This recording came about after a pause in recordings at the end of the year, it started off as a conversation with my friend, collaborator, and co-host, Kristina Brummer, and it became one of my most favorite episodes that have been recorded.
Kristina must have sensed that it would be special, and she told me to hit record during our conversation.
What if we used these winter months to call forward what we want? To not go blazing into the year like a lean, mean action machine? As my husband likes to say, mornings are for coffee and contemplation (thank you, Stranger Things). January should be our contemplative month.
We talk about grief, process, growth, and acknowledging that we want some new things. We are not going to should all over ourselves with resolutions, but we will proclaim what we want with our reflection and intentions.

Amy M. Le is a Vietnam War survivor and CHD warrior. She was born in Vietnam nine months before the fall of Saigon and immigrated to the United States in 1980 at the age of five with her mother and cousin. Her family was among the hundreds of thousands of boat people who fled Vietnam after the Vietnam War. They were sponsored to Seattle, WA and made a life for themselves in the Pacific Northwest. Amy graduated from Western Washington University with a degree in
Sociology and worked in the technology and telecommunications sector for twenty years. After her mother's death in February 2017, Amy left her corporate career to write her debut novel SNOW IN VIETNAM as a tribute to her mother's heroic decision to flee their homeland. Her Snow trilogy are historical and women’s fiction novels based on her family’s life and are available through independent bookstores and online retailers. Today, Amy is a full-time writer living in Oklahoma with
her husband and son. She owns Quill Hawk Publishing and helps emerging authors indie-publish their work. She is also co-founder of The Heart Community Collection, a resource for the Congenital Heart Defect community.
Her latest writing project was as one of the authors in the book, Asian Women Trailblazers Who Boss Up book, which profiles 16 Asian women who have broken the bamboo ceiling to blaze a trail for themselves. Sales of the paperback support two nonprofits whose mission is to preserve Asian history and amplify AAPI voices: The Banh Mi Chronicles and Vietnamese Boat People podcasts.

People-pleasing is the strong urge to please others even when they may be putting their own needs at risk. People-pleasers may have the tendency to take on responsibilities that are not asked of them. These actions can lead to higher levels of burnout as both an employee and an entrepreneur.

We all approach midlife from different perspectives.
We might be drifting through life putting our hopes and dreams on hold.

Our guest this week is Kristi Floersch. Kristi has a heart of compassion for people who are anxious, overloaded, overwhelmed, depressed, disinterested, fatigued, bored and spiritless. She understands and deeply cares because she has been through these same debilitating feelings, much of which stem from how she spent her time. She has experienced anxiety from trying to please everyone in her life and depression from not allowing time for herself. Before she wrote "It's Time Flourish Now" Kristi set out on a journey to investigate what is the best possible use of time. Interestingly enough, there are plenty of books on how to budget and invest money, but very few if any, on how to budget and invest time. Along the way she discovered a way tool she calls the "Test of Time" that clarifies what to do with time so you can live a life of meaning, purpose and fulfillment. On this episode of The Creative Pivot Podcast I am talking about how to use journaling as a tool for banishing burnout. This episode is for every woman going through burnout no matter what stage you are at and I don’t want to hear that you don’t like to write or that you’re not good at journaling. I want you to give it a try so that you can get some of the stress that has been sitting in your body out because that stress is related to your thoughts and your emotions and the things that you don’t always want to process. If you can get it out by journaling you often can reevaluate that stress from a more neutral standpoint.

Stacey Birch is the founder of the travel blog "Hot Flashes and Boarding Passes" as well as the Instagram account of the same name. She is a travel blogger that has loved to travel. She turned that passion into her creative pivot and started of the year in Bali at the Institute of Code to learn all about how to code and create her own website. Oswald and I met as many do these days online. We were both fans of Don’t Keep Your Day Job, and took on the challenge of the Made To Do This 12 week course in early 2020.
Oswald has grown so much as a person and as a writer this year, stepping out of his comfort zone and taking on this challenging year, we discuss his emotional journey.

For the past 25 years, Stacy Cordova has worked in education. She has worked as a teachers assistant, special education teacher and administrator. Wendy Harrop was born and raised in California, but her heart has always been in Massachusetts. As an adult, she packed all of her belongings three times for a cross country move only to unpack twice still in CA. As they say, the third time is a charm and she made the big move with her husband in 2013. Trading their condo (c.1985) in the San Francisco Bay Area for an antique farmhouse (c.1785) in rural Massachusetts on 5 acres and transitioning from being a wedding planner to owning a wedding venue she is living her very best life. Since the move, another dream was realized when Wendy and her husband, Keith adopted their daughter, Amelia, from China. There is something about hope deferred that makes one's heart full of joy and glee when the dream is finally realized. She spends her glee-filled days checking off an endless list of farm chores, hosting intimate, interactive workshops and events in her barn, and looking for new and creative ways to share all of this goodness (which is too much for just one family to enjoy!) with the world.

Dan Brown is a lifelong creative, and former communications coordinator and graphic designer for a big city government's museums in the Vancouver area for 20+ years. She retired in 2017 to move to the Okanagan region of British Columbia (think wine, lakes and orchards!) with her husband and daughter. Not content to retire, she wanted to start a graphic design business drawing on her love of all things vintage/heritage, but went to work part time for her local yarn store instead. When the pandemic hit I saw the livelihoods of this region's multitude of artisans, makers, fibre artists, and micro-businesses hit the floor. That spurred me into action, and I started Vintage Creative Works in June. I provide graphic design, writing and social media coaching services for this community, and more importantly, inspiration and support. Kimblyn Harris is creating a movement to inspire others for self-reflection, empowerment and healing. Tien Chiu's career began with a background in mathematics, took a little turn as a technical project manager in the software industry, but it wasn't until a trip to Southeast Asia during the dot com bust that she realized she had the heart of an artist. It was there that she discovered her love of textiles and weaving. That love led her to eventually leave her position at Google, to be a full time artist and educator. When Lisa Spector fractured her hand a few years ago, she was afraid she might never play piano again. This was the worst day of her life and at the same time the best, because she realized she had lost touch with what she loved the most, her music. Abby Wolf is a singer-songwriter and actor based out of Los Angeles. Growing up in Albuquerque, she began fronting indie college rock bands when she was just 14. In the late 90s she relocated to Los Angeles to pursue her own solo music. Wolf hung up her guitar for many years while mothering two children, but after using music to help process grief she was going through, she came back on to the music scene. From dogs, to cats, to one of her first pets as a child in the Dominican Republic, her 2 chickens: Pito and Pita, she has always said, "There's something about their eyes, their soul rests there for me." However, the stay at home orders due to the pandemic froze most of her business, but Judy has had many pivots in her life and she is taking on a new venture to begin motivational speaking, mentorship, teaching, and coaching other businesses.

Rukshana Triem, former refugee and Immigrant from Mozambique came to United States in 1990s. She overcame Sexual abuse and became an advocate for parents and childcare providers to support them on their healing journey. She is a C.E.O of Women's Lifestyle coaching, where she helps women overcome their rough past and create their desired beautiful life through sharing their stories on First Time Speakers Catalysts. She coaches women through group coaching, nature retreats, online programs and communities. Rukshana is also the founder of the Firmina Foundation a 501(3)C non profit which helps build schools in Mozambique, and in the future, Malawi, and Zambia in Africa.
