On June 5th The Pedro Martinez Foundation brght Boston’s biggest culinary talents and sports personalities together for the ultimate food experience back at Fenway Park. Attendees can spend the day at Fenway, tasting signature dishes from 45 of Boston’s finest chefs and enjoying them from the same stands where they watched Martinez make baseball history as #45 pitcher for The Boston Red Sox. Ticket sales raised funds to support the ongoing food and education services provided by the Pedro Martinez Foundation for children and families here in Boston, Latin America and across the United States, and locally will also support the Foundation’s Lawrence, MA mentorship program. The Pedro Martinez Foundation was founded in 2007 with a focus on transforming the lives of children and their families in the Dominican Republic and United States through holistic education, social services, and mentorship.

This month's featured speaker is Tomás Ávila, the Director of the Rhode Island Office of Diversity, Equity, & Opportunity will be presenting on “Rumbo to A RI MBE Economy”. Tomás was appointed by Governor Daniel J. McKee as the associate director of the state Office of Diversity, Equity, and Opportunity, to insure the fullest possible participation of firms owned and controlled by minorities and women (MBE's) in state funded and state directed public construction programs and projects and the state purchases of goods and services, and developing recruitment and retention activities to promote diversity, and ensuring compliance with the federal and state laws and regulations.

Tomás has a long history of community service committed to the state of Rhode Island and its citizens advancement for over 40 years, Tomás has worked in both economic and political realms, to improve the lives of historically disenfranchised communities.
As a descendant of a multi-racial, cultural, ethnic, and diverse, immigrant family, Ávila has dedicated a great portion of his life advocating and advancing diversity, inclusion, and equitable participation for all human being.
Appointed by Governor Daniel J. McKee as the associate director of the state Office of Diversity, Equity, and Opportunity, to insure the fullest possible participation of firms owned and controlled by minorities and women (MBE's) in state funded and state directed public construction programs and projects and the state purchases of goods and services, and developing recruitment and retention activities to promote diversity, and ensuring compliance with the federal and state laws and regulations.
Tomás has served as executive director of Progreso Latino, deputy director of the Center for Hispanic Policy and Advocacy, Policy Analyst of the Governor Commission on Hispanic Affairs president of the Rhode Island Latino Political Action Committee and was appointed Commissioner and Chairman of the Providence Board of Canvassers by former Mayor Angel Taveras.
As the administrator and cofounder of the Rhode Island Small Business Development Center’s Primer Paso FasTrac business planning program at Johnson & Wales University, he was awarded the 2007 State Star Award by the Association of Small Business Development Centers (ASBDC) for his dedication and commitment to his community business development and empowerment, outstanding SBDC exemplary employee who made significant contributions to his state or region.
Ávila has been the recipient of multiple awards for his volunteer services, most recently the 2020 United Way of Rhode Island, John H. Chafee Lifetime Service Award

This round table is geared towards professionals interested in taking a more active role in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within their organizations. Vice President of Government and International Affairs
C. LeRoy Cavazos-Reyna is a Texas native of the United States (U.S.) border city of Mission. Throughout his academic and professional careers, he has been strongly committed to service, community development, and political activism by working with organizations and government entities dedicated to those very endeavors. Most recently, he worked at Coca Cola Southwest Beverages a company of Arca Continental headquartered in Dallas, Texas/Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico as their Senior Manager of Public Affairs and Communications where he oversaw public engagement and community relationships. A graduate of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley formally UT Pan-American, he holds a Master’s in Public Administration, a Bachelor’s of Arts in Communication with an emphasis in Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations as well as a degree in Spanish with an emphasis in Literature and the History of Spain. C. LeRoy is the youngest of three sons to the authors of his success, his parents Mr. and Mrs. J. Jorge and Irma Estela Cavazos who are still civically involved residents of Mission, Texas.
