Monica is a qualified and fully registered Dramatherapist from Kansas City, Missouri, United States. Heartwork Studio is her very own wellness service offering workshops to encourage overall wellness, using the arts- visual art, drama, movement, writing, and music. Her workshop topics cover things like relaxation, connection, identity, self esteem, healthy relationships, self care, boundaries, resiliency. Participants will explore these topics (and more!) through artistic and creative activities, with the guidance of a facilitator.

She specializes in using theatre and roleplay alongside other expressive arts to achieve therapeutic and educational goals. Her past roles include engaging the arts in hospitals, nonprofit organizations, theatres, schools, and most recently on a feature film set.

Robert Greene's Procession is, a film, created with six men (Dan Laurine, Joe Eldred, Mike Foreman, Tom Viviano, Ed Gavagan, and Michael Sandridge) who were abused by Catholic priests and clergy. It is a collaborative exercise in trauma recovery.

Dramatherapist Monica Phinney defines the role of Dramatherapy in this context as “the intentional use of dramatic theater and role-play for a therapeutic goal” and knew that this process wasn't going to be easy on the survivors who would go onto "produce their own short films reflecting on their abuse, with the goal of reclaiming those memories and offering protection to their inner children" writes reviewer Lovia for the Hollywood Reporter

This November, 26th Soearth Projects will host a screening of Procession and live panel discussion with Robert Greene, Mike Foreman and Monica Phinney followed by a performance (debriefing) by Full Circle Playback Theatre Company. You can log in from anywhere in the world, tickets for the panel discussion and performance can be purchased here.

Sarah West, MPA, BA(Hons), DKATI - Sarah is a graduate from The Kutenai Art Therapy Institute.

Environmental Arts Therapy is Sarah's specialization - a modality akin to earth therapy and nature therapy. She is a professional member of the Canadian Art Therapy Association as well as a climate-aware therapist with the Climate Psychology Alliance.

Environmental arts therapy is an intentionally structured and accompanied process that uses creative methods in relationship with the earth to support our wellbeing. It can involve many different ways of creating, such as movement, writing, and making art. This can be done spontaneously, or we’ll offer suggestions for what could be created.

In this process, we connect with our full selves - body, mind, spirit. We set our intentions, we form a question we’d like an answer to. We walk, we move, we watch for the land “speaking back.” We go towards what we’re drawn to. We create with what’s on hand, however feels comfortable. We notice what plants or animals or natural synchronicities might arise. We see what emerges and what it might say to us. We feel the effect of working with traditional, recycled or natural art materials, and in that way, come into a greater sense of knowing the land that surrounds us.

This creative process can result in what is called earth art or eco artwork. In practice, nature therapy, forest therapy, earth therapy, and ecological art therapy are all closely related.

You can find out more about Sarah on her website https://www.earthenvision.com

Keshet is an Expressive Arts Therapist. She offers therapy in person from Artonomy, Dublin, Ireland and online therapy sessions are available through the Covid 19 crisis and beyond. In Expressive Arts Therapy (EXA) clients are supported through engagement with various creative art processes such as visual arts, creative writing and movement. Both life and art require improvisational skills, resilience and the necessary hands on experience of shaping from materials available. When working with creative processes, we gain insight previously unreachable which supports us with life challenges; psychological, emotional, behavioural, trauma, relationships or transitions. Keshet works with both adults and children. Her experience includes working with adults on the autism spectrum and children with life threatening illness. Keshet’s practice is trauma informed and person centred.

Expressive Arts Ireland work in four main areas:

• Therapy

• Education

• Social Change

• Performance and Community Arts

We offer:

• Therapy sessions for individuals and groups.

• Unique M.A. training program aspart of the European graduate School in Switzerland.

• Dynamic groups for personal development. (Weekly sessions)

• Storytelling and Performance for events in schools, festivals, communities, libraries...

Expressive Arts Therapy is founded on the premise that everyone is capable of making meaningful art and that the process and/or product is always helpful to the client.

Therefore, we embody a low skill, high sensitivity approach. We are not technique oriented, but rather gear all our groups and sessions so that any person, regardless of their artistic talent or previous experience, can enter into the process.

We guide the client into their senses and their sensitivity to create work. We look together observantly at what has been created without critique or judgment. There can often be educational or instructional components to the art making that are naturally imbedded within the

groups.

We also hold that the client is the expert of their art and therefore will let meaning emerge through a reflective process that assists the client in discovering their own resources. We call this Aesthetic Analysis, which gives careful attention to what is actually there on the page, in the dance or song and allows for the whole experience to touch them. We do not codify images, colors, movements to any external meaning other than the client’s own experience.

We work in the arts modalities such as: music, theatre, writing, visual arts, storytelling, nature, dance/movement and will often incorporate more than one modality into a session. Intermodal refers to our ability to shift into different art making modalities to bring more of the senses into play, to receive more information about an image, and or to facilitate where the images are leading the client. The therapist is knowledgeable in the language of all these art forms and how they interrelate.

We are grounded in theories from philosophy, sociology, education, ecopsycology, and anthropology as well as psychology that acknowledge arts as medicine. In expressive arts we practice that the making and finding what arrives with reflection is a healing act.

Creating art with sensitive awareness is a similar process as creating our lives.

Mary O'Doherty worked for many years as a company director with TikityBoo, Childrens Theatre Co. and as drama facilitator and drama teacher. It was her work with the Irish Red Cross in 1992 with child refugees from Sarajevo that inspired her to train as a dramatherapist. After completing her MA in Dramatherapy at NUI Maynooth (2009), she worked with children with the Dyspraxia Association and as a child therapist with Doras Buí. She has been working for the HSE in an acute mental health service since 2010. She lectures with the Hdip in Psychotherapy Studies at UCD school of medicine.

Mary would like to see mental health being talked about in schools. Her mission is to facilitate children to learn resilience skills to enable them to communicate difficult feelings, to manage stress and to know when to seek support.
