Right, this is a good one so I say myself. We did this over Zoom and Sam was very open about his journey to date. Oil rigs, a bit of farming, cold calling to get a job, finding a business partner, and all the trials and tribulations of growing a business. Get that coffee, sit back and listen to my chat with Sam Dyer.

We had a chat with Alex over Zoom due to lockdown. The video is on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube under Bricks and Mortar Mortgages. We covered furloughing, Covi 19, mentors, mistakes, assets, and of course his journey to where he is at the moment. Grab a coffee, sit back, and enjoy my chat with Alex.

A second chat with our guests is always a more relaxed affair. They know what we are about and we can delve a little bit deeper on how things are going. Here I talk with Chris Wood about how things are going at Portolio and he turns the tables on me to ask how things are going at Bricks and Mortar. Always great to chat with Chris and I'm sure you'll find this one a good one.

It is the new must have! An AirBnB or a serviced accomodation property is the must have accessory for your landlord. Better income, less legislation but are you playing by the lending rules. Only a couple of lenders are prepared to dip their toe in this market and this week we talk to one of them. Nigel Hammonds of Scottish Building Society talks Holiday lets and AirBnB and why they have gone into this market.

We talk with a renewables guy this week. It's all heat pumps and ground source things but if you're a landlord this is the kind of thing that you'll need knowledge of as the EPC regs come into force. Have you been stocking up on your tomatoes and pasta ahead of Brexit! Grab a coffee from the kitchen and join me and Emanuel as we have a chat about renewables. Make sure and get down to the shops after the episode as there's not much pasta left!!!!!!!

Starting your own business is hard enough but when you are starting your own legal firm there are a few added complications to throw in - regulation through The Law Society, lenders panels, client accounts and let's not forget the client mandate and the inevitable fall out that brings. But they have done it! Delaney Graham have been up and running since August and have a great story to tell. Grab a coffee and listen into my conversation with Sian Delany and Michael Graham of Delaney Graham.

Sounds like something out of the Wild West doesn't it. Watch out her come the Callaghan Brothers! They are great guys with a great story. Selling Domino Lets to a multiple and then doing what they have always wanted to. A super story and one worth listening to so grab a coffee and I'll let you enjoy. One last thing a prize for anyone who correctly identifies how many times I use the word fantastic in the outro!

And we are back with The Bricks and Mortar Podcast. After over a year on the sidelines as I get Bricks and Mortar Mortgages up and running, the time is right to bring the show back. When I record the interviews, I have never met a great proportion of guests. This can seem daunting as we have to deal with "the awkward getting to know you thing" whilst the recorder is on. It can also have an impact on what the guests are prepared to let you see given the fact that the paint is still wet on rapport that you are still trying to cement. I am glad to say that John and I hit it off straight away and I admire his candid approach to the interview. He certainly looks like this is way that he runs all aspects of his business. It certanly mad for an interesting chat.........

We are back with a bang with a cracking interview. Kenny Martin is an architect draws pictures for a living but he's fed up. We talk professional depression (a phrase I had never heard before) and his entrepreneurial journey to becoming a new build property developer. Fed up acting for clients who would drive away in Land Rovers whilst he worked all hours, he decided that he would cut himself abit of that action. An interesting tale and one that I am sure you will enjoy..............

Me bad! I have been rammed at work over the last number of weeks trying to get the FCA to issue me with my authorisation. The good news is that I now have this and the business of Bricks and Mortar Mortgages is about to launch. I cannot tell you how pleased I am that I have got this to a position where I can now dictate my future. Chris Wood did something similar and through a couple of business, iterations has launched Portolio. I think this has some legs and will be a great addition to help landlords find buyers and investors find property. Listen in and see if Chris can help you!

It looks as if the broadband is back working after a month of dodgy download speeds. That means I can get shows out on a more regular basis. How's this one for starters - my talk on landlord mortgages at last month's Progressive Property Network March meet up. PPN asked me to do address issues in relation to mortgages and those that find themsleves under the new portfolio rules. This may affect you if you are wanting to enter the world of BTL and for those of you who are in that space how about a little refresher?

The Internet is giving me issues at the moment. No way that I can download the show at home. BT promised download speed of 50mg is currently 5mg! Apologies for the delay. Worth the wait, I think you will agree once you have heard my chat with Jane Buchan. It is possible to jack in the job and go full time in property and Jan and her husband are living proof of this. It's not for the faint hearted though. Enjopy this week's episode of The Bricks and Mortar Podcast

And we are back! Being pulled in all directions with work, athletics, FCA, hockey so glad to be back with another episode. We have been interviewed by the cops! This week we talk with Andrew Hosie who is bringing "Rent Locally" over to the west. Already holding a West Lothian franchise for the company he has decided to pick up sticks and move to a new territory and try and establish Glasgow. We talk property, business, coaching and swimming in this one so grab your skinny latte and press start. Enjoy my conversation with Andrew Hosie......................................

Growing your business is all about increasing your network. Getting more people to understand your business so that they can help in a meaningful way when the appropriate time comes. This week I give you some tips on an elevator pitch and how to make that first impression a memorable one.

"If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants." is attributed to Isaac Newton and is a phrase beloved of the mentor and, it has to be said with some justification. No one succeeds alone. Do you think Facebook would have been a success without My Space? Why not stand on the shoulders of giants and learn from their mistakes. And it is all free. Why? Well if you have had the benefit of mentoring then you will want to pay it forward and help the future you. I chat through what mentoring entails in this week's podcast with Carole Anne Morris.

"If it is not written down then it does not exist" - cannot remember which guru came up with this one. It's all about getting your goals down on paper. It's something that I have to admit was lacking throughout my legal career. You just worked hard and by luck rather than judgment you find yourself climbing the greasy pole. Maybe I should have written them down so that I could see where I was going right and wrong. Two years ago I had an epiphany and switched careers and at that stage, it was time to start writing down the goals. But it's not just writing the goals down, it's about the review. No point in having goals if you don't take the time every week to review where you are going. This week I talk through my goals.

And that was 2017..... We end with a great interview with a chap by the name of Philip Howard. I met Philip around two years ago as a fresh-faced youth giving a talk at an ALG event that I attended - he must have looked 12 at the time! I was so taken with his ability that I was surprised when he suddenly disappeared from the ALG firmament. Given the fact that he was introduced as the next big thing I had always wondered what had happened to him. Now both you and I can find out in the last show of 2017 or the first of 2018. Grab a mug, throw over the duvet and dive into the mellifluous tones of Mr Howard - it's back to work tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!

For many with an interest in property, this is just a pipe dream but Ian and his wife decided to take the plunge roll the dice and give it a go. It's been harder than he thought. Marketing has been a challenge. There has been a change in strategy. But after all said and done he would not change it for the world. Are you ready to take the jump? Serviced Accommodation was what everyone started talking about this year. The golden egg that would lead to better profits and less tax. What's not to like! You do however need to have a service mindset not so much beloved of your average landlord. No more waiting to get the heating or the shower fixed. Leaving it a day is not going to go down well with your tenant!. Sandra Martin speaks to me about her entry into Serviced Accommodation, gives advice on getting started as well as the pitfalls. If you want a seat on the Serviced Accommodation train before it leaves the station then grab a ticket and listen in to my chat with Sandra Martin.
