Dr. Timothy DiGiacomo is the Clinical Director for Mountain Valley Treatment Center, a short-term residential program for adolescents and young adults struggling with anxiety and OCD. Tim is a licensed psychologist who has served as Clinical and Adjunct faculty for the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, New England College and Franklin Pierce University, and as a consultant for several schools. Tim has presented at regional and national conferences on anxiety and OCD including at ADAA and IOCDF. Tim is a graduate of the Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology and completed his internship and fellowship at Dartmouth Medical School.

In this episode of We R H.O.P.E. “Breaking the Stigma Through Change” Sean will tackle the issue of mental health and illness in hip hop. The communities of color have strayed away from this topic for far to long. People like Justin King are coming out of the shadows to be open, honest and vulnerable about their experiences. Justin’s music isn’t about drugs and alcohol or even about how much money he has but rather about his real-life experiences of love, pain, loss and fear. He is an inspiration to a generation of youth who need something REAL to hold on to. We will find out how HOPE has inspired not only his music but his life. We will dive into some of his tracks and break down the meaning and vulnerability that it took to write and share these songs with the world.

On this episode of We R H.O.P.E. Breaking The Stigma Through Change. We will be speaking with Oryx Cohen. He's the Chief Operating Officer of The National Empowerment Center and the Co-Founder of The Freedom Center. Oryx will discuss his lived experience, Emotional CPR , Mental Health, Trauma and Extreme states. Oryx will also discuss survivors of Psychiatry and the documentary Healing Voices that he not only stared in but co-produced. Oryx’s love, compassion and empathy to share the message of hope through his lived experience is unmatched. He brings a unique perspective to mental illness but more importantly solutions and real supports.

Dan will describe the essential aspects of recovering his life through a lived experience of recovery from a severe mental health condition. He will also share his experiences as a peer, a family member, a researcher, a psychiatrist and an advocate. In each dimension of lived experience, Dan has learned the importance of connecting at an emotional level as a bridge across diverse beliefs and roles. Dan and several other peers started the National Empowerment Center in 1992 and helped define the components of recovery. During the last 11 years, Dan and a team of 20+ peers have been developing emotional CPR as a means of implementing the lessons of recovery and peer support for the whole community. Through connecting at a heart-to-heart level and respecting each others humanity, we can help others and ourselves experience Connection, emPowerment and Revitalization. When a community embraces these values all members contribute to each others' recovery.
