The consistent wet weather has seen Ian McLennan Park, the only synthetic pitch in the region used extensively so far in 2022. The ground has hosted a full round of Men's Premiership games on the one day with a Super Saturday concept on two occasions. This week, Tim Gibson speaks with FSC CEO Ann-Marie Balliana to discuss the project at Ian McLennan Park and how the pitch is being utilised.
This week Tim Gibson speaks with Wollongong Olympic's new signing Tynan Diaz. Diaz has had a great start to the season with Olympic including scoring the winner last weekend against Woonona at Ian McLennan Park.
This week Tim Gibson sits down with senior referee Brendon Fotheringham to discuss the new interpretations of the Laws of the Game for this season. We also look at what undergarments and jewellery players can wear on the pitch.

Bulli qualified for their first Bert Bampton Cup final since 2004 with a big win over midtable District League side, Oak Flats. The score finished 11-0, however, I doubt any side in the Illawarra would have been able to cope with how brilliant Bulli was tonight.
Here is their coach, Matt Bailey after the full time whistle.
Albion Park kept in touch of the top five with a 6-0 thumping of Corrimal who remain four points off the bottom.
In the match between Wollongong Olympic in 2nd and Tarrawanna in 4th it was Olympic who came out winners 2-0. Shun Tokuno scored an early free kick before Yusuke Ueda tapped in a goal with ten minutes remaining.
Here is Olympic coach, Rob Birkin.

A determined Port Kembla side bagged an 86th minute winner which sees them move back into the top five.
Here are the two coaches, Noel Spencer (Port Kembla) and Luke McGuire (Kemblawarrs Fury).
We have a massive show lined up for Round 16. In the first segment Dylan Arvela speaks with Wollongong Olympic coach, Rob Birkin about this weekend’s action in the Illawarra Mercury Premier League. Birkin discusses the strengths of the three title rivals as well as which Kemblawarra Fury player could be key in the final stages of the season.
Football South Coast Women’s Council member and Fernhill Women’s player, Emi Skopal then joins Dylan to talk about the goings on in The Builders Club Women’s Division 1 as well as the Women’s State Cup. Skopal gives her thoughts on how the top four will shape up along with which players have impressed her most this season.
In the final segment, Dylan talks with one of the WGC Cranes District League’s best goalkeepers in Ben Wunsch of the Oak Flats Falcons. The two give their predictions for the Round 16 matches and Dylan asks the Falcon’s captain if he thinks anyone can catch Fernhill at the top of the table.
We would like to thank Rob, Emi and Ben for giving up their time and coming on the show. If you have any comments or suggestions about the show please let us know through Football South Coast Match Centre on Facebook at @FSC_Official on Twitter.

The match was billed as a bottom of the table dog fight and it lived up to that for the opening hour of play. Woonana opened the scoring and had their second in the 82nd minute but out of no where Corrimal produced three goals in ten minutes to claim the win.
Three Bulli goals in the first half with a fourth in the opening minute of the second set up a dominant 4-1 win over Albion Park. The result moves the 'I back to the top of the table.
Here are the post match interviews with Matt Bailey, the coach of Bulli and Jeff Allport, the coach of Albion Park.
In a match that saw three spectacular goals it was Thirroul White who came out on top with Misha Harrison scoring an 88th minute winner.
Here is the post match interview with Thirroul manager Adam Ward.
Oak Flats took an early lead against top of the table Fernhill but two second half goals and a Falcons red card saw the Foxes claim the three points.
Here are the post match interviews with Fernhill coach Dan McGoldrick and Oak Flats coach Mark Vinton.
On this week’s show, Dylan Arvela is joined by two special guests to preview this weekend’s action in the Illawarra Mercury Premier League and WGC Cranes District League. Kemblawarra Fury came into the match on the back of a stirring draw against Bulli two days early knowing a win could move them into first place. Cringila defended resolutely and restricted the Fury's attacking outlets who seemed to lack a little bit of punch.
Here are the two coaches, Wally Savor of Cringila and Fury boss, Luke McGuire.
Post match interviews with Kemblawarra Fury coach Luke McGuire and Bulli coach Matt Bailey after the Fury scored two goals in the final 13 minutes to claim a point.

Kemblawarra Fury were always going to find it difficult to replace the consistent goal threat of Robbie Shields, however, the club has struck gold with the acquisition of Anthony Proia.
The 23-year-old has scored 18 goals in 13 matches in all competitions this season, showing the attacking ability which made him a key figure for the AIS, Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory in the National Youth League over a number of seasons.
The Sydney-born Proia was also a member of the Australian under 17 side which made the knockout stage of the 2011 under 17 World Cup in Mexico. Though he found minutes hard to come by in the tournament proper, Proia did score twice against Portugal in the lead-up to the World Cup, a moment he still struggles to put into words.
Proia has had some difficulties in recent seasons including a relegation from the NPL 1 with Blacktown Spartans but he credits the Fury and their coach, Luke McGuire for giving him the opportunity to reinvigorate his career in the Illawarra Premier League.
An in-form Olympic travelled to Ian McLennan Park looking to keep the pressure on front runners Bulli. A dogged South Coast were down 2-0 after 20 minutes but came close to drawing level midway through the second half. New Olympic signing, Stefan Dimoski scored in the 83rd minute to grab a brace and the three points for his side. Olympic winning 3-1.
Bulli maintained their undefeated start to the season with a 3-0 win over Corrimal Rangers. Two first half goals for Bulli made for a comfortable win with eyes now turning to Wednesday night when Bulli host Blacktowni City in the FFA Cup.
Here are post-match interviews with Bulli coach, Matt Bailey and Corrimal coach, Gavin O'Brian.
A goal from substitute Liam Unicomb in the 90th minute secured a dramatic 2-1 victory for Kemblawarra Fury over NPL3 side Fraser Park. They now progress to the 7th round of the FFA Cup where they will face Hills United Brumbies for a place in the national draw.
These are the thoughts of Fury coach, Luke McGuire followed by their captain, Alvin Ceccoli.
Tarrawanna picked up their third win of the week with a stirring 3-2 win over Port Kembla which saw them score twice in the final 8 minutes. The winner came from 16-year-old Caleb Grace who came on for his first-grade debut just minutes earlier.
Here are the thoughts of the two coaches starting with Tarrawanna coach, Peter Willis and then Port Kembla coach, Noel Spencer.
On this week’s show, Dylan and Simon discuss some of the big games over the past week including Kemblawarra Fury’s come from behind win over the Albion Park White Eagles. They look ahead to an intriguing set of round nine fixtures including the top of the table clash in the District League between Fernhill and Warilla. We also get to hear from a number of the local coaches including Greg Valic on Josh Brookes who is making an impact a South Coast United.

Wollongong Olympic has had a storming start to the season with a number of marquee victories over some of the Illawarra Premier League’s big sides. The Olympic' headline grabbers have been the likes of ex-Wollongong United playmaker, Johnny Martinoski and their 2016 top scorer, Yusuke Ueda but the 21-year-old, Lukas Stergiou has proved invaluable for Rob Birkin’s side.
Stergiou spent a season in the Sutherland Sharks youth ranks before being signed to the Sydney FC’s National Youth League side for the 2012/13 season. At the Sky Blues, Stergiou was coached by Brian Dene and played alongside the likes for Aaron Calver, Terry Antonis and club captain Terry McFlynn.
During this time, he was selected to represent Australia at under 16s level where he was a member of the squad that qualified for the 2012 AFC U-16 Championships in Tehran. Whilst at the tournament, Australia faced Iran in an intimidating quarter-final clash and while they were knocked out at that stage, Stergiou admits he was extremely honoured to have represented his country.
Stergiou made the move back to Sutherland for the 2014 NPL season where he became a key part of their first grade set up. He spent three seasons at the Sharks before linking up with Olympic. His presence in the number 6 role has been essential for Olympic, being the linchpin between defence and attack.
The two sides started the match seperated by a single point. Josh Brookes put South Coast up via a smart free kick 8 minutes into the match. Cringila striker, Milan Atlagic scored a second half double to secure a win for his side, pushing them into the top five.
Here are the thoughts of South Coast player-coach, Greg Valic.
Port Kembla had worked themselves into the top 5 after a run of three games without defeat. They faced a league-leading Bulli who had just enough quality to run out 2-0 winners with a double from Dylan Lewis.
These are the thoughts of Bulli boss, Matt Bailey and Dylan Lewis after the match.
In the inaugural episode of the Football South Coast Weekly Podcast, Dylan Arvela and Simon Duffin dissect round seven of the Illawarra Mercury Premier League and WGC Cranes District League. They also discuss our clubs strong involvement in the FFA Cup before previewing the upcoming round eight fixtures.

The 2016 Champions travelled to the PCYC to face an in form Wollongong Olympic. After a lively start from Albion Park, the home side took the lead through Jack Balmforth before Yuseke Ueda finished off a lovely set play to make it 2-0 to Wollongong Olympic.
Here are the post match interviews with the Wollongong Olympic and Albion Park White Eagles coaches, Rob Birkin and Jeff Allport.
Elizabeth Park played host to the clash between 3rd and 11th but the gulf in the table wasn't reflected in the result. Bellambi held Coniston to nil in the first half before Franc Piero put the title hopefuls in front in the 54th minute. The home side was not able to muster a goal with the score finishing 1-0.
These are the thoughts of the two coaches, Willy Alarcon of Coniston and Tim Hooker of Bellambi.
Illawarra Premier League outfit Picton Rangers played hosts to NPL giants Sydney Olympic in the 5th round of the FFA Cup. The Hume Oval crowd hopeful of an upset saw Picton go two goals down from the penalty spot. The match finishing 3-0 with an 80th minute goal from Jason Madonis. A spirited performance from the local side that now turn their attention to a busy league scheduale.
Here are the thoughts of the Picton coach Brett Morley,
One of the marquee ties of the weekend pitted two sides with finals ambitions against each other. Port gained an earlier advantage but they were pegged back with 3 goals in 13 second half minutes to go down 3-1.
Here are the post match interviews with the two coaches, Fury boss Luke Mcguire and Noel Spencer of Port Kembla.
Berkeley was looking for back to back wins fro the first time in 2017 and they managed to do so against an inconsistent University. Berkeley took the lead late in the first half before being pegged back early in the second. The home side regained the lead moments later after Greg Moon got on the end of a pinpoint cross from Hayden Till. Berkeley went on to win 3-1.
These are the post match thoughts of Berkeley coach Paul Mears.
Bulli travelled to North Epping Rangers for their FFA Cup 5th round clash. The Football South Coast club went behind to an early penalty but a four-goal flurry in the second half put them up 4-1 on the night. Their 6th round opponents will be the winner of North Shore Mariners and Nepean FC.
These are the thoughts on their coach Matt Bailey.
After weeks of extraordinary rain, the final of the preseason District League Fraternity Cup between Fernhill and Coniston was played on a sunbathed Memorial Park. The clash between two of District League's strongest sides was decided by a single goal by Andrew Breslin with eight minutes on the clock.
After the match, I caught up with the two coaches for Football South Coast. First, the victrouos Fernhill coach Dan McGoldrick followed by Willy Alarcon of Coniston.
District League heavyweights Fernhill kept the pressure on top of the table Coniston with a 1-0 win away to Thirroul. The Foxes took the lead in the opening minute through talisman Andy Keep and managed to hold the Thunder out, earning a clean sheet and the 3 points.
These are the post match interviews with the two coaches, Dan McGoldrick of Fernhill and Garth Bowley of Thirroul.
Wollongong Olympic played host to Port Kembla on a sunbathed PCYC pitch. After a goal each in the opening ten minutes, Olympic was down a man after Blake Coates saw red. Olympic produced a gritty performance scoring two goals on the counter attack late in the second half to earn the 3 points.
These are the thoughts of the two coaches, Rob Birkin of Olympic and Port's Noel Spencer.
Note - I made an error in the question regarding Port Kembla's injuries. It was Smith and Lavalle not Lowcock and Lavalle.
Crehan Park hosted two sides coming off heavy defeats in their opening matches. Cringila's counter attacking football proved key running out 3 goals to nil victors.
These are the thoughts of their coach, Wally Savor after the match.
Bulli travelled to Lynwood Park to face NSW NPL2 side, Macarthur Rams in the 4th round of the FFA Cup. After 120 minutes of end to end football, the Football South Coast club prevailed on penalties. Here is the post match interview with their coach, Matt Bailey.
This capped of a sensational round for FSC clubs with all five team progressing through to the 5th round.
Wollongong United secured a 2-1 win over a youthful Port Kembla. Having conceded an early goal from a counter attack, United were able to score 2 before half time and hold out for the remainder.
Here are the post-match interviews with the Wollongong United's coach, Oliver Vrtkovski and Port Kembla boss, Noel Spencer.
Credit to Mitch Cohen of the Illawarra Mercury for his input.
Glorious footballing conditions at Keith Bond Oval for the round 2 fixture between the in form Falcons and a Warilla side which experienced a turbulent preseason. 2 goals down with 15 minutes to go, the Wanderers staged a stunning comeback to take a share of the points. Here are the thoughts of the two coaches, Mark Vinton of Oak Flats and Warilla's Barney King.
Unanderra Oval played host to the opening round Bert Bampton Cup fixture between Wests Illawarra and Berkeley. With the scores locked at 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes, it was a Jordan Hughes effort in the 117th minute that means Wests progress. These are the post match thoughts of the respective coaches, Arthur Kinnas of Wests and Paul Mears of Berkeley.
After a rocky preseason, Balgownie put in a solid first round display against one of the competition favourites.
Coniston recorded a historic victory in their return to the Illawarra District League. The loyal fans turned out to watch a dour affair but a 30-yard strike for Dinko Terzic was enough to send them home with smiling faces.
Bulli travelled to Moore Park in the heart of Sydney to face Sydney CBD in the 3rd round of the FFA Cup. After being held to nil at half time they managed to sweep CBD aside with 5 second half goals.
Bulli now take on NPL2 side, Macarthur Rams for a place in 5th Round.
Corrimal pulled off an upset with a 1-0 over last season's Grand Final champions Albion Park White Eagles. The win sees Fleming's side top Pool 3 with three impressive wins. Here are his thoughts post game at the Fraternity Club, before the semi-final draw.
The thoughts of Woonona's coach Geoff Foster after his side managed to turn over a 1-0 halftime deficit to win 2-1 in the Fraternity Preseason Cup.
The thoughts of Corrimal coach, John Flemming after he watched his side secure a 1-0 victory over Tarrawanna in the Fraternity Preseason Cup.
