November is National Diabetes Month, a time when communities across the country come together to raise awareness and discuss detection and management of this prevalent disease.
Some people with diabetes also suffer from painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), a deliberating and progressive neurological disorder that affects approximately 30% of the diabetes patient population.

Learning to swim is a very serious issue in the Black community. Longstanding issues of race and class have meant that pools are either not present in Black communities or are poorly maintained. Parents who can’t swim are less likely to have children who can swim or encourage their children to learn.
Drawing from his personal experience of nearly drowning as a child, Johnnie thought it important to look at the role of swimming in the black community. Johnnie’s inspiration for SWIM TEAM was to encourage young African American children to get in the pool and learn to swim.
For the first time in 31 years of performing, Atlanta’s Ballethnic Dance Company has been invited to perform in Washington D.C. as part of a week-long celebration in recognition of Juneteenth. The John F. In 2020, it was estimated that more than 191,000 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer making it one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in men in the U.S. And while prevalent, evidence suggests the disease is more common, aggressive and deadly among Black men compared to other racial groups.
On this episode, I am joined by St. Louis Surgeon and Urologist Dr. Arnold Bullock to share important information on what all men, especially Black men, can do to better understand why this population of men are disproportionately affected, in addition to sharing information around the prostate cancer screening process.
Also joining this important discussion is Washington University-St. Louis Radiation Oncologist Dr. Lannis Hall, who provides information on prostate cancer risk factors, signs and symptoms and advice on how men and their loved ones can advocate for their health to ensure earlier diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

Larry King passed away on January 23, 2021 at the age of 87.

On this episode, I am joined by Dr. Patricia Whitley Williams, President of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) to discuss the skepticism of the Covid-19 vaccine among the African-American community.
Recent surveys show that in the US, Black adults are more worried about co-infection with COVID-19 and influenza (flu) than White and Hispanic adults. However, despite this concern, a large percentage of Black adults say they will not get a COVID-19 vaccine when eligible, and they are either unsure about getting or will not get a flu vaccine this season. This reflects a long history of mistrust of the healthcare system and misinformation around vaccination that healthcare professionals must address.

It may go up and down like a roller coaster, but that’s not what you want your cholesterol to do.
High cholesterol has no symptoms, so while you can’t see it or feel it, it can silently be putting you at risk for heart disease, heart attack and stroke if left unchecked. Bottom line – you need to check on a regular basis to be sure your numbers are still in the safe zone.
