Sherry’s 10-year struggle with alcohol ended in surrender to God and a 1,000-mile bike trip. There is an easier way! Sherry started She Surrenders out of a place of needing to hear more humor and encouragement for women of faith struggling with their secrets of addiction. Her heart is to share everything about recovery and what it looks like to surrender to God and the life He is calling you to live. Whatever you struggle with, you are in the right place to find encouragement and comfort that you are not alone. We all have our stuff.
A head-on collision started a battle Tasha Williams wasn't prepared for: prescription pain medication that didn’t just numb broken bones, but also silenced years of buried fear, grief, and trauma. When relief feels like rescue, the line between treatment and opioid addiction can disappear fast. In this episode Tasha traces her story back to childhood domestic violence and the vow she made at nine years old to never be hurt again.
If you need hope for yourself or someone you love, listen through to the end, then subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review so more women searching for Christian addiction recovery and opioid recovery can find it.

Tasha Williams is a 41-year-old woman who knows what it means to fight—and to win daily! After surviving the chokehold of addiction, Tasha's been walking in freedom for 8 years through Jesus Christ. She is a proud mom of two “semi-grown” kids—Nevaeh (20) and Maleak (19)—who keep her grounded, grateful, and praying a little extra. Tasha serves as the Director of Residential Life at Blue Monarch, where she has the honor of walking alongside women as they rewrite their stories—because she knows firsthand that your past doesn’t disqualify you, it prepares you. Somewhere between morning coffee and leaning on God for everything, she's learned He still restores, still redeems, and still uses imperfect people to do powerful things—and she's living proof.

Can a desperate middle of the night prayer save your life? We sit down with Sam and Noelle Borgia as they share their story of a 20-year addiction that nearly ended in death before a 2:33 AM surrender to God changed everything.
Sam and Noelle speak honestly and vulnerably about Sam's slide into addiction, the challenges of medication-assisted treatment, and how easy it is to lose hope even when someone truly wants to change. Noelle shares what it’s like to stand in faith when everyone around you says, “Run.”
We talk healing, reconciliation, the “get-to” life of recovery, and how their book Silence The Lion and Shattered Mirror Ministries now serve people in programs and prisons across the U.S.

After battling drug addiction (opioids, heroin, crack, suboxone) and spinning his wheels trying to get clean for 20 years, Sam Borgia tried to end his life with an overdose. Noelle had filed for divorce (still believing that the Lord would step in!), he lost his job, his health was suffering, and he had lost everything and gave up. He was left with a 5% chance to live on life support. 12 days into his hospital stay, he had an encounter with the Lord that changed EVERYTHING. Since that day, he has never used it again, and we have devoted our lives to sharing the good news that there is power in the name of Jesus to break EVERY chain. Something happens when alcohol is no longer the price of admission to friendship. We’ve watched it in our online communities and in recovery rooms, and we’re ready to bring it to a bigger space: The Aligned Conference, a Christian alcohol-free women’s conference happening September 22–24, 2026 in Holland, Michigan, right by Lake Michigan.
Sherry Hoppen (She Surrenders and Selah House Recovery) and Christy Osborne (Love Life Sober, sobriety coach) share why we chose the word aligned, and why it fits whether you’re sober-curious, stuck in the gray area, or years into recovery. We talk honestly about surrender, letting go of guilt and shame, and the real reason so many women still feel a gap even after they stop drinking: they’re trying to heal alone.
You’ll also hear practical conference details so you can actually plan this. We cover conference dates, travel tips, and more! We also introduce our first round of speakers and the kind of testimony-driven, Jesus-centered encouragement you can expect.
Listen, then share this with a woman who needs a safe place to grow in Christian sobriety. Subscribe, leave a review, and send it to a friend who’s ready to step away from alcohol and step toward community.

What if alcohol isn’t the core problem—but escape is? We sit down with Jon Seidl, author of Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic, to unpack a bracingly honest journey from cultural drinking to quiet day buzzes, from a bestselling book high to an aching low, and a night in Miami that tore the blinders off. Jon doesn’t glamorize a bottom; he shows how subtle compromises pile up when success fades, old wounds whisper, and numbing feels easier than feeling.
If you’ve ever asked why sobriety can feel flat or why white-knuckling fades, this conversation offers a clearer target and practical tools for the long haul. Freedom grows when we stop numbing, tell the truth, and let God fill what alcohol only muted. Subscribe, share with a friend who needs hope, and leave a review to help more people find a path to lasting recovery.

His first book, Finding Rest, became a bestseller in several categories and a top 100 book on Amazon. His latest book, Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic, is his radically vulnerable story of being the Christian who became an alcoholic, his climb out of addiction, and how others can break free from all of life’s entanglements. Shortly after its release, the book became the top new release in addiction recovery on Amazon. He lives in Frisco, TX, with his wife and two young children. Some stories find their turning point in the unlikeliest moment—like a hungover Sunday when a single sermon about confession cuts through the noise. That’s where Stephanie’s path shifted from white-knuckle control to honest surrender, and the difference changed everything.
We walk through her early years in Wisconsin where football and drinking were inseparable, the college chaos that ended in a mandated detox, and the AA meeting that cracked denial. Then comes a quieter chapter and a slow slide back through “sophisticated” wine culture. She describes the hidden labor of moderation, the work events that exposed the gap between her values and her actions, and the shame of representing faith in public while self-destructing in private.
If this story resonates, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs hope, and leave a review to help more people find a path to freedom.

A single break changed everything. Amber thought discipline would keep life in order—straight A’s, strict faith, and hours of exercise that looked healthy from the outside. When a double pirouette ended with a broken foot, the illusion shattered. What followed wasn’t instant perfection but a new kind of honesty about addiction, control, and the slow work of healing with God at the center.
Together we unpack what addiction can look like beyond substances—perfectionism, productivity, and legalism—and how to step out of their shadow with tools that actually help. Amber talks about the community that sustains her, the spiritual mentorship that keeps her grounded, and her calling as an author creating faith-based resources on anxiety, depression, and recovery.
If you’re craving a story that names hard things and still points to hope, this conversation is for you. Listen, share with a friend who needs courage today, and if the message resonates, subscribe and leave a review so more people can find a path toward faith-led recovery and real-world healing.

Molly Cherry spent years running from herself—using addiction, manipulation, and self-destruction to numb what she didn’t know how to face. But what she was really running from was the pain Jesus wanted to heal. Her escape led to broken relationships, mental hospitals, trauma, and moments when her family almost had to live without her. Yet in her darkest place, God’s grace found her. Jesus didn’t shame Molly—He rescued her, rebuilt her, and showed her real freedom. Molly's recovery is not just her story—it’s His, and proof that no one is too far gone for redemption.

What if a vivid dream could change not just your life, but the lives of countless women and children? That's exactly what happened to Susan Binkley, the founder of Blue Monarch. Join us for a heartfelt conversation with Susan as she shares her inspiring journey from a dream in 1995 to the creation of Blue Monarch in 2003. Despite having no experience in recovery work, Susan overcame her initial reluctance. Her unwavering obedience, faith, and determination led her to build a sanctuary that has reunited over 350 children with their mothers and helped women heal from severe trauma.
Susan Binkley grew up in Tennessee and received a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Tennessee. In addition to working as a professional artist, she owned and operated a horse farm and large boarding operation, developed unique vacation rentals, created a bakery/café, and established a granola manufacturing business. In 2003, Binkley founded Blue Monarch, a Christ-centered, long-term residential recovery program for women and their children. Blue Monarch has since become one of the most unique and successful recovery programs in the country with a strong emphasis on teaching women to parent sober and by focusing on the child’s recovery as much as the mom’s. Since 2003, Blue Monarch has served nearly 1,000 women and children and over 350 children have been reunited with their mothers who had previously lost custody.
Susan authored a collection of her personal Blue Monarch stories, “From My Front Row Seat,” which quickly became an Amazon bestseller in two categories: Inspirational Christianity and Christian Missions & Missionary Work. The stories are raw and authentic combined with surprising humor, considering the heavy subject matter.
Binkley’s awards include Women in American History Award from Daughters of the American Revolution, TIAA Difference Maker, and an Honorary Doctorate in Civil Law from the University of the South. Susan lives with her husband, Clay, on the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee overlooking a state park.

When Ericka first confided her struggle with alcohol with a small group gathered in her church basement, she shared her addiction bravely and honestly. Her voice beckons us to walk alongside her as she navigates sobriety through the lens of her faith as a Christian woman. Today, we're honored to share the microphone with Ericka, who gives a raw and truthful account of her path from high school warning signs to the pressures of social drinking that escalated into motherhood. It's not just about the cautionary tales but finding a balance in educating without instigating rebellion, all while upholding the values that are the bedrock of our lives. Her story is one of bravery that will resonate with anyone grappling with the complexities of being open and honest as a Christian woman in recovery. The episode culminates with a look at the indispensable role of the church in nurturing spiritual growth and supporting those in recovery.
Ericka and I met when she reached out to me via Instagram last November for an interview she was working on for Christianity Today. We had a great connection immediately. We are both women of faith leading a life of sobriety, and that interview turned into a very long conversation as we shared our experiences with each other. I knew she would be a great guest on the She Surrenders podcast!
Ericka is also the author of the Book;
Reason to Return-Why Women need the Church and the Church Needs Them. We will talk a little bit more about the book here too and of course I will link the book in the notes as well. So welcome Ericka, I am so glad we finally made this happen!

When the person you love becomes a stranger consumed in the grip of addiction, the world can feel upside down. Deb's bravery shines as she recounts her experience of supporting her husband, a pastor, through his harrowing battle with prescription pain medication dependency. Our conversation delves into the heart of a marriage tested by the silent war of addiction, offering a compassionate perspective on a struggle that is far more common than many dare to admit. Deb's journey, marked by resilience and faith, provides an intimate look at the complexities of loving someone through their darkest times.
This episode doesn't shy away from confronting the uncomfortable silence that often surrounds addiction in faith communities. We discuss the church's role in the healing journey, examining the stigmas and challenges faced when seeking support. Addiction within the walls of a church can be a lonely battle, but it's a story that needs to be told, and I am grateful to Deb for telling it here. I can honestly say the book they wrote about their story is one of the best I have ever read.

New York Times best-selling author Karen Ehman shares her deeply personal narrative of growing up with an alcoholic father. Her courage in exposing the raw emotions of her childhood not only touches the heart but also opens the door to understanding the complexity of addiction's impact on families. Within these revelations lie powerful lessons of forgiveness and the indomitable strength found in surrendering to God those things we cannot change in those we love.
As Karen's story unfolds, we probe the silent battles faced by those raised in homes marred by addiction. It's a discussion that uncovers the lasting effects of maintaining a veneer of normalcy amidst internal turmoil and the toxic relationship patterns that can emerge from such chaos. But there's hope—mentorship, community support, and choices- leading away from pain toward a healthier future. Karen's experiences shine a light on the importance of these lifelines in breaking free from the cycles of secrecy and addiction.
Thank you, Karen, for your willingness to be vulnerable so that others will be encouraged as they listen to your story. May they find renewed hope in your story and trust that God is loving them through it.

Picture yourself in the shoes of a man who has lost his brother to suicide and succumbed to the depths of alcohol addiction. That's the raw and heart-wrenching journey of our guest, Jared Zimmerman, whose courage led him to ultimate recovery. Today's podcast with Jared Zimmerman will impact you no matter who you are. Both Jared and his wife’s family are what we affectionally call a “grove family.” That means that both of their families went to school with ours at the little country school called Forest Grove. Heartache still finds its way into beautiful families raising kids out in the country, as you will soon hear. God has woven together a story of suicide, addiction, family, and strength that, as painful as it is, Jared is using that story for God's purpose. Jared and Summer are a living testimony of what it looks like to live your faith out loud to encourage and walk alongside others in their pain. As he paints a vivid picture of his struggles, from the anguish of losing his brother to the stigma of mental health, we can't help but be moved by his resilience and determination.
We'll introduce you to the amazing business they recently launched, "Inspire One Life," a beacon of hope for those battling mental health challenges. Driven by their personal experiences, they are turning their pain into a platform for spreading positivity and mental health awareness. As we discuss the poignant messages conveyed by their merchandise, you'll be inspired by their resilience and determination. Summer shared a verse with me that seemed very fitting as I sat with them.
Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. Knowing these two lovely people since they were very young made it even more special to sit and share our stories together; even more special is that these are things that the fingerprints of God are all over.
There's a special meaning to that last sentence; listen for it in the podcast!

This podcast, while being one of the hardest ones I've ever done as far as getting through it without letting my emotions get the best of me, was also the podcast where I was pinching myself that this was happening. Steph is sharing her story, and I have the privilege of sitting here at the table with her while she shares. I don't care who you are; this is never an easy assignment, and I say assignment because that is what it is. God handed it out, and completing it is up to you. I recall that feeling well when I shared my story for the first time. I had no desire to, but I did, having no idea the freedom I would experience on the other side of the telling when I was released of the guilt and shame that kept me quiet for so long. I do not know who will hear Stephanie's story, but I know this. We only tell our hard stories for one purpose: so others can be blessed with the hope that the same miracle awaits them.
All it takes is that moment of Surrender.
Thank you, Loren and Stephanie, for using your pain for God's purpose.

I'm not too fond of labels and decided that the Trauma label did not apply to me long ago. That decision came from a place of not understanding what Trauma really is. I thought it was only something that happened to you that met one or more of the following criteria:
We are so quick to disregard what we don't think applies to us, so I tuned out a lot whenever this topic came up. My view of Trauma has been enlightened, and I bet yours will be, too, when you listen to this podcast.
It's a little bit of Stuart Smalley and a whole lot of Jesus. Why? Because although it's essential to identify the problems in our lives, I would always rather talk about the solution.
Speaking of-Jesus had a perfect solution❤️
"Come to me, all you who are weary, and I will give you rest."
Thanks for being here with me today, Kali & Michelle; I couldn't have this valuable conversation without you!

My friend Janet joins me today on the podcast and starts by reading you her letter. Her breaking up with alcohol letter is impacting, raw, honest, and from her heart.
Janet's relationship with alcohol has been long and complicated, and it was time to end this unhealthy love affair with booze. How is she doing it? Listen to her share her heart with you and where she finds strength and joy in this new way of living.
Thank you, Janet, for your bravery and willingness to share your story in the hope that it will help someone else make that step to end the relationship with alcohol that is destroying their lives and everything around them.
Here are the verses Janet shared-
2 Corinthians 12:9 "But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses so that Christ's power may rest on me."
I Peter 1:13 13 "Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming."

Today, on the podcast, we are having an important conversation about addiction and how there are some new tools in therapy you may not be familiar with. Our youngest daughter Olivia is a Masters's Level Therapist who recently became certified in ART therapy. ART stands for Accelerated Resolution Therapy, and you will hear me stumble over those big words in the podcast.
I know you will not only enjoy our conversation as she shares what ART is all about and her personal experience with it (Fear of dogs, not my fault), but you will also be intrigued and want to know more. She has given me lots of links that I will put here for you. I welcome your comments and feedback about this episode!
It was an honor to host Olivia on the SS Podcast, but I also want to add that I am so grateful that we have this healthy relationship on the other side of my addiction.
Thanks for listening, friends,
Sherry

Lori Layne is an Author, Pilot, and a Recovering Alcoholic. Her story is truly an example of letting God be the pilot of our lives.
Lori shares Romans 5:3-5 with us as part of her story. You're going to be inspired by what God can do when we put aside our addictions to be used for a greater purpose!
Romans 5:3-5
Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

What is that “thing” that you regret you did not do sooner? Since this is a podcast about addiction and mostly alcoholism there are two answers I often hear.
I wish I had quit drinking before I actually did
I wish I had joined this group before I tried it on my own again.
This group is Joyful Surrender and in this podcast, you're going to hear what a meeting is all about.
I get countless unfinished “form” notifications each week about joining Joyful Surrender. There are five questions you have to answer.
AND, this is where I lose you.
In my estimations only about one in twenty follow through with #5. It makes no sense to me, but yet it does because I have been there. You want to take the final step but at the last minute, all the little voices of doubt creep in.
I'm passionate about Encouraging anyone to join A group, I am not trying to sell Joyful Surrender. I don’t make a profit there isn't a membership fee the only thing that’s required is a true desire to get sober and use your faith as the biggest tool To be accountable and to receive encouragement as well as give encouragement that’s why we are sharing this meeting with you
We will talk about;
What made us complete step 5 and schedule that phone call? What relapse in a support group looks like? Why are faith-based meetings so important?
And so much more!
“And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” Hebrews 10:25 NLT
Meet Becky!
Becky reached out to me after following She Surrenders on social media for a while. She had been praying for the next steps in her Recovery, and God nudged her to reach out to me. I am so glad she did! We had a great conversation, and I am excited to share it with you.
Becky shares Romans 8:1 "God does not want us to sin, but even if we sin, we will not be condemned because of what Jesus has done for us."
I am sure this story of faith and surrender will inspire you!
Here is the link to Becky's Blog we mentioned in the podcast. Be sure to check it out and say hi!

Thank you Becky for your willingness to use your PAIN for PURPOSE!
Today on the podcast, we have my dear friend, Pam. Pam and I met in a unique way which we will share with you on the podcast. If you doubt that Divine Appointments are real, our story will change your mind.
This podcast is titled "Not By Chance" because I wrote a short story about our Divine Appointment, published in a short story book. This was also my first published writing, so it is extra special to me.
I am so grateful that Pam was willing to share her story with you here on the She Surrenders Podcast.
Thank you, Pam, you have blessed me many times in our friendship, and now all who listen will be blessed as well!
We have a first here today on the SS podcast, a guy!!! Not just any guy, it's my new friend Kyle who is celebrating two years of sobriety, TODAY. I thought it would be very fitting to air his story today to commemorate this milestone. Kyle shares with us how he got to his surrender moment, the scripture he lives by, and what life looks like today.
CONGRATULATIONS ON TWO YEARS TODAY KYLE!
Grateful you chose to celebrate with us here at She Surrenders, thank you.
Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Tarrah is back with us today. You may remember Tarrah from episode #18 here on the SS podcast when she was celebrating her 90-day hurdle, and NOW, on June 10, Tarrah celebrated one year of sobriety! She shares with us the verse she and her husband focused on the entire day of her one-year mile marker. They went hiking together and made this verse the focus of their day;
Psalm 18:2 NIV
The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Tarrah shares with us what she has embraced to stay sober and how God has brought her through it. She quotes her husband's gift of these words to her.
"When I come home, I know who you are going to be." Josh
So true; we all love knowing who we will be every day in this beautiful life of Recovery. Thank you, Tarrah, for sharing your heart and your journey to one year with us.❤️
WE are back and talking about Summer! Join Debbie, Kali, Terri, Michelle, Lynne, and Myself for a few thoughts, tips, and laughs to encourage you to have your best summer yet because you are doing it SOBER. Happy Summer!
If you scroll all the way back to Episode 1 you will hear Michelle tell her story at one year of sobriety. Today she shares some sober life tips and what she is learning in year three! We're talking about therapy in recovery today and we do so shamelessly! You will be enlightened and encouraged as Mischelle shares her path in therapy with us.
If you are drinking and a Mom, you need to listen to Stephanie's story. Everyone should listen to this! Don't ever say that "this would never happen to me" Stephanie didn't think so either, but it did. She spent Mother's day 2020 in the ER after a 911 call from her kiddos saved her life. She shares how God is at the forefront of her recovery today and how God put some puzzle pieces together for her to find the ministry of She Surrenders.
Listen as Stephanie tells the rest of her story.
Join me for this honest conversation with Debbie, a friend, and admin of Joyful Surrender. Debbie shares with you how God tugged at her heart to participate in a Bible Study even though she was still drinking. Listen to Debbie's story of her path into alcoholism and the journey God brought her on to bring her to her surrender moment.
She shares scripture from Ephesians about putting on the full armor of God and what the sword of the spirit means to her.
Thank you, Debbie, for being willing to share your story to encourage others to surrender and start living a life of freedom from alcohol.
.
Ephesians 6:10-17 NIV
The Armor of God
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
How is your mindset going into New Year's Eve this year? On this last episode of our sober for the holidays series, the Sober Circle talks about how to do your first New Year's Eve sober and find joy in the celebrations without alcohol. Michelle, Kali, and Sherry have lots to say about this topic!
In today's episode, the Sober Circle is focusing on our intentions for next year. Maybe you have already started doing this as well. Maybe you use a word that defines your goal.
Whatever your plan is to achieve the bigger goal, how do you break it down to set yourself up for success? Join Kali, Lynne, and Sherry as we share some of our tips to get ready for 2022!
Here we are with Part 2 of the Sober Circle Holidays Series. This week's topic is, "When the Rest of the Family is Still Drinking."
Listen in as Sherry, Kali, Karen, and Lynne share five tips to help you navigate the family parties where alcohol is still part of the main course. These tips are helpful whether your family party is a quieter bunch with a champagne toast or it's the one whose annual Christmas get-together is a legendary rager every year. We have something for everyone! Join us and get your head in the game before the event.
This is the first of a four-part series for everyone. Whether you are newly sober, trying to get sober, or want to gain more confidence for yourself as you navigate through the next month, this series is for you. It is also a great source of information for you if someone you love is going through this for the first time. We will help you answer the question, what can you do to be supportive through the season?
Today's episode is all about prepping for the holidays. There is a lot of it this time of year, but we’re not talking about decorating, cooking, and shopping. What are you doing to prepare yourself to embrace the holidays sober?
Join Kelly, Michelle, and Terry, and myself as we share our personal experiences with you in hopes you take away a tip to strengthen your sober muscle this holiday season.
This week on the Sober Circle we have Sherry, Lynne, Debbie, Karen, and Kali at the table and we are talking about Rock Bottoms! What is Rock Bottom and do you need to have one to start a life of sobriety? Join us for the discussion as we discuss our own rock bottoms and you will hear that this looks different for all of us.
Are you a new girl in sober life? If so, you will like listening to Kari today. She recently joined our Joyful Surrender Group, has been knocking down the sober days ever since, and recently celebrated thirty days of sobriety! She has been at this milestone before, but this time is different, and she wants to share that with you. I am grateful that Kari is sharing her story in the early days of sobriety. Sharing her story is a prime example of giving back in recovery where the giver benefits as well. Sharing our struggles and achievements is empowering, and in turn, we all win. Thank you, Kari, for stepping up to the microphone here at She Surrenders!
Welcome to the Sober Circle!! Today we are talking about the importance of community in recovery. This verse from Ecclesiastes 4:10 sums it up well:
"If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.”
Thanks for being here, and we welcome your comments and questions!
Welcome to The Sober Circle, where we record conversations about all things God, sobriety, how we get there, and stay there. We also answer questions from our listeners, focus on topics in the media today (of which there are many), or whatever is on our hearts. Together with Terri, Debbie, Kali, Michelle, Karen, Lynne, and myself, we have valuable conversations, and we want to share them with you. Sometimes you will hear all of us in the conversation and other times just a few of us. Just know that the time spent in the Sober Circle will be informative, inspiring, and faith-based. We want to show you what can happen when you make God bigger than the bottle and surrender your addiction to Him.
Christina is a friend from Melbourne, Australia. I like to say she represents the international chapter of She Surrenders! I love her, her humble heart, and her accent. She shares her story of building this life of increased, accumulating busyness until it fell and alcohol remained. I appreciated hearing more of Christina’s story and so will you. Thank you, Christina, for sharing your story of what happens when you say yes to God and no to alcohol.

This week we have the pleasure of listening to Tarrah’s story. Tarrah is one of the newer faces at She Surrenders and she is sobered up and showing up for recovery life. I love her enthusiastic spirit and her participation in our Joyful Surrender group. Thank you, Tarrah, for your willingness to be vulnerable and share your story.
Welcome back from summer break! We are kicking off the Fall season here with Lynne. Lynne is a part of our She Surrenders community and also a member of Joyful Surrender, our private recovery group. She authentically shares her addiction journey of alcoholism with you here and I am so glad she did. From marital conflict to cross country moves she learned that alcohol doesn't care where you are, it will follow. But so does Recovery. Listen and Learn! Thank you Lynne for being here with us.
Elaine and I met through a mutual friend and she reached out to me after reading my book. She discovered we had a lot of similarities in our stories and I have loved corresponding with her. Elaine shares her recovery story with so much bravery and I am in awe of her! She is a pastor's wife, farm girl, boy mom, and avid lover of the Lord. In today's podcast, Elaine shares about the trauma that set her up for addiction and also her relapse after twenty years of sobriety.
Elaine talks about the support group, SEVEN. SEVEN is a safe place, a support group for anyone with hurts, habits, or hangups based on the 12 steps of Recovery and Biblical comparisons to each step.
If you would like to get in touch with Elaine and find out more about the group, please email me at sherry@shesurrenders.com and I will make that happen.
Thank you, Elaine, for sharing your hard story to encourage others!
You may recall my conversation with Kelly in one of my first podcasts. Recently, Kelly reached out to me with some perspectives she wanted to share with you. So to celebrate her three-year sober birthday, we continued the conversation. You will be enlightened and appreciative of all she shares with us.
Thank you, Kelly!
I so enjoyed my time with Alyssa. This is one of the longer podcasts because we couldn’t quit talking. The conversation was so good! Can’t wait for you to listen and also the unique way that we found each other.
Alyssa has a website and you can visit it at thisthorn.com. The name comes from the thorn Paul references in 2 Corinthians 12. I will always have the thorn of addiction "poking" me in the side to remind me of my need to depend on God for relief. Alyssa says, “It's the thing that He's used to draw and keep me close to Him.”
I love that! Check it out and find her on social media too. Thank you, Alyssa!

Today we welcome Marilyn to the She Surrenders podcast. You will love her story of 16 years of faith-based recovery after her "Aha" moment that gave her the desire to put down her glass for good!
This week I am sharing a message with you that I did virtually for Grace Christian University in Grand Rapids last month. Like many other events, this one was supposed to be in person but it didn’t happen. There have been so many changes like this in 2020, hasn’t there? Changes that bring unexpected fears and anxiety. I wanted to speak into how to not only put faith over fear but put your faith into action as well!

I met Limor at a She Recovers Event in New York in May of 2017. We sat next to each other at a session and had a stimulating conversation and have kept in touch via Facebook ever since. She is a busy lady and has quite a story of which you will hear more about in the podcast. I invite you to check out her website and learn more about what she does.
This is a bit of a different interview than what we have done previously here on the SS podcast, but I wanted to recognize that there are many paths to recovery. Limor addresses and encourages her clients to follow a path of spirituality with the higher power they have chosen. I think the tools of accountability and assignment that we talk about together are key to recovery, along with your spiritual life.
Limor is the Founder and Executive Director of Bespoke Wellness Center in New York which opened this past September amidst the pandemic. No small accomplishment
Limor is a Licensed Psychotherapist and an Eating Disorder Specialist practicing in New York City. Limor is extremely passionate about the prevention of mental illness and the promotion of wellness.
As a mother of three, wife, and psychotherapist, Limor has dedicated her life to helping others navigate their way through the personal challenges and behaviors that inhibit happiness and harmony in their lives. Originally from Israel, Limor credits her experience living on a Kibbutz as an adolescent, during her own family struggles, along with her service as a commander in the Israeli military, with giving her a strong sense of purpose, discipline, and values. She has personally developed a structured therapeutic program called The KARMA Method, which helps individuals and their families lead a happier and healthier lifestyle.
KARMA stands for:
KNOWLEDGE
ACCEPTANCE
RELEASE THE PAST
MAKE MEANING
ACHIEVE AUTHENTICITY
Thank you, Limor for being a guest here and sharing some more valuable tools for recovery.
You may remember Nicki from a previous podcast. If you missed it, go back to Episode #5 and listen to Nicki’s story about her relationship with alcohol. She is with us today to speak about the relationship between sugar and alcohol. Why they have such a close relationship and what we need to be aware of. She shares with us why processed sugar is so addictive and how it relates to alcohol addiction as well. Spoiler alert: the hangover is the same. Listen and learn!
Want to know more about Nicki? She has a blog and you can find it at: http://anextraordinarylife.net/3-major-effects-alcohol-and-sugar-have-on-your-fitness-goals/

Thanks for giving us valuable insight, Nicki!
Today’s story is a first here on She Surrenders - The Podcast. You will not hear the story from the addict but from the addict's mother. Carla shares with us the story of her son's journey into addiction and the pain that it brought their family. She shares his story to encourage other families in the same situation and to show others what God can do when we accept that God's plan is the best plan.
Carla went on to start a support group called REFRESH - an acronym that stands for Rendering Encouragement for Finding Pathways to Reconciliation Enabling Support and Healing! The inspiration to do this started with a nudge from God and this verse: “The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.” - Proverbs 11:25
For more information on REFRESH, you can contact Carla by texting 870-261-3530, giving her your first name and the number you’ll call from. That way she will know its a legit call and connect with you.
Thank you, Carla, for your willingness to share, being vulnerable, and sharing the hope and healing that we can only find in Him.
This is a recording of a talk I did for Grace Christian University in Grand Rapids, MI. In Mark chapter 5, we read about a woman who worked really hard to get to Jesus so she could just touch his coat and be healed. My story of addiction is woven through here because that's all I wanted. To touch his coat and say goodbye to addiction. Little did I know that this is where the real work would begin. There were some visual slides used in this talk so you will have to use your imagination, but I believe the message still comes through clearly. Thanks for listening!
I had a great time doing this interview for you! Today, you will hear from my friend Nicki. She is all things health, nutrition, and physical fitness and a huge inspiration to me to want to do better in all of those areas. She shares her descent into binge drinking and how she put the brakes on it and made the choice to do life better.
Nicki is a young wife and mother who is a testament to the power of prayer and a firm belief in divine intervention. She shares her story here to encourage all of us, but especially for all of you Moms in the trenches of raising littles.
She will be back here on another episode to share some wisdom about a few other things that we struggle with as women especially and some tips on how to get on track.
Today's interview is with my friend Mary. A young woman who definitely had a moment that brought her to her knees and into recovery. Her message is a riveting account of the journey that she was on that brought her to knees and into recovery.
I hope this message speaks to you, it certainly did to me. Honestly, it brought me to tears while she was speaking, and again when I listened to the song she quotes, "Redeemed" by Big Daddy Weave.
"All my life I have been called unworthy
Named by the voice of my shame and regret
But when I hear you whisper, "child lift up your head"
I remember oh God you're not done with me yet"
I have grown pretty close to this special lady. She is a voice of recovery and so much more. Her testimony of how God moved her into putting down her drink for the last time is one you will appreciate. After you listen be sure to show some positive support and leave a comment over in the She Surrenders community. I'm so grateful for Kelly's willingness to share and I know you will be too.
This week on the She Surrenders Podcast, we have Michelle. Michelle shares with us what it felt like to be an extremely high functioning Christian woman caught in the grips of an addiction to alcohol. Sound familiar?
For Michelle, the tipping point was the death of her Mom."I felt like my soul was being worn away by alcohol." Tune in for the rest of Michelle's story and the hope she brings about conquering addiction.
What, or who, is She Surrenders? Meet Sherry Hoppen, founder and creator of She Surrenders - a place for women who need encouragement and hope in the entanglement of addictions. Join us and know: you're not alone.
