Detectives investigating the murder of a Japanese man during a series of random attacks in Dundalk, Co Louth have said terrorism is one line of inquiry.
An 18-year-old Egyptian man has been arrested on suspicion of the knife murder and subsequent assaults on two local men - one with a knife and one with a fence pole.

Heated debate on whether the Irish Navy should be in the Mediterranean rescuing refugees as a way of benefiting smugglers, and whether Ireland should be taking in refugees at all. Aodhán Ó Ríordáin had heart palpitations following this debate. He sent a letter of complaint to RTÉ for giving O'Doherty and the National Party a platform. Here's his diatribe in full:
"A Chara, I have never before written to RTÉ to complain about any subject but I am appalled, dumbfounded, outraged and indeed absolutely livit at what I have witnessed on my television screen this evening. You managed to handle the most divisive of political issues, one that is tearing countries and communities across Europe apart - the matter of the Refugee Crisis, with the sensitivity of a lumberjack. In doing so it appears you deliberately sought out the most xenophobic and hateful voices you could find in order to enhance viewership numbers. Are the most reasonable people you could find represented by the National Party? Since when has Ian O'Doherty been a respected commentator on anything? You had an opportunity to ask the government representative serious and searching questions about the Refugee Crisis and what our response should be. Instead you choose the lowest common denominator route which I'm quite sure upset any non-white Irish Christian child half to death if they had the misfortune to be watching it. Are they going to be raped by a Muslim? You actually gave a number of speakers a platform to spread that filth. I cannot begin to adequately express my disgust. This is an important issue. Probably the most important issue of our time. And yet your opportunity to debate it calmly and respectfully fell at the alter of gutter journalism. I'm ashamed of what you have produced tonight. I can only hope that children who don't fit into the National Party's perfect view of the world didn't see it. Or that what was said won't be repeated in the playground. If it is I'm sure you'll say that you're only reflecting views in society. But you have responsibilities to the licence payer and to the wider public. A stadium-full of Canadian fans showed some real neighborly sportsmanship this week when they raised their voices in unison to finish the U.S. national anthem after technical difficulties interrupted a performance of the song.
A singer had been belting out “The Star-Spangled Banner” before Tuesday’s game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Nashville Predators when her microphone suddenly cut out.
An awkward silence filled the Air Canada Centre, but it didn’t last long.
Within seconds, thousands of Maple Leafs fans began singing as one, picking up where the singer had left off and finishing the anthem.

Thats its ok not to be accommodating, that its ok to be stubborn and uncommunicative with those that have difficulties in understanding? . Mr Kenny is supposed to be trying his best to communicate to his people - ALL people. By deliberately being unwilling to accommodate others when unfortunate event happens with equipment - and he further obstinate and downright insulting to boot - these are not the characteristics that should be in a national leader. They are certainly not characteristics that should be in any leader or any elected representative. He not only let Ireland down - he let himself down badly. . Mr Kenny's refusal to try better communicating with elected representatives could also be seen as a low attempt to degrade another person and their abilities or lack there of. Its simply disgusting behaviour - especially from the person standing elected, supposed to be leading us all. He should go back to his teaching post and try learning some decency and manners. He exhibited none when refusing to communicate better to all those present that obviously was even willing to listen to him.

Chief Constable Ian Hopkins of Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said that a total of four suspects had been taken into custody as he briefed the press on the Manchester Arena attack investigation outside the GMP force headquarters on Wednesday.
He also confirmed that his team had spoken to immediate family members of all the deceased and that one of the victims was a serving police officer. Due to family wishes, he reframed from making any further comments about the officer.
"I think it's very clear that this is a network that we are investigating" said the chief constable, adding[the investigation] continues at a pace, there's extensive investigations going on and activity taking place across Greater Manchester as we speak".
Manchester police reported that 22-year-old Salman Ramadan Abedi responsible for suicide attack which killed 22. A total of 59 people were hospitalised and 60 were treated by paramedics at a pop concert in the Manchester Arena Monday evening. The self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) has claimed responsibility.

On Monday night, a suicide bombing has killed at least 22 people and injured at least 59 in a pop concert held in Manchester. ISIS said it was behind the attack, and police have arrested a 23-year old man in connection with the attack. Cho Sung-min has the latest. ISIS has claimed responsibility for a suicide attack that killed at least 22 people and injured 59 others at a concert in Manchester Arena on Monday. The terrorist group released a statement through its central media body, and praised the bomber as a "soldier of the caliphate".
Meanwhile, British police said they have arrested a 23-year old man in connection with the bomb attack. Monday's attack at Manchester Arena where U.S. pop singer Ariana Grande performed, is by far the deadliest attack in Britain since 2005 when 52 people were killed in a series of bombings on London's public transportation system.
Many public figures including world leaders have expressed condolences towards the victims and their families. Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy held a minute of silence outside Moncloa Palace along with British Ambassador Simon Manley, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel has expressed "sorrow and horror" over the attack, vowing that Germany will cooperate with Britain to fight terrorism.

CIA Funding and Manipulation of the U.S. News Media Operation Mockingbird was a secret Central Intelligence Agency campaign to influence domestic and foreign media beginning in the 1950s. According to the Congress report published in 1976:
"The CIA currently maintains a network of several hundred foreign individuals around the world who provide intelligence for the CIA and at times attempt to influence opinion through the use of covert propaganda. These individuals provide the CIA with direct access to a large number of newspapers and periodicals, scores of press services and news agencies, radio and television stations, commercial book publishers, and other foreign media outlets."
Senator Frank Church argued that misinforming the world cost American taxpayers an estimated $265 million a year.
In 1948, Frank Wisner was appointed director of the Office of Special Projects (OSP). Soon afterwards OSP was renamed the Office of Policy Coordination (OPC). This became the espionage and counter-intelligence branch of the Central Intelligence Agency. Wisner was told to create an organization that concentrated on "propaganda, economic warfare; preventive direct action, including sabotage, anti-sabotage, demolition and evacuation measures; subversion against hostile states, including assistance to underground resistance groups, and support of indigenous anti-Communist elements in threatened countries of the free world."
Later that year Wisner established Mockingbird, a program to influence the domestic and foreign media. Wisner recruited Philip Graham from The Washington Post to run the project within the industry. According to Deborah Davis in Katharine the Great; "By the early 1950s, Wisner 'owned' respected members of The New York Times, Newsweek, CBS and other communications vehicles."
In 1951, Allen W. Dulles persuaded Cord Meyer to join the CIA. However, there is evidence that he was recruited several years earlier and had been spying on the liberal organizations he had been a member of in the later 1940s. According to Deborah Davis, Meyer became Mockingbird's "principal operative."
In 1977, Rolling Stone alleged that one of the most important journalists under the control of Operation Mockingbird was Joseph Alsop, whose articles appeared in over 300 different newspapers. Other journalists alleged by Rolling Stone Magazine to have been willing to promote the views of the CIA included Stewart Alsop (New York Herald Tribune), Ben Bradlee (Newsweek), James Reston (New York Times), Charles Douglas Jackson (Time Magazine), Walter Pincus (Washington Post), William C. Baggs (The Miami News), Herb Gold (The Miami News) and Charles Bartlett (Chattanooga Times). According to Nina Burleigh (A Very Private Woman), these journalists sometimes wrote articles that were commissioned by Frank Wisner. The CIA also provided them with classified information to help them with their work.
After 1953, the network was overseen by Allen W. Dulles, director of the Central Intelligence Agency. By this time Operation Mockingbird had a major influence over 25 newspapers and wire agencies. These organizations were run by people with well-known right-wing views such as William Paley (CBS), Henry Luce (Time and Life Magazine), Arthur Hays Sulzberger (New York Times), Alfred Friendly (managing editor of the Washington Post), Jerry O'Leary (Washington Star), Hal Hendrix (Miami News), Barry Bingham, Sr., (Louisville Courier-Journal), James Copley (Copley News Services) and Joseph Harrison (Christian Science Monitor).
The Office of Policy Coordination (OPC) was funded by siphoning of funds intended for the Marshall Plan. Some of this money was used to bribe journalists and publishers. Frank Wisner was constantly looking for ways to help convince the public of the dangers of communism. In 1954, Wisner arranged for the funding of the Hollywood production of Animal Farm, the animated allegory based on the book written by George Orwell.
According to Alex Constantine (Mockingbird: The Subversion Of The Free Press By The CIA), in the 1950s, "some 3,000 salaried and contract CIA employees were eventually engaged in propaganda efforts". Wisner was also able to restrict newspapers from reporting about certain events. For example, the CIA plots to overthrow the governments of Iran (See: Operation Ajax) and Guatemala (See: Operation PBSUCCESS).

The attack on a bus at Kalamazoo Avenue SE and Elliott Street is described by Grand Rapids police as a "serious assault." The victim, a man, was transported to Mercy Health Saint Mary's with injuries that are not life-threatening. Video released by The Rapid shows a man stand up from the back of the bus and stab a rider in the ear area as he walks off about 11:53 a.m. on May 11.
