces are transformed when led by leaders who model generosity and empathy. By leading with kindness, we build morale and loyalty in our teams, inspire them to work at their best, and create a culture of empathy.

But when leading with kindness, it’s also important to extend that kindness to yourself. Self care is not selfish at all — you can’t take care of others properly unless you take care of yourself! By protecting your energy and space, and taking the time to replenish yourself, you’ll be able to maximize your positive impact without wearing yourself down!

Want to learn more of Amy’s amazing tips for spreading kindness? Let’s get started!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • Easy and impactful steps you can take right now to start leading with kindness
  • How leading with kindness can transform workplace culture and boost the motivation of your team
  • Steps that you can take to safeguard your own energy and boundaries while uplifting others

Can you show up as an introvert — and still get the recognition you need?

My guest Keni Dominguez has always been interested in inclusivity, justice, and equity in the workplace, but her approach is a bit unique: she emphasizes the importance of being inclusive of all cognitive types, as 40% of most workplaces are made up of introverts!

As an introvert herself, Keni is interested in helping other introverts develop the skills that they need to thrive in a world of extroverts.

Many introverts have thrived during the pandemic, with its focus on remote working and asynchronous communication. Many of us have also developed better work boundaries during this time.

Having strong and intentional boundaries is a skill that will serve you well both during the pandemic and once we’ve returned to regular life.

In order to create effective boundaries that work best for you, Keni recommends that you think about where and how you spend the most time, what your energy levels tend to be throughout the day, and what you value most.

Cultivating your personal power as an introvert is also hugely important.

“I believe it’s a starting point to greatness,” Keni says. “When I’m talking about personal power, I’m thinking about it from the perspective of what it means to be empowered in your life, to really just be the leader in your life.”

Extroverts take up a huge amount of oxygen in the room, and we need to be able to authentically speak up and assert ourselves as introverts — we don’t have to show up as extroverts to get what we need!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • Why cultivating personal power as an entrepreneur is so vitally important — and how to demonstrate power as an introvert
  • The top 3 things you must consider when setting your boundaries
  • How a simple auto-reply can train your clients to respect and honour your needs

About Keni Dominguez

Keni Dominguez is a career mindset coach. She works with introverts who identify as black women or women of color, and helps them find clarity and confidence in the workplace. Keni also helps organizations build more inclusive and equitable cultures.

“When people feel like you get them, that’s honestly the golden nugget to rapport, to relationship, to building that trust.”

— Jennifer Maxwell

Can a personality quiz make you a better salesperson?

The DISC behavioral model divides personality traits into four quadrants: dominance, influence, steadiness, and compliance.

Knowing your score can help you become a better salesperson!

My guest Jennifer Maxwell is a certified DISC trainer and speaker. When she started on her entrepreneurial journey, she had no formal sales training and couldn’t figure out why she had so much trouble closing. Her closing rate soared to an astonishing 90% once she applied DISC research to her sales technique!

Now, she offers courses in applying these same knowledge to her clients’ business and helping them build better rapport with their prospects.

“There are things that kind of go along with those personality traits,” Jennifer explains. “So when you can understand that, you can appeal to those natural occurring motivations and the things that matter to them the most.”

D and I personality types are more outgoing, introverts tend to fall into the more reserved S and C types, and each type has their own challenges when it comes to setting and communicating the value of their offerings.

Not only can you learn how to sell more effectively based on your type, you can also learn how to modify your technique to resonate with types of the opposite temperament.

Jennifer is sharing her best tips and tactics in this episode. If selling is part of your business, you’ll want to dive right in. Let’s get started!

As an introvert, why should you invest in professional photography for your business?

Brand photography helps you differentiate yourself in the marketplace, showcase your unique vibe and essence, and tell your story — without having to say a word!

If you don’t like to speak a lot, you can communicate a lot of things through eye-catching, informative, and attractive visuals, particularly when they’re paired with clean, brand-aligned copy.

That makes it a great tool for introverts!

My guest for this episode is Nathalie Amlani, brand photographer and owner of Pictonat Branding Creative.

Brand photographers take pictures that help to market or sell a product or service, and Nathalie has the unique talent of being able to capture the essence of who people are — and her images can make a big impact for their business!

Images can tell an emotional story — you can convey calm, joy, excitement, and more with a photograph, so it’s a great way to have your audience get a taste of what it is like to work with you and deepen your connection.

“When you present yourself in a professional way with images that really articulate who you are, then it’s just consistent with the experience that they’ll receive when they work with you.” Nathalie explains. “That leads to more word-of-mouth referrals.”

A picture really IS worth a thousand words!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode of the Quiet Powerhouse podcast,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • The multiple ways that brand photography can help you grow your business and create deeper connections with your audience
  • Why it’s important to personally appear in at least a few of the photos on your website
  • The many ways that you can repurpose your photos for new opportunities and additional promotion

“If you’re top of mind and constantly showing who you are, how it is to work with you, and what you can do for them, then when they actually need it, they’re like — oh, I remember that business or person or product!”

— Nathalie Amlani

“You don’t have to be a marketing expert. You don’t have to be a financier. You don’t have to be a speaker or a coach. Everybody has a place on LinkedIn.”

— Laura Connor

This episode’s guest, Laura Connor, is a LinkedIn marketing strategist and owner of Connor Speaks, offering LinkedIn coaching, training, and marketing consulting services.

And she believes that LinkedIn is an amazing platform for introverts!

LinkedIn is about so much more now than just posting or looking for a job — it’s a place to connect with ideal clients and build your network locally, nationally, or internationally.

While other platforms are riddled with toxicity and negativity, people on LinkedIn show up in ways that are authentic, supportive, and encouraging.

You can use LinkedIn to advance your career, build networks, gain exposure, build engagement, generate leads, and establish thought leadership.

The trick? Show up and engage.

By sharing valuable insights, you’ll attract like-minded people and gain followers. Most people on LinkedIn just scroll through their newsfeed without contributing any content. Since such a small percentage of people post content on LinkedIn compared to Facebook or Twitter, your posts will have a better chance of gaining visibility and engagement.

The more you post, the more you become a real person to your followers.

In addition to posting relevant, interesting content, Laura advises savvy introverts to engage with other people’s posts as a way to strengthen connections and remain at the top of your prospects’ minds. Hit the ‘like’ button, drop an emoji, leave a comment, and/or share.

Eventually, when they have a problem that your offer can help them solve, they’ll remember and likely reach out to you! The sales process will be more organic and you’ll have already laid the groundwork of trust.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode of the Quiet Powerhouse podcast,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • The 4 things that you need to include in your LinkedIn profile in order to make an amazing impression
  • A 3-step process that will lead to you building up your own targeted network of valuable connections
  • Examples of innovative and attention-grabbing ways to build incredible engagement and earn followers

About Laura Connor

Laura Connor is a LinkedIn marketing strategist and owner of Connor Speaks, offering LinkedIn coaching, training, and marketing consulting services. She helps business owners, entrepreneurs, and service professionals execute engaging, client-focused marketing plans.

How do you feel hearing the word ‘money’? Does it make you feel uncomfortable? Uneasy? Maybe excited?

More than almost anything else connected to entrepreneurship, money can bring up a lot of emotions. If you want to be financially successful, you need to heal your relationship to money.

My guest Megan O’Neill is a business mindset strategist who works primarily with female entrepreneurs, helping them identify and remedy limiting beliefs and blocks that hold them back.

Much of Megan’s work deals with beliefs absorbed in childhood. These legacy beliefs form the foundation of mindset and can have huge effects on how we feel about relationships, work — and money.

Many of us grew up seeing a lot of cultural imagery that showed women not having a lot of power when it comes to money. And in many of our families, men tended to make many of the bigger decisions when it came to family finances.

Remember, it wasn’t too long ago that women weren’t allowed to hold mortgages or have their own credit cards without a man co-signing.

This type of messaging taught us that women didn’t deserve money and couldn’t be trusted with it.

In order to feel confident about your relationship to money, you need to change those limiting legacy beliefs!

These beliefs can lead you to discount your offers unnecessarily, avoid negotiating, and resist promoting yourself.

“We still have a lot of work to do around our money mindset, and to feel confident and comfortable,” Megan explains. “We need to go to the next level of money.”

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode of the Quiet Powerhouse podcast,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • How early childhood beliefs shape your current relationship to money — and how to heal that relationship
  • The reasons why women in particular feel so pressured to discount their services (even before they get a ‘no’!)
  • How to reframe and rephrase in order to shift the way you (and your kids!) feel about money

About Megan O’Neil

Megan O’Neil is a business mindset strategist based in Ottawa, Ontario. She works primarily with entrepreneurs using Core Belief Engineering. She is the host of the Belief Alchemy podcast.

Highlights:‌ ‌

  • 02:03 Introducing Megan O’Neill

“I think we can all agree that we’ve never looked so forward, as much as we do right now, for a fresh start, a new beginning, and new year.”

— Julie Greenham

So long, 2020.

As we say goodbye to the turmoil of the past year, you may be tempted to set some New Year’s resolutions. I’m here to tell you not to.

There is a better way.

Setting resolutions, for most people, takes the form of radical goals and unrealistic expectations.

“I’ll go fully vegetarian.”

“I’ll go to the gym five times per week.”

“I’ll go to bed at 9:30 every single night.”

When making these resolutions, I feel good at the moment of setting them — but almost immediately lose interest, because my brain knows that I can’t get them done. The change required is too drastic and sudden, the goals too ambitious (or practically unachievable).

And these resolutions often involve all-or-nothing thinking, making it so much easier to give up when you can’t hit the too-high standard you’ve set.

Instead of setting resolutions, I want you to set intentions.

Rather than “I will,” think in terms of “I would like.”

Intentions are driven by desire, rather than obligation, and create less pressure.

Intentions create directions and starting points, allowing aligned actions to fall in place more easily. As Jennifer Williams said, “Intention is more than wishful thinking; it’s wishful direction.”

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode of the Quiet Powerhouse podcast,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • A journaling exercise to help you get in touch with what you truly want for yourself, not what you think you should want
  • How to pair intention-setting with aligned action to bring you closer to reaching your goals
  • How one single word can help you shape your experience of the year 2021

“Intentions have a lot of power. Because once you set an intention... you automatically start to create a direction. It’s like a starting point. It’s like a map. Your actions will follow and fall in place much more easily.”

— Julie Greenham

Highlights:‌ ‌

  • 01:23 Don’t set a resolution this year
  • 03:11 Intention-setting
  • 05:27 Intentions v. goals

“People don’t like pushy salespeople… so being an introvert, I think, has actually worked to my advantage.”

— Barry Karch

Real estate doesn’t feel like a space where introverts would thrive.

Barry Karch, however, has been a successful realtor for 35 years — despite having always been quiet and introverted.

In fact, he consistently outsells his more outgoing colleagues!

“Being an introvert, I think, has actually worked to my advantage, because I’m not going to be loud and obnoxious and try to talk people into something,” Barry explains. No one wants pushy, high-pressure tactics for a high-ticket item.

People feel more comfortable around Barry because he doesn’t do the non-stop chatter and high-pressure sales strategies. Instead, he allows them space to truly consider their potential new home.

Barry’s low-pressure approach helps clients trust him and feel much better about buying.

One of the hardest parts of his job remains reaching out to build and nurture his client base. As Barry says, “You have to reach out to people to be successful. You can’t sit back and wait for people to contact you, or you’re not going to do as well as you would like. You have to overcome the fear or the anxiety of making the calls.”

As an introvert, Barry does deal with negative thoughts and anxieties that pop up when he needs to make sales calls or interact with potential new clients — but he’s come up with savvy strategies to push through anxieties and generate strong motivation to do what he needs to do.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode of the Quiet Powerhouse podcast,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • Key strategies for overcoming negative thoughts
  • How to pinpoint your ‘Big Why’ and use it to build motivation
  • How to feel comfortable with marketing yourself through video — and the #1 fact you need to keep in mind

About Barry Karch

Barry Karch is the broker/owner of The Real Estate Power Houses in El Paso, TX. Despite being a quieter person, he has consistently outsold his more outgoing colleagues. Barry created The Real Estate UnSalesperson podcast to get the word out that you can be successful in selling real estate simply by being yourself. People in other sales professions will also enjoy this podcast because much of it has to do with mindset.

Highlights:‌

  • 01:46 Introducing Barry Karch
  • 03:05 How introversion can help in sales
  • 04:29 Strategies for overcoming negative talk

‌“Don’t be afraid to be the quiet one, because we’re the ones that are the most dangerous.”

— Trina Turl

Can introversion be a service provider’s secret weapon?

Trina Turl is a commercial photographer with a wealth of talent and an introvert’s distaste for small talk and big crowds. A former wedding photographer, she found it challenging to shoot large events and has since transitioned to specializing in photography for small business, shooting interiors, products, and small groups.

Trina loves working closely with smaller businesses and designers, because it allows her to build stronger connections and be more collaborative.

As a shy introvert, Trina tends to be very quiet around new people and needs some time to get out of her shell, which can make it more challenging for her to get new clients. “It’s really hard to get clients when you’re super quiet, especially when you’re networking,” she explains. “Putting myself out there and making noise just feels very uncomfortable.”

But when she is talking about creative projects, Trina comes alive — and this is where she can create incredible connections with her clients!

“Once I get on a call with them, or we’re in-person, and we start talking about ideas and creativity and their project, I get really animated and very excited, because that’s really what lights me up,” Trina says. As an introvert she also has a very special gift — that of being able to listen closely and gather key information from her clients, so that she can help them achieve their vision and find the most success. By truly hearing their needs, Trina is able to anticipate the possibilities of what her photography can do for their business — it’s a true introvert superpower!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode of the Quiet Powerhouse podcast,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • Why introversion can actually be a service-based entrepreneur’s superpower
  • How to calm your nerves before meeting with clients on-site
  • Simple ways to fuel creativity using the world around you

“Sometimes, the NOs are not really NOs. Sometimes, the NOs are just ‘No, not right now.’”

— Aviva Allen

How do you turn a simple Facebook group into a paid membership with tens of thousands of members?

Aviva Allen was a kids’ nutritionist specializing in helping parents address feeding challenges around the time that she discovered mom Facebook groups. Disappointed by the lack of health- and eco-consciousness she found in the groups she joined, she decided to start her own, inviting 30 of her friends to join.

That group was Healthy Moms, which has since become a full community with 20,000 members that offers parents advice, shopping discounts, and a curated selection of natural, health-focused and eco-friendly businesses.

How did Aviva do it?

She started small, setting up a deal of the month and partnering with local businesses catering to the group’s demographic and aligned with their values.

From there, she grew, setting up a paid model for the businesses in addition to the membership for the moms. She approached new businesses to join. She started participating in events and marketplaces.

As you can imagine, this was tough for an introvert!

But she made it through by keeping her eye on the prize. She learned that you need to remind yourself of what you’re trying to build, in order to push yourself through those barriers.

“Embrace the uncomfortableness of it all. You have to,” Aviva says. “Because, as an introvert, you will feel uncomfortable doing these things… it’s a given. But if you’re going to get past that and get out of your own way, as they say, you have to. You won’t get to where you want to be without feeling weird sometimes.”

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode of the Quiet Powerhouse podcast,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • How Aviva turned a 30-person Facebook group into a community with 20,000 members
  • Why you should work on getting more comfortable with face-to-face meetings — and the #1 tip to help you clear that hurdle
  • The pros of setting up lifelong memberships over annual

“I can appear to be extroverted… I can fake it for a period of time, but that really drains my energy. People are always so surprised to learn that I’m introverted. I feel like I can hide it pretty well.”

“Pinterest is not a social platform, it’s a search engine. So, you don’t have to engage with people, and you don’t have to always be connecting and commenting.”

— Tara Reid

Many marketing methods are overwhelming, stressful, or even terrifying for introverts. Facebook Lives? Instagram Reels? Networking? Putting yourself out there?

Introvert coach (and fellow introvert) Tara Reid gets it.

An online entrepreneur and business owner since 2007, she’s spent the last few years honing in on one aspect of marketing that is absolutely ideal for introverted business owners.

Pinterest.

Why is Pinterest so great for introverts? It’s a search engine, rather than a social platform. So it’s less about building connections and engaging with followers than it is about sharing great content and having your content shared by them.

And Pinterest is a smart place for your content to live — posts on Pinterest have a shelf life of a year or longer, if the content is good enough. Compare that to Instagram, where posts will show up on timelines for 5 hours, at most!

The platform can be used to generate sales, drive traffic to your blog or website, or get people to sign up to your email list, depending on the type of business and your goals. All you need are a few tips and tricks to optimize your content — and Tara is here to help you pin with confidence!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode of the Quiet Powerhouse podcast,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • Common mistakes most people make when beginning to market on Pinterest
  • The perfect original content v. re-pin ratio (and how not to get flagged as a spammer)!
  • One tool that will simplify your entire Pinterest process — and the social bonuses of signing up!

“If it takes off, a pin can be at the top of search results and getting you traffic or leads for months or years down the line.”

— Tara Reid

About Tara Reid

Tara has been an online entrepreneur and business owner since 2007, when she launched a handmade jewelry business. She transitioned to helping other business owners on their Pinterest marketing and strategy, and has been a full-time Pinterest Manager since 2015 through The Introvert Coach. She is the CEO of both Entrepreneur Templates and The Introvertpreneur Club, and loves helping fellow introverts discover less stressful marketing methods — and grow their businesses without the overwhelm!

“Perfectionism can be a killer for entrepreneurs.”

— Julie Greenham

For a long time, perfectionism had been held up as a positive trait, something that drove people to achieve greatness.

The reality? Isn’t so rosy.

Perfectionism is driven by the internal pressures and unrealistic expectations we put on ourselves, and stems from a fear of being judged, rejected, or seen as a failure.

It can develop as a reaction to our childhood experiences. It can be restricted to certain activities, such as those relating to our work, or extend to all realms of our lives.

Perfectionism doesn’t make you better. It just makes you stop trying.

When I was a perfectionist, if I made a simple mistake or got tripped up on a word while doing a live video, I’d stop recording and pretend I’d been disconnected!

In an ‘all or nothing’ mindset, everything is either perfect … or absolute garbage. This allows no room for errors. Which means that there is no room for growth.

Perfectionism doesn’t drive productivity. It destroys it.

If you spend six hours tweaking a promotional graphic to make it perfect, what other tasks aren’t getting done? Does it matter if the text is misaligned by one pixel? People will look at the image for a few seconds, at most.

All of the tiny details you get caught up on mean nothing in the bigger picture of your business.

Perfectionism doesn’t make you more likeable.

Do you know what makes people likeable? Relatability.

Do you know what’s not relatable?

Perfection.

Being authentic and vulnerable helps other people connect with you. That is more important than having them believe you’re perfect.

Let go of your perfectionism!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode of the Quiet Powerhouse podcast,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • How perfectionism can work against you in both your business and personal life
  • 8 easy-to-implement tips to help you cut down on your perfectionistic tendencies

“The goal of the words that you write for and about your business is obviously to inform ... but there is also an opportunity to connect, which is the big opportunity.”

— Janet Nielsen

What’s in a word? In the hands of the right writer, a word can mean the difference between a sale and a missed opportunity.

Janet Nielsen is a gifted copywriter who works almost exclusively with small businesses and entrepreneurs, helping them build strong connections with their customers, express their personality, and refine their messaging into its most potent and saleable form.

An introvert herself, Janet knows how difficult it can be for introverted business owners to write about themselves and their offerings.

Introverts often feel that they don’t have anything interesting to say but, as Janet says, “There is always a story. Every entrepreneur has a personality and my job is just to dig around until I figure out what that is, and show them what it looks like in writing.”

Sometimes you need to see your brand voice in writing to really understand what it is — and the impact it can have on your customers. Even the quietest of powerhouses can find powerful voices through their written words!

So, how do you uncover your own interesting story and personality?

And how do you write copy that makes potential customers excited to work with you?

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode of the Quiet Powerhouse podcast,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • 3 key ingredients to writing copy that build connections and inspires conversions
  • 2 reasons why entrepreneurs find it difficult to write about themselves and their brand — and how to overcome them
  • How to write authentic copy that aligns with your brand (and personal) values

“We’re going for progress, not perfection. Copywriting isn’t math — there isn’t one right answer or one right way to do it. There’s lots of different versions of what could be good.”

— Janet Nielsen

About Janet Nielsen

A self-described introvert with some extrovert tendencies, Janet is the founder of The Copy Curator and a copywriter who helps entrepreneurs reach and connect with more dream customers with their copy. She’s worked almost exclusively with small businesses and entrepreneurs for nearly 8 years and loves every minute.

“Someone is always going to be better at something. Someone is always going to be worse at something. The only thing you can control is you, and improving, and learning, so that you’re better tomorrow than you were yesterday.” — Jenn Wu

The drive to be the best isn’t the productivity booster that you’d think.

Jenn Wu grew up as a perfectionist and often judged herself based on her school grades. This drive for greatness followed her into her career and throughout her time in the corporate world.

Her focus on perfection didn’t allow her any room to experiment, learn from her mistakes, or develop the ability to cope with setbacks healthily.

“Through my entrepreneurial journey, I was holding myself back … I was saying ‘well, if it’s not going to be perfect, if I’m not going to be the best at it, I’m just not going to do it’,” Jenn reveals. “And changing my mindset around that — learning that I can make mistakes, and I can learn and grow — it doesn’t make me a failure. Taking that ‘failure’ word out of my vocabulary opened me up to doing this.”

Now, Jenn realizes that striving for perfection the way that she did wasn’t a fast track to success. But she’s cracked the code to help others escape the same trap!

Jenn created Heart of A Hero, a journal that helps kids between the ages of 5 and 10 develop a growth mindset from an early age, setting them up for success. The term was coined by psychologist Carol Dweck, and refers to the belief that you can develop and improve skills and characteristics, as well as recognize mistakes or failures as opportunities for new wisdom.

On the other hand, a fixed mindset is the belief that you’re stuck with the abilities and traits that you’re born with, and nothing you do can change them.

If that isn’t a limiting belief, I don’t know what is!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode of the Quiet Powerhouse podcast,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • Small changes you can make every day to shift yourself into a growth mindset
  • The trick to transform a gratitude practice from lip service to lifelong benefit
  • Why we should take advantage of our “unprecedented times” to tune into ourselves and make vital and lasting changes

“This is a challenging time for adults and children … but it’s also an opportunity for us to tune into ourselves, and help kids in a less hurried environment develop these skills.”

— Jenn Wu

About Jenn Wu

Jenn Wu is the founder of Spark Journals and the creator of Heart of A Hero, a journal that introduces a growth mindset to children ages 5-10 and helps them build lifelong tools to handle stress and anxiety.

As introverts, we’re quite comfortable having one-on-one conversations or video calls. But terror strikes when we’re the one speaking to an audience of many, whether in a recorded or live video.

Michelle Daides is my guest on today’s episode. She addresses the common fears we quiet souls experience putting ourselves in front of the camera and hitting the “go live” or record button. This anxiety stems from putting the emphasis on our “performance” when, in reality, it should be less about us and more about the value in what we’re communicating to serve our viewers. They want to learn something from you. They’re not looking to be entertained. That’s the job of professional actors.

Michelle offers a ton of excellent advice in this episode to help us prepare mentally and physically to show up confidently and authentically on video. You can do it! No previous acting experience required.

The most important relationship in the world is the one you have with yourself. And yet we spend so much more time observing others and comparing ourselves to them than we do checking in with ourselves.

In this episode my guest, Claudia Aronowitz, explains how this can lead to self-loathing. She offers great advice on how to check in with yourself and embrace your own values and who you are to the core. Once you learn to love and accept yourself, you’ll see yourself in a truer light—as a beautifully flawed AND talented being. Just like everyone else—and yet set apart from everyone else. That’s humanity.

Claudia is an accomplished professional coach and mediator certified with the International Coach Federation. She holds a certificate in Positive Psychology, and is trained in Organizational Relationships Systems Coaching.

Claudia is an engaging, strategic thinker who, prior to becoming a coach, spent over 20 years as a leader in the health and not-for-profit sectors.

Today, as a Personal Development and Relationships Coach, Claudia uses compassion, insight and straightforward communication to support her clients through change and transition. Once in that role, one facet that gave her great fulfillment was coaching her team on their personal growth and professional development to move up within the organization. After over a decade of guiding each person to confidently apply their newly discovered or developed skills to take on more challenging and fulfilling roles in their careers - while living balanced personal lives - something clicked for her.

She made a decision it was time for her corporate journey to end and started to will the Universe to get laid off… And it happened! Without hesitation, she returned to school to start her own transition into becoming a Certified Life Skills Coach. Deciding on a niche was easy because she knew that she wanted to continue helping people in Transition walk in their true Purpose.

It was during her own transition, which became a journey to self-awareness, that CJ started asking herself questions that she felt were important to address if you want to feel more fulfilled and she started to pay more attention to the importance of understanding Mindset.

Now, through the Emotion into Motion Model™, she highlights the benefit of finding balance between personal development and professional growth by understanding how much our experiences, emotions, mental blocks and limiting beliefs can influence our thoughts and impact our actions - ultimately how we show up in our Businesses or Careers.

She helps her clients take their Mindset from Struggling to Strategic, by overcoming obstacles like discomfort or navigating the stages of Loss, and get the necessary Clarity to approach their new path strategically through effective planning and goal settings, so that they get results that are aligned with their values.

My guest today is entrepreneur and graphic designer Danielle Lewis. The very nature of Danielle’s work is helping business owners promote their brand and presence. The online space is where she thrives and feels authentic as an introvert—for her clients and herself.

Danielle has found that sharing about herself on social media gives clients and prospects a glimpse into her values and the type of person she is and, therefore, what it would be like to work with her. In return, she appreciates honest communication in a business relationship and encourages clients to give her feedback even if it’s uncomfortable because it’s the best way to collaborate. It has even turned clients into friends. During our conversation, Danielle touches on a few different examples of the issues that are important to her and how speaking up about them has helped herself and others.

She teaches us that introverts can use their introspective better than others and advocate where it’s needed.

BIO

Danielle Lewis, the creative force behind Danielle Lewis Designs, is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design’s Graphic Design program, living and working in Toronto’s East End community. Her talents and her ten-plus years’ experience as a graphic designer shine through in each one of her projects, spanning multiple industries. She loves working with business owners to create branding that is meaningful, original, and tailored to her clients’ specific needs.

Community and partnership are important pillars in Danielle Lewis Designs' brand. Danielle is passionate about helping others and strives to demonstrate the value of supporting local businesses and her own community through her work.

She is the double recipient of Mamas & Co’s Community Ambassador Award, which is given to one member every year who exemplifies their core values. Danielle is also an avid supporter, contributor, and advocate of The New Mom Project and The Period Purse.

Have you sometimes noticed that when you set a business goal or desire for yourself, you start seeing peers in your industry acquire the very same "thing" you're wanting to create.

Whether it's a new launch that you've spent months planning or a product that is similar to yours that was in the works... others have launch them before you did.

It's easy to get stuck in the "why them, why now, why not me?" thinking. Often, we start playing the comparison game and that often leads us down the path of beating ourselves up thinking we are not good enough, smart enough or not deserving of business success.

Today, I'm introducing you to the Driftwood Concept so that next time you're noticing that others are having what you desire, it's a great indication as to what is coming for you.

Today my guest is Sharon Roe, a writer and editor. Several years ago she experienced personal and financial adversities and needed to reinvent herself. After a longer than expected job search without any offers, Sharon decided to start her own business without any formal training. A daunting task for sure! But she did it, and continues to grow her business today, by developing her emotional toolbox.

In this episode Sharon shares her struggles and outlines the 5 things she either needed to embrace or release, to not only survive but thrive. Her advice will help other introverted business owners grow and succeed regardless of their life experiences and current skill level. All it takes are the right tools and the right attitude.

BIO

In a couple of past lives, Sharon has handed out alcohol samples at local liquor stores, sold sapphires and rubies to sheikhs from the Middle East, taught English to 75 year old Japanese ladies, and edited more than a few romance novels.

These days, she’s utilizing the skills picked up from those diverse experiences to teach writers how to tell stories that won’t let their readers go. “Come. Look at this ruby under the light.”

“What do you do?” is a question most introverts dread being asked. My guest this week, Monica Schrock, explains why.

At this point, I would normally tell you a bit about Monica. But in light of this topic, I invite you to listen in to find out who she is and what she does.

She makes insightful points on this subject and explains her own past struggles in proclaiming her zone of genius and how she overcame them.

BIO

Monica is a cautiously optimistic, introverted copywriter with a mean coffee habit and serious nerd streak living in the Pacific Northwest.

She revels at the intersection between cause and strategy, hoping to make the world a better place one word at a time. Monica has spent the last 13 years navigating the inherently extroverted profession of marketing, helping over 200 clients craft their message, and increase their sales or donations from double to over ten times.

Her true joy lies at the moment she gets to craft a message that captures the essence of why a movement, organization, or brand was created.

Now she helps introverted business owners make a full-time income with their services without the pressure of acting extroverted through marketing confidence and words that convert.
