So Paul, standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said: "Men of Athens, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. [23] For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription: 'To the unknown god.' What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. [24] The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, [25] nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. [26] And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, [27] that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, [28] for "'In him we live and move and have our being'; as even some of your own poets have said, "'For we are indeed his offspring.' [29] Being then God's offspring, we ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man. [30] The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, [31] because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead." Conference Theme: "Communion With God" Location: Elizabethtown, PA ** PLEASE NOTE: The audio is complete, unfortunately some of the video was removed due to a technical difficulty during the recording of the video. The sermon centers on Luke 12:32—'Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom'—presenting a transformative call to redirect fear from the anxieties of ministry and life toward a reverent, filial fear of God. Rooted in the pastoral reality of spiritual warfare, opposition, and personal weariness, the message reorients the believer's focus from horizontal fears to the vertical confidence found in God's sovereign love and promise of the kingdom. Through a deep exploration of the fear of God as both awe and filial trust, the sermon underscores that true courage arises not from self-reliance but from communion with the Father who delights in giving His kingdom to His children. It calls pastors and believers to internalize this truth as a lifeline, to live with hope in the unseen kingdom, and to embody the joy and boldness of being part of a marginalized yet beloved flock. Ultimately, the passage is presented not as a mere comfort, but as a divine summons to faith, worship, and mission grounded in the unshakable promise of God's grace.
BEHOLD THE CROSS SERIES, #6 Rev. Dr. David J. Bissett, Sr. Pastor The sermon centers on Peter's Pentecost sermon in Acts 2, which powerfully unites the outpouring of the Holy Spirit with the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy, particularly Joel and the Psalms, to reveal Jesus as the crucified and resurrected Messiah. By grounding his message in Scripture, Peter demonstrates that the miraculous events of Pentecost are not mere spectacle but divine confirmation of God's redemptive plan, culminating in the cross and resurrection. He boldly confronts the crowd with their role in rejecting and crucifying Jesus, not as a personal accusation, but as a revelation of humanity's collective sin in rejecting God's appointed Savior, while affirming that God sovereignly orchestrated these events according to His eternal plan. The response he calls for—repentance, faith, and baptism—reflects the urgent invitation to embrace salvation through Christ, which is available to all who call on His name. Ultimately, the sermon presents the cross not as a moment of defeat, but as the decisive victory of God's grace, where human sin and divine sovereignty converge to offer forgiveness, the Holy Spirit, and new life to all who believe. Published: May 6, 2026, 07:00 am
The sermon centers on Galatians 6:14, where Paul declares his boast solely in the cross of Christ, not in personal achievements, religious credentials, or suffering, but in the transformative power of Christ's atonement. This cross-driven humility is not self-abasement, but a spiritual reality in which the believer is crucified to the world and the world to them, resulting in freedom from sin's power and a new identity in Christ. The cross, as both the foundation of salvation and the source of sanctification, shapes the believer's thinking, guides their service, and fosters assurance, all while leading to profound joy. True humility, rooted in the gospel, arises not from fear or guilt, but from the deep awareness of God's love demonstrated at the cross, producing a joyful, self-forgetful devotion to Christ that defines the Christian life. The sermon centers on the profound, self-sacrificial love of God revealed most fully in the death and resurrection of Christ, which serves as the foundation of Christian faith and transformation. It emphasizes that God's agape love—unconditional, costly, and given before we deserved it—is most powerfully displayed in Christ's substitutionary atonement, where He died in our place, not as a moral example but as a propitiation for sin. This love, received by grace through faith in Christ, is not merely an intellectual concept but a life-transforming reality that compels believers to live not for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again. The sermon calls Christians to recognize this love as both a present reality and a lasting power, urging them to let it constrain their words and actions, reflecting God's character in a world that often misunderstands true love. Ultimately, the resurrection confirms the victory of this love, assuring believers of its permanence and unbreakable nature, even in suffering or loss. This sermon centers on the profound significance of the cross in the life, mission, and discipleship of Jesus, emphasizing that His journey to Jerusalem was not one of hesitation but of determined purpose, as He repeatedly foretold His suffering, death, and resurrection with increasing clarity. Drawing from Mark's Gospel, the preacher highlights Jesus' unwavering focus on the Father's will, His early commitment to mission, and His willingness to endure rejection and death as the fulfillment of Scripture, particularly the suffering servant of Isaiah. The sermon critiques the modern neglect of the cross—reduced to a decorative symbol or sidelined in favor of self-help messages—arguing that true Christianity demands a theology of the cross as the heart of salvation, where Christ's death achieves propitiation, redemption, justification, and reconciliation. It calls believers to embrace the cost of discipleship, rejecting a sanitized version of Jesus, and instead following Him by denying self, taking up the cross, and living in faithful obedience, for only through the cross can one be right with God and live a life worthy of the gospel. In Daniel 5, the pride of King Belshazzar leads him to desecrate the sacred vessels of God's temple, using them to toast idols and indulge in reckless revelry, a direct act of defiance against the sovereign God who had previously humbled his father, Nebuchadnezzar. When divine judgment is signaled by a mysterious hand writing on the wall, the king's panic reveals the terrifying reality that no human wisdom or power can withstand God's righteous authority. The queen mother, recalling Daniel's proven wisdom and divine insight, brings him before the king, who, despite his disdain, is forced to confront the truth through Daniel's prophetic rebuke. Daniel declares that Belshazzar, having ignored the lessons of history and failed to humble himself, has been weighed in God's divine balance and found wanting; his kingdom is thus forfeit to the Medes and Persians. The sermon underscores the urgent call to repentance, humility, and immediate response to God's Word, warning against the deadly danger of delaying spiritual awakening, for the day of judgment comes unexpectedly, and only those who are ready will endure. The central message of this chapter is the sovereign rule of God over all earthly kingdoms, revealed through the dramatic humbling and restoration of King Nebuchadnezzar, who is brought low by his pride and restored only after acknowledging that 'the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom He will.' The narrative unfolds as a prophetic testimony, beginning and ending in praise, emphasizing that God's sovereignty is active, present, exclusive, and free—demonstrated not only in cosmic events but in the personal lives of rulers and individuals. Through a dream, a prophetic interpretation, and a period of profound humiliation, Nebuchadnezzar is taught that true greatness lies not in power or self-glory, but in humility before God, and that divine judgment is both inevitable and merciful, offering restoration to those who repent. The story serves as a timeless warning against pride and a profound invitation to recognize God's authority, while underscoring the privilege of receiving divine revelation, admonition, and the opportunity to turn to Him before judgment is fulfilled.
This sermon draws from Daniel 3 to illuminate the nature of unwavering faith under intense pressure, highlighting how Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego remained loyal to God despite a royal decree demanding worship of a golden idol. The preacher emphasizes that true faith is rooted in the sovereignty, power, and exclusivity of the one true God, who alone sets up and removes kings, contrasting this with Nebuchadnezzar's futile attempt to deify himself. The narrative reveals that faith is not merely about miraculous deliverance but about steadfast commitment—even when God's intervention is not guaranteed—trusting in His will above all. The story's climax, where a fourth figure appears unharmed in the furnace, points to God's presence with His people in affliction, offering comfort and assurance that believers are never truly alone. Ultimately, the sermon calls listeners not to emulate the heroes of faith merely for courage, but to place their trust in Jesus Christ, the ultimate Savior who endured the fiercest fire of divine judgment on the cross, securing salvation and providing grace in every trial. The sermon presents the Lord's Prayer as a foundational guide for Christian prayer, emphasizing both how believers should approach God and what they should pray for. It teaches that prayer should be marked by confident, corporate, and cautious posture—addressing God as a loving Father, praying together as the body of Christ, and recognizing God's sovereign presence and knowledge. The prayer's structure reveals a divine-centered focus: first seeking God's glory, kingdom, and will, then petitioning for daily provision, forgiveness, and protection from temptation. Through this framework, the sermon underscores that authentic prayer is not about ritual or formula but about cultivating a relationship rooted in dependence on God, humility in confession, and ongoing spiritual vigilance. Ultimately, the Lord's Prayer is not a mere recitation but a living model that shapes the believer's heart and posture before God, reminding all that true righteousness comes not from performance but from grace. Daniel 1:1–21 ESV [1] In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it. [2] And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with some of the vessels of the house of God. And he brought them to the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, and placed the vessels in the treasury of his god. [3] Then the king commanded Ashpenaz, his chief eunuch, to bring some of the people of Israel, both of the royal family and of the nobility, [4] youths without blemish, of good appearance and skillful in all wisdom, endowed with knowledge, understanding learning, and competent to stand in the king's palace, and to teach them the literature and language of the Chaldeans. [5] The king assigned them a daily portion of the food that the king ate, and of the wine that he drank. They were to be educated for three years, and at the end of that time they were to stand before the king. [6] Among these were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah of the tribe of Judah. [7] And the chief of the eunuchs gave them names: Daniel he called Belteshazzar, Hananiah he called Shadrach, Mishael he called Meshach, and Azariah he called Abednego. [8] But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king's food, or with the wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself. Time, created by God with a definite beginning and end, serves as the divine framework for the unfolding of His redemptive plan, culminating in the incarnation of Jesus Christ at the 'fullness of time.' Rooted in Scripture from Genesis to Revelation, this linear view of time—distinct from cyclical pagan notions—affirms God's sovereign rule over history, where every moment, season, and opportunity is under His authority. The central purpose of time is redemption: Christ's life, death, and resurrection fulfill God's eternal design, offering adoption as sons and the hope of eternal life, which demands a life of stewardship, wisdom, and readiness. Believers are called to number their days, live with accountability, and make Christ known, knowing that time will end and eternity will dawn, making faithful obedience and evangelism not optional but essential to the divine narrative. Published Dec 28, 2025, 03:51 pm Psalm 98 presents salvation as a cosmic victory song that spans from God's past redemption to future consummation, calling all creation to joyful worship. The psalm declares God's salvation as already accomplished through His mighty acts—particularly in Christ's life, death, and resurrection—where His righteousness and faithfulness are revealed to the nations. This victory, proclaimed through the gospel, demands a response of universal celebration, as the whole earth, rivers, hills, and seas join in a cosmic fanfare of praise. Yet the song also looks forward with confident hope to Christ's return, when He will judge the world with righteousness and equity, reversing the curse of sin and restoring all things. Thus, the psalm invites believers to live in joyful anticipation, worshiping the triune God who has saved, is saving, and will fully redeem His creation.
Christmas Eve service The sermon presents a reflective and theologically rich exploration of how the world responded to the birth of Jesus Christ, drawing from Scripture, art, and hymnody to illuminate both the historical obscurity of the event and its eternal significance. Centered on John 1:9–13, it contrasts the world's initial indifference—where Jesus was born unnoticed amid ordinary life, as depicted in Pieter Brueghel's painting of the census—with the profound truth that God's redemptive plan was never dependent on universal recognition. While the world wandered on, unaware, the sermon affirms that God's purpose was fulfilled through the prophets, shepherds, wise men, and angels, all of whom recognized the Savior, and continues today through the global proclamation of the gospel. The message emphasizes that though many do not receive Christ, those who believe are given divine adoption, becoming children of God through faith, and calls believers to join the angels in heralding the good news of salvation. Ultimately, the sermon celebrates Christmas not merely as a historical memory, but as a living invitation to behold and receive the incarnate Son of God. Published December 25, 2025
The sermon presents a theological reflection on the role of angels in the Christmas narrative, emphasizing their divine mission to prepare, protect, and proclaim the coming of Christ. From the annunciation to Zechariah and Mary to the guidance of Joseph and the shepherds, angels serve as divine messengers who convey the good news of salvation with awe-inspiring authority and grace. Their actions—announcing the birth of John the Baptist, revealing the virgin birth, warning Joseph to flee to Egypt, and guarding the infant Jesus—demonstrate God's sovereign orchestration of redemption. The central message of the angels, captured in Luke 2:10–11, is that Christ's birth is the fulfillment of God's promise: a Savior, Christ the Lord, whose salvation is both urgently needed and universally available to all people, regardless of background or status. This good news, rooted in divine sovereignty and centered on Jesus as the anointed Prophet, Priest, and King, calls believers to recognize the angels' presence, heed their message with faith, and join them in joyful worship of the incarnate God. The sermon centers on the profound act of 'beholding' the Savior during Advent, emphasizing that true spiritual perception involves more than sight—it is a holistic, transformative engagement with the divine reality of Christ's incarnation. Drawing from Luke 2, it highlights how God's redemptive promise, first given in Eden and progressively revealed through Scripture, culminates in the humble birth of Jesus in Bethlehem—a moment announced not to the powerful, but to lowly shepherds, underscoring God's sovereign choice to reveal Himself in unexpected, vulnerable ways. The shepherds' response—hasty, reverent, and worshipful—models the believer's proper posture: seeking, sharing, and glorifying God not out of obligation, but from awe and gratitude. The message challenges believers to move beyond ritualized observance, rekindling wonder and personal devotion by meditating on the gospel's depth, sharing their faith with authenticity, and allowing the reality of Christ's presence to inspire genuine worship. Ultimately, the sermon calls the church to a renewed, active faith that sees, treasures, and testifies to the Savior daily. The sermon centers on the wise men's journey to worship the newborn King, emphasizing that their pursuit of Christ was guided by divine revelation, ancient prophecy, and the wisdom of Scripture, not mere astrology. Though foreign and initially distant from Israel's covenant, they were drawn by a celestial sign rooted in Old Testament promises—particularly those of Daniel and Balaam—demonstrating God's global plan to reveal His Messiah to the nations. Their journey highlights three crucial truths: the necessity of Scripture to interpret divine signs, the spiritual apathy of Jerusalem despite knowing the prophecy, and the presence of opposition in the form of Herod, who sought to destroy the child. Ultimately, the wise men's worship of Jesus—offering gold, frankincense, and myrrh—reveals a profound faith that transcended cultural and religious boundaries, pointing to Christ's kingship, divinity, and sacrificial death. The sermon concludes with a call to personal response: while the wise men sought Christ, God Himself is the ultimate Seeker, actively drawing sinners to Himself, and invites all to come, believe, and worship the Savior who came not only to be born but to die and rise for the redemption of the world. This sermon, rooted in 1 Peter 2:1–10 and framed by Reformation principles, affirms that every believer is part of a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a chosen people called to proclaim God's excellencies. It emphasizes that the priesthood of all believers—recovered during the Reformation—dismantles the medieval hierarchy by affirming that Christ alone is the ultimate priest and mediator, making direct access to God possible for every believer without clerical intermediaries. The sermon highlights that this spiritual priesthood is not a call to individualism but to shared ministry, where all Christians, through worship, service, and everyday vocations, offer spiritual sacrifices of praise and live as living stones in a spiritual house. By reclaiming the biblical vision of the church as a community of priests, the message calls for a revival of purpose, unity, and active participation in God's mission, transforming every believer into a witness of grace and a servant in the world. This sermon, rooted in First Corinthians 11, presents the Lord's Supper not merely as a ritual but as a profound act of vertical and horizontal communion—between believers and God, and among believers as members of Christ's body. It calls for a serious spiritual examination: are we truly Christians, have we embraced the gospel of Christ's atoning death, and do we approach the table with reverence, humility, and joy? The central warning is not about ritualistic errors, but about the danger of self-centeredness and division, which distort the meaning of the meal. Paul insists that partaking unworthily—without discerning the body—leads to judgment, because the table is meant to reflect the unity, equality, and mutual care of the church, where no one is to be despised or marginalized. The sermon urges the congregation to see the Lord's Supper as a continual proclamation of Christ's death until His return, a moment that both humbles and unites believers, calling them to love one another as Christ has loved them. The Last Supper (Psalm 41:1-13; Matthew 26:17-25; Mark 14:12-21; John 13:18-30) 7Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed. 8And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat. 9And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare? 10And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in. 11And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? 12And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready. 13And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover. The Lord's Supper Instituted (Matthew 26:26-30; Mark 14:22-2 14And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. 15And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: 16For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, ... The Scripture- Genesis 3-20-24,--20- The man called his wife's name Eve, because she was-the mother of all living. -21- And the LORD God made for-Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.--22- Then the LORD God said, -Behold, the man has-become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he-reach out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and-live forever-- -23- therefore the LORD God sent him out from-the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was-taken. -24- He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden-of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned-every way to guard the way to the tree of life. -esv-
1And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him with the elders, 2And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things-- or who is he that gave thee this authority-- 3And he answered and said unto them, I will also ask you one thing- and answer me- 4The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men-- 5And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven- he will say, Why then believed ye him not-- 6But and if we say, Of men- all the people will stone us- for they be persuaded that John was a prophet. 7And they answered, that they could not tell whence it was. 8And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. 9Then began he to speak to the people this parable- A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time. 10And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard- but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty. 11And again he sent another servant- and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty. 12And again he sent a third- and they wounded him also, and cast him out. 13Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do-- I will send my beloved son- it may be they will reverence him when they see him. 14But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir- come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. 15 So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. - AV
11And as they heard these things, he added and spoke a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. 12He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. 13And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. 14But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. 15And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. 16Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. 17And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant- because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. 18And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. 19And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities. 20And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin- 21For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man- thou take up that thou laid not down, and reap that you did not sow. 22And he said unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knew that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow- 23Wherefore then gave not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury-- 24And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him - AV
Gen 3-10 - 19 - One Bite Kills Us All.--Appealing to the appetites of the natural person are always the method that the father of deception -devil- uses to kill us, spiritually, mentally and eventually physically.-- One bite of disobedience by Adam and Eve set in motion the death of us all. --Cheer up, Jesus the Christ has paid the price for this disobedience and for our sins so we can walk in newness of life-
Luke 18-35-43, -35- As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. -36- And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant. -37- They told him, -Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.- -38- And he cried out, -Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me-- -39- And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, -Son of David, have mercy on me-- -40- And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him, -41- -What do you want me to do for you--- He said, -Lord, let me recover my sight.- -42- And Jesus said to him, -Recover your sight- your faith has made you well.- -43- And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God. -ESV-
Genesis 3-1-10,--1- Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of-the field that the LORD God had made.-He said to the woman, -Did God actually say, 'You shall not-eat of any tree in the garden'--- -2- And the woman said to the-serpent, -We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, -3--but God said, 'You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in-the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.'---4- But the serpent said to the woman, -You will not surely die.--5- For God knows that when you eat of it yYou shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in-the midst of the garden and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.- -6- So-when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it-was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to-make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave-some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. -7- Then the-eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves-loincloths.--8- And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in-the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid-themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees-of the garden. -9- But the LORD God called to the man and said-to him, -Where are you--- -10- And he said, -I heard the sound of-you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I-hid myself.- -ESV-
-9- He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves-that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt- -10---Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. -11- The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed-thus- 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners,-unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. -12- I fast twice a-week- I give tithes of all that I get.' -13- But the tax collector, standing-far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast,-saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner-' -14- I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.- -ESV-
-11- Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace- and the God of love and peace will be with you. -12- Greet one another with a holy kiss. -13- All the saints greet you. -14- The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.--ESV-
Luke 15-11-32,-- -17- -But when he came to himself, he said, 'How many-of my father's hired servants have more than enough bread,-but I perish here with hunger- -18- I will arise and go to my-father, and I will say to him, -Father, I have sinned against-heaven and before you. -19- I am no longer worthy to be-called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.-' -20--And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a-long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran-and embraced him and kissed him. -21- And the son said to-him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I-am no longer worthy to be called your son.' -22- But the-father said to his servants, 'Bring quickly the best robe, and-put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his-feet. -23- And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat-and celebrate. -24- For this my son was dead, and is alive again--he was lost, and is found.' And they began to celebrate. -ESV-
Gen 3-1-7 1Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, -Has God indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'-----2And the woman said to the serpent, -We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden- 3but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.' ---4Then the serpent said to the woman, -You will not surely die. 5For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.---6So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was -a-pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. 7Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked- and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves -b-coverings.
Genesis 2-15-25 15Then the Lord God took -d-the man and put him in the garden of Eden to -e-tend and keep it. 16And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, -Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat- 17but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you-f- shall surely die.--18And the Lord God said, -It is not good that man should be alone- I will make him a helper comparable to him.- 19 Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to -g-Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. 21And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept- and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He -h-made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. 23 And Adam said----This is now bone of my bones-And flesh of my flesh--She shall be called -i-Woman,-Because she was taken out of -j-Man.---24Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be-k- joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.-25And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
Luke 17-20-37,--20- Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, -The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed, -21- nor will they say, 'Look, here it is-' or 'There-' for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.- -22- And he said to the disciples, -The days are coming when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. -23- And they will say to you, 'Look, there-' or 'Look, here-' Do not go out or follow them. -24- For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day. -25- But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this-generation. -26- Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. -27- They were eating and-drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the-day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and-destroyed them all. -28- Likewise, just as it was in the days of-Lot-they were eating and drinking, buying and selling,-planting and building, -29- but on the day when Lot went out-from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed-them all--30- so will it be on the day when the Son of Man is-revealed. -31- On that day, let the one who is on the housetop,-with his goods in the house, not come down to take them-away, and likewise let the one who is in the field not turn back.--32- Remember Lot's wife. -33- Whoever seeks to preserve his-life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it. -34- I tell-you, in that night there will be two in one bed. One will be-taken and the other left. -35- There will be two women-grinding together.

Luke 17-11-19,--11- On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along-between Samaria and Galilee. -12- And as he entered a village,-he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance -13- and-lifted up their voices, saying, -Jesus, Master, have mercy on-us.- -14- When he saw them he said to them, -Go and show-yourselves to the priests.- And as they went they were-cleansed. -15- Then one of them, when he saw that he was-healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice- -16- and-he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he-was a Samaritan. -17- Then Jesus answered, -Were not ten-cleansed-- Where are the nine-- -18- Was no one found to-return and give praise to God except this foreigner--- -19- And-he said to him, -Rise and go your way- your faith has made-you well.- -ESV-
The Scripture- 1st Samuel 28--5- When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly. -6- And when Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD did not answer him, either by dreams, or by Urim, or by prophets. -7- Then Saul said to his servants, Seek out for me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.- And his servants said to him, -Behold, here is a medium at En-dor.- -8- So Saul disguised himself and put on other garments and went, he and two men with him. And they came to the woman by night. And he said, -Divine for-me by a spirit and bring up for me whomever I shall name to you.- -9- The woman said to him, -Surely you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off the mediums and the necromancers from the land. Why then are you laying a trap for my life to bring about my death--- -10- But Saul swore to her by the LORD, -As the LORD lives, no punishment shall come upon you for this thing.- -11- Then the woman said, -Whom shall I bring up for you--- He said, -Bring up Samuel for me.- -12- When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out with a-loud voice. And the woman said to Saul, -Why have you deceived me-- You are Saul.- -13- The king said to her, -Do not be afraid. What do you see--- And the woman said to Saul, -I see a god coming up out of the earth.- -14- He said to her, -What is his appearance--- And she said, -An old man is coming up, and he is wrapped in a robe.- And Saul knew that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground and paid homage. Luke 19-28-44, -28- And when he had said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. -29- When he drew near to Bethphage-and Bethany, at the mount that is called Olivet, he sent two of-the disciples, -30- saying, -Go into the village in front of you,-where on entering you will find a colt tied, on which no one has-ever yet sat. Untie it and bring it here. -31- If anyone asks you,-'Why are you untying it--' you shall say this- 'The Lord has need-of it.'- -32- So those who were sent went away and found it just-as he had told them. -33- And as they were untying the colt, its-owners said to them, -Why are you untying the colt--- -34- And-they said, -The Lord has need of it.- -35- And they brought it to-Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it.--36- And as he rode along, they spread their cloaks on the road.--37- As he was drawing near-already on the way down the-Mount of Olives-the whole multitude of his disciples began to-rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works-that they had seen, -38- saying, -Blessed is the King who comes-in the name of the Lord- Peace in heaven and glory in the-highest-- -39- And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to-him, -Teacher, rebuke your disciples.- -40- He answered, -I tell-you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.---41- And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over-it, -42- saying, -Would that you, even you, had known on this day-the things that make for peace- But now they are hidden from-your eyes. -43- For the days will come upon you, when your-enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and-hem you in on every side -44- and tear you down to
Luke 24 -vv. 1-12, 36-49---1- But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to-the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. -2- And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, -3- but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. -4- While they were perplexed-about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. -5--And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, -Why do you seek the living among the dead-- -6- He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, -7- that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.- -8- And they remembered his words, -9- and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. -10- Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles, -11- but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. -12- But Peter rose and ran to the tomb- stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves- and he went home marveling at what had happened. . . .--36- As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself-stood among them, and said to them, -Peace to you-- -37- But they-were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit. -38- And he said to them, -Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts-- -39- See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.- -40- And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.
Luke 15-11-32,--11- And he said, -There was a man who had two sons. -12--And the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the-share of property that is coming to me.' And he divided his-property between them. -13- Not many days later, the younger-son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country,-and there he squandered his property in reckless living. -14--And when he had spent everything, a severe famine arose in-that country, and he began to be in need. -15- So he went and-hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, who-sent him into his fields to feed pigs. -16- And he was longing to-be fed with the pods that the pigs ate, and no one gave him-anything.--17- -But when he came to himself, he said, 'How many of-my father's hired servants have more than enough bread, but I-perish here with hunger- -18- I will arise and go to my father, and-I will say to him, -Father, I have sinned against heaven and-before you. -19- I am no longer worthy to be called your son.-Treat me as one of your hired servants.-' -20- And he arose and-came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father-saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and-kissed him. -21- And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned-against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be-called your son.' -22- But the father said to his servants, 'Bring-quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his-hand, and shoes on his feet. -23- And bring the fattened calf and-kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. -24- For this my son was dead,-and is alive again- he was lost, and is found.' And they began to-celebrate.--25- -Now his older son was
13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, -Who do people say that the Son of Man is--- 14 And they said, -Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.- 15 He said to them, -But who do you say that I am--- 16 Simon Peter replied, -You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.- 17 And Jesus answered him, -Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah- For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock2 I will build my church, and the gates of lhell3 shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed4 in heaven.- 20 Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.
Luke 15-1-10,--1- Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near-to hear him. -2- And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled,-saying, -This man receives sinners and eats with them.---3- So he told them this parable- -4- -What man of you,-having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not-leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one-that is lost, until he finds it-- -5- And when he has found it, he-lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. -6- And when he comes home,-he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them,-'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.' -7--Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one-sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons-who need no repentance.-8- -Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek-diligently until she finds it-- -9- And when she has found it, she-calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with-me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.' -10- Just so, I tell-you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who-repents.- -ESV-
Luke 14-25-35,--25- Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and-said to them, -26- -If anyone comes to me and does not hate his-own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and-sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. -27--Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me-cannot be my disciple. -28- For which of you, desiring to build a-tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he-has enough to complete it-- -29- Otherwise, when he has laid a-foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock-him, -30- saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to-finish.' -31- Or what king, going out to encounter another king in-war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with-ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty-thousand-- -32- And if not, while the other is yet a great way off,-he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. -33- So-therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has-cannot be my disciple.--34- -Salt is good, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its-saltiness be restored-- -35- It is of no use either for the soil or for-the manure pile. Luke 14-1-11,--1- One Sabbath, when he went to dine at the house of a ruler-of the Pharisees, they were watching him carefully. -2- And-behold, there was a man before him who had dropsy. -3- And-Jesus responded to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, -Is it-lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not--- -4- But they remained-silent. Then he took him and healed him and sent him away. -5--And he said to them, -Which of you, having a son or an ox that-has fallen into a well on a Sabbath day, will not immediately pull-him out--- -6- And they could not reply to these things.--7- Now he told a parable to those who were invited, when-he noticed how they chose the places of honor, saying to them,--8- -When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not-sit down in a place of honor, lest someone more distinguished-than you be invited by him, -9- and he who invited you both will-come and say to you, 'Give your place to this person,' and then-you will begin with shame to take the lowest place. -10- But-when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when-your host comes he may say to you, 'Friend, move up higher.'-Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table-with you. -11- For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled,-and he who humbles himself will be exalted.- -ESV-
1There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2And he answered them, -Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way-- 3No, I tell you- but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. 4Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them- do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem-- 5No, I tell you- but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.---The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree--6And he told this parable- -A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. 7And he said to the vinedresser, 'Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground--' 8And he answered him, 'Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. 9Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good- but if not, you can cut it down.'---A Woman with a Disabling Spirit--10Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. 11And behold, there was a woman who had had a disabling spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. 12When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, -Woman, you are freed from your disability.-
Luke 13-31-35,--31- At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him,--Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.- -32- And he-said to them, -Go and tell that fox, 'Behold, I cast out demons-and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I-finish my course. -33- Nevertheless, I must go on my way today-and tomorrow and the day following, for it cannot be that a-prophet should perish away from Jerusalem.' -34- O Jerusalem,-Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who-are sent to it- How often would I have gathered your children-together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you-were not willing- -35- Behold, your house is forsaken. And I tell-you, you will not see me until you say, 'Blessed is he who comes-in the name of the Lord-'- -ESV-
Luke 13-18-30,--18- He said therefore, -What is the kingdom of God like---And to what shall I compare it-- -19- It is like a grain of mustard-seed that a man took and sowed in his garden, and it grew and-became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its-branches.---20- And again he said, -To what shall I compare the-kingdom of God-- -21- It is like leaven that a woman took and-hid in three measures of flour, until it was all leavened.---22- He went on his way through towns and villages,-teaching and journeying toward Jerusalem. -23- And someone-said to him, -Lord, will those who are saved be few--- And he-said to them, -24- -Strive to enter through the narrow door. For-many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. -25--When once the master of the house has risen and shut the door,-and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying,-'Lord, open to us,' then he will answer you, 'I do not know where-you come from.' -26- Then you will begin to say, 'We ate and-drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.' -27- But-he will say, 'I tell you, I do not know where you come from.-Depart from me, all you workers of evil-' -28- In that place there-will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham-and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God-but you yourselves cast out. -29- And people will come from east-and west, and from north and south, and recline at table in the-kingdom of God. -30- And behold, some are last who will be-first, and some are first who will be last.- -ESV-
The Scripture- Philippians 1-9-11,- -9- And it is my prayer that your love may abound more-and more, with knowledge and all discernment, -10- so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, -11- filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. -ESV-
Isaiah 61-1-3-1- The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,-because the LORD has anointed me- to bring good news to the poor--he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,- to proclaim liberty to the captives,-and the opening of the prison to those who are bound---2- to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor,-and the day of vengeance of our God--to comfort all who mourn---3- to grant to those who mourn in Zion --to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,- the oil of gladness instead of mourning,-the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit-- that they may be called oaks of righteousness,-the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.--ESV-
The Scripture- Hebrews 2-14-18,- -9- But we see him who for a little while was made lower-than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor-because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he-might taste death for everyone. -14- Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, -15- and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. -16- For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. -17- Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect,-so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. -18- For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. -ESV-
The Scripture- Isaiah 60-1-3,--1- Arise, shine, for your light has come,-and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you.--2- For behold, darkness shall cover the earth,-and thick darkness the peoples-- but the LORD will arise upon you,-and his glory will be seen upon you.--3- And nations shall come to your light,-and kings to the brightness of your rising. -ESV-
Luke 13- -6- And he told this parable- -A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. -7- And he said to the vinedresser, 'Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground--' -8- And he answered him, 'Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. -9- Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good- but if not, you can cut it down.'- -ESV- Published 112623-1435
Luke 13--1- There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. -2- And he answered them, Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way-- -3- No, I tell you- but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. -4- Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them- do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem-- -5- No, I tell you- but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.- -ESV-
Luke 12--49- -I came to cast fire on the earth, and would that it were already kindled- -50- I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how great is my distress until it is accomplished- -51- Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth-- No, I tell you, but rather division. -52- For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three. -53- They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.- -54- He also said to the crowds, -When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, 'A shower is coming.' And so it happens. -55- And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, 'There will be scorching heat,' and it happens. -56- You hypocrites- You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time-- -57- -And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right-- -58- As you go with your accuser before the magistrate, make an effort to settle with him on the way, lest he drag you to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer put you in prison. -59- I tell you, you will never get out until you have paid very last penny.- -ESV-
-35- -Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning, -36- and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks. -37- Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will dress himself for service and have them recline at table, and he will come and serve them. -38- If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them awake, blessed are those servants- -39- But know this, that if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into. -40- You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.- -41- Peter said, -Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for all--- -42- And the Lord said, -Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time-- -43- Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. -44- Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. -45- But if that servant says to himself, 'My master is delayed in coming,' and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, -46- the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces and put him with the unfaithful. -47- And that servant who knew his master's will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. -48- But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a...
-1- -And now, O priests, this command is for you. -2- If you-will not listen, if you will not take it to heart to give honor to my-name, says the LORD of hosts, then I will send the curse upon-you and I will curse your blessings. Indeed, I have already cursed-them, because you do not lay it to heart. -3- Behold, I will rebuke-your offspring, and spread dung on your faces, the dung of your-offerings, and you shall be taken away with it. -4- So shall you know-that I have sent this command to you, that my covenant with Levi-may stand, says the LORD of hosts. -5- My covenant with him was-one of life and peace, and I gave them to him. It was a covenant of-fear, and he feared me. He stood in awe of my name. -6- True-instruction was in his mouth, and no wrong was found on his lips.-He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and he turned many-from iniquity. -7- For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge,-and people should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the-messenger of the LORD of hosts. -8- But you have turned aside-from the way. You have caused many to stumble by your-instruction. You have corrupted the covenant of Levi, says the-LORD of hosts, -9- and so I make you despised and abased before-all the people, inasmuch as you do not keep my ways but show-partiality in your instruction.- -ESV---Our Streaming music is Caligaverunt Oculi Mei by Anonymous Choir - Download Free MP3 - Chosic- This track is free to use from https---www.chosic.com-free-music-all-
The burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi. Israel Beloved of God 2-I have loved you,- says the Lord. -Yet you say, 'In what way have You loved us--' Was not Esau Jacob's brother--- Says the Lord.-Yet Jacob I have loved- 3 But Esau I have hated,And laid waste his mountains and his heritage-For the jackals of the wilderness.- 4Even though Edom has said,-We have been impoverished,But we will return and build the desolate places,-Thus says the Lord of hosts--They may build, but I will throw down-They shall be called the Territory of Wickedness,And the people against whom the Lord will have indignation forever. 5Your eyes shall see, And you shall say,'The Lord is magnified beyond the border of Israel.' Polluted Offerings 6-A son honors his father, And a servant his master. If then I am the Father, Where is My honor-- And if I am a Master,Where is My reverence-- Says the Lord of hostsTo you priests who despise My name.Yet you say, 'In what way have we despised Your name--'7-You offer defiled food on My altar,But say,'In what way have we defiled You--'By saying,'The table of the Lord is contemptible.'8And when you offer the blind as a sacrifice,Is it not evil--And when you offer the lame and sick,Is it not evil--Offer it then to your governor-Would he be pleased with you--Would he accept you favorably---Says the Lord of hosts.9-But now entreat God's favor,That He may be gracious to us.While this is being done by your hands,Will He accept you favorably---Says the Lord of hosts.10-Who is there even among you who would shut the doors,So that you would not kindle fire on My altar in vain--I have no pleasure in you,-Says the Lord of hosts,-Nor will I accept an offering from your ha
-13- Someone in the crowd said to him, -Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.- -14- But he said to him, -Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you--- -15- And he said to them, -Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.- -16- And he told them a parable, saying, -The land of a rich man produced plentifully, -17- and he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops--' -18- And he said, 'I will do this- I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. -19- And I will say to my soul, -Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years- relax, eat, drink, be merry.-' -20- But God said to him, 'Fool- This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be--' -21- So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.- -22- And he said to his disciples, -Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. -23- For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. -24- Consider the ravens- they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds- -25- And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life-- -26- If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest-- -27- Consider the lilies, how they grow- they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. -28- But if God so
Luke 12-1-12, -1- In the meantime, when so many thousands of the people had gathered together that they were trampling one another, he began to say to his disciples first, -Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. -2- Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. -3- Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops. -4- -I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. -5- But I will warn you whom to fear- fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him- -6- Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies-- And not one of them is forgotten before God. -7- Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not- you are of more value than many sparrows. -8- -And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man also will acknowledge before the angels of God, -9- but the one who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God. -10- And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. -11- And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, -12- for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.- -ESV- Pub 1004 - 0430
Luke 11-37-54, -37- While Jesus was speaking, a Pharisee asked him to dine with him, so he went in and reclined at table. -38- The Pharisee was astonished to see that he did not first wash before dinner. -39- And the Lord said to him, -Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. -40- You fools- Did not he who made the outside make the inside also-- -41- But give as alms those things that are within, and behold, everything is clean for you. -42- -But woe to you Pharisees- For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. -43- Woe to you Pharisees- For you love the best seat in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces. -44- Woe to you- For you are like unmarked graves, and people walk over them without knowing it.- -45- One of the lawyers answered him, -Teacher, in saying these things you insult us also.- -46- And he said, -Woe to you lawyers also- For you load people with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers. -47- Woe to you- For you build the tombs of the prophets whom your fathers killed. -48- So you are witnesses and you consent to the deeds of your fathers, for they killed them, and you build their tombs. -49- Therefore also the Wisdom of God said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,' -50- so that the blood of all the prophets, shed from the foundation of the world, may be charged against this generation, -51- from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, Pub 1001- 1630
Luke 11-27-36,--27- As he said these things, a woman in the crowd raised-her voice and said to him, -Blessed is the womb that bore you,-and the breasts at which you nursed-- -28- But he said, -Blessed-rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it----29- When the crowds were increasing, he began to say,--This generation is an evil generation. It seeks for a sign, but no-sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah. -30- For as Jonah-became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so will the Son of Man-be to this generation. -31- The queen of the South will rise up at-the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn-them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom-of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.--32- The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this-generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of-Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.--33- -No one after lighting a lamp puts it in a cellar or under-a basket, but on a stand, so that those who enter may see the-light. -34- Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is-healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your-body is full of darkness. -35- Therefore be careful lest the light in-you be darkness. -36- If then your whole body is full of light,-having no part dark, it will be wholly bright, as when a lamp with-its rays gives you light.- -ESV--Sermon pub 092823-0937
The Scripture- Luke 10-38-42,--38- Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. -39- And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at-the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. -40- But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, -Lord, do you not care that my sister-has left me to serve alone-- Tell her then to help me.- -41- But the Lord answered her, -Martha, Martha, you are-anxious and troubled about many things, -42- but one thing is necessary. The Scripture- Luke 10-25-37,--25- And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test,-saying, -Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life--- -26- He said-to him, -What is written in the Law-- How do you read it--- -27- And-he answered, -You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart-and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your-mind, and your neighbor as yourself.- -28- And he said to him, -You-have answered correctly- do this, and you will live.---29- But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, -And-who is my neighbor--- -30- Jesus replied, -A man was going down-from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped-him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. -31- Now by-chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he-passed by on the other side. -32- So likewise a Levite, when he came-to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. -33- But a-Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw-him, he had compassion. -34- He went to him and bound up his-wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal-and brought him to an inn and took care of him. -35- And the next-day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying,-'Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you-when I come back.' -36- Which of these three, do you think, proved-to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers--- -37- He-said, -The one who showed him mercy.- And Jesus said to him, -You-go, and do likewise.- -ESV-
Luke 9-51-56, 51- When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. -52- And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to-make preparations for him. -53- But the people did not receive-him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. -54- And when-his disciples James and John saw it, they said, -Lord, do you-want us to tell fire to come down from heaven and consume-them--- -55- But he turned and rebuked them. -56- And they-went on to another village. -ESV--Pub 072323-1848
Luke 9-57-62 -57- As they were going along the road, someone said to him, -I will follow you wherever you go.- -58- And Jesus said-to him, -Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but-the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.- -59- To another-he said, -Follow me.- But he said, -Lord, let me first go and-bury my father.- -60- And Jesus said to him, -Leave the dead-to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the-kingdom of God.- -61- Yet another said, -I will follow you,-Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.- -62--Jesus said to him, -No one who puts his hand to the plow and-looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.- -ESV- Pub 0730-2000
Luke 9-10-17,--10- On their return the apostles told him all that they -had done. And he took them and withdrew apart to a town -called Bethsaida. -11- When the crowds learned it, they followed -him, and he welcomed them and spoke to them of the kingdom -of God and cured those who had need of healing. -12- Now the -day began to wear away, and the twelve came and said to him, --Send the crowd away to go into the surrounding villages and -countryside to find lodging and get provisions, for we are here in -a desolate place.- -13- But he said to them, -You give them -something to eat.- They said, -We have no more than five loaves -and two fish-unless we are to go and buy food for all these -people.- -14- For there were about five thousand men. And he -said to his disciples, -Have them sit down in groups of about fifty -each.- -15- And they did so, and had them all sit down. -16- And -taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven -and said a blessing over them. Then he broke the loaves and gave -them to the disciples to set before the crowd. -17- And they all ate -and were satisfied. And what was left over was picked up, twelve -baskets of broken pieces. -ESV-
Luke 9-1-9,--1- And he called the twelve together and gave them power-and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, -2- and he sent-them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. -3- And he-said to them, -Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor-bread, nor money- and do not have two tunics. -4- And whatever-house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. -5- And-wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake-off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.- -6- And-they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel-and healing everywhere.--7- Now Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was-happening, and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that-John had been raised from the dead, -8- by some that Elijah had-appeared, and by others that one of the prophets of old had risen.--9- Herod said, -John I beheaded, but who is this about whom I-hear such things--- And he sought to see him. -ESV-
Luke 8-40-56, Now when Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him. And there came a man named Jairus, who was a ruler of the synagogue. And falling at-Jesus' feet, he implored him to come to his house, for he had-an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying.-As Jesus went, the people pressed around him. And-there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve-years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians, she-could not be healed by anyone. She came up behind him and-touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge-of blood ceased. And Jesus said, Who was it that touched me---When all denied it, Peter said, Master, the crowds surround you-and are pressing in on you- But Jesus said, Someone touched-me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me. And-when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling,-and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the-people why she had touched him, and how she had been-immediately healed. And he said to her, Daughter, your faith-has made you well- go in peace. While he was still speaking, someone from the ruler's house came and said, Your daughter is dead- do not trouble the Teacher any more. But Jesus on hearing this answered him, Do not fear- only believe, and she will be well. And when he came to the house, he allowed no one to enter with him, except Peter and John and James, and the father and mother of the child. And all were weeping and mourning for her, but he said, Do not weep, for she is not dead but sleeping. And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But taking her by the hand he-called, saying, Child,...
Luke 8-16-21,--16- -No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light. -17- For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light. -18- Take care then how you hear, for to the one who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he thinks that he has will be taken away.- -19- Then his mother and his brothers came to him, but-they could not reach him because of the crowd. -20- And he was told, -Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, desiring to see you.- -21- But he answered them, -My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.- -ESV-
-36- One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee's house and reclined at table. -37- And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining at table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, -38- and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment. -39- Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, -If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.- -40- And Jesus answering said to him, -Simon, I have something to say to you.- And he answered, -Say it, Teacher.- -41- -A certain moneylender had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. -42- When they could not pay, he cancelled the debt of both. Now which of them will love him more--- -43- Simon answered, -The one, I suppose, for whom he cancelled the larger debt.- And he said to him, -You have judged rightly.- -44- Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, -Do you see this woman-- I entered your house- you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. -45- You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet. -46- You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. -47- Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many,-are forgiven-for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.- -48- And he said to her, -Your sins are forgiven.- -49-Then those who we
8The LORD God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden- and there He placed the man whom He had formed. 9Out of the ground the LORD God caused to grow every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food- the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.- 10 Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden- and from there it divided and became four rivers. 11The name of the first is Pishon- it flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12The gold of that land is good- the bdellium and the onyx stone are there. 13The name of the second river is Gihon- it flows around the whole land of Cush. 14The name of the third river is Tigris- it flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.-- 15Then the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it. 16The LORD God commanded the man, saying, -From any tree of the garden you may eat freely- 17but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.-
Isaiah 53-10b-12,--10- -when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring- he shall prolong his days- the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. -11- Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied- by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities. -12- Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors- yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors. -ESV-
Luke 7-24-35, -24- When John's messengers had gone, Jesus began to-speak to the crowds concerning John- -What did you go out into the wilderness to see-- A reed shaken by the wind-- -25- What then did you go out to see-- A man dressed in soft clothing-- Behold, those who are dressed in splendid clothing and live in luxury are in kings' courts. -26- What then did you go out to see-- A prophet-- Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. -27- This is he of whom it is written,--'Behold, I send my messenger before your face,-who will prepare your way before you.'--28- I tell you, among those born of women none is greater-than John. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is-greater than he.- -29- -When all the people heard this, and the-tax collectors too, they declared God just, having been baptized-with the baptism of John, -30- but the Pharisees and the-lawyers rejected the purpose of God for themselves, not having-been baptized by him.- -31- -To what then shall I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like-- -32- They are like children-sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, -'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance- we sang a dirge, and you did not weep.' -33- For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, 'He has a demon.' -34- The Son of-Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, 'Look at him- A-glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners-' -35- Yet wisdom is justified by all her children.- -ESV-
Luke 7-11-17, -11- Soon afterward he went to a town called Nain, and-his disciples and a great crowd went with him. -12- As he drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. -13- And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, -Do not weep.- -14- Then he came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, -Young man, I say to you, arise.- -15- And the-dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. -16- Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, -A great prophet has arisen among us-- and -God has visited his people-- -17- And this report about him spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country. -ESV-
Luke 7-18-23, -18- The disciples of John reported all these things to-him. And John, -19- calling two of his disciples to him, sent-them to the Lord, saying, -Are you the one who is to come, or-shall we look for another--- -20- And when the men had come-to him, they said, -John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying,-'Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another--'---21- In that hour he healed many people of diseases and-plagues and evil spirits, and on many who were blind he-bestowed sight. -22- And he answered them, -Go and tell John-what you have seen and heard- the blind receive their sight, the-lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are-raised up, the poor have good news preached to them. -23- And-blessed is the one who is not offended by me.- -ESV-
Luke 6-43-49 -43- -For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a-bad tree bear good fruit, -44- for each tree is known by its own-fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes-picked from a bramble bush. -45- The good person out of the-good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person-out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance-of the heart his mouth speaks.--46- -Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do what I-tell you-- -47- Everyone who comes to me and hears my words-and does them, I will show you what he is like- -48- he is like a-man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on-the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that-house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.--49- But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man-who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When-the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of-that house was great.- -ESV-
The Scripture- Psalm 128-A Song of Ascents.- -1- Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways- -2- You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands-- you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you. -3- Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house- your children will be like olive shoots around your table. -4- Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD. -5- The LORD bless you from Zion- May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life- -6- May you see your children's children- Peace be upon Israel-
The Scripture- Luke 6-37-42,--37- -Judge not, and you will not be judged- condemn not,-and you will not be condemned- forgive, and you will be-forgiven- -38- give, and it will be given to you. Good measure,-pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into-your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back-to you.---39- He also told them a parable- -Can a blind man lead a-blind man-- Will they not both fall into a pit-- -40- A disciple is-not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will-be like his teacher. -41- Why do you see the speck that is in-your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own-eye-- -42- How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take-out the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see-the log that is in your own eye-- You hypocrite, first take the log-out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out-the speck that is in your brother's eye. -ESV-
The Scripture- Genesis 2-4-9--4- These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens. -5- When no bush of the field was yet in the land and no-small plant of the field had yet sprung up-for the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to-work the ground, -6- and a mist was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground--7- then the LORD-God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living-creature. -8- And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. -9--And out of the ground the LORD God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of-life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. -ESV-

Luke 6-12-19--12- In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and-all night he continued in prayer to God. -13- And when day-came, he called his disciples and chose from them twelve,-whom he named apostles- -14- Simon, whom he named Peter,-and Andrew his brother, and James and John, and Philip, and-Bartholomew, -15- and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the-son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot, -16- and-Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a-traitor.--17- And he came down with them and stood on a level-place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude-of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre-and Sidon, -18- who came to hear him and to be healed of their-diseases. And those who were troubled with unclean spirits-were cured. -19- And all the crowd sought to touch him, for-power came out from him and healed them all. -ESV-
Jeremiah 29-10-14,--10- -For thus says the LORD- When seventy years are-completed for Babylon, I will visit you, and I will fulfill to you-my promise and bring you back to this place. -11- For I know-the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare-and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. -12- Then you-will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear-you. -13- You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with-all your heart. -14- I will be found by you, declares the LORD,-and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the-nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the-LORD, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent-you into exile.
The Scripture- John 3-16-21 -16- -For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. -17- For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. -18- Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. -19- And this is the judgment- the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. -20- For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. -21- But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.- ESV
-1- On a Sabbath, while he was going through the grainfields, his disciples plucked and ate some heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands. -2- But some of the Pharisees said,-Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath--- -3- And Jesus answered them, -Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him- -4- how he entered the house of God and took and ate the bread of the Presence, which is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those with him--- -5- And he said to them, -The Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.- -6- On another Sabbath, he entered the cand was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was withered. -7- And the scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they might find a reason to accuse him. -8- But he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man with the withered hand, -Come and stand here.- And he rose and stood there. -9- And Jesus said to them, -I ask you, is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it--- -10- And after looking around at them all he said to him, -Stretch out your hand.- And he did so, and his hand was-restored. -11- But they were filled with fury and discussed with-one another what they might do to Jesus. -1- On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, -2- and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. -3- Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. -4- And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, -Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.- -5- And Simon answered, -Master, we toiled all night and took nothing- But at your word I will let down the nets.- -6- And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. -7- They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. -8- But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, -Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.- -9- For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, -10- and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, -Do not be afraid- from now on you will be catching men.- -11- And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him. -ESV--Published 11-9-22-0200
-38- And he arose and left the synagogue and entered Simon's-house. Now Simon's mother-in-law was ill with a high fever, and they-appealed to him on her behalf. -39- And he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately she rose and began to serve them. -40- Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them. -41- And demons also came out of many, crying, -You are the Son of God-- But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ. -42- And when it was day, he departed and went into a desolate place. And the people sought him and came to him, and would have kept him from leaving them, -43- but he said to them, -I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well- for I was sent for this purpose.- -44- And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea. -ESV- -Sermon Published 11-6-22 -1452

And he said to him, -Follow me.---28- And leaving everything, he rose and followed him. -29- And Levi made him a great feast in his house, and there was a large company of tax collectors and others reclining at table with them. -30- And the Pharisees and their scribes grumbled at his disciples, saying, -Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners--- -31- And Jesus answered them, -Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. -32- I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.- -33- And they said to him, -The disciples of John fast often and offer prayers, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink.- -34- And Jesus said to them, -Can you make wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them-- -35- The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.- -36- He also told them a parable- -No one tears a piece from a new garment and puts it on an old garment. If he does, he will tear the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old. -37- And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins and it will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed. -38- But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins. -39- And no one after drinking old wine desires new, for he says, 'The old is good.'- ESV
-12- While he was in one of the cities, there came a man-full of leprosy. And when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face and-begged him, -Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.- -13- And-Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, -I will- be-clean.- And immediately the leprosy left him. -14- And he-charged him to tell no one, but -go and show yourself to the-priest, and make an offering for your cleansing, as Moses-commanded, for a proof to them.- -15- But now even more the-report about him went abroad, and great crowds gathered to-hear him and to be healed of their infirmities. -16- But he would-withdraw to desolate places and pray.--17- On one of those days, as he was teaching, Pharisees-and teachers of the law were sitting there, who had come from-every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. And the-power of the Lord was with him to heal. -18- And behold, some-men were bringing on a bed a man who was paralyzed, and they-were seeking to bring him in and lay him before Jesus, -19- but-finding no way to bring him in, because of the crowd, they went-up on the roof and let him down with his bed through the tiles-into the midst before Jesus. -20- And when he saw their faith, he-said, -Man, your sins are forgiven you.- -21- And the scribes and-the Pharisees began to question, saying, -Who is this who-speaks blasphemies-- Who can forgive sins but God alone--- -22--When Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answered them, -Why-do you question in your hearts-- -23- Which is easier, to say, 'Your-sins are forgiven you,' or to say, 'Rise and walk'-- -24- But that you-may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive-sins--he said to the man who was paraly
-1- And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness -2- for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. Luke 4--31- And he went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And he was teaching them on the Sabbath, -32- and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word possessed authority. -33- And in the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice, -34- -Ha- What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth-- Have you come to destroy us-- I know who you are-the Holy One of God.- -35- But Jesus rebuked him, saying, -Be silent and come out of him-- And when the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm. -36- And they were all amazed and said to one another, -What is this word-- For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out-- -37- And reports about him went out into every place in the surrounding region. -ESV-
Luke 4-16-30--Jesus Rejected at Nazareth---16- And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. -17- And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,-- -18- -The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,- because he has anointed me- to proclaim good news to the poor.- He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives- and recovering of sight to the blind,- to set at liberty those who are oppressed,- -19- to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.-- - - -20- And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. -21- And he began to say to them, -Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.- -22- And all spoke well of him and marveled at the gracious words that were coming from his mouth. And they said, -Is not this Joseph's son--- -23- And he said to them, -Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, '-Physician, heal yourself.- What we have heard you did at Capernaum, do here in your hometown as well.'- -24- And he said, -Truly, I say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown. -25- But in truth, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heavens were shut up three years and six months, and a great famine came over all the land, -26- and Elijah was sent to none of them but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. -27- And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.- -28-...
Luke 3-21-23---21- Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened, -22- and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove- and a voice came from heaven, -You are my beloved Son- with you I am well pleased.---The Genealogy of Jesus Christ---23- Jesus, when he began his ministry, was about thirty years of age, being the son -as was supposed- of Joseph, the son of Heli, -ESV-
Luke 3-1-20 John the Baptist Prepares the Way--1- In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, -2- during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness. -3- And he went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. -4- As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet,--The voice of one crying in the wilderness-- 'Prepare the way of the Lord,- make his paths straight.- -5- Every valley shall be filled,- and every mountain and hill shall be made low,- and the crooked shall become straight,- and the rough places shall become level ways,- -6- and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.'-- -7- He said therefore to the crowds that came out to be baptized by him, -You brood of vipers- Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come-- -8- Bear fruits in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham. -9- Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.--10- And the crowds asked him, -What then shall we do--- -11- And he answered them, -Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.- -12- Tax collectors also came to be baptized and said to him, -Teacher, what shall we do--- Published 9-9 7AM

His parents did not know it, -44- but supposing-him to be in the group they went a day's journey, but then they-began to search for him among their relatives and-acquaintances, -45- and when they did not find him, they-returned to Jerusalem, searching for him. -46- After three days-they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers,-listening to them and asking them questions. -47- And all who-heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.--48- And when his parents saw him, they were astonished. And-his mother said to him, -Son, why have you treated us so---Behold, your father and I have been searching for you in great-distress.- -49- And he said to them, -Why were you looking-for me-- Did you not know that I must be in my Father's-house--- -50- And they did not understand the saying that he-spoke to them. -51- And he went down with them and came to-Nazareth and was submissive to them. Luke 2-1-20--The Birth of Jesus Christ---1- In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. -2- This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. -3- And all went to be registered, each to his own town. -4- And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, -5- to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. -6- And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. -7- And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.--The Shepherds and the Angels---8- And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. -9- And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. -10- And the angel said to them, -Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. -11- For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. -12- And this will be a sign for you- you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.- -13- And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,-- -14- -Glory to God in the highest,- and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased--

Luke 1-5-25 -5- In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest-named Zechariah, of the division of Abijah. And he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. -6- And they were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and statutes of the Lord. -7- But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and both were advanced in years.--8- Now while he was serving as priest before God when his-division was on duty, -9- according to the custom of the-priesthood, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord-and burn incense. -10- And the whole multitude of the people-were praying outside at the hour of incense. -11- And there-appeared to him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side-of the altar of incense. -12- And Zechariah was troubled when he-saw him, and fear fell upon him. -13- But the angel said to him,--Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and-your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his-name John. -14- And you will have joy and gladness, and many-will rejoice at his birth, -15- for he will be great before the Lord.-And he must not drink wine or strong drink, and he will be filled-with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb. -16- And he-will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God,--17- and he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to-turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the-disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the-Lord a people prepared.- -18- And Zechariah said to the angel, -How shall I know this-- For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced in years.- -19- And the angel answer

Psalm 2 -1- Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain-- -2- The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying, -3- -Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.- -4- He who sits in the heavens laughs- the Lord holds them in derision. -5- Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, -6- -As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.- -7- I will tell of the decree- The LORD said to me, -You are my Son- today I have begotten you. -8- Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage and the ends of the earth your possession. -9- You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.- -10- Now therefore, O kings, be wise- be warned, O rulers of the earth. -11- Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. -12- Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. -ESV-
-1- This is the third time I am coming to you. Every charge must be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses.--2- I warned those who sinned before and all the others, and I warn them now while absent, as I did when present on my-second visit, that if I come again I will not spare them--3- since you seek proof that Christ is speaking in me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you. -4- For he was crucified in weakness, but lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but in dealing with you we will live with him by the power of God. -5- Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you---unless indeed you fail to meet the test- -6- I hope you will find out that we have not failed the test. -7- But we pray to God that you may not do wrong-not that we may appear to have met the test, but that you may do what is right, though we may seem to have failed. -8- For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth. -9- For we are glad when we are weak and you are strong. Your restoration is what we pray for. -10- For this reason I write these things while I am away from you, that when I come I may-not have to be severe in my use of the authority that the Lord has given me for building up and not for tearing down. -ESV-
-11- I have been a fool- You forced me to it, for I ought to have-been commended by you. For I was not at all inferior to these superapostles, even though I am nothing. -12- The signs of a true apostle were performed among you with utmost patience, with signs and wonders and mighty works. -13- For in what were you less favored than the rest of the churches, except that I myself did not burden you-- Forgive me this wrong- -14- Here for the third time I am ready to come to you. And I will not be a burden, for I seek not what is yours but you. For children are not obligated to save up for their parents, but parents for their children. -15- I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I love you more, am I to be loved less-- -16- But granting that I myself did not burden you, I was crafty, you say, and got the better of you by deceit. -17- Did I take advantage of you through any of those whom I sent to you-- -18- I urged Titus to go, and sent the brother with him.Did Titus take advantage of you-- Did we not act in the same spirit-- Did we not take the same steps----19- Have you been thinking all along that we have been defending ourselves to you-- It is in the sight of God that we have been speaking in Christ, and all for your upbuilding, beloved. -20- For I fear that perhaps when I come I may find you not as I wish, and that you may find me not as you wish-that perhaps there may be quarreling, jealousy, anger, hostility, slander, gossip, conceit, and disorder. -21- I fear that when I come again my God may humble me before you, and I may have to mourn over many of those who sinned earlier and have not repented of the impurity, sexual immorality, and sensuality that they
-1- I must go on boasting. Though there is nothing to be gained-by it, I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord. -2- I know a-man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven - whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows.--3- And I know that this man was caught up into paradise - whether in-the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows - -4- and he-heard things that cannot be told, which man may not utter. -5- On-behalf of this man I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast,-except of my weaknesses - -6- though if I should wish to boast, I-would not be a fool, for I would be speaking the truth- but I refrain-from it, so that no one may think more of me than he sees in me or-hears from me. -7- So to keep me from becoming conceited because of-the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. -8- Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. -9- But he said to me, -My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.- Therefore I will boast all-the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. -10- For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with-weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. -ESV-
English Standard Version-And God said, -Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds-livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.- And it was so.
-7- Or did I commit a sin in humbling myself so that you-might be exalted, because I preached God's gospel to you free of-charge-- -8- I robbed other churches by accepting support from-them in order to serve you. -9- And when I was with you and was-in need, I did not burden anyone, for the brothers who came-from Macedonia supplied my need. So I refrained and will-refrain from burdening you in any way. -10- As the truth of-Christ is in me, this boasting of mine will not be silenced in the-regions of Achaia. -11- And why-- Because I do not love you-- God-knows I do
2 Corinthians 11-1-6,- -1- I wish you would bear with me in a little foolishness. Do bear with me- -2- For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ. -3- But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. -4- For f someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough. -5- Indeed, I consider that I am not in the least inferior to these super-apostles. -6- Even if I am unskilled in speaking, I am not so in knowledge- indeed, in every way we have made this plain to you in all things. -ESV-
-3- And God said, -Let there be light,- and there was light.--4- And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the-light from the darkness. -5- God called the light Day, and the-darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was-morning, the first day.--6- And God said, -Let there be an expanse in the midst of-the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.- -7- And-God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under-the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it-was so. -8- And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was-evening and there was morning, the second day.--9- And God said, -Let the waters under the heavens be-gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.- And-it was so. -10- God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that-were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was-good. -11- And God said, -Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants-yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed,-each according to its kind, on the earth.- And it was so. -12- The-earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to-their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each-according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. -13- And-there was evening and there was morning, the third day.--14- And God said, -Let there be lights in the expanse of-the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be-for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, -15- and let them-be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the-earth.- And it was so. -16- And God made the two great lights--the greater light to rule the day...
2 Corinthians 10-7-18---7- Look at what is before your eyes. If anyone is confident that he is Christ's, let him remind himself that just as he is Christ's, so also are we. -8- For even if I boast a little too much of our authority, which the Lord gave for building you up and not for destroying you, I will not be ashamed. -9- I do not want to appear to be frightening you with my letters. -10- For they say, -His letters are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account.- -11- Let such a person understand that what we say by letter when absent, we do when present. -12- Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are commending themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding.---13- But we will not boast beyond limits, but will boast only with regard to the area of influence God assigned to us, to reach even to you. -14- For we are not overextending ourselves, as though we did not reach you. For we were the first to come all the way to you with the gospel of Christ. -15- We do not boast beyond limit in the labors of others. But our hope is that as your faith increases, our area of influence among you may be greatly enlarged, -16- so that we may preach the gospel in lands beyond you, without boasting of work already done in another's area of influence. -17- -Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.- -18- For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends. -ESV-
Genesis 1-1-3--The Creation of the World---1- In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. -2- The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.---3- And God said, -Let there be light,- and there was light. -ESV-
2 Corinthians 9-6-8--The Cheerful Giver---6- The point is this- whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. -7- Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. -8- And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. -ESV-

-Romans 2-1-16- Jude 1-3-16- 1And Adam knew Eve his wife- and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. 2And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. 4And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering- 5But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. 6And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth- and why is thy countenance fallen- 7If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted- and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. 8And Cain talked with Abel his brother- and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. 9And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother- And he said, I know not- Am I my brother's keeper- 10And he said, What hast thou done- the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground. 11And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand- 12When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength- a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth. 13And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear. 14Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth- and from thy face shall I be hid- and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be i

2 Corinthians 8-1-15--Encouragement to Give Generously---1- We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, -2- for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. -3- For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, -4- begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints--5- and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us. -6- Accordingly, we urged Titus that as he had started, so he should complete among you this act of grace. -7- But as you excel in everything-in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you-see that you excel in this act of grace also.---8- I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine. -9- For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. -10- And in this matter I give my judgment- this benefits you, who a year ago started not only to do this work but also to desire to do it. -11- So now finish doing it as well, so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have. -12- For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. -13- For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness -14- your abundance at the present time --
2 Corinthians 7-5-16---5- For even when we came into Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were afflicted at every turn-fighting without and fear within. -6- But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, -7- and not only by his coming but also by the comfort with which he was comforted by you, as he told us of your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced still more. -8- For even if I made you grieve with my letter, I do not regret it-though I did regret it, for I see that that letter grieved you, though only for a while. -9- As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us.---10- For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death. -11- For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what punishment- At every point you have proved yourselves innocent in the matter. -12- So although I wrote to you, it was not for the sake of the one who did the wrong, nor for the sake of the one who suffered the wrong, but in order that your earnestness for us might be revealed to you in the sight of God. -13- Therefore we are comforted.--And besides our own comfort, we rejoiced still more at the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all. -14- For whatever boasts I made to him about you, I was not put to shame. But just as everything we said to you was true, so also our boasting before Titus has proved true. -15- And his affection-
The Scripture- Luke 18-1-8--1- And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. -2- He said, -In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. -3- And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, 'Give me justice against my adversary.' -4- For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, 'Though I neither fear God nor respect man, -5- yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.'---6- And the Lord said, -Hear what the unrighteous judge says. -7- And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night- Will he delay long over them- -8- I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth-- -ESV-
Revelation 3-14-22,--14- -And to the angel of the church in Laodicea-write- 'The words of the Amen, the faithful and true-witness, the beginning of God's creation.--15- -'I know your works- you are neither cold nor-hot. Would that you were either cold or hot- -16- So,-because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I-will spit you out of my mouth. -17- For you say, I am rich,-I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that-you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. -18- I-counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that-you may be rich, and white garments so that you may-clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not-be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may-see. -19- Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so-be zealous and repent. -20- Behold, I stand at the door-and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door,-I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.--21- The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with-me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with-my Father on his throne. -22- He who has an ear, let him-hear what the Spirit says to the churches.'- -ESV-

He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. -19- For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, -20- and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. -ESV-

The Scripture- 2 Corinthians 6-14-7-1--14- Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness- Or what fellowship has light with darkness- -15- What accord has Christ with Belial- Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever- -16- What agreement has the temple of God with idols- For we are the temple of the living God- as God said, -I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. -17- Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing- then I will welcome you, -18- and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.- -1- Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God. Paul's Hardships and God's Grace--1We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.--2-For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee- behold, now is the accepted time- behold, now is the day of salvation.---3Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed- 4But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, 5In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings- 6By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, 7By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, 8By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report- as deceivers, and yet true- 9As unknown, and yet well known- as dying, and, behold, we live- as chastened, and not killed- 10As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing- as poor, yet making many rich- as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.--11O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you, our heart is enlarged. 12Ye are not straitened in us, but ye are straitened in your own bowels. 13Now for a recompence in the same, -I speak as unto my children,- be ye also enlarged. - King James Bible

The title of today's Word from God is -His Mercy Is Everlasting- which comes from Psalms 100 - 5 For the Lord is good- his mercy is everlasting- - King James Version--Jonah 4-1-11--God's by His Holy Spirit through Elder Brian Spivey uses God's Word to address the following questions- --What is our solution to our sin and suffering--What is our attitude towards Gods Mercy--Who is in need of God's Mercy-
Mark 14-51-72 -53- And they led Jesus to the high priest. And all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes came together. -54- And Peter had followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he was sitting with the guards and warming himself at the fire. -55- Now the chief priests and the whole council were seeking testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they found none. -56- For many bore false witness against him, but their testimony did not agree. -57- And some stood up and bore false witness against him, saying, -58- -We heard him say, 'I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another , not made with hands.'- -59- Yet even about this their testimony did not agree. -60- And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, -Have you no answer to make- What is it that these men testify against you-- -61- But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, -Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed-- -62- And Jesus said, -I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.- -63- And the high priest tore his garments and said, -What further witnesses do we need- -64- You have heard his blasphemy. What is your decision-- And they all condemned him as deserving death. -65- And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to strike him, saying to him, -Prophesy-- And the guards received him with blows.-ESV
2 Corinthians 5-17-20--17- Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away- behold, the new has come. -18- All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation- -19- that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. -20- Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. -21- For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. ESV
2 Corinthians 5-16-17--16- From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. -17- herefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away- behold, he new has come. ESV
-11- Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. But what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience. -12- We are not commending ourselves to you again but giving you cause to boast about us, so that you may be able to answer those who boast about outward appearance and not about that is in the heart. -13- For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God- if we are in our right mind, it is for you. -14- For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this- that one has died for all, therefore all have died- -15- and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. ESV
The Scripture- 2 Corinthians 5-7-10--7- for we walk by faith, not by sight. -8- Yes, we are of-good courage, and we would rather be away from the-body and at home with the Lord. -9- So whether we are-at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. -10--For we must all appear before the judgment seat of-Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for-what he has done in the body, whether good or evil. ESV
For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, -3- if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. -4- For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened- not that we would be-unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. -5- He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. -6- So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, -7- for we walk by faith, not by sight. ESV
The Scripture- 2 Corinthians 4-16-18--16- So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is -wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. --17- For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us -an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, -18- as -we look not to the things that are seen but to the things -that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, -but the things that are unseen are eternal. ESV
Addresses the value of having God the Holy Spirit living in you. Also not to follow the customs, styles and trends of the world becasuse it leads to death.--The Scripture- 2 Corinthians 4-7-12--7- But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. -8- We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed- perplexed, but not driven to despair- -9- persecuted, but not forsaken- struck down, but not destroyed- -10- always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. -11- For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. -12- So death is at work in us, but life in you. ESV
2 Corinthians 4-1-6--1- Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God,-we do not lose heart. -2- But we have renounced disgraceful,-underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper-with God's word, but by the open statement of the truth we-would commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God. -3- And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. -4- In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing-the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. -5- For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. -6- For God, who said, -Let light shine out of darkness,- has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 3-7-18---7- Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses' face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end, -8- will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory- -9- For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation, the ministry of righteousness must far exceed it in glory. -10- Indeed, in this case, what once had glory has come to have no glory at all, because of the glory that surpasses it. -11- For if what was being brought to an end came with glory, much more will what is permanent have glory.---12- Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, -13- not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end. -14- But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. -15- Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. -16- But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. -17- Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. -18- And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. -ESV-
2 Corinthians 3-1-6--Ministers of the New Covenant---1- Are we beginning to commend ourselves again- Or do we need, as some do, letters of recommendation to you, or from you- -2- You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written on our hearts, to be known and read by all. -3- And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.---4- Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. -5- Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, -6- who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. -ESV-
2 Corinthians 1-23-2-11 But I call God to witness against me-it was to spare you that I refrained from coming again to Corinth. -24- Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy, for you stand firm in your faith. -1- For I made up my mind not to make another painful visit to you. -2- For if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained- -3- And I wrote as I did, so that when I came I might not suffer pain from those who should have-made me rejoice, for I felt sure of all of you, that my joy would be the joy of you all. -4- For I wrote to you out of much affliction and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to cause you pain but to let you know the abundant love that I have for you. -5- Now if anyone has caused pain, he has caused it not to me, but in some measure-not to put it too severely-to all of you. -6- For such a one, this punishment by the majority is enough, -7- so you-should rather turn to forgive and comfort him, or he-may be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. -8- So I beg-you to reaffirm your love for him. -9- For this is why I-wrote, that I might test you and know whether you-are obedient in everything. -10- Anyone whom you-forgive, I also forgive. Indeed, what I have forgiven, if-I have forgiven anything, has been for your sake in the-presence of Christ, -11- so that we would not be-outwitted by Satan- for we are not ignorant of his-designs. ESV
-12- For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience, that we behaved in the world with simplicity and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God, and supremely so toward you. -13- For we are not writing to you anything other than what you read and understand and I hope you will fully understand--14- just as you did partially understand us-that on the day of our Lord Jesus you will boast of us as we will boast of you. -15- Because I was sure of this, I wanted to come to you first, so that you might have a second experience of grace. -16- I wanted to visit you on my way to Macedonia, and to come back to you from Macedonia and have you send me on my way to Judea. -17- Was I vacillating when I wanted to do this- Do I make my plans according to the flesh, ready to say -Yes, yes- and -No, no- at the same time- -18- As surely as God is faithful, our word to you has not been Yes and No. -19- For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No, but in him it is always Yes. -20- For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. -21- And it is God who-establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, -22- and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. Jonah 3--Jonah Goes to Nineveh---1- Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying, -2- -Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it the message that I tell you.- -3- So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days' journey in breadth. -4- Jonah began to go into the city, going a day's journey. And he called out, -Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown-- -5- And the people of Nineveh believed God. They called for a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them.--The People of Nineveh Repent---6- The word reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, removed his robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. -7- And he issued a proclamation and published through Nineveh, -By the decree of the king and his nobles- Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything. Let them not feed or drink water, -8- but let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and let them call out mightily to God. Let everyone turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands. -9- Who knows- God may turn and relent and turn from his fierce anger, so that we may not perish.----10- When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way, God relented of the disaster that he had said he would do to them, and he did not do it. -ESV-
1 Peter 2-16---16- Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. -ESV-
And the LORD appointed a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.--Jonah's Prayer-2 Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish, 2 saying,--I called out to the LORD, out of my distress,-and he answered me--out of the belly of Sheol I cried,-and you heard my voice.-3 For you cast me into the deep,-into the heart of the seas,-and the flood surrounded me--all your waves and your billows-passed over me.-4 Then I said, 'I am driven away-from your sight--yet I shall again look-upon your holy temple.'-5 The waters closed in over me to take my life--the deep surrounded me--weeds were wrapped about my head-6 at the roots of the mountains.-I went down to the land-whose bars closed upon me forever--yet you brought up my life from the pit,-O LORD my God.-7 When my life was fainting away,-I remembered the LORD,-and my prayer came to you,-into your holy temple.-8 Those who pay regard to vain idols-forsake their hope of steadfast love.-9 But I with the voice of thanksgiving-will sacrifice to you--what I have vowed I will pay.-Salvation belongs to the LORD----10 And the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out upon the dry land.
The Scripture- 11 Corinthians 1-8-11--8- For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we ere so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself. -9- Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. -10- He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again. -11- You also must help us by prayer, so that many -will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many. ESV
-Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation- and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort. ---2 Corinthians 1-3-7 -ESV-
The Scripture- 11 Corinthians 1-1-2--1- Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, To the church of God that is at Corinth, with all the saints who are in the whole of Achaia- -2- Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. ESV
The Scripture- 1 Samuel 16-7 But the LORD said to Samuel, -Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the LORD sees not as man sees- man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.--ESV
1st Samuel 31- ESV -1- Now the Philistines were fighting against Israel, and the men of Israel fled before the Philistines and fell slain on Mount Gilboa. -2- And the Philistines overtook Saul and his sons, and the Philistines struck down Jonathan and Abinadab and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul. -3- The battle pressed hard against Saul, and the archers found him, and he was badly wounded by the archers. -4- Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, -Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and mistreat me.- But his armor-bearer would not, for he feared greatly. Therefore Saul took his own sword and fell upon it. -5- And when his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell upon his sword and died with him. -6- Thus Saul died, and his three sons, and his armor-bearer, and all his men, on the same day together. -7- And when the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley and those beyond the Jordan saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and fled. And the Philistines came and lived in them. -8- The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. -9- So they cut off his head and stripped off his armor and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines, to carry the good news to the house of their idols and to the people. -10- They put his armor in the temple of Ashtaroth, and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan. -11- But when the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul, -12- all the valiant men arose and went all night. -13- And
The Scripture- 1st Samuel 30--1- Now when David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had made a raid against the Negeb and against Ziklag. They had overcome Ziklag and burned it with fire -2- and taken captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great. They killed no one, but carried them off and went their way. -3- And when -David and his men came to the city, they found it burned with fire, and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. -4- Then David and the people who were with him raised their voices and wept until they had no more strength to weep. -5- David's two wives also had been taken captive, Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel. -6- And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God. -7- And David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of -Ahimelech, -Bring me the ephod.- So Abiathar brought the ephod to David. -8- And David inquired of the LORD, -Shall I pursue after this band- Shall I overtake them-- He answered him, -Pursue, for you shall surely overtake and shall surely rescue.- -9- So David set out, and the six hundred men who were with him, and they came to the -brook Besor, where those who were left behind stayed. --10- But David pursued, he and four hundred men. Two hundred stayed behind, who were too exhausted to cross the brook Besor. ESV
The Scripture- 1st Samuel 29--6- Then Achish called David and said to him, -As the LORD lives, you have been honest, and to me it seems right that you should march out and in with me in the campaign. For I have found nothing wrong in you from the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, the lords do not approve of you. -7- So go back now- and go peaceably, that you may not displease the lords of the Philistines.- -8- And David said to Achish, -But what have I done- What have you found in your servant from the day I entered your service until now, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king-- -9- And Achish answered David and said, -I know that you are as blameless in my sight as an angel of God. Nevertheless, the commanders of the Philistines have said, 'He shall not go up with us to the battle.' -10- Now then rise early in the morning with the servants of your lord who came with you, and start early in the morning, and depart as soon as you have light.- -11- So David set out with his men early in the morning to return to the land of the Philistines. But the Philistines went up to Jezreel. ESV
The Scripture- 1st Samuel 27--1- Then David said in his heart, -Now I shall perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will despair of seeking me any-longer within the borders of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand.- -2- So David arose and went over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath. -3- And David lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, and David with his two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel, and Abigail of Carmel, Nabal's widow. -4- And when it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath, he no longer sought him. -5- Then David said to Achish, -If I have found favor in your eyes, let a place be given me in one of the country towns, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you-- -6- So that day Achish gave him Ziklag. Therefore Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day. -7- And the number of the days that David lived in the country of the Philistines was a year and four months. ESV
The Scripture- 1st Samuel 26--6- Then David said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Joab's brother Abishai the son of Zeruiah, -Who will go down with me into the camp to Saul-- And Abishai said,--I will go down with you.- -7- So David and Abishai went to the army by night. And there lay Saul sleeping within the encampment, with his spear stuck in the ground at his head, and Abner and the army lay around him. -8- Then Abishai said to David, -God has given your enemy into your hand this day. Now please let me pin him to the earth with one stroke of the spear, and I will not strike him twice.- -9- But David said to Abishai, -Do not destroy him, for who can put out his hand against the LORD's anointed and be guiltless-- -10- And David said, -As the LORD lives, the LORD will strike him, or his day will come to die, or he will go down into battle and perish. -11- The LORD forbid that I should put out my hand against the LORD's anointed. But take now the spear that is at his head and the jar of water, and let us go.- -12- So David took the spear and the jar of water from Saul's head, and they went away. No man saw it or knew it, nor did any awake, for they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from the LORD had fallen upon them. ESV

PALM SUNDAY SERMON 2021--6- The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them.--7- They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them-their cloaks, and he sat on them. -8- Most of the crowd-spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches-from the trees and spread them on the road. -9- And the-crowds that went before him and that followed him were-shouting, -Hosanna to the Son of David- Blessed is he who-comes in the name of the Lord- Hosanna in the highest----10- And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was-stirred up, saying, -Who is this-- -11- And the crowds said,--This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.- -ESV-
The Scripture- 1st Samuel 24--12- -May the LORD judge between me and you, may the-LORD avenge me against you, but my hand shall not be-against you. -13- As the proverb of the ancients says, 'Out of-the wicked comes wickedness.' But my hand shall not be-against you. -14- After whom has the king of Israel come-out- After whom do you pursue- After a dead dog- After a-flea- -15- May the LORD therefore be judge and give-sentence between me and you, and see to it and plead my-cause and deliver me from your hand.- -16- As soon as-David had finished speaking these words to Saul, Saul said,--Is this your voice, my son David-- And Saul lifted up his-voice and wept. -17- He said to David, -You are more-righteous than I, for you have repaid me good, whereas I-have repaid you evil. -18- And you have declared this day-how you have dealt well with me, in that you did not kill-me when the LORD put me into your hands. -19- For if a-man finds his enemy, will he let him go away safe- So may-the LORD reward you with good for what you have done-to me this day. -20- And now, behold, I know that you shall-surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be-established in your hand. -21- Swear to me therefore by the-LORD that you will not cut off my offspring after me, and-that you will not destroy my name out of my father's-house.- -22- And David swore this to Saul. Then Saul went-home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.--ESV-
The Scripture- 1st Samuel 23--6- When Abiathar the son of Ahimelech had fled to-David to Keilah, he had come down with an ephod in his-hand. -7- Now it was told Saul that David had come to-Keilah. And Saul said, -God has given him into my hand, for-he has shut himself in by entering a town that has gates and-bars.- -8- And Saul summoned all the people to war, to go-down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men. -9- David-knew that Saul was plotting harm against him. And he said-to Abiathar the priest, -Bring the ephod here.- -10- Then-David said, -O LORD, the God of Israel, your servant has-surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah, to destroy-the city on my account. -11- Will the men of Keilah-surrender me into his hand- Will Saul come down, as your-servant has heard- O LORD, the God of Israel, please tell-your servant.- And the LORD said, -He will come down.---12- Then David said, -Will the men of Keilah surrender-me and my men into the hand of Saul-- And the LORD-said, -They will surrender you.- -13- Then David and his-men, who were about six hundred, arose and departed from-Keilah, and they went wherever they could go. When Saul-was told that David had escaped from Keilah, he gave up-the expedition. -14- And David remained in the-strongholds in the wilderness, in the hill country of the-wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but-God did not give him into his hand. -ESV-
The Scripture- 1st Samuel 22-6-23--6- Now Saul heard that David was discovered, and-the men who were with him. Saul was sitting at Gibeah-under the tamarisk tree on the height with his spear in his-hand, and all his servants were standing about him. -7- And-Saul said to his servants who stood about him, -Hear now,-people of Benjamin- will the son of Jesse give every one of-you fields and vineyards, will he make you all commanders-of thousands and commanders of hundreds, -8- that all of-you have conspired against me- No one discloses to me-when my son makes a covenant with the son of Jesse. None-of you is sorry for me or discloses to me that my son has-stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this-day.- -9- Then answered Doeg the Edomite, who stood by-the servants of Saul, -I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob,-to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, -10- and he inquired of-the LORD for him and gave him provisions and gave him-the sword of Goliath the Philistine.---11- Then the king sent to summon Ahimelech the-priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father's house, the-priests who were at Nob, and all of them came to the king.--12- And Saul said, -Hear now, son of Ahitub.- And he-answered, -Here I am, my lord.- -13- And Saul said to him,--Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of-Jesse, in that you have given him bread and a sword and-have inquired of God for him, so that he has risen against-me, to lie in wait, as at this day-- -1 Sam. 22-6-13, ESV-
The Scripture- Jonah 1-4-9--4- But the LORD hurled a great wind upon the-sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that-the ship threatened to break up. -5- Then the mariners-were afraid, and each cried out to his god. And they-hurled the cargo that was in the ship into the sea to-lighten it for them. But Jonah had gone down into the-inner part of the ship and had lain down and was fast-asleep. -6- So the captain came and said to him, -What-do you mean, you sleeper- Arise, call out to your god--Perhaps the god will give a thought to us, that we may-not perish.---7- And they said to one another, -Come, let us cast-lots, that we may know on whose account this evil has-come upon us.- So they cast lots, and the lot fell on-Jonah. -8- Then they said to him, -Tell us on whose-account this evil has come upon us. What is your-occupation- And where do you come from- What is-your country- And of what people are you-- -9- And he-said to them, -I am a Hebrew, and I fear the LORD,-the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry-land.- -ESV-
SALVATION IS FROM THE LORD - JONAH SERIES -1-Elder Brian L Spivey, M.Div, Th.M.--The Scripture- Jonah 1-1-3--1- Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the-son of Amittai, saying, -2- -Arise, go to Nineveh, that great-city, and call out against it, for their evil has come up before-me.- -3- But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the-presence of the LORD. He went down to Joppa and found a-ship going to Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went down-into it, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence-of the LORD. -ESV-
-1- Then David came to Nob, to Ahimelech the priest. And-Ahimelech came to meet David, trembling, and said to him, -Why-are you alone, and no one with you-- -2- And David said to-Ahimelech the priest, -The king has charged me with a matter and-said to me, 'Let no one know anything of the matter about which I-send you, and with which I have charged you.' I have made an-appointment with the young men for such and such a place. -3--Now then, what do you have on hand- Give me five loaves of bread,-or whatever is here.- -4- And the priest answered David, -I have no-common bread on hand, but there is holy bread-if the young men-have kept themselves from women.- -5- And David answered the-priest, -Truly women have been kept from us as always when I go-on an expedition. The vessels of the young men are holy even when-it is an ordinary journey. How much more today will their vessels be-holy-- -6- So the priest gave him the holy bread, for there was no-bread there but the bread of the Presence, which is removed from-before the LORD, to be replaced by hot bread on the day it is taken-away.--7- Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that-day, detained before the LORD. His name was Doeg the Edomite,-the chief of Saul's herdsmen.--8- Then David said to Ahimelech, -Then have you not here-a spear or a sword at hand- For I have brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business required-haste.- -9- And the priest said, -The sword of Goliath the-Philistine, whom you struck down in the Valley of Elah, behold, it-is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you will take that,-take it, for there is none but that here.- And David said, -There is-none
The Scripture- Matthew 5-43-48--43- -You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love-your neighbor and hate your enemy.' -44- But I say to you,-Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,--45- so that you may be sons of your Father who is in-heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the-good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. -46--For if you love those who love you, what reward do you-have- Do not even the tax collectors do the same- -47--And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you-doing than others- Do not even the Gentiles do the-same- -48- You therefore must be perfect, as your-heavenly Father is perfect. -ESV-

before Jonathan, -What have I done- What is my guilt- And-what is my sin before your father, that he seeks my life-- -2- And he-said to him, -Far from it- You shall not die. Behold, my father does-nothing either great or small without disclosing it to me. And why-should my father hide this from me- It is not so.- -3- But David-vowed again, saying, -Your father knows well that I have found-favor in your eyes, and he thinks, 'Do not let Jonathan know this,-lest he be grieved.' But truly, as the LORD lives and as your soul-lives, there is but a step between me and death.- -4- Then Jonathan-said to David, -Whatever you say, I will do for you.- -5- David said-to Jonathan, -Behold, tomorrow is the new moon, and I should not-fail to sit at table with the king. But let me go, that I may hide-myself in the field till the third day at evening. -6- If your father-misses me at all, then say, 'David earnestly asked leave of me to run-to Bethlehem his city, for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the-clan.' -7- If he says, 'Good-' it will be well with your servant, but if-he is angry, then know that harm is determined by him. -8--Therefore deal kindly with your servant, for you have brought your-servant into a covenant of the LORD with you. But if there is guilt-in me, kill me yourself, for why should you bring me to your-father-- -9- And Jonathan said, -Far be it from you- If I knew that-it was determined by my father that harm should come to you,-would I not tell you-- -10- Then David said to Jonathan, -Who will-tell me if your father answers you roughly-- -11- And Jonathan said-to David, -Come, let us go out into the field.- So they both went-out into the field.
-11- Then all the people who were at the gate and the elders said,--We are witnesses. May the LORD make the woman, who is-coming into your house, like Rachel and Leah, who together built-up the house of Israel. May you act worthily in Ephrathah and be-renowned in Bethlehem, -12- and may your house be like the house-of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, because of the offspring that-the LORD will give you by this young woman.---13- So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife. And he-went in to her, and the LORD gave her conception, and she bore a-son. -14- Then the women said to Naomi, -Blessed be the LORD,-who has not left you this day without a redeemer, and may his name-be renowned in Israel- -15- He shall be to you a restorer of life and-a nourisher of your old age, for your daughter-in-law who loves you,-who is more to you than seven sons, has given birth to him.- -16--Then Naomi took the child and laid him on her lap and became his-nurse. -17- And the women of the neighborhood gave him a name,-saying, -A son has been born to Naomi.- They named him Obed.-He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.--18- Now these are the generations of Perez- Perez fathered-Hezron, -19- Hezron fathered Ram, Ram fathered Amminadab,--20- Amminadab fathered Nahshon, Nahshon fathered Salmon,--21- Salmon fathered Boaz, Boaz fathered Obed, -22- Obed-fathered Jesse, and Jesse fathered David. -ESV-
22 And when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23-as it is written in the Law of the Lord, -Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord-- 24and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, -a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.- 25Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law, 28he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said,-29-Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word-30for my eyes have seen your salvation31 that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,32a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.-33And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him. 34And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, -Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed 35-and a sword will pierce through your own soul also-, so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.- 36And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, 37and then as a wi

Sermon 1 in the Advent series of 4 sermons Dr. David Bissett brings forth Gods Word in Luke 1-39-55 --May his Holy Spirit give us his Wisdom and Knowledge so we may love and serve him better and one another-
Saul Tries to Kill David-19 And Saul spoke to Jonathan his son and to all his servants, that they should kill David. rBut Jonathan, Saul's son, delighted much in David. 2 And Jonathan told David, -Saul my father seeks to kill you. Therefore be on your guard in the morning. Stay in a secret place and hide yourself. 3 And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, and I will speak to my father about you. And if I learn anything I will tell you.- 4 And Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father and said to him, -Let not the king ssin against his servant David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his deeds have brought good to you. 5 For the took his life in his hand uand he struck down the Philistine, vand the LORD worked a great salvation for all Israel. You saw it, and rejoiced. Why then will you sin against winnocent blood by killing David without cause-- 6 And Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan. Saul swore, x-As the LORD lives, he shall not be put to death.- 7 And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan reported to him all these things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence yas before. - ESV
As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan dloved him as his own soul. 2 And Saul took him that day eand would not let him return to his father's house. 3 Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because dhe loved him as his own soul. 4 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David, and his armor, and even his sword and his bow and his belt. 5 And David went out fand was successful wherever Saul sent him, so that Saul set him over the men of war. And this was good in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul's servants.--Saul's Jealousy of David-6 As they were coming home, when David returned from striking down the Philistine, gthe women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with songs of joy, and with musical instruments.1 7 And the women hsang to one another as they celebrated,--i-Saul has struck down his thousands,--and David his ten thousands.---8 And Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him. He said, -They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed thousands, and what more can he have but jthe kingdom-- 9 And Saul eyed David from that day on. ESV
45 Then David said to the Philistine, -You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with la javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, ewhom you have defied. 46 This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. mAnd I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day nto the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, othat all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, 47 and that all this assembly may know that pthe LORD saves not with sword and spear. qFor the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hand.- - ESV
14 lNow the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, mand a harmful spirit from the LORD tormented him. 15 And Saul's servants said to him, -Behold now, a harmful spirit from God is tormenting you. 16 Let our lord now command your servants nwho are before you to seek out a man who is skillful in playing the lyre, and when the harmful spirit from God is upon you, he will oplay it, and you will be well.- 17 So Saul said to his servants, -Provide for me a man who can play well and bring him to me.- 18 One of the young men answered, -Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, pa man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a man of good presence, qand the LORD is with him.- 19 Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, -Send me David your son, rwho is with the sheep.- 20 sAnd Jesse took a donkey laden with bread and a skin of wine and a young goat and sent them by David his son to Saul. 21 And David came to Saul tand entered his service. And Saul loved him greatly, and he became his armor-bearer. 22 And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, -Let David remain in my service, for he has found favor in my sight.- 23 And uwhenever the harmful spirit from God was upon Saul, David took the lyre oand played it with his hand. So Saul was refreshed and was well, and the harmful spirit departed from him.
16 The Lord said to Samuel, -How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel- Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.- 2 And Samuel said, -How can I go- If Saul hears it, he will kill me.- And the Lord said, -Take a heifer with you and say, 'I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.' 3 And invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do. And you shall anoint for me him whom I declare to you.- 4 Samuel did what the Lord commanded and came to Bethlehem. The elders of the city came to meet him trembling and said, -Do you come peaceably-- 5 And he said, -Peaceably- I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Consecrate yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice.- And he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice. 6 When they came, he looked on Eliab and thought, -Surely the Lord's anointed is before him.- 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, -Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees- man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.- 8 Then Jesse called Abinadab and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, -Neither has the Lord chosen this one.- 9 Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, -Neither has the Lord chosen this one.- 10 And Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, -The Lord has not chosen these.- 11 Then Samuel said to Jesse, -Are all your sons here-- And he said, -There remains yet the youngest but behold, he is keeping the sheep.- www.esv.org-1-Samuel-16-
1st Samuel 15-1-23 shows disobedience in action. --When God gives Saul clear instructions he responds by indulging his own desires which include greed and self-glorification.
False and superstitious -spirituality- is addressed in this sermon by PDB from 1st Samuel 14 - and later true spirituality, from portions of Psalm 119. God bless you as you listen.
1One day Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man who carried his armor, -Come, let us go over to the Philistine garrison on the other side.- But he did not tell his father. 2Saul was staying in the outskirts of Gibeah in the pomegranate cavea at Migron. The people who were with him were about six hundred men, 3including Ahijah the son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, son of Phinehas, son of Eli, the priest of the LORD in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. And the people did not know that Jonathan had gone. 4Within the passes, by which Jonathan sought to go over to the Philistine garrison, there was a rocky crag on the one side and a rocky crag on the other side. The name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh. 5The one crag rose on the north in front of Michmash, and the other on the south in front of Geba. 6 Jonathan said to the young man who carried his armor, -Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that the LORD will work for us, for nothing can hinder the LORD from saving by many or by few.- 7And his armor-bearer said to him, -Do all that is in your heart. Do as you wish.b Behold, I am with you heart and soul.- 8Then Jonathan said, -Behold, we will cross over to the men, and we will show ourselves to them. 9If they say to us, 'Wait until we come to you,' then we will stand still in our place, and we will not go up to them. 10But if they say, 'Come up to us,' then we will go up, for the LORD has given them into our hand. And this shall be the sign to us.- 11So both of them showed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines. And the Philistines said, -Look, Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they have hidden themselves.
1 Saul lived for one year and then became king, and when he had reigned for two years over Israel,a 2Saul chose three thousand men of Israel. Two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and the hill country of Bethel, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin. The rest of the people he sent home, every man to his tent. 3 Jonathan defeated the garrison of the Philistines that was at Geba, and the Philistines heard of it. And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, -Let the Hebrews hear.- 4And all Israel heard it said that Saul had defeated the garrison of the Philistines, and also that Israel had become a stench to the Philistines. And the people were called out to join Saul at Gilgal.--5 And the Philistines mustered to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen and troops like the sand on the seashore in multitude. They came up and encamped in Michmash, to the east of Beth-aven. 6 When the men of Israel saw that they were in trouble -for the people were hard pressed-, the people hid themselves in caves and in holes and in rocks and in tombs and in cisterns, 7 and some Hebrews crossed the fords of the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. Saul was still at Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.8He waited seven days, the time appointed by Samuel. But Samuel did not come to Gilgal, and the people were scattering from him. 9So Saul said, -Bring the burnt offering here to me, and the peace offerings.- And he offered the burnt offering. 10As soon as he had finished offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came. And Saul went out to meet him and greet him. 11Samuel said, -What have you done-- And Saul said, -When
And all the people said to Samuel, -Pray for your servants to the LORD your God, that we may not die, for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask for ourselves a king.- 20 And Samuel said to the people, -Do not be afraid- you have done all this evil. Yet do not turn aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart. 21 And do not turn aside after empty things that cannot profit or deliver, for they are empty. 22 For the LORD will not forsake his people, for his great name's sake, because it has pleased the LORD to make you a people for himself. 23 Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by ceasing to pray for you, and I will instruct you in the good and the right way. 24 Only fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things he has done for you
English Standard Version --2 Corinthians 5-1-5--1 For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, 3 if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. 4 For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened-not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5 He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.
Ephesians 1-3-14--Spiritual Blessings in Christ--3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.--11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guaranteed of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it,e to the praise of his glory. - English Standard Version
James 1-22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
2nd Peter 3 10 But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and its works will be laid bare.--11Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be- You ought to conduct yourselves in holiness and godliness 12as you anticipate and hasten the coming of the day of God, when the heavens will be destroyed by fire and the elements will melt in the heat. 13But in keeping with God's promise, we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.--14Therefore, beloved, as you anticipate these things, make every effort to be found at peace-spotless and blameless in His sight.--15Consider also that our Lord's patience brings salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom God gave him. 16He writes this way in all his letters, speaking in them about such matters. Some parts of his letters are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.
Jesus the Great High Priest--14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. English Standard Version- ESV
Luke 13-6-9 -He spake also this parable- A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard- and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.-13-6-9 This parable of the barren fig-tree is intended to enforce the warning given just before- the barren tree, except it brings forth fruit, will be cut down. This parable in the first place refers to the nation and people of the Jews. Yet it is, without doubt, for awakening all that enjoy the means of grace, and the privileges of the visible church. When God has borne long, we may hope that he will bear with us yet a little longer, but we cannot expect that he will bear always.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1-14 English Standard Version - ESV
Freedom in Christ- --But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible-, - Ephesians 5-13 English Standard Version - ESV
But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father

False Teachers and True Contentment--Teach and urge these things. 3If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the soundb words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, 4he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, 5and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain. 6But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7for we brought nothing into the world, andc we cannot take anything out of the world. 8But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. 9But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. 1 Timothy 6-2-10---If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. 25If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. 26And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul-l Is anything worth more than your soul- 27For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father and will judge all people according to their deeds. Matthew 16-24-28

For the believer in Jesus can have a new attitude if we fill our mind with the Word of God. The one who inspired the writing of God's Word, the Holy Spirit will also give you the power to change the way we think and act through the Word. If you read and think on God's Word your mind will be renewed and it will have no room for the foolishness of this world which will lead you into ungodliness. Pastor Bissett explains that Philippians 4-8 will change not only our attitude but it will change our heart-mind- Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think on these things.
Pre-sermon reading is from 1st Corinthians 13.--This sermon is from Isaiah 55-8-9, -He Isn't Like You.--Gods ways are higher than the heavens above and mankinds ways. God is Holy, Good, Kind, Merciful, Compassionate. He gives the best life now and forever. He is the life giver, sustainer, creator of all. True success is found in confessing sin, asking for God to give you His Holy Spirit and putting your mind on Good things -Him and His Word-. This leads to Life and Peace and your best life now and forever. Even though troubles come, he will bring you through--References- Ps 103-11

An amateur reading-recording of Flavel's MYSTERY OF PROVIDENCE, chapter one -first portion-, from the Banner of Truth Puritan Paperback edition. SDG
The puritan John Flavel first published his Mystery of Providence in 1678. It has been reprinted by the Banner of Truth Trust- the text of their edition is simply read aloud here. Based on the words 'God that performeth all things for me' -Psalm 57-2- this work shows us how Providence works for us in every stage and experience of our lives. The book is richly illustrated from the lives of believers and from the author's wide reading in church history. There are avenues of spiritual knowledge and experience opened to the Christian in this work which he probably never knew existed.
And when you saw that Nahash the king of the Ammonites came against you, you said to me, 'No, but a king shall reign over us,' when the LORD your God was your king. -13- And now behold the king whom you have chosen, for whom you have asked- behold, the LORD has set a king over you. -14- If you will fear the LORD and serve him and obey his voice and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, and if both you and the king who reigns over you will follow the LORD your God, it will be well. -15- But if you will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then the hand of the LORD will be against you and your king. -16- Now therefore stand still and see this great thing that the LORD will do before your eyes. -17- Is it not wheat harvest today- I will call upon the LORD, that he may send thunder and rain. And you shall know and see that your wickedness is great, which you have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking for yourselves a king.- -18- So Samuel called upon the LORD, and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day, and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel. -1 Samuel 12-12-18, ESV
