More Than A Mommy: Recent Episodes

Nikkia H.

I’m multi faceted. I’m a Black Mom who blogs and hosts a podcast. I’m not necessarily a Mom blogger or a Mom podcast host because there are so many other components that I’d like to explore with you. In this podcast, you’ll definitely hear episodes about mom-hood, but you’ll also get my take on things like healing, breaking generational curses and cycles, friendships, and marriage (including life after parenthood 😳)! My ultimate goal is to motivate you to be your best and highest self through reflection and self actualization. Let's get to it! Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/more-than-a-mommy/support

Mothering ourselves is essentially individualized self-care. It’s identifying a place of hurt or pain when it surfaces, digging back to the root of the matter, and applying the love and care you needed at the first point of brokenness. In continuation of our discussion last week, today's episode shares 5 practical ways we can mother ourselves daily as we continue to heal and grow.

Also....we finally made it to the 100th episode!!!! This podcasting journey began in 2019 for me and I'm honestly so proud to have hit this milestone. Thank you to each and every one of you who listened, shared, and subscribed. Your support has been uplifting and I hope this journey has blessed you as its blessed me. Continue blooming beautiful people!!! God Bless!

International Women’s Day is later this week & as we continue to discuss and reflect on the impact of women throughout history, I want us to make it personal. This week, we're walking through a sensitive but necessary topic: The Mother Wound. In today's episode, we'll explore what mother wounds are, how they impact the way we show up in the world, and what we can do about them.

“Every woman who heals herself, heals her mother, her daughter….all that have come before her and are to come after” & since we can’t heal what we don’t reveal, your commitment and vulnerability to unpack any remnants of the mother wound are setting the stage for a lineage of healed women and men in your blood line. Salute yourself, friend!

Happy New Year Family! I hope your energy is high and that you’ve carved out some time for yourself to reflect, refresh, and rest as you gear up for the consecutive WINS that are waiting for you this year. The start of a new year has increasingly become my most anticipated part of the year as I practice goal setting, go inward, and allow myself to take a moment to prepare for all the conquering and achieving I plan to do. This week, I want to share 5 of my own personal practices that help me move my plans and goals from the abstract to the concrete. Each Christmas season, I like to spend some time in the Word reflecting on the birth and journey of Christ. I think about the times that I complain or I feel down because of things not going my way and then I look at Mary’s example and realize that the way we react to things is truly a choice. Mary was a girl's girl, and really set the tone for how we can honor the gifts God places within us. The episode starts off with foolery (you're welcome) and please excuse the background noise...I guess folks couldn't wait to open up their last minute gifts from Amazon until I was done recording. LOL Merry Christmas! Have a beautiful day!!Article Share: https://www.upworthy.com/women-female-friends-more-successful?fbclid=IwAR034bsQUKyfa1cpJpeJztMxT-sJVNKMb7jzmlYzEB-HAp-hd7yiubT67jA

One of my PET PEEVES is when the enemy tries to attack our sense of worthiness. Y'all, I thought we were loosed from the chokehold of this topic, but since we're not, we're getting straight to it this week! In this episode:

  1. Your WORKS are not tied to your WORTH.
  2. Your Relationship Status Does Not Solidify Your Worth.
  3. Your Mistakes Don’t Diminish Your Worth.

I never know who the message is for every week, but I feel so strongly about this week's episode and I just know someone will be blessed by this reminder. You are already worthy. You were born worthy. God deposited your worth in a one-way transaction the minute He formed you in your mother’s womb. You are not defined by your weight. You are not defined by your bank account. You are not defined by the number of degrees you hold. You are not defined by your intellect. Your worth is a permanent part of your DNA. You will ALWAYS be WORTHY!

I don’t know about you, but I have ALWAYS been (both indirectly and directly) encouraged to shrink. To not take up space. To not be too loud, too smart, too pretty, too talented, too wise, too challenging, etc. For far too long, I believed the lie that subconsciously told me that I needed to do the opposite of taking up space so that other people could feel comfortable. At first glance, and ESPECIALLY when we’re on the receiving end, boundaries might feel like walls, barriers, or attacks. This week, it's time to dispel that myth. When done right, boundaries are actually an opportunity for us to engage as our highest selves, honoring both ourselves and others in the process. • Boundaries are not barriers

  • Knowing our limits & standing our ground

What is your comfort level with saying “no”? According to psychologytoday.com, women are especially socialized to stray away from saying no, particularly if it will result in possible hurt feelings or strained relationships. Thank God for the good news of unlearning that part of our conditioning! In this episode, we explore three pillars of playing the "no" card (when necessary):

Continually choosing ourselves is the root of “self-care” and an intentional, daily practice. Sometimes, choosing yourself means acknowledging the things that we’ve put in place that keep us from living freely and experiencing all the good life has to offer. Other times, it means creating your boundaries and honoring them consistently!Join me in this week's episode as we explore the concept of choosing OURSELVES. Thanks for listening! Healing is not a linear process. The journey looks more like: working through all the ebbs and flows of acknowledging, addressing, and eventually overcoming negative cycles, patterns, and relationships in our lives, feeling a sense of exuberance as we finally “break free”, only to feel overcome and overwhelmed all over again! LAWD! This week's episode explores practical ways to embrace every part of our healing journey & ways to keep going even when it's rough. Thank you so much for listening!! Make sure you're subscribed so that you get new episodes hot & ready every Monday. =)

Last week, we explored the idea of shifting the narrative we believe and speak about ourselves, but before that happens, we have to be willing to hold a mirror in front of ourselves and acknowledge everything we're carrying. This episode dives deeper as we get into three things we need to address in order to live healed, whole & healthy lives. Thanks for joining me for another week of The Monday Bloom!

I've been thinking a lot lately about the way we are wired to sometimes prematurely cancel people in our lives when they aren't meeting the expectations we have for them. In this episode, I pose a more nuanced way of approaching those "sandpaper" people that has helped me navigate the complexity of adulting in community. Thanks for Listening! Hey y'all! My baby girl heard that episode on affirmations and her reaction was "like hold up! tag me in" LOL..so I interviewed my absolute favorite guest on this week's episode. I speak life over her every night before she goes to bed and these are just a snippet of our usual routine. It's so important to cultivate the sense of empowerment in our babies before the world tries to convince them to shrink.

Thanks for listening! What other affirmations would you add to this list? Send me a DM and I'll shout you out!

I know most of the time we explore life beyond our roles as Mommies, but I had to get this one off! Why did no one warn me about the trials and tribulations  of parenting far away from your familial community? Maybe I'm being a little exaggerative but this is really is a discussion that we should have before our 4 year olds start throwing blocks at our head on a 5 day break from school.....I'm just sayin'. Somebody send help & if you're a transplant parent, also send tips that can be added to what I shared in this episode, lol! Thanks for listening!

Virgos, our time is here! Happy Monday y'all! My birthday is this week so I shifted from our usual flow of things to chat it up with you about some things on my heart and mind as this new chapter loads. Trigger Warning: This podcast episode discusses childhood harm that I and others have experienced. Please listen at your own discretion.

You have to love how the Holy Spirit just ramshacks your plans, lol....this episode got real deep, real fast and believe it or not, this was not the original plan! However, when God tells me to move, I move (just like that...sorry I had to do it!) and I know this was a message we needed to hear. If you are someone who has experienced harm as a child, I want you to know that you are more than what that trauma wants you to believe you are. I pray that you allow yourself to release the hurt and shame that so easily engulfs us when we're at our most vulnerable. There's more to life. There's more LIFE. My prayer is for you to LIVE. The season of love is upon us! Last season, we discussed different perspectives of marriage & love from my Hubby, Roger & Tiffane Gayle, and from my girlfriends Shannon & Kristen. Friendships are super important to me, and while I love the concept of romancing and celebrating in a relationship, I also deeply cherish my close girlfriends!!! In celebration of "Galentine’s Day", I used this opportunity to chat with one of my closest friends and college roommate, Janell Marie! The conversation got so good that we ran out of time, but I think it'll spark some things you'll want to discuss with your own circle of friends this Galentine's Day.
