Podcasts are on the rise and many podcasters are looking beyond the numbers…but are they looking at the right numbers? Success in podcasting isn't centered around gaining listeners. There are some podcasters that are "push marketers". They want to push their content out there and hope that people come to listen. For aspiring podcasters or new podcasters, you should focus on attracting the right listeners—the kind of people who will connect with your podcast and become avid listeners (and hopefully, fans). How can you do it? You can do that by knowing your data or the information you have on hand. In this episode, we will have Graham Brown, founder of Pikkal & Co— an award winning podcast agency, a true expert who has been involved in over 2,000 podcast episodes as a host, producer or guest. He will guide us through the importance of the “data” for podcast growth. Enjoy listening! What benefits do they provide? How can you monetize from it? There is no need for questions as Mark Asquith, co-founder of Captivate.fm, has got our back! In this episode, he will share the tips and tricks about podcasting and how an early-stage podcaster can survive and thrive in the podcasting world. Enjoy listening! What we learned from Kriselle in this episode:
Why positive social representation helps people of color to thrive in their own ways
How Kriselle and Empowered In Color get past the challenges they have encountered along the way.
The need to remind people of color that they have options and choices and that there are people who are willing to help them make their dreams happen.
Making resources, connections, and a safe space available for people in color so they can thrive and not just survive.
Quotes:
"Believe in yourself and all that you are; know that there is something inside of you that is greater than any obstacle."
“Thrive. Not survive.” About the Guest:
Kriselle Gabriel is a writer, social entrepreneur, and the Empowered in Color movement founder who made it her mission to provide equity to people of color who want to make a life of their own outside of what people think and say they are or should be.
The idea grew inside her while growing up in an immigrant neighborhood and realizing how much less privileged other people are inside her community.
She believes that if people of color have a positive representation and are taught entrepreneurship, it can be a powerful vehicle for them to achieve social justice.

One of podcaster creators’ ultimate dreams is to grow a following that will stay with them for the long haul. And a way to do this is to create a cohesive community.
In this episode, we talked with Arielle Nissenblatt about her thoughts on community-building and how podcasters can leverage it to thrive in the podcasting industry.
Listen in and learn from Arielle how you can nurture and give value to your community and how having a community can make your podcast sustainable.
All these and a handful of advice that you shouldn’t miss from a successful podcast community manager. What we learned from Arielle in this episode:
How an avid consumer of podcasts gave birth to the Earbuds Podcast Collective community
What opportunities in advertising and monetization podcasters can tap into even if they don’t have a large following
Why a cohesive community is an essential element in podcasting.
How podcasts can be an effective medium of education.
Quotes:
"Know about the other podcasts in your niche not because it's a bad thing, but because it's an opportunity for collaboration." About the Guest:
Arielle Nissenblatt is the founder of Earbuds Podcast Collective, a podcast listening movement that allows its members to curate a podcast theme recommendation with five podcast episodes each week and sends it through a newsletter.
The idea came to Arielle in 2017 while she was stuck in the usual LA traffic, realizing that podcasts are what gets her through the daily traffic and wanting to expand the repertoire of her weekly listening list. The lack of podcasts to listen to led her to solicit her friends’ recommendations until it grew into a movement.
Arielle is also the community manager of Squadcast.fm, an all-in-one remote recording platform that helps podcasters record video and audio in studio quality. Inside the SquadCast community, Arielle makes sure that people love Squadcast beyond the time they are using it to record their podcast and see SquadCast as a community they can learn about podcasting.
Arielle’s goal is to create a podcast community where audio lovers can create, ask questions, collaborate, and most importantly, listen.

11:10 Choosing the best platform for the type of community that you have
17:23 The reason people show up and interact as a community is what will make a strong and cohesive community that benefits both the podcast and its community.
17:23 Arielle hopes that in the future, podcasting will not just be a medium for entertainment but also as a platform to be adopted for education.
19:10 Arielle’s advice to people who want to get on board with podcasting is to listen to other podcasts in their niche, see the opportunity to collaborate instead of thinking of them as a deterrent to their growth.

What the essence of podcasting is, the impact that it creates on listeners and how it creates a sense of purpose and motivation.

Why Storytelling is important if you starting your own Podcast In this episode, Erik Cabral, founder of Podmax tells us storytelling is critical in terms of engagement. He said you want people to be interested and listen to your show and it’s not engaging in term of relatability and they don’t find it within the first 30 seconds of your show then they’re out. Leah Sheldon and Janine Sigley formed the non-profit Story Dogs organisation in 2009 in Murwillumbah, NSW. At the time both Leah and Janine had primary school aged children.
After seeing a similar program operating in the USA on the internet they decided Australia needed such a program. They came up with Story Dogs, based on the successful American literacy program, Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.), which was launched in 1999 in Utah, USA. R.E.A.D. was the first comprehensive literacy program built around the appealing idea of children and young adolescents reading to dogs.
Leah and Janine are both dog lovers and also passionate about children reaching their full potential.

Fresh Eyes recently caught up with up-and-coming Australian rapper Mugzy. Born on the 22nd of January 1991 Mugzy had to fight through his adolescent years. Struggling with deep internal stress, he found inspiration in Eminem after his first encounter with Hip-Hop when he heard the song 'The Way I Am'. Mugzy felt that he could strongly relate to the lyrics in Eminem's songs & began to change his image to be a true representative of the Hip-Hop culture.

First Episode of Guerrilla Podcast : Fresh Eyes with Narrative Artist Nelya Valamanesh of ActNow Theater.
ActNow Theatre was founded in 2007 by Edwin Kemp Attrill, the company’s current Artistic Director. He and two high school friends wanted to create a street theatre performance about (then) Guantanamo Bay detainee David Hicks. Driven by an ambition to explore issues around injustice and oppression through theatre, Edwin formed the original ActNow ensemble with members of Urban Myth Theatre Company (where he was a member of the senior ensemble) and Amnesty International. This ActNow ensemble presented highly visual performances in public spaces, with a guerrilla approach to its unscheduled appearances and the agitprop content of the work.
