This is a sampling of songs written and recorded over many years in Halifax and Toronto. Many players are featured, including Peter King ,Bruce Dixon (bass);Jim Logan, Ian MacLauchlan,and Gary Edwards (drums);Clarence Deveau, Jamie Alcorn ( guitar);John McMullen, John Alcorn(keys);Jim Creegan(accordion);and Kathryn Rose,Renee Van Kempen,and Janice Powers ( vocals). Thank you all for adding so much. On many tracks, especially those written since the passing of my main collaborator and multi-instrumentalist Ian McLauchlan I have done all of the parts.The song must go on.
Written while pacing on a dock the day before presentation at my wedding on the beach in Nova scotia. Thanks to John Alcorn for piano and harmony.
Composed and recorded in it's initial version by Bob Sheppard and John McMullen in Halifax around 1987, this tune became a live staple for subsequent bands Sheltering Sky (ft. Ian Menzies), and Popcan, my solo effort (sometimes referred to as Bob Sheppard Band) with guitarist Adam Faux. Sadly, the theme should have become passe. It has not.
Someone Once said "I drink the water that has flowed under the bridge". Our protagonist is thirsty for some of that.
Many kids have to hitch hike for miles just to reach a town of 300, 200 of whom are old . Jobs are all but nonexistent, and role models few. My gratitude to a few great teachers who stuck with us, and to the great friends who, like me, found ways to have fun with the world we had!
