The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is a federal program
available from December through March. The program will assist households with their home heating needs, so they won't have to choose between heating their homes and paying for other basic needs.

This month Hospitality House of Charlotte is deep into their Heart-to-Heart campaign for the second year. This Heart-to-Heart event raises funds for patients in need and gives a visual representation of the community’s impact on HHOC’s mission. For every $50 donation – the cost of one night’s stay – one heart will be planted on HHOC’s lawn. Thompson is a strong and compassionate human services leader who transforms lives through early childhood, family stability, and mental health services. Thompson achieves this by providing comprehensive, evidence-based services, and trauma-informed care, for children (ages 0-18) and their families, virtually and in person.

Parents should talk to their kids about how financial sextortion happens. Scammers will create fake social media accounts to coerce victims into sending explicit photos or videos. For eleven consecutive years, the Queen City Omegas of Charlotte Foundation and community partners have donated more than $300 thousand in scholarship funds to assist area youth, ages 7-17, to achieve their dreams and aspirations. The annual event provides funding for the following programs: Boys Summer Camp, College Scholarships for High School Graduates, Chess Club, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), Robotics, and the Talent Hunt. A 2022 Statista report revealed that 56% of American teens were concerned about their future. Past Basileus / Board Member Rayshion Sashington says that their programs serve as a catalyst for positive youth development, academic support, social and emotional development, prevention, and intervention that empowers young people to reach their full potential. “Our programs help our youth make informed choices that empower them to contribute to society.”

This event closes the gap in communication by getting people talking and helping families understand along with veterans any issues they may have.

Francene Marie interviewed Kevin Kendrick about his compassion to serve our community in such a unique way. He volunteers with NC MED ASSIST and loves every moment.
We met Kevin Kendrick when he was receiving his Joyce of Excellence in Volunteerism Award at the 2023 NC MED ASSIST Executive Luncheon.
Kendrick was born in Detroit, Michigan, the fifth of five children in his family. After graduating from college in 1978, Kevin began a career in law enforcement starting with the Wayne State University Police Department, and the Detroit Police Department and culminating with 25 years in the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
We are so proud of His last assignment as the Special Agent in Charge of the Charlotte Division of the FBI where he spent two years and developed a love for North Carolina. He and his wife, Jenny, relocated to Midland, Michigan when he was hired to become the Vice President of Global Security for the Dow Corning Corporation, a position he held from 2006-2017.

As Sexual Assault Awareness Month and National Child Abuse Prevention Month approach in April, Brave Step challenges the community to “Color It Blue.”
- It's estimated that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 13 boys in the United States experience child sexual abuse.
- Ninety-one percent of child sexual abuse perpetrators are individuals known by the child victim or their family members.
- Every 68 seconds someone is sexually assaulted in the United States. Every 9 minutes, that victim is a child.
- One hundred percent of us are impacted by sexual violence.
“Color It Blue is Brave Step’s signature campaign to encourage survivors, loved ones, allies, and the community to embody advocacy and initiate new conversations about the pervasive issue of sexual violence,” said Dr. Lisa Littlejohn Hill, board president. “Each day, we see the life-altering mental, physical, social, financial and spiritual impact of sexual violence, and it is our responsibility to challenge the community to be brave and make a difference. Color It Blue is an easy way to take that first step.”

In March of 2022, Antrell Tyson was appointed to serve as Regional Director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for Region 4. As the Regional Director Tyson is responsible for eight Southeastern states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee, as well as the region’s six federally recognized Tribes.

Her story is brave, full of challenges but Dr. Joy is giving back to a community of women for an ongoing campaign at her spa in South Charlotte. Yes, White Diamond Medical Clinic and Spa has launched a new campaign titled, A Diamond’s Spa Day”, to help bring awareness to breast cancer and domestic violence, and to highlight superwomen in the Charlotte community. Six women total will receive various treatments, at no cost, including: PRP Hair Restoration, which has platelets that secrete growth factors to help stimulate hair growth after chemotherapy treatments; Salt Hydrotherapy Bath, a combination of pool salt and essential oils which help with relaxation, skin and sinus issues and body pain; and Customized Facials with 3D Skin Analysis, which addresses issues associated with skin damage.

Breastfeeding is part of Mecklenburg County's Public Health strategy, improving community outcomes for maternal and child health. Public Health is working to expand education efforts to communities by engaging businesses, faith based organizations, childcare facilities, local hospitals to normalize breast feeding and increase community support for breastfeeding families.
North Carolina’s infant mortality rate dipped by 1.4 percent in 2016 to 7.2 deaths per 1,000 births, compared with the 2015 rate of 7.3 infant deaths. The infant death rate has essentially plateaued, although this slight decrease is encouraging.
The state’s lowest infant rate was 7.0 in 2010. North Carolina’s infant mortality rate is the twelfth highest in the Country. The bottom line, breastfeeding saves lives. If 90% of families exclusively breastfed for 6 months, nearly 1,000 infant deaths could be prevented.
