He has experienced painful divorce, depression, and homelessness in his ??arly life. He often states that, 'my scars are a roadmap to my past, but don’t define my pathway to my future, by God’s Grace'. Marzi is a published author, public speaker, and activist for religious freedom. Her first book, Captive in Iran, recounts her capture and imprisonment. Her second book, A Love Journey with God, recounts how Marzi found God, the struggles she experienced as a Christian woman in an Islamic Country, and how God can turn any situation into triumph. She has shared her inspiring story throughout the United States and around the world, to bring awareness about the ongoing human rights violations and persecution of women and religious minorities in Iran. Dr Patricia Weerakoon is an Australian Christian sexologist who was born in a Tamil Christian family in Sri Lanka, and grew up on a tea plantation. She is married to Vasantha and they have a son, Kamal, who is a Presbyterian minister. Patricia is a Sexologist, sex educator and writer and was trained in medicine at the University of Sri Lanka and did her postgraduate study in sexology at the University of Hawaii. She retired in 2011 after a 22-year career as an academic at the University of Sydney and for the last 8 years of her time as an academic, she was the director of an internationally recognised postgraduate program in sexual health. Steve Taylor is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, film maker, and actor. He had a successful solo career during the 1980s. In contrast to many Christian musical artists, his songs have often taken aim at Christian hypocrisy or 'error' with the use of satirical, sardonic lyrics. Paul Cohen was born in the Netherlands in 1963. After finishing High School he went to live in Israel and spent a brief period in a Yeshiva (Jewish Theological College) in Jerusalem. Paul met his wife Sue in Israel and later immigrated to Australia where Sue had grown up. Sue became a believer in Jesus in 1984 and was instrumental in Paul becoming a believer in February 1987. He has attended various Bible Schools and since 1992 Paul volunteered or worked for several prominent ministries to the Jewish people. He has a heart to see his people know the love and grace of their true Messiah and desire to share the Biblical stories from a Jewish perspective. Paul and Sue were the founders of Brit Chadashah (the Celebrate Messiah Congregation in Sydney) in 2013, which Paul led for 10 years, today known as Beit Shalom. Paul gives lectures in Biblical theology and Jewish studies at the Western Sydney Bible School, and gives online courses at the Messianic Training Centre. He now lives a life sold out for Jesus, Andrew has lead 1000’s to the Lord through the love, truth and compassion of Christ and encourages believers to do the same in their everyday life. The name Gospel Grenades was born from a dream Andrew had, he was walking through a war-torn city, gangs of people where on street corners plotting destruction. Andrew looked down and the Lord had placed grenades into both his hands, it seemed strange to him but he felt Jesus tell him to throw them into the crowds. Once thrown the grenades exploded in the centre of the crowds with adverse effects, instead of bringing destruction, the explosions brought REVIVAL, PEACE, JOY, LOVE, UNITY, GROWTH, KINDNESS, FAITH, RECONCILIATION. Paul Brittenden was addicted to illicit drugs for a quarter of a century before he made contact with The Salvation Army. Paul is now employed by the Salvo’s as a community engagement worker. He advocates for clients with the courts and government departments like Centrelink. He also provides counselling to people in addiction and pastoral care through God’s Sports Arena (corps) in Brisbane, where he works alongside for Bronco’s Chaplain Bill Hunter.
Paul’s early life was not pleasant. He was adopted as a baby, had an abusive childhood, started on drugs at 14, left home at 16 and spent the next 24 or so years heavily into the drug trade. He had a good paying job, but spent it all on drugs. In 2013, he voluntarily entered the Moonyah rehab program. The 'religious stuff' at Moonyah didn’t interest him. He had been raised by a religious family, but abuse within the family and church turned him away. After coming to Christ, he appeared in court on drugs trafficking charges and was sent to prison. Salvation Army people went to court with him and visited him in jail. They had an effect. Paul started 'a church' in prison. Listen in to his story this week on Historymakers!

Eloise Wellings is an Aussie Long distance runner & Olympic Athlete. She founded the Love Mercy Foundation in 2009 and has since impacted over 100,000 local Ugandans through health & agriculture programs. She is a strong Christian & has stated that she missed out on the Sydney 2000 Olympics due to an injury and thought God was punishing her. Stephen Dale is an Author & Speaker with an amazing story of survival! At the age of 21, Stephen fell 30 metres down a cliff. He suffered major head & spinal injuries, critical blood loss, five heart attacks and severe liver, kidney and abdominal organ damage. During his 8 month hospital stay he lost approximately 40kg, his five senses were compromised, and the head and nerve trauma led to compounding difficulties in communication, movement and excessive pain. Upon the discharge from his fourth hospital, Stephen was confronted with the painful reality of living with injury, fear, financial insecurity and long term unemployment. To add to his dilemma, his head injury took away his capacity to read, write or speak and simply to process information. Constant failure, embarrassment and disappointment in his attempts to overcome these obstacles brought confusion, self-doubt and anxiety. Stephen committed to a self-imposed rehabilitation program that took 10 years to complete. Despite overwhelming medical, physical and social setbacks, he fully regained his cognitive and communication skills. He also rebuilt his physical strength, mobility and endurance. Stephen started Smiling Tiger in 2002, and has since taught and trained individuals and businesses throughout Australia how to overcome their professional and personal obstacles, manage their environment and achieve their goals, regardless of how powerful the obstacles may be. James Condon has been an Officer of The Salvation Army for more than 45 years, retiring from active service in 2016. He has served in a variety of leadership roles in 3 countries: Australia, PNG and the UK. At the International Headquarters of The Salvation Army based in London, he held the position of International Secretary for the South Pacific and East Asia Zone. In 2011, James was appointed Commissioner for the Australia Eastern Territory which covers the States of NSW and QLD as well as the ACT. John Dickson is a writer, speaker and a public advocate for the Christian faith. He was the Founding Director of the Centre for Public Christianity, and has a degree in theology and a PhD in ancient history. An ordained Anglican minister, he was a Research Fellow of the Department of Ancient History at Macquarie University (2005-17), a Visiting Academic in the Faculty of Classics at the University of Oxford (2017-18), and teaches a course on the Historical Jesus for the Department of Jewish Studies at the University of Sydney. Daniel Mingo is the Founder of Abba's Delight, USA, a Christian ministry which assists born-again believers and families and friends of those who are gay-identified, resolve the conflict of the effects of homosexuality on their lives. Daniel became a born-again Christian at age 17, yet for nearly 30 years secretly involved himself in homosexual activity through anonymous encounters. Intensely pursuing discipleship in Jesus while dying to the temptations of same sex attractions proved a monumental internal conflict, yet Daniel neither took on a gay identity nor immersed himself in the gay culture. Realizing he had been feeding a sexual addiction for nearly 30 years, Daniel went into recovery in 1993 through mentor counseling and attending support/recovery group meetings, and continues that overcoming process today. In ministry, Daniel relies on the Bible as the inerrant Word of God; the leading of the Holy Spirit; his 20 years of experience pursuing his own sexual addiction recovery and purity; and the work and ministry of the Holy Spirit to change, and more perfectly conform, His saints to the image of Jesus.
