There’s a difference between helping and enabling. We know it. We say it. But somehow, some way, we find ourselves in a trap, a big ole thorny pit called enablement. In today's episode, we're examining the difference between helping and enabling and how to set healthy boundaries and rules of engagement, to build healthier relationships with the people we want to see succeed and thrive.

Do you have feelings of inadequacy? That you don't have what you want? That you've made the wrong choices or fallen short in certain areas of your life? Do you sometimes think that other people have what you want, and that makes you feel even less accomplished, satisfied, adequate, or good enough?

Do you sit back and then look at your life, social media profiles, career, marriage, family, bank account, body, relationships, home, vehicle, and children—and start comparing what you have to others?

Today's episode is going to start unpacking the differences between comparison that leads to inspiration and motivation and the type of comparison that leads to feelings of inferiority and, ultimately, depression. We will share commentary from seasoned psychologists, the leading theory that summarizes this self-evaluation we're doing, and more.

We'll present different scenarios, like comparing yourself to a random stranger on the street to comparison with a celebrity or social media influencer, how we compare ourselves to people we think are above us, equal to us, or beneath us. We'll even walk through those muddy waters of comparing the past to the present, like comparing yourself to your significant other's exes, and that's just for starters. We'll explore how the comparison trap can lead to increased and even toxic competition, shame, guilt, self-adulation, self-deprecation, anxiety, and degrees of depression.

We're going to talk about the "I'll be happy when...." fallacy, what happiness is and isn't, and some suggestions for how to positively "stay in your own lane" while celebrating and honoring other people's achievements and accomplishments, talents, and gifts.

Today's episode is focusing on workplace inconsistencies and how we can reduce and eliminate them. Whether it's inconsistencies within the employee handbook, enforcement of policies and procedures, or inconsistency with getting work done at the time, quality, attention expected, and for the intended purpose—inconsistency unravels the fabric of relationships (professional and personal).

This episode is focused on some of the layers that goes into recruiting underrepresented groups (URGs) such as those distinguished by ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, veteran status, the differently-abled, and the previously incarcerated.

We look through the historical lens and take into consideration the growing trend within companies to address Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) through creation of jobs and roles, and establishing Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), etc. We reflect back on Episode 54 when we discussed the DEIJ bandwagon, and all of the reasons why companies need to assess why they are now being proactive in seeking and establishing a diverse and inclusive workplace, even if they may not necessarily be pursuing the equity and justice needed to tear down and keep down the barriers that have created the division, inequity, and injustices in our workplaces and communities. We share some examples of what to do and what not to do when earnestly pursuing a change of this magnitude.

We sort through the various excuses that people and companies make to avoid recruiting and hiring various URGs. We share examples of bias, discrimination, and how it's important that individuals and companies audit their recruitment, hiring, promotion efforts to ensure that there is an elimination of these practices that are excluding quality and qualified candidates.

We provide tips and suggestions for companies who are contemplating making steps to cast a wider recruitment net. We also provide tips for companies that have already started but in need of pointers.

Because this is a heavy topic we are segmenting this conversation across Episodes 61 and 62.

Episode 61 breaks down two career wells or "buckets" and three basic pathways.

The most familiar and common pathway is as an employee. When you don’t want to work for a specific company but want to work for various clients so that you have greater flexibility in how and where your knowledge and skills are used and applied you pursue one of two routes:

• Entrepreneur
• Freelancer

In today's episode, we're exploring the ins and outs and some do's and don'ts of freelancing and entrepreneurship. We will address some traps and tricks, misnomers, misunderstandings, and more.

We're exploring various examples and dissecting the lessons learned, without the fluff.
This is a truth-seeking, truth-speaking, truth-living session. If you want hand-holding and coddling, then this isn't the episode for you.

In this episode, we will look at the ways that lacking self-confidence can devastate you, your business, and your entire world. We will be sharing tips, strategies, and addressing why you got stuck, are stuck, stay stuck — and how to get unstuck.

Many of us have heard and said, "the customer is always right" and with that statement comes a level of understanding that customers can do and say whatever they want, and the workers and company must comply to meet their wishes, with hopes of having a satisfied and returning customer. Today's episode is reflecting on a November 2021 blog post by Foreman & Associates, LLC that questioned if some companies are pushing heavily for Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI) positions and initiatives out of a realigned mission towards justice in all areas and walk of life or because they're just on a "let's be on the right side of history" bandwagon.

Episode 50 discusses the Do's and Don'ts of interviewing, from the perspective of the interviewer and interviewee. Natasha shares her assessment of clients and former college students she has helped through the process. She outlines:

She has served as a Public Relations Specialist, an Environmental Planner, and a Project Manager in the Transportation Industry. As HNTB’s DBE Manager, she utilizes creative and engaging strategies to raise industry awareness and diversify DBE participation in Georgia’s largest alternative delivery program. Through innovative learning sessions and business development workshops, Emmanuella and her team focus on preparing DBEs and SBEs for major works with GDOT and MARTA.

There is not one career in the world that does not need business principles to succeed.
Architect, scientist, astronaut, politician, pastor, hairstylist, barber, dentist, lawyer, doctor, construction worker, flagman, event planner, engineer, computer programmer, gamer, coder, graphic artist, seamstress, cosmetologist, athlete, entertainer, artist, etc.

K-12 education needs to be overhauled to make it real, relatable, and relevant for students now and in the future. What are we truly preparing them for? Test-taking? Scale back those tests for the love of life and sanity.

Schools removed agriculture, horticulture, home economics, and other life skills courses when one of the biggest industries in the world is agribusiness. And we have a lot of young people who grow up to be adults that lack the skills to survive and maneuver in life. They can't budget, don't know how to invest, are clueless about cooking, and can't hem a pair of pants.

People are pursuing college degrees and careers without also getting a strong business background to support their goals.
Athletes majoring in fields that they aren't prepared to pursue if their athletic career doesn't land them a multi-million dollar lifestyle.

Todays' episode looks at the current and future impact on business due to this pandemic called COVID-19. COVID-19 has made businesses face some harsh realities…they weren’t truly prepared for a crisis. We have also learned that we didn’t learn much after our last global financial crisis, which means we may slip back to stuck on stupid once we make it out of this crisis. Today's episode looks deeply at and examines how a scarcity mindset, or living in or out of a state of lack, leads to stress, anxiety, and depression. We recapped previous episodes: Episode 13 [relationships and mental health], Episode 15 [Reasons Why Businesses Fail], and Episode 17 [Supporting Entrepreneurs]. In doing so, it leads us to today's discussion and sharing the research and insights of professionals and industry whiz kids, who have identified the things that lead the culprits called stress, anxiety, and depression to clobber us.

There are quotes and analysis of commentary from John C. Maxwell, Sherry Amatenstein, Anthony Robbins, Jessica Bruder, Shikhar Ghosh, Dr. Michael Freeman, and others. We shared research from the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, Swinburne University of Technology, and Dr. John Gartner of Johns Hopkins University Medical School. We also painfully outlined several suicides of men, women, and teens around the world from 2000 to 2019. Many of them were suffering from depression.

Eboni Brown is an Administrative Professional with over 10 years’ experience. She also has over 8 years of management experience. She holds an MBA with a concentration in Public Administration, Nonprofit Organizations, and a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Project Management. She also earned a certificate as a Grant Writing Specialist, and has extensive accounting experience, including managing annual budgets; performing daily closeouts; and overseeing expenditures.

Her professional responsibilities have included: supporting multiple c-level executives and small business owners with all aspects of office management. Her greatest accomplishment includes creating, implementing, and training on standard operating procedures for an entire administrative team. Eboni is fueled by a desire to learn, solve problems, and get the job done—the right way. She has excellent relationship building abilities; demonstrated strengths in interviewing, hiring and training employees; is highly organized and efficient; and has a strong ability to multitask. She has prior work experience as an office manager, accounting coordinator, executive assistant, customer service coordinator, and sales manager.

Eboni is very active in the community, serving in various roles within the Girl Scouts of America organization from 2003-2010 and as a current member of: Toastmasters International, Project Management Institute, My Sisters Keeper, and other global, national and local organizations.
