On the first ever video episode for Latter-day Takes, Andrew Young joins the podcast to talk about his experiences at Dreamworks and how there is an open agenda by the studios (Disney, Pixar, etc.) to "social engineer" children to think a certain way. Specifically attacking families, religion, tradition, etc. Andrew gives examples which is what makes the video necessary. We are also joined by Dr. Steve Holiday, a children and media researcher at the University of Alabama who provides amazing insights based on media consumption by children that he has personally researched. On today's episode a friend of mine, Bryan Harper, comes on to talk about his unique upbringing in the church and how baseball played a focal point for him and his entire family and then his eventual return to the church due to true conversion to the gospel. Bryan has lived a unique life as a college baseball national champion for the University of South Carolina, a minor league pitcher for multiple years at all levels and a brother who is still heavily involved in the baseball world. However, Bryan's journey revolves around how he came around once again to the church and re-discovering his testimony and solidifying himself in the gospel through true conversion at a much later age in his life. Outside of my conversation with Bryan I share a funny missionary email from my nephew as well as a trial of faith highlighted in the Book of Mormon through prominent figures. Enjoy!

On today's pod I start off with a recap of my experience at the BYU/Oregon football game, I highlight a clip of Don Lemon getting completely owned on his own show and then I am honored to bring on Eric Moutsos who made a name for himself by being fired from the SLCPD for refusing to hit citation quotas (when he was already the best on his squad). From there he started pushing back on government overreach wherever he saw it and specifically during the COVID lockdowns when he refused to let the government dictate how we're able to live day-to-day. On today's special Friday episode, Jeff Hansen comes on to clear the air from my gripe that I had shared on the most recent episode of Latter Day Takes and all the twitter exchanges we've had. Per Jeff's suggestion, we talk it out and both give our view of the situation and it was a very pleasant and positive conversation. Really cool of Jeff to suggest this and I love that, although we don't agree 100% on everything, we're able to come to an understanding that is mutual and very constructive. It's a reminder that we don't all have to agree on everything (even though Jeff points out that we mainly did and do agree more than we disagreed).

And then we get into more hypotheticals with the brothers Jake and Josh Cutler that include having to eat a hot tub full of peanut butter, crawling everywhere for six months to win a house in Chattanooga, Tennessee and saving the life of Abe Lincoln and much more. Then I close it out with a rant on the White House attempting to change the definition of recession and how we shouldn't let the government dictate how we feel about our own fate and how that relates to all the people in history who have elected to not be kings when given the opportunity. On today's episode I talk about the relative perception of miracles. I wanted to address President Nelson's encouragement to members of the church to "seek and expect miracles" and what that may mean to us. And then I bring back Josh and Taylor Cutler who were on EP 79 back in December, 2021 talking about the supreme court's decision to re-evaluate Roe v. Wade and the reason behind that. Well, fast forward to today and we wanted to rehash some of that discussion because of how relevant that is now and the extreme likelihood (due to the leak) that it will be overturned in the next month and a half. Josh and Taylor bring a great legal perspective and we talk about why it was a bad decision, the role of the supreme court in general and how this isn't as much a win for pro-lifers as it is for freedom in general. In this episode I'm joined by an old friend, Siale (Charlie) Langi, who has had quite the life experience already by his mid-30's having gotten sandwiched on the freeway between his own car on the shoulder and another car passing him going 75 MPH. Siale's life was saved by the doctors who had operated on him right away, and the subsequent surgeries did not guarantee that he would be able to walk again unassisted. But not only did Siale overcome the dire outlook in his life, he decided to push forward and set a current goal of being a part of the Paralympics. His goals are to either participate or continue coaching as he's been a force for a lot of other paralympians. Incredible and inspiring story. Enjoy!

Decided to amputate it when he was 16. Despite all of this he was still able to thrive in life with hard work and sports among many other things. In this episode I bring on an old friend of mine from the BYU days to talk about her experience with her husband getting hit by a car and losing the use of his legs two months into their marriage. Jill Patten has experienced quite a bit in her first couple years of marriage and she goes through and details how she and her husband (Austin) met and the events that led up to his accident. In this episode I bring on a friend since freshman year at BYU, Chris Chineme, who’s parents emigrated from Nigeria before he was born and we talk about all the amazing blessings that come from being in this country. In this episode I give some further thoughts on the idea of radical mormons and what their rules might be (1:04). On today’s episode I go through who my top-5 Book of Mormon Father’s are. Spoiler alert: it’s very arbitrary (3:10). Then from there I get into a recent study that claimed ⅕ gen Zs in the church identify as LGBT+, and mainly bisexual (18:15). And then I close it out talking about a new idea (but not original) about the idea of mormon radicals. Rules for mormon radicals is an idea I want to look into going forward, because it seems like we’re seeing a lot of radical members of the church trying to change it from within. Enjoy!

In this inaugural episode of Latter-Day Takes my mom joins the pod (again) to give her take on the excommunication (not the correct term anymore) of a sex therapist from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My mom, a marriage and family counselor herself, is well versed in this arena and has the credentials to give her view on the situation. She was engaged at a young age at BYU and didn't realize how bad of a relationship she was in until she was in an environment she was comfortable in. Elder Uchtdorf (or somebody close to him, and in his name) donated money to three major democratic campaigns. This is against church policy, he released a statement to shed some light on it and acknowledge that it was against policy. We talk about the interesting components that surround that whole conversation. Then we dive into some BYU news and I go on a huge rant of why I think Tom Holmoe's career at large is overrated as BYU's athletic director.
