The Obesity and overweight epidemic is one of the biggest public health issues. And the increased risk factors for various types of health conditions are staggering.
This is one of my pet peeves: I don’t have time to cook. It takes so long to go grocery shopping. Let me tell you the truth. We DON’T have time, some of us MAKE time. We all get 24 hrs in a day, no one gets 26 or 22.
Today I will point to the obvious: There are many Consequences to Not Making Time for Your Health Now.

Breaking Free: Ditching the Diet Mindset- Part 2
Welcome to Healthy 4 Life, the podcast where we challenge conventional wisdom and explore new perspectives on health and wellness. I'm Dr. Laleh and today we’ll continue to talk about a topic that affects many of us: ditching the diet mindset and embracing healthy eating every day.
Let's start by addressing the elephant in the room: diets. We've all been there, trying the latest fad diet, hoping it will finally be the solution to our health and weight struggles. But how often do these diets work in the long run? The truth is, they often lead to a cycle of short-term extreme restriction, guilt, and ultimately, failure.
Let's start by acknowledging something important: diets often promise quick fixes, but rarely deliver long-term results. They create a cycle of restriction and guilt, leading to a negative relationship with food and body image. So, why do we keep falling into this trap?
In the fast-paced world we inhabit, our lifestyle choices play a pivotal role in shaping our health outcomes. As we strive for balance, it is essential to consider the profound impact our habits can have on preventing diseases, especially cancer.
Register for my Webinar on December 16th: " Revolutionize your Resolution"
There is a good reason why our cavemen and cavewomen ancestors never dieted, intentionally fasted, cut out meat, fat, or carbs, drank their meals in a juice or took meal replacements in a can or bottle.
During this webinar, I will unveil the secrets of the ancient human evolutionary diet.
This webinar is for YOU if you want to boost energy, trim down, and conquer your day, the ancestral way- NEVER diet again!
Today, we're delving into a topic that's close to my hearts: ditching the diet mindset and embracing a healthy lifestyle. Let's break free from the cycle of restriction and guilt and pave the way for a sustainable and fulfilling approach to well-being.
The holiday season is a time for joy, togetherness, and celebration. It's a time when family and friends gather, traditions are upheld, and, of course, delicious food takes center stage. However, for those trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle, the holidays can also be a time of trepidation. The abundance of indulgent, calorie-laden dishes and the pressure to partake in cherished, but often unhealthy, traditions can make it challenging to stay on track. Today, I will share some strategies for surviving the unhealthy holiday foods and traditions while still enjoying the season to its fullest.
Today, I want to talk to you about cancer. A topic that hits home for many of us.
Almost all of us know at least one person who has lost the battle with cancer. I am certain that, like me, most of you have known many more than one, and many of you listening may be cancer survivors. So this should peak everyone’s interest.

Summer is my favorite season and July is my favorite month. I LOVE it because it is still early in the warm and summer season and I get to be outside and enjoy Mother nature.
AND I think it is a very meaningful holiday.
Often times, people present their excuses as barriers to eating healthy. But there is a HUGE difference between barriers and excuses.
I am asking this because more than 50% of adults in the United States set a new year’s resolutions but VERY few actually keep them and most of them don’t last beyond February 15th.
There are no secrets, no magic pills, no shakes, no tricks, or easy way out to your health. The Magic is YOU!!
“Calling it a cheat immediately brings/ implies guilt. NOT and emotion you want associated with food!”
This is a popular question; there is a lot of confusion about carbs in general and as you have heard me say, there are MANY “diets” with as many misleading information about foods in general but especially about carbs.
Do you suffer from an unsolved health mystery that no one can solve??

In the past few weeks, I have been talking about surviving the holidays. Last week, I talked about lessons learned from the thanksgiving holiday. Some of your responses and reactions has inspired me to stay on this topic at least for one more week.
This is a very controversial topic, highly debated, and VERY much promoted by certain group of scientists and food manufacturers. The new and HOT vegan diet debate OR the Plant-based diet.
I am going to start by a recap of what WE, humans, are supposed to be as species.
I am sure you have seen and heard of Holiday Survival Tips, online and from many experts. I used to have the same tips for many years.
I will start by saying that I really hope these new words do not become a part of our normal vocabulary.
Let’s start by some basic definitions:
Stress: This is your body’s reaction to any change around you that requires a response. This can be physical, emotional, or mental response.
Biological response to stress: This is what happens in your body to respond to stress. So what are some of these biological responses?
Hormonal response: There are few major hormones that are affected as a result of stress
On many occasions, I get this question from my clients:
“At what age should I start teaching my kids to eat healthy the way to want me to eat?”
How many times a week do you find yourself saying: I don’t have time? How many times a day do you say: I lost track of time? How often do you actually think about time? How many times in your lifetime have you thought: I wish I had made the time?
Hearing this comment has the same effect on me every time: it raises my blood pressure and if you happen to be near me, you will see the expression on my face and let me tell you, it is NOT a pretty expression at all.
In the last 2 episodes, I talked about Holiday season and all the stress that accompanies the “season”.
One major stressor, after financial stress, is losing control of your health.
This is actually more important in my mind.
First, let me make a confession: I am an exercise addict, a PROUD exercise addict. I LOVE exercising and I cannot imagine a time when I cannot exercise. If I have one hour and I can do anything I want what would it be?? Ride my bike, OR if that is not possible: Exercise.
Do you find that you need to punish yourself after a vacation?? Listen to this episode, you may just learn you do not need to anymore.
Another great question and controversial topic- Running on empty.
Many athletes ask me: what are your thoughts about fasting exercise??
Many who are trying to lose weight ask me: is fasting exercise a better way to lose weight?
Many others have difficulty eating before exercising because they are not accustomed to having a full stomach. Others need more time after a meal to exercise.
Finally, nowadays, there is also a hype about fasting/ intermittent fasting in general.
These are all great questions and very interesting topics but there are about 20 different online recommendations for each, many of them very contradictory.
My answer is: it all depends. But there are a few general and logical things to consider- Listen to learn more!
This is a very controversial topic, highly debated, and VERY much promoted by certain group of scientists and food manufacturers. The new and HOT vegan diet debate OR the Plant-based diet.
This seems to be the million Dollar question.
Let’s start with some basic facts:
More than 30 % of Americans are obese that is a body fat of more than 33% for men and more than 37% for women. If you think about this in terms of dress or shirt size it roughly translates into an XX large and higher.
Cheating! Are you Ok with that? Is is OK to cheat on your partner? How about cheating on YOU?
It is summer and many people relax their standards- FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON- because it is summer!! Some drink more alcohol, some eat more ice cream, some get lazy about exercise. If you need a reminder that : WE DO SHOULD NO TAKE VACATIONS FROM HEALTH, listen to this again.
I am sharing this again as the topic of weight and health is extremely important.
I highly disagree and challenge the idea of being overweight and healthy at the same time.
No matter how little EXTRA weight you carry, that is THAT MUCH or THAT LITTLE STRESS ON YOUR BODY. Please STOP sugar coating overweight as OK. It is NOT OK.
This episode is a very special one. Because today I am going to share with you some of my weaknesses, and I am going to tell you what I am going to do to work on them.
4th of July has always been my most favorite American Holiday.
Summer is my favorite season and July is my favorite month. I LOVE it because it is still early in the warm and summer season and I get to be outside and enjoy Mother nature.
AND I think it is a very meaningful holiday.
Bone density loss is a very serious issue, affecting many women AND men in the United States. Osteopenia and Osteoporosis is on the rise and affects many women and men of all ages but more after the age of 50.
I am sure in the past week you have either asked someone this question or have been asked the same question.
I often have to pause for a moment before I respond to this question. This is a national holiday unlike most other holidays.
Often times, people present their excuses as barriers to eating healthy. But there is a HUGE difference between barriers and excuses.
This question comes in many forms including:
What is your cheat food?
How do you satisfy the urge to eat sugar?
When do you take a break from eating healthy and clean? How often?
How do you have the willpower to always say no?
But a few days ago, I heard this version: what is your guilty pleasure?? To be honest, I had not heard this exact question at least not that I recall.
There is no better time like now to ask this question. What fight am I talking about? I am talking about the most important fight of your life. The fight you CAN and should prepare for.
I am asking this because more than 50% of adults in the United States set a new year’s resolutions but VERY few actually keep them and most of them don’t last beyond February 15th. So why talk about this in late April? Because ironically, right around Spring time, the same percentage of adults, if not more, start thinking about getting fit, eating healthy and exercise because, well summer is just around the corner and they want to look good in a bathing suit.
Is there a magic pill?
I started this podcast a little less than a year ago. The description of this podcast starts with this statement.
There are no special ingredients, no magic pills, no miracle diets, & no Rocky style training drills to your true health & well being. If you are looking for NO nonsense, honest, & real life skills that will motivate you to be the best version of YOU, I am here for you. If you are looking for excuses, look elsewhere because excuses are ONLY obstacles you build to set you up for failure.
Is there a link between sugar, sugary drinks and cancer? This is a great question and a very important topic. But more importantly, I received inspiration from a cancer patient this morning. You NEED TO HEAR THIS.
Last week, I talked about cheating and how often I get the question about when can I have a cheat food or a cheat meal. Someone posted this in response to that episode:
“Calling it a cheat immediately brings/ implies guilt. NOT and emotion you want associated with food!”
Excellent point and THANK YOU for this inspiration, I have literally been waiting to talk about this all week.
The question of cheating comes up in a consult, or an email, or phone call at least once a month. And it usually goes something like this:
So, I have been following your recommendations for 6 weeks now, and I am really feeling good, the pain is gone, the gas and bloating has resolved etc. So when do you think I can cheat and have a XYZ?
This is a real dilemma so I came up with a term: Carbivores’ Dilemma.
I have received a long list of questions and topics this past week which I am VERY excited about. But there are quite a few of them that all relate to Carbs, either directly or indirectly AND are a nice continuum, if you will to the last week’s episode.
This is a popular question; there is a lot of confusion about carbs in general and as you have heard me say, there are MANY “diets” with as many misleading information about foods in general but especially about carbs.
I define carbohydrates VERY differently. So today I will shed some light on carbs reputation and be prepared; I will be controversial AGAIN!!
This is the title of one of my seminars but during the last few weeks in particular, I have been reminded of the fact that the majority of people have absolutely no control of their own health. I will present a few cases- confidentially of course.
Today, I will continue to talk about the issue of food labels. I personally feel like I have become somewhat of a food detective.
Today, I want to talk about the issue of food labels. Sometimes I wish this was not something I had to tell people all the time while shopping but sadly, with the way our food system has changed, we are forced to read labels.
This is a sensitive topic: Age.
I am a true believer that age is just a number, and that number is and will be what you make it to be. Personally, 99% of the time I forget about age; my own or others. It really does not cross my mind very much, except when I encounter a situation when I can’t help but think about it. Today I want to talk about age and why it does not matter at all OR does it?
Yes, it is that time of year. Research shows that about 50% of adults in the United States make a New Year’s Resolution each year but how many actually keep them for more than a few months?? Take a guess
This may sound funny and a made-up Syndrome but as common as it is, we may as well give it a name. So what is holiday guilt Syndrome? Tune in to find out.
If you have ever read expert advice about how to avoid gaining weight, or how to stay in control or anything similar during the holidays or any other time, you owe it to yourself to listen to this.
How was your thanksgiving holiday? Two weeks ago, I talked about surviving the holidays. The Fall/ Winter holiday season here in the U.S. is pretty long; it starts with Labor day weekend, then shortly after is Halloween, then Thanksgiving, followed by Christmas and then New year before we can take a break. This doesn’t even take into account the pre-holiday stress!! I talked about that in Episode 22 on October 5th.
Today I want to talk about what we learned from the holidays SO FAR this year. And I am really hoping that those lessons CAN be put into good use before and during the Christmas and New Year this year, and oh maybe, for some, this could be a lesson of a lifetime that they never have to repeat. I have hope.
Back in August, in Episode 15, I addressed the question about eating meat.
Today’s episode is inspired by a list of questions I received from a young athlete. So I am going to answer those questions for everyone who may be wondering about the same things.
Are you using these new terms?? Do you have a pre-and post Covid weight or health status???
I really hope these new words do not become a part of our normal vocabulary.
On many occasions, I get this question from my clients:
“At what age should I start teaching my kids to eat healthy the way to want me to eat?”
This is actually more important in my mind., so keep listening.
How many times a week do you find yourself saying: I don’t have time? How many times a day do you say: I lost track of time? How often do you actually think about time? How many times in your lifetime have you thought: I wish I had made the time?
Last week I started talking about Holiday season and all the stress that accompanies the “season”.
Today, we will take a deeper dive into the most common stressors, the causes, and strategies to avoid the stress OR at the very least, minimize them and learn how to cope with them better.
From lacking motivation to being addicted to EXERCISE!! Tune in, you will not regret this.
. In response to my podcast, a very interesting topic/ question/ issue came up: VACATIONS!!! People love them usually, but they also hate them because: they come back from vacation realizing that:
They have eaten way more than they should
They have consumed foods they should not have
They have had way too much alcohol
They did not exercise while on vacation
They came back to a very cranky scale and a more cranky SELF!!
Sounds familiar???
Happy Labor Day!! Is your brain always ON??? Are you taking REST seriously?? Listen to this episode to discover ways to find peace.
Another great question and controversial topic- Running on empty.
Many athletes ask me: what are your thoughts about fasting exercise??Many who are trying to lose weight ask me: is fasting exercise a better way to lose weight? Many others have difficulty eating before exercising because they are not accustomed to having a full stomach. Others need more time after a meal to exercise. Finally, nowadays, there is also a hype about fasting/ intermittent fasting in general. Curious?? Listen to this podcast.
This is a very popular topic of conversation with many of my clients, BOTH men and women. Are you made to believe that you are just getting old?? Tune in and listen.
Last week, the question was are you eating enough and I called that the million $ question. This question is the $10 million question in my mind.
This is a very controversial topic, highly debated, and VERY much promoted by certain group of scientists and food manufacturers. The new and HOT vegan diet debate OR the Plant-based diet.
Is anything BAD ok in moderation?? One of my pet peeve: Anything in moderation!!! I beg to differ.
It is summer and one very common question I get is: Sunscreen, are they safe? Should I use them? If so, what kind?
Are you ready for this??
Organic vs. Non-Organic Food
One very common question I get from clients is what exactly is organic and should I always buy/eat organic foods.
I have always LOVED 4th of July, and it has always been my most favorite American Holiday. For one, it is summer and I LOVE summers, especially in New England. You get to be outside and enjoy mother nature.
AND I think it is a very meaningful holiday.
Today I want to start answering some of your questions that relate to the major title of this Podcast and the reason I started this to begin with.
What does it mean to be healthy for life?
How do I get healthy for life?
Am I too old to get healthy for life?
Where do I start?
I was interviewed by someone who was writing a piece about “my wellness philosophy”. Doing the interview was a great exercise for me because it made me put my “philosophy” into words. After the publication of that column, I forgot about this for some time. But I realize that some of the questions I was asked during that interview come up all the time in consults with my clients, or other people in casual conversations.
So today, I am going to interview myself for you. I will ask and answer those questions. I hope that by doing this, some of YOUR questions are also answered AND I hope that these would provoke other thoughts and questions in your mind.
Starting today, I will provide you with different ways to get in touch with me (IF you don’t already have this information). I look forward to your questions and thoughts.
Today’s episode is inspired by some of my own life events BUT more so by others whose paths have crossed mine.
In the next couple of episodes, I want to share my story with you. I think it is important that you know who I am and how I got to where I am today. I think telling my story is powerful way of connecting with all of you, weather you know me personally, or have never met me or talked to me before.
So here is part 1- LIFE was not a gift to me in a traditional way.
Episode 1 is a quick introduction to this podcast, and the reason why I started this podcast.
You will get a taste of what this is about and what I am about.
