-it is the whole point and premise of Scripture
What is the chief end of man…
-the chief end of man is to know God…to worship and enjoy Him forever
Theme: Prayer is vital, crucial, critical, imperative to kingdom ministry and the Christian life in general
finishing up end times teachings...including the infamously promised timeline map of the end times (grin)

fellow believers in Christ
-how we watch out for one another and genuinely love one another...
: "Instructions and Exhortations for Holy Living"
Theme: extremely practical instructions for Christian living
-Christians are to be hard working, industrious, productive, members
of society…contributing to the overall welfare and prosperity of their
community
Paul moves away from the topic of end times theology for now...
-closes the letter with miscellaneous instructions and exhortations for holy Christian living
an informational sermon on the coming of the Lord and we call the "rapture of the church"
Believers are exhorted to more and more live a life pleasing the the Lord
-this requires growing and going deeper in various areas of Christian knowledge and practice
believers are often exhorted in Scripture to "encourage one another"
-we will take an indepth look at this topic
People are what's really important to God...people matter to God...God deeply cares for and is concerned for/about people...are we???
Theme: things we should know that will enable us to correctly respond to the negatives of life
-this week...the truth that we are more than overcomers in Christ
-next week...the truth that there is a purpose in the negatives...God's go it
A life truly lived for Christ will not be an 'easy' life
-we are to expect suffering, hardship, persecution, trouble, trials tribulation
-this week need to expect it...next week,,,how to properly respnd to it
Building our lives on a solid...correct foundation: God, Christ, The Word of God, Christian virtues etc.
Paul commended the Thessalonians for "receiving and accepting" the Word of God for what it truly is...just that...the Word of God...
-we will explain what it means to "receive and accept" the Word of God as the Word of God
-and we will look briefly at verses supporting the uniqueness of the Word of God
-brief message on the heart of discipleship which is "self sacrificial love and affection"
-brief message on the heart of discipleship which is "self sacrificial love and affection"
: the appeal we make refers to the core components of the gospel which we are called to share with those who do not know Jesus
: believers are called to boldly share/proclaim the gospel wherever they go, even in the midst of fierce opposition...
God is pleased and glorified when His people are effective and fruitful in ministry...believers are to give their undiminished best efforts to the ministry assignments which they are given
Theme: explanation of the doctrine "the lostness of man" and how the "heart of God" in Christ overcame/overcomes the lostness of man in our sin
Theme: when the gospel of Jesus truly penetrates a life or a locality...there is tremendous impact and life change for good
we will look extensively at the connection between thanksgiving, being thankful, giving thanks and prayer
-intentionally incorporating thanksgiving into our praying may perhaps make us more effective pray-ers
very similar to last week only this week is peace rather than grace
-the incredible peace of God that transcends earthly distress is available to believers in Jesus Chriat
we should be content with our relationship with God and what He gives us...not discontent...always seeking more of this worlds gain
the closing verses of Ephesians give us a glimpse into the person and nature of the Apostle Paul
-brief wrap up of our series on Ephesians
-opportunity for folks to share one thing they learned or gained from the series
Prayer is not part of the battle armor...it is the battle strategy...
-praying for all the Lord's people...other believers...one another is a vital, critical component of the battle strategy
-without this we suffer tremendous casualties in spiritual warfare
an attempt to better understand what Paul means by: "pray...with all kinds of prayers and requests...be alert and always keep on praying"
often times the context of a passage defines the nature of prayer referred to...the entire passage of Ephesians 6:10-12 is spiritual prayer...therefore this is fighting prayer...prayer that engages in spiritual battle
: beginning a mini-series on prayer from Ephesians 6:
-an introduction and review of general principles on biblical prayer before we look at the specific meaning in the context of spiritual warfare from Ephesians 6
"The Armor of God...the sword of the Spirit"
Theme: the sword of the spirit is the word of God
-we will develop the theme "prevailing in spiritual warfare with God's word"
The helmet of salvation protects us from the onslaught of the enemy by taking away the "fear of death" Our eternal destiny is sure because we are saved.
the breast of righteousness protects the believer from the deception of the enemy who wants to keep us in bondage to condemnation and intimidation due to a sin conciousness,
-many believers have more of a sin consciousness than a Christ consciousness
Truth counters deception
-truth as a part of the Armor of God has a defensive and an offensive usage/value
believers are exhorted to "stand their ground" against the devil and his schemes
-we will explain what Paul meant by "stand your ground" and why it is so important
Scripture support giving believer's assurance we have victory over our spiritual enemies in Christ
-we fight from a position of victory..not defeat
: we do not fight against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces in heavenly realms
-the intention is that we gain an awareness of the heavenly realm and the true nature of the battle
we do not fight against flesh and blood, human beings...
-flesh and blood, human beings are not the primary enemy...they are victims of the enemy who need to be set free
-the primary purpose of spiritual warfare is that lost souls (human beings) come to Jesus and are set free from sin and Satan
: Believers are instructed, admonished and commanded to take a stand against the schemes of the enemy/devil
Paul is about to launch into some teaching on what we call "spiritual warfare"
-first thing he needs them to know, they must be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might...
we will wrap up this passage, Ephesians 5:21-6:9, in which Paul addresses obedience and submission to earthly authority.
He will be addressing the need for believers to be willing to fully comit to living for the Lord
-children are to obey, respect, and honor their parents
-parents are to lovingly nurture, instruct and correct their children
: Ephesians 6:1-4
we will address from Scripture the many misconceptions prevalent in our society regarding gender and marriage
Ephesians 5:22-32
Scriptures admonishes us to remember all that God has done...and to forget all these things and focus on the present and future...how confusing??? :-)
a comparative look at the seasons of nature and how they relate to the seasons of life...and...how to live for the Lord in each
Out of jealousy...King Herod tried to kill the baby Jesus and effectively "steal" Christmas from the world
-thank God that He intervened and Herod (Satan) was ineffective/not successful
-there is a principle in this account that we can apply to our lives today
a look at seven biblical principles God has given to help His people find and know His will for us
The will of God for His people is that His people live life in a spirit of thanksgiving...being thankful...giving thanks
The will of God for His people is that we should give generously...
-there are tremendous biblical promises from God for compliance to His will in this area
rejoice always...at all times...for this is God's will for you
-God's will relates to more than our vocation and location...it touches who we are...how we think...our attitudes and our mindset towards life and the circumstances of life
The will of God and prayer
-we will explain the reason believers are to pray in accordance with God's will
: the will of God and troubles in life
-can we experience troubles (hardship, difficulties, trails, persecution, sorrow, etc. in life...even if we are in the will of God?
-we explain the answer to that Sinday
: Romans 12:1-2 is the starting place for experiencing God's will in our lives...offer yourselves to the Lord...then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is...that good pleasing perfect will of God
Application: opportunity to “offer/present” yourself to the Lord today...
believers are to live lives that are wise in the sight of the Lord
-lives brought in line with the Word, Ways, and Will of God
: a look at what the Bible has to say about the many times/ways God"tests" His people and what exactly is the purpose
the hearts of believers are to be filled with thanksgiving and gratitude...
-believers should be the most grateful people on earth...but are we?
-it should be reflected and expressed in our speech/talk/conversations...but is it?
: Turn away from greed...guard against greed...there are consequences to greed...instead of greedy be content...instead of greed, give generously
the next "don't" Paul mentions sexual immorality and impurity..
-(not a topic I necessarily want to speak on, but it came up in the rotation)
-sexual immorality and impurity..is unbecoming for followers of Christ
: Paul exhorts the Ephesians believers to "live a life full of love"
-we will explain and illustrate biblical love
-how it is to operate in the church
imitate God...be like Him...for we are His children

CCF Baptism Service
-see attached order of service
-notice there is a special Hope's Haven testimony after the offering prayer/before worship,
in contrast to last weeks negative list of stuff to get rid of in our lives
-this week...a list of positive stuff to embrace into our lives
: Paul lists further behaviors and practices that are unbecoming of a mature believer's life
-Paul says get rid of them...they gotta go
God is a Person...therefore God has emotions and feels emotional pain.
Paul's admonishment to the Ephesians: don't hurt God's feelings
another passage on the importance of words/speech/talk
-we should always be positive...never negative
-we should always be looking to "build others up"... never tear them down
stop stealing...start working...earn your keep...share with and give generously to others in need
Anger is not sin...but anger can often lead into sin
-believers are not to be easily or quickly angers...or to act out of anger
the simple message is "always tell the truth"...but I'm gonna make a 35 minute sermon out of it (grin)
There is a primary reason believers are to no longer live as unbelievers do...
-unbelievers live in darkness...believers live in the light
: Paul contrasts the condition of believers and unbelievers in the word
-this week we will focus on the state or condition of humanity apart from Christ - unbelievers
Learning how to view and deal with sin/evil biblically is a means and an evidence of Christian maturity
: Perseverance is yet another way and means by which we grow and mature spiritually
-believers are to stand strong, firm, persevere , not give up in the midst of pushback and the difficulties of life
continuing on our miniseries "Ways and Means by Which We Grow and Mature as Believers"
-we grow and mature as believers by learning to control our thoughts and speech
-obedience is an evidence of true salvation
-obedience is an evidence of Christian maturity
We will begin looking at the ways and means by which we as believers grow and mature spiritually
-this week...the primary way and means...the Word of God
-there is a direct correlation between the level with which believers are thoroughly familiar with the Word of God and the level of their spiritual maturity
Once a person "gets saved (comes to know Jesus)' the next step is to begin "growing in your knowing" of HIm...growing in your relationship with Him
individual believers are encouraged and admonished...actually commanded to "grow up" into spiritual maturity in Christ for the sake of the church
: Eph. 4:1-6 emphasises the importance of relationships n the church and how we are to treat one another
-it is a powerful deterrent to Satan's schemes and a powerful witness for Christ when we treat one another according to this admonishment
: a look at true biblical "heroes"
-what they're like,...what they do
-their character and their conduct
: to live a life worthy of our calling we are to "be gentle"
-it's somewhat different than our understanding of the english word gently
-this word means "power under control" :restrained"
: Living life worthy of our calling begins with our relationships in the church
-a teaching on the importance of the church
last week Paul begged the Ephesian believers to live up to their calling
-this week he begins detailing what that entails
-first thing is a proper understanding of who we are
: now that you know your position and who you are in Chris (Eph. 1-3)
-now that you know the high calling of God in Christ...live lives worthy of that position...of that person who you are...of that calling
Lofty words from Paul depicting the deep intimate relationship of love between God and His people as he continues to pray for the Ephesians...that they will experience the "fullness of Christ as a reality in their lives.
the power of God indwells all believers
-Paul prays for the believers at Ephesus that they would experience the fullness of God's power in their lives
Closing Application - corporate altar call...I will pray the prayer of Paul over those who respond as one group...not individually
: there are things we are admonished to remember and things we are admonished to forget
a brief devotional on...and celebrate communion together
-keeping it as short as possible for Christmas Eve Day
-the relational nature of prayer
-the biblical protocol of prayer
prayer is to flow out of relationship with and be addressed to our heavenly Father
In the fullness of time...at just the right time...God fulfilled His promise to man and to Satan that He had a plan to overcome Satan's victory in the garden.
the multicultural heart of God...we are one in Christ
-all races, ethnicities and nations matter to God
-all races ethnicities and nations must matter to us
dead in sin...alive in Christ
-a deep dive into this theme
-an extensive look at that monumental chapter of Scripture...Genesis 3
After all the lofty teaching in Ephsians chapter 1, Paul reminds them of the basics...you once were lost...now you are saved
-application: biblical principles for praying for the lost
: Paul prayed for the Ephesian believers that God would enlighten them to know the immeasurable, greatness of His power available to them
-we should pray the same for each other
Paul continues praying/interceding for the Ephesian believers/church
What is He asking now? that they would know and understand the hope to which they were called in Christ
Thanksgiving and prayer are the primary components/content of intercession
-last week thanksgiving
-this week prayer
Intercessory prayer and thanksgiving on behalf of one another is vitally important in the church
: bottom line...believers should allow God to direct our lives
-God directed rather than self directed lives
: a devotional on vertical focus vs horizontal focus...keeping our eyes on Jesus...not the things of earth
-what better time to celebrate communion together...which is all about Jesus
: Although God sometimes allows suffering in to our lives...there can be great joy in suffering when we realize God has a purpose in it...always intended for great good
a spiritual blessing to those who are in Christ is protection from the evil one
-knowing this enables, empowers and allows us to live boldly, confidently, fearlessly for the Lord
In Christ we are free from the consequences and condemnation of our sin.
HIs Blood cleanses us from all sin and condemnation
Through Jesus...in Christ...we have direct access to the throne of God...into the very Presence of God
-we will explain this spiritual blessing in Christ then present a challenge
The Challenge: what will we do with this information?
In Christ we are guaranteed an inheritance...we will focus on and try to explain this Biblical concept
In Christ believers are redeemed and forgiven
-we will try to explain what this means and from what exactly are we redeemed and forgiven?
Another of the spiritual blessings for those who come to Christ:
-He gives us the right to become sons and daughters of God
-adopted members of God's family
Eph. begins by stating how blessed believers are IN Christ, in the heavenly realms....with all spiritual blessings
-Sunday we will look at the first of a number of spiritual blessings we have in Christ
-hoping this will be encouraging
: believers are blessed "in Christ" with all spiritual blessings in the heavenly realms
-we will try 😯 to explain and make some kinda sense outta this verse
Grace!!! It's all about Grace!
-what is it?
-how does it operate in the life of a believer?
baptism service
-devotional on water baptism from Scripture
-at this moment we are planning on baptizing 8;
-possibly 10 or more
: our last sermon in Acts
-very fitting close to the series
-began with a message on mision
-ending with a message on mission
after all he had been through...arrest, imprisonment, court hearings, trials, storm, shipwreck, snakebite...the whole ordeal...
-Paul is finally in Italy/Rome
-he is encouraged and strengthened when he gathers with other believers
Scriptures details the need of self control to effectively and successfully live the Christian life
-Paul is in Rome
-Point to Ponder (again)...God is incredibly faithful
-we will explain the reason God continues to emphasize this truth to us in the conclusion/application
Theme: Paul survived persecution by the Jews and Gentiles alike, imprisonment by the Romans, a storm at sea, shipwreck...and now this...a poisonous snake bite...
-more bad luck...or is it???
-God has a way of using...possibly even orchestrating...the adversity in our lives...
Theme: the vessel carrying Paul to Rome is going to wreck
-there's a promise from God there will be no loss of life
-however the promise is conditioned on all the men staying with the boat
-some try to abandon ship...Paul has to call them on it
the voyage from Caesarea to Rome is growing more difficult...and about to become a nightmare
-an angel appears to Paul and tells him twice to not be afraid
-what's in it for us
-we can also live a fear free life in Christ despite the circumstances/situations we may face
Paul's trial is finally over...he's off to Rome
-however, the trip is not the voyage they had hoped for...
-lessons from this first leg of Paul's journey to Rome
: Paul is now well into his defense...and giving his testimony of meeting Jesus to King Agrippa and the crowd of dignitaries and leaders gathered ...
-it is suddenly interrupted by Festus
-Paul presses for King Agrippa's conversion :-)
-there is a theological truth that we must become fully persuaded is true
Theme: In making his defense Paul is trying to convince the audience that Jesus is the promised Messiah/Savior whom Scripture prophesied...
-We will try also to convince ourselves even more throughas study of the Scriptures
As Paul continues to textify his defense (share his testimony) he consciously of unconsciously state his God given purpose in life
-we will see and show that we also have a God given purpose in life
Theme: Paul faced quite an intimidating scenario when he was brought in again for trial...pomp and circumstance...King Grippa, Bernice, many high ranking officials and leading citizens of the city
-one of Satan's most common and effective strategies is "fear and intimidation"
But was Paul intimidated???
-God has some great words for His people who may have to face intimidating circumstances or situations
Theme: We ended last week with Paul preparing to go to Rome
-then...further delayed arrive on the scene
-will he ever get there
What can we do to make sure we correctly handle the delays, obstacles, opposition that comes against us as we try to live for the Lord?
Theme: How could the Jews be still harboring such anger, hatred, malice etc. for Paul that they are yet trying to ambush and kill him
-because sin dies hard
-because sin left unchecked becomes entrenched, gains control and eventually destroys
there is a biblical three step process for breaking teh power and control of sin in our lives before it destroys us
Theme: The trial of Paul ended abruptly with no solution or verdict
-Paul faces two years incarceration before his next hearing
-God grants him great favor in the midst of his troubles
-God promises the same to us

-the primary application will come at the end and be a principle we can indirectly draw from the text
-like last week God is addressing aspects of Christian living that He takes very seriously but we do not :-)
