A good example we have of loyalty would be die hard sports fans. They spend all their time checking stats, watching games, and researching players in the off season. Sometimes they’re even ready to fight a fan of a rival team to defend the honor of their own. In today’s message, Pastor Tom very seriously reminds us that when we convert to Christianity, we’re pledging our loyalty to Christ as Lord of our life. We’re saying that everything we say, do, and think from this point on is going to be for Him.
Have you ever been to a grand opening before? Usually they have all kinds of things for the whole family: fun, food, games, and prizes for everyone. There might be a line to wait in, but other than that, everyone gets something. All you have to do is show up. In today’s message, Pastor Tom teaches us that for everyone who walks through the door of salvation, there’s a prize they’ll receive. The prize is the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is given by God to all who put their faith in Jesus Christ for salvation.
Death is certain for everyone. The percentage of people who die is still 100 percent. The reality that for all the marvels in modern medicine, we still can’t make you live forever. Does that make you think about what happens after death? In today’s message, Pastor Tom teaches us that death is the requirement for sin. But Jesus paid that debt. Jesus wasn’t just an ordinary man, but in fact, was God in human flesh. This means that his death was sufficient to pay for your sins to give you eternal life.
Financial debt is all too commonly known to many households. It’s a struggle that most people experience at some point in their lives, and then many just don’t know how to handle it. Some people live with it for their entire lives, passing it onto their children. In today’s message, Pastor Tom teaches us about how because of our sin, we are indebted to God. The Bible teaches us that the payment for sin is death. However, God offers us forgiveness for ours sins, but only because He’s willing to pay the price Himself.
Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Of course this is an age old debate that has little to no consequence, but it still brings us to consider the difference between cause and effect. For every action, there is an opposite and equal reaction. We’ve all learned this. In today’s message, Pastor Tom teaches us that water baptism isn’t something we do to earn salvation, but it’s an act we do in response to it. Have you been saved from your sins? Good. Then naturally you should want to obey the word of God by being baptized.
Can you imagine if driver’s licenses were given out on a group basis? Just pile a bunch of people in a van, let the leader take the test, and then if they pass, driver’s licenses for everyone! That’s insane. Some things must be done on an individual basis. In today’s message, Pastor Tom teaches us all about water baptism for believers in Christ. Just like each individual must themselves repent of their sins, baptism must also occur on an individual basis. You yourself must be the one that fulfills this ordinance.
How many mistakes can young people avoid just by learning from the experience of older generations? You know they say that history is forgotten or ignored, it is destined to repeat itself? The same is true even from one generation to the next. In today’s message, Pastor Tom teaches us that today is the day to repent. The sooner we do, the better off we’ll be. Are you willing to learn from those that have gone before you? That it’s not worth it to run from God. The sooner you turn to Him, the better off you’ll be.
When you plant a certain type of seed, you get that same type of plant. You’re not going to plant tomato seeds and end up with okra. That’s ridiculous. On the same token, if the wrong type of seeds get planted, like for weeds, then guess what you’re gonna get. In today’s message, Pastor Tom teaches us how crucial it is for the word of God to be planted in our lives to produce godliness in us. There are so many other things that can be planted in our hearts. We must repent of those and allow God’s word to take root.
When did you know you needed a Savior? The thing about being saved is that you first need to know that you’re lost. You need to know that you’re in need before you ask for help. Everyone on this planet is headed for judgement unless and until they call on the name of Jesus. But when you call on His name, He is faithful and true, and He will rescue you. In today’s message, Pastor Tom is going to discuss the need for truth telling when you share the Gospel with the people around you.
I think it’s time to regain the sense of joy of a heart that is converted to following Jesus. When one person changes direction and follows Christ, instead of their own path, there’s a great joy and celebration in Heaven. When’s the last time you participated in that kind of celebration over a life made new? In today’s message, Pastor Tom is going to celebrate and explore conversion. It’s a foreign concept for our world, but it’s a crucial one in the life of a believer.

In this sermon, Peter spoke about the resurrection of Jesus Christ that was foretold by the prophets hundreds of years before. But today, we are going to see that the most impactful, vital truth about the Resurrection is that it was featured in prophesy, but that it happened! Jesus was raised from the dead, and because of that, everything changed for you and me. Because Jesus was raised, you too will be raised to new life.
Do you think of your life in terms of chapters or seasons? You might be in the summer of your life, or the middle chapters, or you might be coming close to the end of the book, living our your winter years. You’re looking at the final chapter, or the end of the year. But in today’s message, Pastor Tom has a totally different idea for you. Death isn’t the last chapter of your story. In fact, a whole new story begins when this life ends. You may die in the winter of your life, but the next spring will be brand new.
Jesus didn’t just die. If he died like everyone else, there would be no story to tell. There would be no difference between Jesus and everyone who had come before him. No, he didn’t just die. Jesus died and rose again from the grave. Death could not keep him, and today, Pastor Tom is going to show you why the bodily, historic, testified, and confirmed resurrection of Jesus proves once and for all that He is the Messiah. He is the Eternal Son of God. The resurrection of Jesus changes everything.
When Peter spoke to the Jews at Pentecost, and convinced them that Jesus is the Christ, he then showed them how the crucifixion of Jesus was a part of God’s plan for the Messiah since the beginning. Jesus cooperated with God’s plan and laid down his life willingly. In today’s message, Pastor Tom is going to dive into God’s plan of salvation, but he’s also going to ask you this question, “Are you willing to submit yourself to God’s plan for your life? Even when it gets uncomfortable?”
When it comes to the miracles of Jesus, there isn’t any question that they happened. Even the people who called for his crucifixion acknowledged his miracles. In today’s message, Pastor Tom is going to show how Peter used the life of Christ to show that Jesus was the one and only Messiah who they’d been waiting for. God’s Word is always true, and what He says will happen, will happen. If you’ve ever been to a busy city with crowds of people everywhere, you’ll know it can be very chaotic, especially if there’s some sort of big commotion. It can be very confusing and disturbing in a setting like this. However, as Pastor Tom teaches us today, when the Holy Spirit stirred up the church to speak in tongues, it had the opposite effect. When they spoke in tongues praising God, it drew the peoples’ attention to Him. It must’ve been a wonderful event to have witnessed.
Remember that one time when God destroyed humanity with a flood, except for Noah, his family, and a boatful of animals? Do you remember the rainbow God sent as a reminder of His promise that it would never happen again? In today’s message, Pastor Tom teaches us about the sign of the Holy Spirit and the promise it assures us of. The Holy Spirit living inside of you is the sign of the promise that you’ll spend eternity with God. If you’ve put your faith in Christ, then your eternity is sealed with the Holy Spirit.
In the Old Testament, we hear about the Holy Spirit coming alongside a person for a time in order to help them accomplish a certain work for God. But in those days, He didn’t stay with them after the job was complete. In today’s message, Pastor Tom teaches us that after Christ came, He sent the Holy Spirit to live inside of those who put their faith in Him. When the Holy Spirit comes to make His home inside of you, He lives there forever, not just for one task, but for the rest of eternity.
Have you ever watched people go by and wondered about their life? Some things are obvious about a person, just by observing them, like a wedding ring on a finger, mud on someone’s boots, or a business suit and a briefcase. Just by seeing those things, you can at least tell something about a person’s life. Pastor Tom teaches us in today’s message, that when someone’s full of the Holy Spirit, you can tell! We forever have access to the same powerful Holy Spirit that Jesus himself had. What an incredible truth. Peter had faith and conviction in the weight and value of the word of God. So much so, that he depended on it as he led the people. Don’t just be sorry for your past mistakes, but do a complete turn around and let God lead your days, as Pastor Tom shares with us today.
Scripture was Peter’s go-to when there was an issue that he needed to talk about with other believers. Remember the man who betrayed Jesus? Well, everyone knew what had happened, and it was Peter who reminded them that God is effectual no matter what. Scripture is good for instruction, rebuking, convicting, and correcting. As a church leader, Peter stood by these truths. Do you have a lighthearted attitude toward the word of God? Don’t. This is the encouragement we hear from Pastor Tom today.
From the apostles that were handpicked by God, we have much to learn. From praying and their obedience to God, we see how important it is to believe in the common mission of telling others about Jesus. The apostles had to work together. Maybe you’ve heard of Judas Iscariot, who was the one who was payed to betray Jesus. Well, he had been one of the twelve original apostles, and now there was a problem. This called for some leadership. Today, Pastor Tom talks about Peter filling that role.
The Bible is full of cases where we see obedient, prayerful witnesses testifying to the saving power of Jesus. But, we must obey what God tells us to do. Satan will try to fool you into thinking that you know better than the Creator of the universe. The hard fact is you don’t.
The disciples believed that God would fill them with His Spirit and power to accomplish the task of sharing the story of Jesus with others. Pastor Tom speaks today of the women that were there, too, fully trusting God that they too had a role of sharing Jesus. They got involved. Will you copy the faithfulness of these individuals?
God designed the starting point of the early Church to be an example that we can learn from and do ourselves. The starting point was normal men and women understanding the importance of obeying and doing it together. God told them to wait in Jerusalem for the power of the Holy Spirit. But as Pastor Tom points out today, they didn’t sit and twiddle their thumbs. They stayed, prayed, and made decisions, and believed. Can you imagine being one of them to share first hand experiences of the life and resurrection of Jesus?
Although the Ascension is a real event that happened in the past, it has implications for us today, and even into the future. One of those implications is that because Jesus physically rose to Heaven, he is also going to physically come back to earth. Today, Pastor Tom teaches us how the Ascension is a foreshadowing of the second coming. Jesus will come back to the same place, in the same manner, riding on the clouds. Will he find you doing His work or distracted by the things of this world.
Nothing puts a fearful child more at ease than knowing their parent is with them. The darkest nights and scariest noises can be dealt with if mom or dad are near. It probably felt like that to the disciples, too. When Jesus was near, everything was okay. So when it was time for him to ascend to Heaven, it would be easy for fear set in. But as Pastor Tom shows us today, it was actually better when Jesus left, because he was not leaving them alone. He was giving them the Holy Spirit, who would be with them always.
Have you ever stopped to think just how incredible the ascension of Jesus is? Jesus could have been taken up into Heaven in any manner he wanted. He could have just disappeared with a snap of his fingers, or gone away in the middle of the night with no one around. But he was taken up in the day, before the disciples’ eyes, in a physical manner. Why? Today, Pastor Tom shows us that this way he had eyewitnesses to testify to the validity and uniqueness of the event. It was unlike anything that had ever happened.
An eyewitness account is only as credible as the witness. When it’s one person’s word against another, you will believe the person you trust more. Today, as Pastor Tom looks at the ascension of Jesus, he shows us that there was not just one eyewitness to this event. This event is not just one person’s word against another. It’s all the disciples who saw Jesus rise to Heaven. As Luke has plainly told us here, this is a real event that really happened, just as he documented. This source is credible.
When is the last time you said something? For many of us, evangelizing is intimidating. In today’s message, Pastor Tom urges you to say something despite your fears, despite your discomfort. Fight what you think the outcome may be. It’s not up to us whether someone gets saved or not. That’s the job of the Holy Spirit. It’s our job to share the truth about who Christ is with others. We are commanded to witness about who Jesus is and what He has done for us. Who is someone who needs to hear about Jesus today?
The disciples who spread Christianity were first hand witnesses to Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. In today’s message from Pastor Tom, you will hear about how we are called to be witnesses, and what we are witnessing to others about: the eyewitness testimonies of Jesus’ followers. These men saw with their own eyes and touched Jesus with their own hands after he was resurrected from the dead. We are to continue to spread their gospel message with confidence that it is truth.
After the resurrection, the disciples asked Jesus if it was now time for the kingdom to be restored to Israel. Many theologians have criticized this question, saying that the disciples completely misunderstood the Kingdom. In today’s message from Pastor Tom however, you will hear why this question was actually a relevant and valid question for them to ask Jesus. He argues that if it was not, Jesus would’ve made that very clear because he spent much of his time teaching about this coming kingdom.
What comes to your mind when you hear the phrase, “kingdom of God?” Is it something that we’re a part of now? Or is it still yet to come? Where is it? Who’s invited to it? In today’s message from Pastor Tom, you’ll hear much more about the kingdom of God and how we can participate in it. You’ll learn why it was the most frequent topic that Jesus taught about during his time on Earth. We have a calling right now to anticipate the coming Kingdom and to be witnesses of it to those who do not yet know the Lord.
The historic descent of the Holy Spirit is not taught about as often as the death and resurrection of Jesus. As you will hear Pastor Tom teach in today’s message, Jesus’ mission was to baptize us with the Holy Spirit. This part of his mission was just as important as his death and resurrection. He told his disciples that it is to our advantage that he leave so that we can receive the Holy Spirit, the Advocate. If you have placed your faith in Jesus like the disciples, you too have received the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Many view death as the end. Final. Tragic. As Christians, we know that death is just the beginning. In today’s message, Pastor Tom unpacks the implications that Jesus’ life, death, burial, and resurrection have for us. We are not only given eternal life when we believe in Him, but we are also invited to be a part of His kingdom now. Is that hard for you to believe? Today, you will hear historical evidence for how we know for sure that Jesus Christ lived, was killed and then resurrected three days later.
It would be really easy to slide on past what Pastor Tom says today, but don’t make that mistake. He said if God created the universe, and he did, then miracles are not only possible but are to be expected. Do you expect miracles? Do you expect God to reach into human history and do impossible things? Our whole faith is based on God reaching into human history. Come along today and learn how God created the Church by reaching into human history and doing the impossible through miracles.
Do you ever look back through the accounts in the gospels and think, “If only I could’ve been alive when Jesus was on Earth?” We often link our intangible faith to the things we can see, hear, and touch, just like Thomas, who doubted the resurrection until he saw Jesus. In today’s message, Pastor Tom is going to show us the work of the Spirit inside of us is greater than even physically walking with Jesus. You have access to a greater power because the Spirit of the living God is living within you.
Pastor Tom is diving into the book of Acts. The historical book outlining the beginning of the church. Before he ascended, Jesus told his disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit. Once they received the Spirit, they preached and taught boldly in the name of Jesus. And the church added people every day. Without an understanding of the Spirit, it’s impossible to understand the power that moved the church forward right at the beginning. The Spirit is the key to the whole history of the church.
People leave the church. They walk away from faith. It’s sad, but it’s reality. So what are you going to do about it? Today, as Pastor Tom wraps up this study in the book of James, you’ll get an idea of what God expects. You’ll be asked to go after them. If you know someone who’s fallen, go help pick them up. Call them up. Love them, and tell them the truth. It may not be easy. It may not yield the result you hoped for. Do it anyway. Obey the Lord and help bring His sheep back to the fold.
What would it take for you to turn your back on Jesus? Your immediate answer is probably, “Nothing!” That’s what believers want to believe about themselves, but take a moment. Look at our world. Look at people who you thought were sold out, on fire believers and followers of Christ. Some of these people have in fact walked away. Pastor Tom doesn’t want to scare you with this today, but instead he wants you to take a hard look at your faith and allow the Lord to strengthen it.
Do your prayers lack heat? Do you pray with earnestness, expectancy and faith? In today’s message, Pastor Tom teaches about the time the Old Testament prophet Elijah prayed for rain for lands that had been in drought for three and a half years. He prayed with great passion, fully expecting God to answer. We are called to do the same. Elijah wasn’t unique or specially chosen to have his prayer answered. You have the exact same powerful weapon that Elijah used... prayer. It’s time to wield it.
Who are the people you pray for most often? Most likely close family, friends and yourself. In today’s message, Pastor Tom challenges you to zoom out your prayer life a bit. Look beyond those closest to you. Of course it’s great to cover your family and friends in prayer, but also be sure to be praying for your local churches, country and missionaries serving in faraway lands. Pray for those who don’t know the Lord. Pray for those who do to remain strong in their faith. Love others by praying for them.
Is there a sin that you keep hidden away from others? Perhaps it’s an attitude, an action, or an addiction. In today’s message, Pastor Tom uses the example of King David’s confession of sin. You will hear why confessing your sin to trusted believers is important, and you’ll hear examples of how you can confess to God and others. It’s not easy to open up about issues you struggle with, but by doing so you’ll be able to have accountability, allowing for healing and a change of direction.
Could your prayer life use some improvement? You are not alone. In today’s message, Pastor Tom teaches from the book of James about the power and importance of having a robust prayer life. It’s not only important that you are spending time in prayer in private, but also that you’re participating in corporate prayer with your congregation. Prayer is useful for any and every situation you can find yourself in. Take time today to utilize this powerful tool that God has given us to communicate with Him.
How often do you look at others and their actions? Are you elated when they confess to doing wrong? What about you? Pastor Tom speaks about how sometimes the human race will excuse their own actions while being glad that someone else fessed up to theirs. This is not the way to live abundantly. It will negatively affect your life. Prayer is needed for healing the sick, for healing the mindset that tells you you don’t need to change your ways. Do you have faith that your prayers will be answered?
The writer of Psalms prays to Jesus and asks Him to not forget those who are suffering. Just like we are supposed to pray in those hard times, prayer is more important when things are going well. Continuing looking at prayer as a lifeline for all who have faith in God is where we find ourselves with Pastor Tom today. We can overcome our discouragement when the rains of life keep pouring down, if we focus our eyes on Jesus in prayer. Another advantage of honest praying and believing is growing closer to God.
Have you prayed about it? This was a common question I heard growing up when I was having trouble with decisions. And yes, even when I couldn’t find something. Today, Pastor Tom talks about heavier kinds of difficulties, but also tells us that God works in those hard situations. Praying helps build our faith muscles, so the next time something hits us we’re not weak. A deeper relationship with our Father follows an active prayer life. There’s hope because of Jesus. He will see you through.
We have all found ourselves in situations where what we say is questioned. This should not be. Pastor Tom gives you thinking nuggets today as he works out what could be behind lies and how we can be trustworthy persons in our speech. Remember that Jesus has overcome this world. You and I must cling to this when tempted to speak words we know aren’t right.
Pastor Tom’s message today gives clarity to oath taking in Bible times. Think of today’s court of law. You swear that everything you say is true. It was the same back then. Vows were a way of testifying to the truth. God was even used in these kinds of exchanges as a way to have accountability in what they said. While the Jewish people of the day lost the real reason for doing this, promising started to be an “oh well” kind of thing. James tells us to take no part in such a nonchalant frame of mind concerning this.
Times change. Back in the day, handshakes meant more than just a handshake. Your word was your bond, as the expression goes. Pastor Tom explores this idea of liars and people of honesty. Think about everyday conduct in business, in jobs, at home. Liars are everywhere, unfortunately. They have something that would be advantageous to them, so in order to get it, they compromise principle. Jesus had something to say about that, as James does. Don’t promise unless you aim to keep it.
The third and last helpful nugget to persevere and give credit to God’s faithfulness throughout this life is explained today by Pastor Tom. You and I have been given many examples of what and how people organize their life in a manner that testified Jesus’ promise of return. Why not do what they did? It’d be like having a study guide of incorporating those Godly characteristics: patience, no grumbling, into our lives. He is first. Everything else should come second. Let’s be bold together.

No one and no thing will help us get to the place we need to be, Patience and a strong heart will. I’ve always been described as a patient person, but when the going gets tough, I’m not. Children needing to be fed. dishes piling up, laundry smelling... all these things can be so frustrating. You’ve got another flat! It’s at this point that you probably realize that things aren’t going according to your plan for the day. Are you ready to deny earthly satisfaction so that your relinquished life points to Jesus?
Resignation of your own self to the will and authority of someone else is a hard thing. When you accept the ultimate gift of Jesus’ sacrifice, you are told to place yourself under His jurisdiction, as Pastor Tom states today. The world considers this silly, but it is vitally important, and it comes from having a close relationship with God. How do you submit? By reading the Bible and knowing His truth. It’s relieving to know that you don’t have to go in search for what He wants you to do. Just listen to what He says.
True colors. They really come out sometimes, don’t they? In all circumstances with everyone, it should become a never ending quest to become more like Jesus, and one of the biggest way to take that journey is through humility, as Pastor Tom tells you today, How many of you have seen irresponsibility or maybe a shifting of blame to someone else. Be encouraged to examine your life for any prideful, jealous behavior. And step away forever. No one can do this but you. And only through God’s favor on your life.
Pride. Certainty. Boastful. Humble. Two of these characteristics should be adopted by anyone who has believed in the saving name of Jesus. Pastor Tom outlines what you can look for to see humbleness in yourself and others. Do you see a pleasant demeanor? Someone who owns their failures? Non-existent ego mentality? Certainty that Jesus takes care of your needs. Friends, you’ve gotta do some heart surgery to grow close to Jesus. You have to silence any and all prideful action or thought.
In today’s culture, marriage is being totally redefined. But Pastor Tom describes it today in light of the passionate journey of making Jesus your all in all: being completely and wholeheartedly sold out to His convictions, denying what you want, admitting when you’re wrong, not wishing for what this earth has to offer, and committing to deal with your desires as opposed to recognizing God’s. In the end this present world will all fade away. It won’t last. So who are you married to? Jesus or the world?
Fondness. Affection. Intimacy. These are all words that should be describing a near and dear to you type of relationship. Do these words tell of your relationship with Jesus? Pastor Tom reiterates today that you cannot walk well when your feet are trying to take two different paths. Either you believe in God and all the hope that comes with His name, or you confirm the influence of what the world considers right. The Bible tells you that this world’s ways will only lie to you and lead to ruin. You don’t want that.
Set apart. Be in the world, not of the world. Have you heard these phrases before? Make a choice. Will you be a friend or foe to Jesus while making this earth your home? Today, Pastor Tom continues contrasting materialistic avenues that drain any attempts to be humble and giving, to be like Jesus. A worldly lie gets planted in your soul that there’s no time for prayer. Have you ever felt this way? Heartfelt prayer must come from lining up your desires with that of God’s.
Don’t give up. Do not give up. Have you ever coached yourself like this? Blessings come through hardships, when your right to self is yielded to Jesus. And what a relief that is. Today, Pastor Tom continues describing how things and the thinking of this world will negatively affect the condition of the heart. He also discusses what you may have been wondering, why aren’t my prayers being answered? What’s the motive behind your prayers? Are they aligned with your desires? Or God’s?
Admitting that you struggle inwardly with jealousy and discontentment is a very hard acknowledgment. Especially when, by all appearances, you’ve got it together. Today, the root of worldliness is described by Pastor Tom. Envy. This very word, and all it is, will end up eating you alive. Do you think that when you get what you’ve been striving for, there will no longer be emptiness? It’s a vicious circle that ruins relationships and drives anger. This is personal selfishness. Friends, deal with this.
t’s like a craving for chocolate that you just can’t resist. You have to have it right now. If you don’t, you’ll just go crazy. But as soon as you get a hold of that chocolate and devour it faster than you can imagine, you still find yourself feeling empty and wanting more. This is the type of feeling that Pastor Tom is expressing today, as he teaches on a desire inside of you that can’t be satisfied by the things of this world. There’s something within you that wants more, but you need to look to God.
There are certain viruses that aren’t visible from the outside. They eat away at you from within, and cause your body to become diseased. Today, Pastor Tom is speaking about the disease of worldliness. This is something that’s not so obvious, because it’s rooted in your heart and what your motivations are. Some might assume worldliness is referring to what you wear or how you present yourself. But truly, it’s a matter of the heart.
If a vine were to catch fire, the entire vineyard could be burned down, ruined because of the damaging flames. What if something were to catch fire in a good way? What if you were open and vulnerable, and being that way helped others to do the same? Today, Pastor Tom is saying that if more people were vulnerable and shared their struggles, sharing their weaknesses, there would be more openness in relationships. By doing this, the church as a whole would actually be healthier.
If you’re looking for virtues that are long lasting, there’s one person that you should look to as a perfect example of these things. Pastor Tom’s teaching today discusses how Jesus displayed the perfect mixture of virtues that when added up, equal true wisdom. So instead of wanting to be wise in the world’s eyes, how about caring what it looks like to be wise in God’s eyes? How do you treat people? How do you speak of others? If you are not careful to discern true wisdom, you will be fooled, as Pastor Tom speaks about today. There is wisdom that comes from above, and wisdom that comes from the pit of Hell. One brings people together for sharing Jesus’ love, while the other divides. One has consequences, while the other delivers order. Godly wisdom doesn’t have a hint of arrogance or pride. It’s gentle in matter.
Pastor Tom today discusses two completely opposite places that wisdom comes from. On one end, you have a wisdom that’s gentle, that shows good deeds, that’s a lifestyle. Tipping the scale is the wisdom that comes from self: selfish ambition, pride, and arrogance. The question is, do you chase after Godly wisdom or reap consequences from an earthly wisdom?
The whole point of the Christian life is to live for Jesus, right? To follow his example is how you live. What happens when the bumps come in, dealing with other people?Pastor Tom today speaks about the kind of wisdom that Jesus shows in the Bible. God has provided us a clear picture of gentleness, which shows us how wise he really was. Pastor Tom reminds us that Moses was praised for being humble. Strenth, under control. Will you be humble enough to know wisdom comes from God, not yourself?
We all know the saying, “Actions speak louder than words.” This is the theme of what James says when you are trying to figure out if someone is truly wise. Jealousy. It’s a word you know, but not one you’d want to label yourself with. Think about it. When you see someone else with blessings you want, it rears its ugly head. It’s likely even more true when you don’t think the other person deserves the favor. Today, Pastor Tom will remind you that God doesn’t pick favorites. He has a plan for you too. While you’re waiting to find out what that is, don’t let jealousy overtake your thoughts and interactions. Be thankful for what the Lord has given you and pray for others.
Every person you meet is made in God’s image. From the oldest man to the youngest girl, every race and skin tone, height and weight, everyone is God’s image bearer. So why do we tend to treat others differently? Pastor Tom will talk today about how much God loves each individual you meet, including you. He’ll also remind you that if you love God and are praising His name, you also should be modeling His love to others. Don’t speak ill of anyone else, but pray for them instead.

In a world full of churches with different rules, it can be hard to know if you’re truly saved. Does baptism save you? Are you saved by a certain prayer? Does a denomination get the final say? When you see God begin to change you inwardly, that’s when you know you’re truly saved. And only Jesus can make those changes.
Faith and works. Are they important? Can you have one without the other? In James 2:14, we read, “What good is it brothers if someone says he has faith, but does not have works, can that faith save him?” In today’s message, Pastor Tom reminds you of the importance of both faith and works. Works without faith is dead. But faith without works is also dead. True faith is an active and living thing. True faith lives as Christ lived: loving and giving and teaching.

He made Himself visible to us so that we could have the opportunity to know His glory.

This may come as a shock to you, but false teaching is still a problem today. You can find it on the internet, in conversations with people who seem to know what they’re talking about, and you can even find it in churches. The key to finding a church that teaches the true Jesus, as Pastor Tom will share today, is to look at how these people define him. Do they believe the Scripturally based principles of faith? If so, they might just be someone you want to learn from. And if not, you need to run the other way.
False teaching about Jesus was a major problem in the new church that you read about in the New Testament. However, as you’ll learn today, this teaching didn’t die away as the years went on, rather, it strengthened. Today, Pastor Tom will be taking you through a variety of unbiblical versions of Jesus and Christianity, pointing out the ways in which they can’t be supported by Scripture. You are called to be doers of the Word. This means you are called to live out your faith with actions, love, mercy and sacrifice. Yes, this is a great challenge. But if your faith is genuine, your life must resemble Christ, in whom you believe. Today, Pastor Tom will encourage you to seek others to help and find people to love. Even if you feel nervous or unqualified, take steps to grow into Christ’s likeness. The Holy Spirit will enable you to do anything God calls you to do.
The works of Satan reveal who he is. The works of Christ reveal who He is. And likewise, your works reveal who YOU are. You may claim to be a believer, and you are convinced you are, but unless you live your life demonstrating your belief, your faith is useless. Today, Pastor Tom will challenge you to examine your life to determine if you are deceiving yourself. Actions that stem from faith prove that faith is real. It reveals who you are. Works will not save you. But choose to live your life as a living sacrifice for Jesus in response to His love.
Many people who bear the name Christian ignore Scripture, encourage sin, merely sit and listen to preaching, and choose to live any way they want. This of course it’s bad for that person, but it breaks down the body of Christ as well. Today, Pastor Tom will explain how works and faith go together. You can’t earn justification through works, but if you claim a relationship with Jesus, you must demonstrate your faith in the way you live.
God’s judgment on evil and sin is right and just and good. Evil deserves to be punished and it’ll be eliminated completely in eternity. Pastor Tom will explain today how sin has to be punished for a holy God to be around sinful people. As the greatest act of mercy, God sent Jesus to the cross to take the deserved judgment for sin in order to extend mercy to all who would believe in Him. If you are living your life choosing not to love or forgive others or serve others in mercy, you are choosing to allow Jesus to judge you in the same way. As a believer, you are saved by God’s gift of grace by faith in Jesus, not by trying to adhere to the Mosaic Law. Jesus ushered in freedom from the Law by fulfilling the Law himself. But as Pastor Tom will explain today, you are required to obey Christ. As a believer you will one day sit in judgement to give account for your conduct and how you fulfilled Jesus’s law of love. How do you show mercy and love? God’s grace doesn’t cancel your duty to obey Him, but it gives reason to obey.
God’s standard is holy perfection. You are guilty of breaking the whole law if you do not obey correctly even a small portion of the law. Is that fair for God to judge you this way? Yes. He’s completely just and fair in judging you guilty. Today, Pastor Tom will explain how there is no grace in the law of God, which only brings condemnation and guilt from what it exposes inside you. Yet do not despair. God sent Jesus, who is the perfect sinless Savior who died to pay for your sins on the cross. God sees you as righteous
Jesus did not come as a rival to the law of the Old Testament. He came to fulfill all the requirements of the law, explain how believers now live under grace, and to embody the purpose and meaning of the law. The lives of the rich seem appealing, exciting, pleasurable, and indulgent. In fact, it is often so appealing that the poor will overlook the character and behavior of the rich, and the emptiness of that life just to seek after it. However, as Pastor Tom will remind you today, that life of glitter and thrills is truly insecure and hollow. God does not acknowledge or honor the rich. He in fact favors the poor, choosing them to be rich in faith, and receive all the benefits of an eternal inheritance.
Do you strive unceasingly for more and more treasure, prestige, and importance? Do you long to increase your financial security at the cost of your faith? This is folly in the eyes of God. By doing this you miss out on the incredible abundant inheritance of the kingdom of God promised through Jesus. Today, Pastor Tom will teach how much better it is to be rich in faith in Christ than rich in money. Instead of focusing on storing treasures here on earth, store your treasure: time, money, love, on the things of the kingdom of God.
If you were to choose a team to win, you’d choose the strong, smart, and powerful people. It’s an easy choice. According to the world’s values, those are the people who will bring success and victory. However, as Pastor Tom points out today, these are not the kind of people Jesus chose, and not who he continues to pick today. He values those who don’t fit with what the world desires, because he wants the honor and glory of their success. If he valued the rich and powerful, they’d boast in themselves for the victory.

When you are in a situation to judge, are you looking to the Lord for guidance? Pastor Tom will encourage you today to allow all determination of right and wrong in your own life come from Christ. Praise the Lord that He judges us fairly. He’s completely impartial. He upholds the law as it’s meant to be, and His punishment is equal to the crime.
