What if your brilliance isn't something you become — but something you reveal?

Diana Esther is a Transformational Teacher, International Speaker, and creator of the Diamond Within Method — a framework that uses the Diamond Clarity Grading system as a model for human transformation. Just as a diamond's inclusions obscure its natural clarity, our limiting beliefs, emotional patterns, and stored experiences keep us disconnected from who we truly are. Diana's work bridges emotional healing, embodiment, and universal spiritual principles — guiding people from survival and disconnection back to themselves.

Her own path has been shaped by intensity and resilience, including a miraculous recovery from lymphatic cancer and profound personal challenges across continents. She doesn't teach from theory. She guides from lived wisdom.

In this episode, Diana takes us through the beautiful metaphor at the heart of her work: just as a rough diamond contains extraordinary brilliance before anyone cuts or polishes it, so do we. The gifts, the purpose, the light — it's all already there. The journey is learning to see it, trust it, and let it shine.

We talk about why we are spirits on a human journey (not the other way around), how feelings are our compass rather than our mind, why gratitude is a portal rather than just an emotion, and how love — specifically self-love — is the single most powerful thing we can offer the world.

Diana also shares the story of how a deleted book manuscript in the middle of the night became a lesson from the universe, and why a Lebanese chef confirmed everything she believes about love as an ingredient.

"As kids we like to play hide and seek — and that's what life is all about. Our brilliance is hidden within us and it takes our life journey to find it."

Most of us are holding on — in our bodies, our identities, our relationships — without even knowing it. This conversation is about learning to let go.

"We're really good at holding on — to our material things, our identity, our grudges, our correctness. But letting go, that muscle is a little weak in us." — Leslie Howard

Leslie is a yoga teacher, pelvic health specialist, death doula, and author of Pelvic Liberation and the forthcoming Between Breath and Death. In this wide-ranging conversation, she shares how chronic pain led her to specialize in pelvic floor health, why most people (including athletes and yoga practitioners) are too tight — not too loose — and how the same principle of letting go that heals the pelvic floor also applies to identity, suffering, and ultimately, death.

We explore:

• Why 75% of the people Leslie works with have a hypertonic (too tight) pelvic floor — and what causes it

• The connection between trauma, breathing patterns, and chronic pelvic tension

• How savasana can be a portal to genuine non-dual experience

• The relationship between over-identification with the self and suffering

• Gratitude as a daily practice — and why the details matter

• What sitting with dying people has taught Leslie about how to live

In this conversation, Akiva shares what Torah actually teaches about animal welfare, environmental stewardship, and our responsibility to all living beings. We explore the Kabbalistic understanding of food and spiritual elevation, why so many rabbis who are vegetarian or vegan keep it to themselves, and what conscious eating has to do with the soul.

We also talk about the relationship between inner work and outer activism, the power of silence — in the desert, at the Shabbat table, and in meditation — and the profound Jewish teaching that the sin of Adam and Eve wasn't what they ate, but how they ate.

Whether you're Jewish or not, vegan or not, this episode will change the way you think about what you put on your plate — and why it matters.

• What Torah says about animal welfare and the environment

• The Kabbalistic teaching that we are what we eat — spiritually

• Why more rabbis don't speak openly about veganism

• Eating as meditation and sacred practice

• Silence, the desert, and inner listening

• Tikkun olam: how personal choices heal the world

• Vegan matchmaking in the Jewish community

What happens to the mind when the brain begins to fail? After a traumatic brain injury changed her own pace of life, Kirana Stover found herself bedside with her dying mother—an experience that transformed from a season of grief into a surreal, poetic masterclass in presence.

In this episode, Kirana Stover, a long-time Integral Yoga teacher and center head in Barcelona discusses her moving new book documenting her mother’s final months. Kirana shares the "vignettes" of their time together, including the extraordinary moment her mother began communicating solely in rhyme, and how the "slower pace" forced by her own recovery allowed her to stay fully present for her mother’s transition.

Topics include:

  • The Yoga of Dying: How spiritual practice prepares us for the "portal" of death.

  • Mind vs. Brain: Insights from hospice care on how consciousness functions when the physical body declines.

  • Art as Presence: Using painting and sketching to anchor oneself in heavy emotional realities.

-The Role Reversal: Transitioning from daughter to "reassurance" and caregiver.

-Ancestral Connection: How losing a parent can deepen our sense of those who came before us.

--

Originally from Richmond, Virginia, Kirana was first introduced to Integral Yoga in 1982. In 1993 she became a certified Hatha yoga teacher and since 2001 has been the director of the Integral Yoga Center in Barcelona, Spain.

In 2023 she returned to Virginia to be with her mom who was in hospice. Mom’s in There is imbued with the essence of the Integral Yoga teaching “Truth is One, Paths are Many”. Her time with her mother was punctuated by a trip to Yogaville; she also spent a week there after her mother “transitioned”. This helped her integrate and understand both her time with her mom, and her own spiritual practice at a deeper level.

In this powerful conversation, Sigmar Berg, founder of Lovetuner, shares his mission to reconnect hearts through the 528 Hz "love frequency" — known as the miracle tone for DNA repair and healing. We explore moving from mind to heart, achieving true presence, overcoming societal disconnection, the science and spirituality of vibration, and how simple breathwork with the Lovetuner can shortcut meditation and raise your frequency.

Sigmar discusses his journey from architecture and fashion design to creating this wearable mindfulness tool after a profound 528 Hz sound experience. We cover real-world impacts (like eliminating bullying in schools), the law of resonance, authenticity, dealing with negative vibes, focusing on the next generation, and why spiritual revolution — not politics — is the path forward.

Key topics:

Heart coherence vs. intellectual living

528 Hz as the original tuning frequency (pre-440 Hz shift)

Measuring vibration's ripple effect on the world

Building community through tuning together

Personal motivation and handling criticism on a love-centered path

In this profound podcast episode, Krishna Das, the renowned kirtan singer, sits down with Integral Yoga director Avi Gordon to share insights on navigating the subjective nature of reality, the power of spiritual practice, and the art of letting go of ego. From exploring the influence of his Guru to embracing life’s challenges with presence, Krishna Das offers wisdom on cultivating inner peace and compassion. He reflects on the interconnectedness of all beings, the importance of daily practice, and how suffering can be a motivator for transformation. This conversation is a heartfelt invitation to live with gratitude and awareness, perfect for anyone seeking deeper meaning and connection.

"Practice is the most important thing. It's dropping an anchor into the ocean. And then when the winds blow you this way and that way, you're not blown around too much.”

~ Krishna Das

--

Few figures in modern spirituality, particularly in the West, have impacted the hearts and minds of contemporary seekers as Krishna Das has. A devotee of the North Indian Saint, Neem Karoli Baba (Maharajji), Krishna Das has played an enormous role in popularizing the traditional practice of kirtan in the West, taking the call-and-response chanting out of yoga centers and temples and into concert halls, becoming a worldwide icon and the best-selling western chant artist of all time. In a career spanning more than two decades, KD has released 16 acclaimed full-length albums, his music serving as an easily approachable gateway to the devotional traditions of the East. Along the way, he has evolved into an accessible if somewhat reluctant teacher, and a spiritual friend to many. He travels the world sharing his kirtan practice and stories of his life on the Path, of Maharajiji, and advocates for bringing regular spiritual practice into our lives through retreats and workshops. During COVID times he has chanted online every week for the worldwide satsang.

In this podcast episode, Karen Fabian, a seasoned yoga teacher with over 22 years of experience, discusses imposter syndrome and its impact on yoga instructors. She describes imposter syndrome as a feeling of inadequacy or self-doubt, where teachers feel they are "faking it" or not qualified enough, despite their training and expertise. This often stems from the pressure of public speaking, the deep responsibility of guiding students through a practice rooted in ancient traditions, and personal limiting beliefs tied to past experiences.

Karen emphasizes the importance of detachment from external validation to build confidence, advocating for a consistent teaching approach, such as using a signature sequence, to reduce anxiety and foster authenticity. She shares practical strategies, like grounding exercises and pre-class breathing, to manage nerves and encourages teachers to reflect on their teaching experiences to find balance and authenticity.

In this episode, Erin shares her motivation for her diverse endeavors, emphasizing balance as both her personal practice and a guiding principle for supporting others. She discusses her journey from a driven, goal-oriented mindset as a collegiate athlete to embracing a practice of presence and acceptance, where balance is a dynamic state of flow rather than a fixed goal.

Erin highlights practical strategies for cultivating balance, such as morning quiet time, writing down ideas to clear mental clutter, and integrating short, accessible yoga practices into daily life. She also addresses common barriers to practice, like the misconception that yoga requires long sessions or formal classes, and advocates for small, intentional moments of movement and rest. When discussing her work with athletes, Erin emphasizes the critical need for rest and recovery to counter the intense "push-through" mentality, noting how restorative practices enhance performance and prevent burnout. The conversation touches on the importance of openness, acceptance, and honesty in fostering balance.

Erin Taylor is an international recovery expert, writer, and yoga teacher. For 20 years she has coached professional athletes, everyday runners, pre- and post-natal women, office workers, and anyone looking to integrate practices that improve well-being and longevity. She is the creator of Balance Practice, a platform that offers practical tools to inspire and support mental and physical balance in all aspects of life. From navigating the awkward stages of yoga to exploring profound concepts like rigorous honesty, the role of pain as a motivator, and even touching on his fascination with UAPs (unidentified aerial phenomena), Jeremy’s story is one of resilience, curiosity, and awakening. Join us for a rich conversation about yoga, recovery, and the human quest for truth, culminating in a beautiful quote from Nisargadatta Maharaj that captures the essence of the spiritual path:

"Wisdom is knowing I am nothing, love is knowing I am everything; and between the two my life moves."

--

Jeremy York is a student of "the Holy Science of Yoga" who lives, works, and practices at the Satchidananda Ashram-Yogaville. As a spiritual seeker, he has been blessed to have found the dynamic and demanding practice of Ashtanga Yoga, as well as the subtle and sublime practice of Kriya Yoga. As the Hatha Yoga Pradipika tells us, “No success in Raja Yoga without Hatha Yoga, and no success in Hatha Yoga without Raja Yoga. One should therefore practice both of these well, till complete success is gained.”

Through her coaching, she helps people cultivate awareness, implement gradual habit changes, and make sustainable lifestyle shifts aligned with their unique constitutions. Avi speaks with past broadcast journalist and present yogi Jeff Ananda Kamen, who shares some engrossing stories about his adventures and his search for meaning, purpose and understanding.

Jeff Kamen first met Swami Satchidananda in 1973 when he made the first public television documentary on yoga in America. It was a primetime special on New York City’s premiere public television station WNET 13 . Jeff was 29 years old and already a veteran of news rrporting in Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and London, and a confessed, smart ass. He did his best to conceal that from the Swami during the interview, but some perceptive viewers say he barely got by not the Swami the interviewer Jeff Kamen. If that documentary film was one of dozens, Jeff had the opportunity to make over a career that has spanned more than a half a century. Besides the founder of Yogaville, Jeff has also been blessed by 101 contact with the Dalai Lama and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., as well as other major figures in spiritual life. Jeff has lived in Yogaville, for almost a decade. He and I have not always agreed, except on the important stuff of life and love, kindness, and empathy.

Kirtan artist Seán Johnson, of Seán Johson and the Wild Lotus Band, discusses:

  • the importance of preparation for presenting and his personal singing practice as a means of connecting to the universe
  • the balance between planning and staying present in the moment - using templates as a framework for improvisation and creativity
  • experiences of doubt, grief, and loss, and finding solace in connecting with his brother's spirit through music
  • challenges, self-care, and finding value in difficult experiences, as well as the universal nature and benefits of singing and chanting in many spiritual traditions

Seán's Bio:

Seán’s intimate, intuitive connection to the spirituality of music, singing, and songwriting goes back to his childhood. He was a member of the New Orleans Symphony Children’s Chorus and active in musical theatre. After a traumatic performance experience as an adolescent, he quit singing in public for many years and found his voice again in his early twenties by connecting deeply to his Irish ancestors through singing traditional sean-nos songs in a year long Irish Studies program at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, guided by ethnomusicologist Seán Williams. Williams shared songs that she had learned directly from Joe Heaney, considered to be one of Ireland’s greatest singers. In an intensive program focused on heart-centered spiritual traditions guided by Doranne Crable, Seán was introduced to the Sufi practice of dhikr, a powerful chanting practice that deepened his connection with the voice as a vehicle for spiritual transformation.

After focusing on Comparative Spiritual Traditions in his undergraduate studies, Seán went on to complete a Master’s degree in Creation Spirituality from The Naropa Institute-Oakland (1999) with focus on teaching chant as spiritual practice, apprenticing there with south Indian musician and teacher Russill Paul, author of The Yoga Of Sound. In 1999, Seán moved home to New Orleans, sharing weekly chanting sessions, and founding several spiritual music ensembles, introducing many people to the practice of chanting. In 2005 he founded The Wild Lotus Band as a post-Hurricane Katrina philanthropic music project, raising funds across the country for relief from the devastation of the storm through benefit concerts. Chanting mantras has been a deep and integral part of his personal spiritual practice, music, and teaching for the last 25+ years. Singing Irish music and connecting to his Irish ancestors remains a pillar of his life and spirituality. He guides online gatherings and retreats in Ireland with Mary Meighan, founder of Celtic Journeys each year.

Michael begins by telling his story of a near death experience changing the trajectory of his life. Is an intense crisis necessary for an awakening, or is it possible to redirect your life by listening to your intuition and learning from the experiences of others? Avi and Michael discuss this as many other topics including letting go of what we don’t control, cultivating a love for silence, how to be more gentle with ourselves, and our relationship with unwanted experiences.

Before helping humans build resilience to prevent bad moments from turning into a bad day, as the Chief Shift Officer at Peloton Executive Coaching, Michael O’Brien was a healthcare executive.

At a corporate offsite meeting in New Mexico, Michael experienced his last bad day when a speeding SUV hit him head-on during a morning bike ride. While in the hospital, he began his Pause Breathe Reflect mindfulness practice which is now a global movement that promotes awareness, focus, equanimity, and belonging.

Mandee and Avi discuss the difference between "natural" and "normal." The conversation flows naturally from discussion about honesty, freedom, and relaxation, to the importance of not taking ourselves to seriously. What's the difference between knowing something in the mind and feeling it in my being? What is the relationship I want to have with my mind? These questions answered and so much more.

Bio:

Mandee Labelle has been sharing her love of yoga and meditation through teaching, writing, and radio since 2001.

The search for truth, happiness, and well-being lit like a fire in Mandee during a 6-month motorcycle tour of India in her early 20s. Upon returning to Canada, she dove into the study of Psychology at McGill University. She enjoyed her studies, but upon graduation, was left with only more questions than any real answers. Continuing the search, she became intrigued by meditation and explored Zen through the teachings of Albert Low, and it was when she discovered Yoga that this quest began to burn even brighter. Yoga captured her interest with an enthusiasm which has not yet, to this day, subsided.

She then met yoga master teacher, David Goulet, founder of the Chakra Yoga Center, and through his teacher training program her world opened up to the richness of the yogic tradition that went well beyond the physical practice. David’s teacher was Dr. Swami Gitananda, who taught with a powerful blend of modern science and medicine, and ancient wisdom of the chakras drawn from the Sat-Chakra-Nirupana (circa 1500AD). David’s Chakra Yoga Teacher Training program was life changing and consisted of a comprehensive study of energy, the body, the mind, and the universe through nine different forms* of Yoga. She graduated from the program in 2001 and has been teaching yoga and meditation ever since.

Teaching came naturally and there was no shortage of opportunities in schools, community centers, privately, to government agencies, the military, school teachers, nurses, even Ninjas! Through her work, she was able to witness right before her eyes exactly what she had been looking for--something that was having a real impact on the lives and well-being of people. And furthermore, through this profession came the opportunity to keep studying, learning, and practicing as a complete lifestyle.

After 10 years, the urge to search arose again, and she found herself flipping through a catalogue of workshops being offered at Omega in Rhinebeck NY. Not knowing what she was looking for, she turned the page and there was an image of a man in the catalogue that she had never seen before, but the moment she saw him, something happened. It was like her body became filled with light and a sense of trust that she had never known. As if in a dream, she signed up to attend his retreat called Eternity Now.

Driven by the unknown, she packed and made the long journey by car from Nova Scotia to NY and from the moment she met Francis Lucille, her life changed. It was as if she had found answers to questions she didn’t know she had and there was a lightness of being that was revealed. It was as if all the spiritual traditions started to glow with understanding. Yoga itself was illuminated in it’s deeper potential, and what followed for the next 10 years has been a process of clarification and embodiment of understanding that ever-continues.

Eat well. Move more. Stress less. Love more.

I grew up hearing about Dean Ornish, and heard more about him when I came to Satchidananda Ashram because he was a successful healthcare leader who’d been a student of Swami Satchidananda. He's said that “all of [his] work is based on what [he] learned from [Swami Satchidananda]” - work that seeks to show it's possible to reverse illnesses like heart disease with simple tools like healthy diet, exercise, meditation, and healthy personal relationships. With US healthcare projected to reach about 20% of GDP by 2028 - $1 out of every $5 of goods and services produced - in a complex system that places a heavy emphasis on drugs and surgery, I find it exciting that Dean Ornish offers treatments that aim to put patients in charge of their own healthcare through natural means and with comparatively less cost.

Biography:

Dean Ornish, M.D., directed clinical research proving, for the first time, the heart disease and early-stage prostate cancer may be stopped or even reversed by comprehensive lifestyle changes, without drugs or surgery. He is founder and president of the non-profit Preventive Medicine Research Institute and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. His newest research was the first to show that changing your lifestyle changes your genes - "turning on" disease-preventing genes, and "turning off" genes that promote breast cancer, heart disease, and other illness, and increasing telomeres - the ends of your chromosomes that control how long you live. Our genes are not our fate.

He is Medical Editor of The Huffington Post, chairs the Google Health Advisory Council, and authored six best-selling books including his most recent, "Undo It!" He was recognized as one of the "Time 100" in integrative medicine, and chosen by LIFE magazine as "one of the fifty most influential members of his generation".

Trace Sahaja and Avi discuss the evolution of Yoga, the evolution of the personal self. How does “showing up” and “letting it be” lead to growth? How can I accept the dis-ease and pain in my life in order to find freedom and liberation on the other side? How can I view myself and my life through the lens of curiosity?

Trace Sahaja Bonner is the Founder and Director of Holy Cow Yoga Center. She began her practice more than 27 years ago, and is a certified Advanced Integral Yoga teacher. Having studied in India and the US, Trace Sahaja continues to draw from a variety of great teachers in the west.

She feels that Yoga is about having fun with the journey, so she enjoys bringing her lighthearted teaching style to all that she does.

Moksha Sommer of the band HuDost sits down with Avi Gordon and discusses musical performance as a practice, the beauty of collaboration, and learning to laugh when things go wrong.

HuDost functions as a duo or as a band. HuDost’s core musicians are Moksha Sommer and Jemal Wade-Hines.

They have been fortunate to have incredible performance opportunities throughout the years and have toured internationally since 2006 collaborating with wild, astonishing, and respected artists, musicians, dancers, and activists.

Quotes from the interview:

  • I think every one of us can be in service, but how that service takes shape is really different, and different people have different strengths with how they can be of service.

  • There doesn’t have to be loneliness in any of this - real service is about coming together with other people - that’s one of the biggest things I’ve learned through music, too.

  • I think any kind of practice whether we’re looking at spiritual practice, musical practice, or yogic physical practice what it really comes down to is doing it so much that you end up with muscle memory for it.

  • Now it’s like, if mistakes are made, just laugh. It’s ok. Move on.

Vyasa Smith and Avi Gordon discuss gratitude, the advantages of getting away from the "hustle and bustle", and how enlightened beings treat others.

Vyasa is an Integral Yoga Teacher and resident of Satchidananda Ashram Yogaville. He currently serves as the Yogaville Academy Administrator. He enjoys traveling, hiking, and studying Jnana yoga.

Quotes from the Interview:

  • I imagine that’s what [Nelson] Mandela was thinking: Ok, I’m in prison but I’ve got my mind, I’ve got God, and so you can’t take that. I can understand things more in solitude.

  • There’s a point in your life where you realize nobody is as interested in your spiritual growth as you will be.

  • It’s just nuts how connected you can get when you’re away from the hustle and bustle - the things that open up for you are just amazing.

Swami Asokananda and Avi Gordon discuss courage versus conformity, discipline, and moving towards loving unconditionally.

A monk since 1975, Swami Asokananda is one of Integral Yoga’s® foremost teachers—known for his warmth, intelligence, and good humor. His teaching comes out of his own practice and experience while absorbing the wisdom of his Guru, Sri Swami Satchidananda. While he enjoys sharing the practical wisdom of yogic philosophy (especially the great Indian scripture, the Bhagavad Gita), he also loves his practice of Hatha Yoga.

He presently serves as president of the IY Institute in New York City. Before this position, he served as the President of Satchidananda Ashram–Yogaville and Integral Yoga International.

Quotes from the Conversation:

  • I would say [it's] even fun just to be who you are. It’s a lot of stress to be something you’re not or try to project an image that’s not quite the reality for you. It’s more relaxing to..”yep, this is who I am. And I’m ok with that.

  • I try to be like a good in a way traditional Integral Yogi, but as Asokananda expresses that which may not conform to the norm, and I’d rather risk that than be inauthentic to myself.

  • I’m more influential by letting go of control.

  • It’s your job to relax. It’s your job to love. End of story. Do your job.

Hamsa Cho and Avi Gordon discuss yoga in leadership and decision-making, and how to grow without "beating ourselves up".

Hamsa currently serves as the executive director for Integral Yoga Institute New York. She has 20 years of business and consulting experience. Bringing yoga to all adds excitement to her life.

  • The path to where you’re going is only straight in hindsight.

  • We’re all imperfectly perfect, so we’re just in this game - we’re in this play, and all going through it as easefully and peacefully as possible.

  • That’s how yoga works for me, is having that ahimsa toward myself of not beating myself up, but it also gives me the space to recognize I’m always learning and that I can always get better while still recognizing that I’m doing my best right now.

  • I think part of being a leader is being able to see a larger picture and to get everyone moving toward that larger picture.

  • our yoga practices…I often describe that to my students as like brushing your teeth. We brush our teeth every morning and night, why would we not move our body and clear our our energy throughout the day?

  • It helps me to remember that we’re all gonna graduate – we’re all gonna get there in our own time – that we can’t ever fall out of it, [out of] love or God.

  • That’s a sweeter feeling…that even when you’re having an argument with your beloved and you’re losing you can feel like ‘Oh, this is God too’.

  • It’s not your birthday every day. at some moments you want others to rise and shine.

Zac Parker talks about finding a life that reflects one's values, the "selfish selflessness" of serving others, and learning to balance discipline and lightheartedness.

Zac has been teaching Yoga since 2014. He is certified as an Advanced Hatha Yoga and Restorative Yoga instructor. Zac's teaching is a natural extension of his own practice. He approaches his teaching with a balanced blend of light-hearted ease and focused awareness on the subtle sensations of Yoga practice. Zac currently serves as the Online Programs Coordinator at Satchidananda Ashram-Yogaville, as well as regularly teaching a variety of Yoga classes. He holds a master’s degree in Anthropology.

Quotes from the Interview:

  • "...when you’re trying to produce good results in the world, to be clear-minded, to be balanced, to feel content within yourself is the place from which you can be most effective. Period. There’s just no question.”

  • “It feels good to serve others. That’s an enjoyable activity. Not based on something you “should” do or even you could say "it’s right to do". Simply because of the reward-feedback loop that’s created - that it feels good to serve others. It sounds paradoxical, it is paradoxical, but it can add to the contentment which you already have.”

Laney Sullivan and Jameson Price talk with Avi Gordon about activism and the healing that comes from seeing our interconnectedness.

"Courage" and "Seasons", two songs from the album Courage, appear at the end of interview.

Høly River is founded by multi-instrumentalists Laney Sullivan and Jameson Price..This musical phenomenon has come to be known as Earth folk, a type of music inspired thematically by the natural environment. From harmonium engulfed melodies to mouth-harp stomp grass, Høly River taps into an embodied and innate celebration of internal and external worlds, attempting to bring them closer together with each beat. The music of Høly River carries the message of humanity’s need for reconnection with itself and the earth.

Quotes from the Interview:

  • When we say reconnection with ourselves, or with the natural world, I think it’s really just witnessing ourselves in place of the natural world and as a part of it, interconnected, and drawing lessons from the natural world to be able to reflect back on how we can be better versions of ourselves, to ourselves, and to the world around us.

  • Every moment is an opportunity for growth and to decide ‘what is the right thing to do?’, regardless of its outcome.

  • To avoid burnout...this is my biggest lesson: I only do the things I love within activism.

  • We can’t do this alone. We need each other to support. When we’re low we need a little support. And we’re there to offer support when someone else’s a little low. And that keeps us going until we can reach that final end stage of yoga.

*. If there’s something that you’re feeling called to do, if there’s something that’s tugging at your heart that doesn’t go away and you keep talking yourself out of it, I invite you to talk yourself back into it.

  • What you’re consuming through your eyes, and your ears, and your mouth is creating your human experience, and when you take care of those things your thoughts become better serving.

  • Beliefs are just thoughts on repeat.

If you don’t fill your own cup, you won’t have anything to pour from.” QUOTE

Daniel Levin shares a recent shift in perspective that’s left him seeking to be a “mailman” delivering love to everyone he encounters, and discusses nothing less than love itself in this great conversation with Avi Gordon.

Daniel walked away from an opportunity to run a billion dollar business, to hitchhike around the world to find happiness and inner peace. He studied in a seminary five years and left one day before becoming a Rabbi and he has lived as a Monk in a monastery for 10 years. As Director of Business Development, he grew Hay House from $3,000,000 a year in sales to $100,000,000 a year in revenue.

Daniel is rare blend of businessman and mystic. He is the author of The Mosaic, a life changing fable that invites people to listen to those others do not hear and to see the situations in their life differently.

Quotes from the Interview:

  • Someone decided to give you a gift, not because you deserved it. It’s just love. That’s what love does: it loves for no reason. And for every reason.

  • The healing to our problems is in the spaces between the words that we tell our problems in. It’s just that easy.

  • If God were to pick a form to look like he would look like Satchidananda.

  • Each piece (p-i-e-c-e) needs to have it’s own peace (p-e-a-c-e). And when you bring the peace of each piece together you create a resounding peace. It’s called the mosaic.

Rukmini Ando talks with Avi Gordon about how she got started with yoga, meditation and creating art, and how teaching gets her “out of the way”.

Rukmini Ando has been practicing Yoga since 2004 and has been teaching since 2010. She is certified in Advanced Integral Yoga, Adaptive Yoga, Stress Management, Yoga of Recovery, and Raja Yoga. She currently serves as program development director, graphic designer, and Yoga teacher, and is a member of the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee as well as the Leadership Team at Satchidananda Ashram–Yogaville. She holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering and is also a fine artist, specializing in oil-on-canvas.

Quotes from the Interview:

  • I think it’s much easier when we’re focusing on others because then you kind of have to step up in order to raise others’ vibration. If I’m just by myself I perhaps don’t feel that need as much as if I am in relation to other people, so I think being able to connect with others is really important to find that motivation.

  • It’s funny because I am such a social person but when it comes to my art, nothing else exists. It’s just that piece, the colors, the textures, the arrangement of things...and the creation just happens and I don’t know how it happens but it happens and I completely lose sense of time.

  • That to me is the real karma yoga when we are completely out of the picture and we 100 percent want to serve others.

  • [Teaching] is definitely something I want to continue to do until the last day of my life.

Bhagavan Metro talks about finding a spiritual teacher, the importance of identifying that we aren't the body and the mind, and finding harmony with our surroundings.

Quotes from the Interview:

  • If we think that we are the body and the mind, life really is hell, because the body is constantly in danger and the mind is constantly having a problem. So we need first, if we’re going to experience that life is for fun, to solve the problem of the mind.”

  • I’d just like to encourage everyone to take up whatever spiritual practice appeals to them, whatever that is, and make a little application each day toward that. It’s like putting money in the bank. If you put a couple of pennies in the bank every day, by the end of ten years you have some money.”

  • Be present with the mind. Watch it, understand it. Because once the mind is deeply understood, it’s a very small step over to realization.”

  • And not only do you take care of yourself, but do the best to take care of things around you in a gentle, serviceful way. You know, when the car needs gas in it, put gas in it. When the oil needs changing, change the oil...everything in your life...take care of what’s around you...taking care of the things around you brings harmony into life. It brings a deep harmony into your existence.”

Reverend Bhagavan is a certified Integral Yoga instructor and was ordained as a minister of Integral Yoga in 1980. He has served as a member of the Integral Yoga Ministry Board for over 15 years. He embraces and teaches all aspects of Integral Yoga with emphasis on married and community life.

Mado Hesselink talks to Avi Gordon about yoga, envy, and the value of not knowing, among other things.

Quotes From the Interview:

  • I think authenticity is essential, that we have to be real - even just with ourselves - in order to grow, because I think one of the biggest barriers to growth is denial.

  • [In] all yogic practices I find that the formal practice is really a container to help us bring those attitudes and behaviors into daily life.

  • I definitely have this feeling of 'the more I can appreciate this moment, the less I am going to be upset when it gets taken away.

  • The more that I practice, the more I feel I don't know, and the more I'm willing to admit that I don't know, but I also want to stay away from feeling superior about it - this is why it's so convoluted, right? You can be superior about being humble!

Mado helps yoga teachers integrate their heart-centered mission with practical business & teaching strategies so that they can make both a living and an impact.

Mitra Somerville and Avi Gordon discuss how we find peace, and the practical advantages that come from it.

Quotes From the Interview:

  • Fortunately in yoga there's a lot of different techniques, and the more techniques that we know about and the more that we practice, then we can choose the right technique at the right moment.

  • I like to get peace and listen to my inner guidance and just follow that, and let that deeper spirit work through me and let the divine plan work through me rather than my own plan."

  • What actually happens is when we're serviceful and giving, the mind gets really quiet, and that is the reason we start to feel really good. It's because the mind just relaxes - there's no conflict or second guessing like 'was that a good bargain?'

  • If we're connected to our peace, we can keep everything in perspective, and then if we don't get what we really wanted, "ok, well, maybe something better's coming but it doesn't really matter because I feel content.

Mitra Somerville has lived and trained in Integral Yoga communities in Australia, New York and Yogaville, Virginia. He is a trainer for the Integral Yoga Basic Teacher Training and a Meditation, Raja Yoga (Yoga psychology), Stress Management and Hatha Yoga Teacher. While in Hawaii he opened a yoga studio and he self-published a book, Treasure Within You, and a guided CD, Treasure Within You: Guided Meditations and Exercises. He currently resides in Yogaville, VA.

Hersha Chellaram talks about finding meaning in life, how to know the right outlet for our energy, and the importance of accepting our capacity.

Quotes from the Interview:

  • "[The pursuit of excellence] requires some balancing: I think it's really important to still pursue excellence, but then be very real with yourself as to what your capability and capacity is."
  • "Being able to witness your mind while you go through social media's very very important, to see what emotions come up for you, and if it really affects you that much where you've lost your balance, sometimes it's good to disconnect."
  • "Kids can't sometimes recognize the emotions that they're feeling and the actions that come out as a result, but they naturally look for soothing behaviors and activities."
  • "You don't have to have a purpose - you don't need to say "Oh, what is my purpose in life? What am I supposed to be doing?" - no, you just need a general idea of 'Where would I like to head? What would I like to move forward with?', and take one step in that direction."

Oyámie Kali Ma'at and Avi Gordon discuss the practice of silence, the relationship between money and service, how to start practicing meditation, and the love that comes from facing pain.

Quotes from the Interview:

  • "I started my journey because I read someone's story, and their story inspired me to take action. So I know that there's someone out there who's waiting to hear my story, so that they too can get motivated and be inspired to take a journey and take charge of their own life."

  • "I think meditation is a practice that every single human being does on a daily basis but we don't realize that we're doing it."

  • "For me it boils down to, if you to come across such an individual [who doesn't have the money to pay a lot for services or classes] how are you going to take your gift, that has been bestowed upon you by the Divine, to be of service to others, whether they have the money or not."

  • "Part of the resistance [in peoples' minds] is not wanting to feel the pain but if you allow yourself to feel the pain, in the process of allowing there's something that happens to that pain - that pain gets turned into love, and it's not the type of love that's like "I love my partner" or "i love my parents" or "I love my community", it's like this deep gut feeling that reverberates through your whole entire system and is just like... there's nothing in this world that can take that away, and that's the truth."

Oyámie is a Body-Oriented Psychospiritual Healing Coach. She is the founder and creator of Somatic Activation Release Response (SARR), Embodied Wisdom of Sensuality, and Body Liberation Dance.

Since 2014, Oyámie has dedicated herself to practicing Yoga, meditation, breath-work, attuning, and looking to nature for guidance. Through developing mind-body awareness, studying body-oriented psychotherapy and somatic healing, she developed a body base modality that is accessible to all.

Born and raised in West Africa, Oyámie Kali Ma’at spent most of her childhood in community gatherings of musicians, drummers, and dancers. Listening and dancing to music became a foundation for her life.

Since 2016, she has studied and trained in Trauma Sensitive Yoga, Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE), Somatic Stress Release, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Brain Science, Polyvagal Theory in Therapy, Therapeutic Yoga, and Somatic Experiencing and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. Swami Ramananda of the Integral Yoga Institute of San Francisco talks with Avi Gordon about adapting to conditions, how compassion follows naturally from meditation, and about what really makes us happy.

Quotes from the interview:

*I think compassion comes naturally when we touch deep enough inside ourselves.

*In a way you could say our identity is a structure in the subconscious mind, and ultimately that structure is built on a faulty foundation, and the foundation has to be replaced, and sometimes the building has to be torn down.

*I think any time you start something new there has to be that willingness to be a little uncomfortable, and be with it, in order to get anywhere."

*This effort to grow, and change, and improve, and to be of service...ultimately it's what gives us joy. This is what makes us really happy.

Swami Ramananda is the President of the Integral Yoga Institute in San Francisco and a greatly respected senior teacher in the Integral Yoga tradition, who has been practicing Yoga for over 35 years. Ramananda offers practical methods of integrating the timeless teachings and practices of yoga into daily life, and transforming the painful aspects of human experience into steps toward realizing one’s full potential.

He leads beginner, intermediate and advanced level yoga teacher training programs in San Francisco, and offers a variety of programs in many locations in the U. S., Europe and South America. Ramananda trains Yoga teachers to bring Yoga into corporate, hospital and medical settings and has taught mind/body wellness programs in many locations. He is a founding board member of the Yoga Alliance, a national registry that supports and promotes yoga teachers as professionals. His warmth, wisdom and sense of humor have endeared him to many.

Tom Callahan and Avi Gordon discuss what jobs "help people", how we relate to our egos in daily life, and gratitude.

Quotes from the interview:

  • In a more lighthearted way I would say [Yogaville] was started by some hippies following their guru, who was the swami that gave the invocation to open Woodstock, and it's a great place with lots of fun, interesting people from all over the world in the middle of rural Virginia."

*I think [my younger self] would be asking 'when did you get so into yoga? what happened?

*I think there's a byproduct that's intensely good for people, in art, in sports - anybody who's doing something they love and are great at.

*Gratitude...somebody called it the "aristocrat of the emotions".

Tom Callahan is an Integral Yoga teacher, and has lived and worked in and around Yogaville since 2017. He loves reading, comedy, and playing music. He currently works for the Integral Yoga Teachers Association as Communications Administrator.

Sam Desai inspires us to become our own parents, connect with the power of being grateful, and celebrate our existence. "We have a tendency to repeat that which we are familiar with, even though it is not taking us to the state of happiness that we are craving." -

"The ego doesn't even trust itself, much less anyone else."

"Forget love, forgiveness is love. Then the love appears...it's already there."

"I have to forgive what's out there, rather than trying to change what's out there."

"We don't have to do anything to have things show up for us. We just have to get out of the way, and let the things come. As they come in, just accept them, enjoy them, and then release them."

"Fear is a basic state of separation."

"If I can catch it, I can dismiss it."

"Whatever's unhealed for us, will follow us wherever we go."

"What's your motivation for choosing love?"

"I feel better."

"When I get into a fearful state, things don't flow."

"I realized that there must be a better way."

"I'll be in the victim state. Until I get tired of it. Then I want to find love again."

"There's an ethics with laughter."

"Wherever you are at any given moment, that's the perfect place to be."

"I heard about enlightened masters, but I never actually experienced one until I came here."

"My job in life is to stay in a laughing state."

"There's nobody that I've ever seen on a spiritual path that didn't laugh. And some of them laugh a lot!"

"What matters most is I think is being compassionate, kind, and understanding your mind - watching it, observing."

"The fact that we're conscious beings living on a beautiful planet filled with such a huge variety of living things...it's astonishing, it's awesome - as the people would say."

"Awe-inspiring. Awesome is a word overused. I think it's a sacred word that should be applied to the places that are that, not because someone drives a pedal pushing car or something. That's not awesome, that's just ordinary."

"All of that is, "oh people are going to love me for doing this." That blocks off really understanding what there is around. So, you have to work outside of that, and that's what comes on...this beauty of whatever there is."

"You know, if you look at little little children walking, they'll stop at every leaf and every bush, and they'll look at it. See, they're taking everything in. Everything is like new to them. So every moment, every second, is like ten minutes to you."

"Wouldn't it be great if we could do that? Live every moment, just like that. We walk so fast, we miss what's around us. We miss...the magic."

"The true thing is to know, what you know, that comes from you, that you discover. Then it's yours. Otherwise it's not yours, it's someone else's."

"The whole process is getting plugged in, getting the juice."

"Most of the time people are asleep. They're consciously asleep, and they want someone else to tell them what to do, or how to do, or who they are, or what they are."

"He said (Swami Satchidananda) "Well, if I tell you what to do, you will do it because I told you. What do you want to do? You find out."

"If you're connected to the root of your being, what you're here for, your purpose. Then you serve some function in the world...you can do something for good, and you can do something creative."

"When we're triggered, we can do deep work."

"Organization is the key to self-care"

"Asana is a vehicle to direct the prana."

"Have a nice strong root, and then start growing from that root."

One of the essential teachings of Yoga is to be authentic. There's no need to add anything else. Who you are is the unchanging source of pure awareness. As we rest more deeply in our selves, the experience is more and more joyful, and less dependent on things appearing or being a certain way in the world around us.

Service is really one of the ways that we move toward acceptance and that’s really what my practice is about. My experience with people I’ve worked with is that what we’re looking for and what my students are looking for in their life...isn’t looser hamstrings. Whenever everything else is said and done, it’s really about self love and self acceptance. And it feels to me as though our societies, our modern societies, puts so much pressure on us to not accept ourselves.

"My approach is to let other people think of my labels for me. It's not really any of my business."

"I think the most you can say about human potential, is that approaching something greater than yourself with an attitude of service, gives you an opportunity to realize something about that greater thing."

"I think humility will go a long way on the spiritual path. I wouldn't get too hung up opn what your mind or someone else's mind is abstractly capable of. It will all work out. Just be constant in your practice."
