From Louisville, Kentucky to New Orleans, Louisiana the people in the southern United States have passed down ghost stories from generation to generation. Each week we will tell the story of two places and let you decide if they are really haunted.
Long to have been rumored to be the inspiration for Walt Disney's Haunted Mansion attraction, the Hamilton Turner Inn in Savannah, Georgia is said to be one of the most haunted places in Lafayette Square. From tales of children tragically dying to soldiers who fought in the area during the American Revolution, there is a lot of history in the area.
Join us as we take a deep dive into the historic inn and the ghosts that roam the building in this week's show.
For years inmates have been trying to escape the Old, Old, Williamson County Jail in Franklin, Tennessee. We are taking a deep dive into the history of the jail and some of the colorful characters such as Clayton "Rabbit" Veach in a very special episode that is dedicated to Steve "Happy" Taylor.
I've been bombarded with messages from people who want to go ghost hunting the past few months. After a challenging 2020 people are itching to get out and do some investigating. Quietly tucked away behind the Murfreesboro Square you will find the Childress House that belonged to the brother in law of former President James K. Polk. Built in 1847, the old house is now a popular Airbnb location in middle Tennessee.
The historic home is believed to be haunted by former Union soldiers as well as slaves. In fact, there is a tunnel in one of the outbuilding that has been bricked up that supposedly led across the street.

Built in 1887 the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum in St. Augustine, Florida is actually a castle named Castle Warden that was converted into a hotel. The old building was also the scene of a mysterious fire in 1944 that claimed the lives of two ladies. Was the fire an accident or was the deadly blaze set to cover up a murder? Either way, the museum is said to be haunted by one of the ladies who perished in the hotel fire.

Built in the early 19th century for the Maney family, the Oaklands Mansion is one of the most historic homes in Murfreesboro. When Nathan Bedford Forrest led his cavalry into Murfreesboro in 1862 his men skirmished with Federal soldiers on the front lawn. Over the years numerous children died in the home and it's believed this is the source of the hauntings in the home. After fires decimated the Gallatin square in the 19th century, hauntings are now a common occurrence. One of the most active haunted areas of the square just happens to be in a hallway that was a small shopping center in the 1980s and 90s called the Enlow Center. Each business that still occupies retail space in the strip often has strange experiences that can't be explained. Built in 1851, the Marshall House was the most luxurious hotel in Savannah, Georgia of its time. But in 1864, when General Sherman marched the Federal army into Savannah, he took over the building and used it as a hospital for his men. Today the Marshall House is once again a hotel but some of those spirits from the war have chosen to stay behind and still reside on the property.

Like most places in Salem,Massachusetts Saint Peter's Episcopal Church can trace it's origins back to the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Phillip English, a wealthy shipping merchant was accused of being a witch after speaking out about the witch trials when his wife was accused. The trials led to English's imprisonment and a showdown with crooked sheriff George Corwin. English regained some of his property and eventually sold a plot of land to a church for a sanctuary and a burying ground. Over time the church grew and expanded over the graves. Today it's thought to be one of the most haunted buildings in Salem.

Built for a slave trader in the early 19th century, the Beauregard-Keyes House is one of the most historic homes in the French Quarter. After the Civil War it was home to Confederate General P. G.T. Beauregard and later acclaimed Frances Parkinson Keyes. The house is said to be home to some spirits that lost their lives in a deadly mafia shootout in the 1900s. Many claim that General Beauregard is also roaming the property lamenting a terrible decision during the war that cost many of his men their lives. On December 10, 1909 one of the most gruesome murders in Georgia's history took place in Savannah. After hearing moaning coming from the boarding house of Eliza Gribble police discovered two dead women and another knocking on death's door. What police discovered sent them on a wild goose chase that may or may not have led them to the killer. But one thing is for sure-the Gribble House is thought to be haunted by those whose lives were taken that cold December morning. Andrew Low came to Savannah, Georgia to work at his uncle's cotton firm as a teenager. Through the years Low became one of the wealthiest men in the area. Like most prominent businessmen Low lived a double life and wound up cheating on his wife, Juliette Gordon Low, who would go onto form the Girl Scouts.

The old Nelson County jail in Bardstown, Kentucky is now known as the Jailer's Inn. However, at one time it was home to some of the worst criminals in the Commonwealth over the years. In St. James Court, in the heart of Old Louisville, you will find the Pink Palace. Now, the building wasn't always pink and initially it was where the upper crust of Louisville came to unwind and spend some time with ladies of the night. That would change as the house changed hands and eventually the Woman's Christian Temperance Union took over and painted the building pink.

In November 1932 wealthy Chicago businessman Joseph F. Hirt and some friends and family left for Florida in a small plane that he was piloting. Unfortunately Hirt got lost and wound up flying around in circles over Smith County, Tennessee. Tragically, the plane crashed into side of a large hill. The home of the wealthiest slave trader in America is also one of the most haunted places in Tennessee. The house was used as a hospital during the Civil War and it's rumored that a dying soldier wrote his last wishes on the inside cover of a book in the library. YMCA founder Franklin W. Smith came to St. Augustine with dreams of opening a lavish resort for all his snowbird friends up north. Unfortunately after he built the hotel he ran out of money and it was bought by Henry Flagler. And like Flagler's other old hotel the Casa Monica is thought to be one of the most haunted places in St. Augustine.
The fourth floor and room 411 in particular is said to be very haunted. In fact, some of the staff refuses to go into the room by themselves!

In the late 19th century Antonio Monteleone opened a hotel in the French Quarter that quickly became the place to be. Literary giants such as William Faulkner and Tennessee Williams spent an extensive amount of time in the hotel. But the hotel isn't just known for its history. Like most places in New Orleans, the hotel is believed to be extremely haunted.
While there are numerous spirits in the old hotel the most notorious one is a little boy named Maurice who has been spotted on the fourteenth floor.

While the Tennessee State Prison is best known as the place where Tom Hanks filmed The Green Mile, the old prison is believed to be one of the most haunted places in the Volunteer State. For 90 years the prison was home to some of the most vile murderers, rapists and other hardened criminals. In fact, James Earl Ray, the man who killed Dr. Martin Luther King spent time in the prison before it was shut down in 1992.

Built in 1900, the old Bullitt County courthouse was ground zero for one of the most deadliest train crashes in the history of Kentucky in December 1917. Two trains full of people who had been out Christmas shopping collided approximately 40 feet from the building. While the injured were taken to nearby churches and hospitals the dead were brought to the courthouse.
Since the deadly crash 'The Lady in Lace' has been spotted inside the courthouse and people claim to see and hear strange things inside the building.

Anyone who goes to Savannah, Georgia is familiar with the Waving Girl statue on River Street. Honoring local woman Florence Martus, the statue was erected in 1971 and is considered to be the unofficial greeter to every ship that comes into the Port of Savannah.
Although Florence was a beloved and celebrated figure in the low country some say her spirit isn't happy as the statue has been moved in recent years. Some say at night the statue has been known to come alive and the young lady has been seen moving her arms back and forth signaling to ships in the night.

In 1849 Samuel Parkman loaned Dr. John Webster some money after he fell on hard times. The loan would be the root of one the greatest murder mysteries of the mid-19th century that shook Boston to it's core.

With lectures and debates from notable authors and dignitaries people flocked to Lyceum Hall in the 19th century. Originally a silent movie theatre in the heart of Savannah Georgia, the Lucas Theatre opened in 1921 and was the first building in the Low Country to have air conditioning. However, as television became increasingly more popular the theatre saw a steep decline in attendance and had to shut down in 1976. German immigrant Johann Lotz moved to Franklin, Tennessee to open a carpentry business. However, as the Civil War ravaged the country Lotz's home became ground zero for the Battle of Franklin on November 30, 1864. The battle ended with over 9,000 casualties, most of which took place in Lotz's front yard. Now the Lotz House is thought to be the most haunted place in Franklin, Tennessee.

After earning the first license to mix and dispense medicine in Louisiana Louis Dufilho Jr. opened a pharmacy in the French Quarter, even though he practiced primitive procedures like bloodletting and leeches Dufilho was a respected apothecary. However, Dr. Joseph Dupas, the man who bought his old building and opened up his own practice was quite the opposite. He was was one of the most vile and evil men to practice medicine in New Orleans.

Before the Civil War the son of a wealthy judge, John Overton Jr. bought a plot of land in downtown Nashville and began building a lavish hotel. Then when the Union army rolled into town the unfinished hotel became a prison where captured Confederate soldiers were held. After the war the hotel was finished and was one of the premier places to stay in Nashville in the early 20th century. Unfortunately a deadly fire in 1961 destroyed the building.

The Omni Parker House is one of the most historic hotels in Boston. It's hosted every United States President since Ulysses S. Delphine LaLaurie is one of the most controversial figures in the history of New Orleans. A descendant of a prominent Irish family LaLaurie married into money on three seperate occasions and was considered to be one of the most prominent women in the Crescent City.
However, despite her immense wealth and prestigious spot in New Orlean's upper crust LaLaurie was rumored to beat and mutilate slaves in her home for years. It was a loosely kept secret until a fire in her home led to a gruesome discovery when firefighters discovered what Madame Lalaurie was really up to.

Long before the Moon River Brewing Company set up shop on West Bay Street the building was home to the City Hotel. This was the scene of a tense showdown between the town bully, James Stark and a local physician, Dr. Phillip Minis that resulted in a murder. Today the brewery offers tours and allows patrons to roam about the first two floors of the building. However, the fourth floor is off limits as it is inhabited by something very dangerous.
