The Apostle Paul says our problems lie, not in our environment, our background, our past failures and sins...or even our future. Our problem is in how we think.
In Romans 6:1,2 the Apostle Paul seems to jump into the middle of a conversation. Where is he going with this? Find out in this conversation answering Paul's question: "What shall we say, then?"
Sometimes things happen in life that changes everything. Your direction...your goals...your perspective...EVERYTHING! The Apostle Paul had that kind of experience. He wrote about it to the church in Rome. It was a "Launching Pad" for the rest of his life.
If you've ever been in a boat on a stream or river you have discovered if you are trying to head upstream, you must keep paddling. If you stop, you don't stay at the same place, you drift backwards. This is true of many things in life. Quit exercising and get out of shape. Quit practicing and your skills deteriorate. Maybe this is especially true in the Christian life. Quit actively working on developing your relationship with your Heavenly Father and you will soon find you have drifted backwards. What you will be amazed at is how quickly it happens. The Israelites discovered this as we conclude this recounting in the book of Nehemiah.
REPENT! Wow, what an archaic word. A word that for most brings up negative images of shouting street corner preachers or Bible time prophets in sackcloth and ashes. An yet, in reality, not only is it a common sense term but it is a very positive term when used properly. In this message we will explore what that means.
It would be easy, after walking through the historical record of Nehemiah and coming to understand his enemy is our enemy, to decide that we are up against a losing proposition. How do you ever come out on top with such a formidable enemy? Chapter 7 and 8 helps answer that question.
There are difficult things in life to deal with and Nehemiah has run the gamut. But perhaps, few things are so hard...so hurtful...as betrayal. The word by nature indicates this comes at the hand of a friend...a loved one...someone who promised to be there...maybe even stood beside you at the altar and said it before witnesses. The pain runs deep with betrayal. So, knowing that how should we respond to such times? What's a follower of Christ to do with such heartbreak? Take a look at Nehemiah's response to a friend's betrayal to help sort this out.
How do we respond when the attack i personal. When it's meant to bring us down. Rob our strength. Defeat us. Nehemiah knows exactly what that's like and the Bible has recorded for us what he does about it in chapter 6 of Nehemiah.
Nobody escapes conflict. The majority of us don't enjoy contact. But, if you've lived long enough you realize it is simply part of life. So, the only question is, how do I handle conflict in a positive manner? Or, for the follower of Christ, in a godly manner? This message finds Nehemiah right in the middle of some very serious conflict. How he handles it gives us come very practical insight.
In spite of great progress in a record amount of time...the Israelites find themselves extremely discourage and ready to give up. If the pile of rubble as shrunk considerable their fears and concerns have made it seem much larger than ever. Check out Nehemiah's response to their struggles.
Nehemiah and his fellow Jews begin the process of rebuilding. "Picking Up the Pieces". What only hours before seemed like a impossibility now, not only feels possible...they are even excited. They know they are doing what God wants. He's given them clear direction on how to do it and it's time to move forward. But, serving God, doing his will doesn't mean everything will be easy...on the contrary, it might mean just the opposite. But, God has a plan so hang on.
"How do you eat an elephant?" One bite at a time. How do you rebuild a destroyed, protective wall around an entire city? With a demoralized workforce of men, women and children from all walks of life? Nehemiah found a way. This message will explore the "nuts and bolts" of the plan God gave him.
Nehemiah has prayed four months. Hoped four months. Waiting four months. Every day wondering is this the day God opens the door for me to talk to the King and set the plan in motion. But, the waiting goes on. How do you handled those in between times. Those "wait" times. Those "not yet" times.
A guy named Nehemiah is up against an impossible, "where do I begin" task. It's too big! It's too hard! There are just to many variables that are unknown. So what do you do when face with something like that? We'll explore that together in this series.
A guy from the 5th century before Christ found himself up against, what seemed like an impossible situation. One of those "Where do I even start" places. In this series we will follow his journey as, with God's help, he accomplishing a huge task in record time even dealing with intense opposition.
With over 640 laws in the Old Testament, looking for loopholes became a common occurrence. How do you get away from loopholes. Well, Jesus had the answer to that. We look together at his answer in this final message of the series.
Some folks have never seriously looked at Jesus because they just can't get passed what they have been told biblical faith is. This "shut off your brain", "jump into a dark hole", "just got to believe" faith. But is that really biblical faith. This message explores that question.

There are very special gifts God has given each of his followers. They certain bless the one they have been given to but they are primary for the purpose of serving others. This message speaks to seeing ourselves from a new perspective so God can use us.
For those who have stepped into a relationship with God he has given a very special gift. But, for it to accomplish what God has in mind we "followers" need to see ourselves in a new light. This message begins that discussion.

What is a Church? Does True North look like God's expectation of what a church is supposed to be accomplishing? Where did the word "church" even come from?
As we have entered into a New Year some of Moses' message to the Israelites as they were getting ready to step into God's "next" for them are very appropriate for us.
As we begin a New Year, this message helps us mark it by doing some reflection along with the Israelites as Moses speaks to them about their time in the wilderness. Deuteronomy 8:1-5
