A new podcast for women about work, life and family. Journalist Josella Waldron talks to strong, smart, intelligent working women about having a fulfilling career and dealing with the challenges of modern family life. Can we do it all?
When Sarah Brown moved into 10 Downing Street when her husband Gordon became Prime Minister she didn’t think her life would change that much. Afterall, she’d already been living next door at number 11 for the previous ten years. But her life did change in ways she didn’t expect. Sarah talks about what living behind the big black door, was like both in the role of Prime Minister’s wife and as the Mum of two small children. Since that time Sarah has been busy campaigning for the children’s charity she founded. Theirworld aims to give children from all over the world the best possible start in life, whatever their circumstances. Sarah also talks about the importance of finding her own voice and how she overcame her fear of public speaking. We also talk about grief and loss. Sarah and Gordon’s baby girl Jennifer died at just 10 days old. Sarah has some heartfelt advice for anyone going through a similar situation. When Sarah Brown was in her twenties she began suffering from chronic outbreaks of hives, or to give it its proper name 'urticaria'. When she couldn’t find any skin creams to soothe her inflamed and irritated skin she decided to have a go at making one herself and her success led to the launch of Pai: an organic skincare range aimed at people with extremely sensitive skin. That was eleven years ago and Pai has gone from lowly beginnings in a garage belonging to Sarah’s parents to an international brand with fans all over the world as well as celebrity endorsements from Emma Watson and Natalie Portman. Sarah has two small boys and talks about the challenges of being a working mum. She doesn’t have a nanny and has learnt to put her smartphone away and focus on family time. Sarah has some great advice for people with sensitive skin. If you’re a parent of a child with eczema you might want to listen! This one’s about work. Whether you’re a working mum or dad looking for the right work-life balance, a mum returning to the workplace after maternity leave or you’re someone who wants to move up the career ladder but isn’t quite sure how. Zena Everett has the answers. Zena used to be a recruiter so she knows how companies think. She also knows how they SHOULD be thinking in order to recruit the best people - particularly parents. As a mum of two, Zena gets why parents need work that’s flexible. Here she explains the traps some working mums fall into like squeezing a five days of work into four and being too grateful for simply having a job in the first place. Oh and don’t be the one who takes the tea-towels home for a wash! zenaeverett.com Zena's Books Stay in touch... facebook.com/howshedoesitpodcast instagram.com/how_she_does_it twitter.com/HowShe_Doesit

What’s it like getting up well before the crack of dawn every day to present on breakfast TV and then go home and do all the mad rushing around that’s part of being a mum? Jacquie Beltrao knows this routine very well. The former Olympic gymnast has been working for Sky News for the last 25 years and for the last 20, she’s been a mum of three. It hasn’t been easy, Jacquie has fought hard to keep her career on track in a fiercely competitive industry. "It's bad enough going for your own smear test, let alone someone else's!" said a friend of mine when I told her I'd been invited to record a smear test for this podcast. But going for your smear is never a bad thing as Athena Lamnisos explains in this episode after she'd kindly invited me along to hers. Athena is CEO of The Eve Appeal, the UK's Gynaecological Cancer Research Charity. She is passionate about women's gynae health and thinks we should all stop using silly words to describe our intimate body parts. She's also got a lot to say about living with teenagers - she has four, and talks about managing her career as a working mum.
