BTR News covers national and global social/political news with a focus on the Black community and how it is impacted by political and social policies. The program features guests who are policy analyst, social activist, politicians, public officials and journalists.
During the first hour we will look at various recent news reports that show bad cops, bad prison guards are not anomaly when the whole system is a "bad system". Don't people make up the "system"? If the system is "bad" or corrupt or doesn't work, that is a reflection on the flesh and blood people running it. We'll check the day's casualty report and see how many people police have killed and check out some of the social media news feeds of our partners. Issue 2 of the 2015 Racism/Terrorism Report Vol. 1 is out. During the second hour we will speak with Mr. Lâ??Sana Dâ??Jahspora would like discuss a fundraiser being held on behalf of his son, Cinque D'Jahspora, a 20 year old shot and killed by black police officer Raymond Dewayne. Dash cam video does appear to confirm witness statements that Cinque D'Jahspora was on the ground when he was shot in the back after the cop initiated contact with him as he walked down the side of a road.
Revolutionary, respected journalist and current radio correspondent for Prison Radio, Mumia Abu-Jamal was recently reported to have had an â??medical emergencyâ?? and was put in intensive care at Schuylkill Medical Center. A campaign to gain the family access was launched on social media with reports that lines were busy but a new report says that family members are now with him. However, The Malcolm X Commemoration Committee says Mumia is in a diabetic coma and from another source states that â??his blood sugar level was very high â?? 779- when hospitalized after passing out. Remains more than 300.â??.

During todayâ??s first hour we will attempt to define who is and who is not an abolitionist? What should abolitionists be doing? Is there an abolitionistâ??s creed and if not should one be written? How do you write an abolitionistâ??s creed? Do you hold a convention where abolitionist delegates work on coming up with a creed. Who picks the delegates thus deciding who is and who is not an â??Abolitionistâ??? Scotty Reid defines an abolitionist as â??a person who believes that people are being enslaved both â??legallyâ?? and illegally in various forms and work in any capacity towards ending slaveryâ??. Others who consider themselves abolitionists believe that to be recognized as an abolitionist, one has to meet specific criteria. What do you think? How do you define an abolitionist? Hameed says parents should be informing themselves, informing their family and friends about the Super Predator Myth created in the 80's by professors at Princeton University, one of Americaâ??s oldest universities founded by white supremacists and is one of the nine Colonial Colleges established before the American Revolution The Super Predator Report said the public should be on high alert for inner city youth that will be Godless, remorseless, jobless, killers, etc.
During the second hour we will be joined by Ms. Angela Chan to discuss legalized slavery in the United States and the illegal use of detained immigrant labor by prisons. Ms. Angela Chan is the policy director and senior staff attorney at the Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Asian Law Caucus. Ms. Chan recently authored an article dealing with the 13th Amendment titled. "America Never Abolished Slavery" which was published on the Huffington Post.
During the broadcast, we want to share information from the Southern Poverty Law Center latest report on hate groups in the United States of America. Interestingly Black separatist movements are considered hate groups according to SPLC but the report provides no information on hate crimes committed by members of these â??black separatistâ?? groups.
Journalist, researcher and Black media producer Glen Ford of Black Agenda Report will join the program to discuss events unfolding in Ferguson, Missouri.

Journalist and independent black media producer Yvette Carnell will drop in on the program to discuss the $20 billion dollar lawsuit filed by the National Association of African-American Media Owners against several big corporations like Comcast and AT&T. The lawsuit alleges that the corporate media giants practiced economic racism against black media producers and named National Action Network founder Al Sharpton in their complaints.

In under-reported news, two Black teens in Detroit are facing up to ten years in prison for a mural they painted on the side of a building of a cop being arrested by a childâ??s angel. However, people are pointing out that three white teens who painted obscenities on a building were charged with misdemeanors and got probation, with community service. When college fraternity members from the University of Michigan destroyed parts of the TreeTops and Boyne Highlands Ski Resorts they were not arrested.

Right Wing talking head Andrea Shea King said on her radio program that members of Congress who skip out on the speech to Congress by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. King specifically singled out Black members of Congress. Her anti-Black rant harkens back to the days of Reconstruction when at least on Black member of Congress was attacked and killed by a racist white mob in South Carolina.

Allegations of racist business practices are being levied at corporate cable giants Time-Warner and Comcast, both of which are named in the $20 billion dollar lawsuit filed by National Association of African-American Owned Media (NAAAOM).

During the first hour today we will speak with Ms. Annabelle Parker via Skype who will join us from Europe to give us an update on the three Corcoran Prisoners in California that went on a hunger strike back in Jan 2014 for human rights for all prisoners. Ms. Parker reports that critical legal aid material among other items in a care package are being withheld from two prisoners which is quite possibly illegally since Ms. Parker paid for the shipping of the packages.
During todayâ??s first hour we will be joined by human rights activist and political prisoner advocate Efia Nwangaza. Ms. Nwangaza has quietly been in the mix of international efforts to address a number of human rights issues before the United Nations. During the second hour we will be joined by Alex Newman who is a writer and political commentator that writes for several conservative/libertarian publications. Mr. Newman has written about the lies that were put forth by members of the Obama administration, including the Democratâ??s presumed 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, to justify a military attack on Libya to topple its autocratic leader Muammar Gaddafi.
Today during the first hour we will be joined by Ana Maria Cardenas of the IFCO/Pastors for Peace to discuss the upcoming bus tour to help break the Cuban blockade. Ana Maria Cardenas, program coordinator for IFCO/Pastors for Peaceâ??s â??Friendshipment Caravanâ?? and she says the bus tour is to dispel myths and propaganda that has helped to cement the American imposed boycott of Cuba and its people.
Today during the first hour we will be joined by Mark Clements, a member of the board of directors and a staffer at Campaign To End The Death Penalty. Mr. Clements has experienced incredible hardship as a wrongfully convicted teen who was tortured into confessing by Chicago police to an arson fire that resulted in fatalities. Mr. Clements will discuss the latest news involving wrongfully convicted death row inmate Rodney Reed who has spent over 17 years on death row in Texas. Texas is known for all the death row executions is has committed over the decades leading the nation. We will also ask Mr. Clements, who still lives and works in Chicago, about the killing of 17-year-old black teen Laquan McDonald by Chicago police who shot the teen 16 times but lied in press statements about only shooting him once in the chest.
Today political activist and attorney Rachel Wolkenstein will join us during the second hour to discuss the cases of two men, Corey Walker and co-defendant Lorenzo Johnson, dubbed the â??New York Niggersâ?? by the Dauphin County Drug Task Force. The Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General established this multi-jurisdictional Municipal Drug Task Force, which is funded by millions of dollars of federal and state taxpayerâ??s funds to pay for overtime to cops to wage war on Black communities under the guise of drug prohibition. According to Attorney Wolkenstein, â??Corey Walker and co-defendant Lorenzo Johnson are two of the estimated 100,000 actually innocent men incarcerated in the United States. They are part of the generation of young Black men imprisoned in the â??war on drugsâ?? that led to the mass incarceration of some 2.3 million men and women, of whom 60% are Black or Hispanicâ??.
Joining the broadcast during the second hour will be President Corrine Mack from the Charlotte Chapter of the NAACP, which is the oldest chapter in the state of North Carolina. President Mack took over the branch when Rev. Kojo Nantambu stepped down from his post on January 9, 2015 and former community affairs chair for the branch took over as President of the chapter that started in 1919. We will cover President Mack's priorities for the chapter, job discrimination and police brutality.
Last week Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake proposed new measures that, she says are to combat police officer misconduct, which is part of a legislative agenda she has for Marylandâ??s General Assembly this year. The Mayor is calling for the assembly to consider three bills that would toughen penalties for police misconduct, increase oversight of the police department, and implement police body cams for officers.
Today we will be joined by writer and conservative/libertarian Alex Newman who recently published an article titled â??Justice Department Grants Linked to Cop-killing Rap Videoâ??. The article proposes that a non-profit legal service group in NYC called Bronx Defenders funded a rap video in which he says promotes the killing of cops. Because the Bronx Defenders receive grants from the Department of Justice to work on legal issues dealing with the criminal justice system, Mr. Newman supposes there is a link between President Obama and Eric Holder to the video via Bronx Defenders via the producers of the World Starr Hip Hop rap video â??Uncle Murda & Maino â??Hands Upâ?? (Eric Garner Tribute)â?? which has over a quarter million views on Youtube with viewers giving the video a positive rating almost 3 to 1.

Today we will be joined again by Lâ??sana DJahspora whose son Cinque â??Qâ?? DJahspora was gunned down by a Jackson, Tennessee cop that witnesses say shot the 20 year-old in the back from a distance. Mr. DJahsopra will be providing us an update on his quest for justice for his son who had a promising future before his life was snuffed out by a proxy racist tool of a cop. Mr. DJahspora asks that you sign the petition demanding a criminal prosecution of his sonâ??s executioner by local authorities.
