What if you could live a life that 100% represented your singular experience? What if you stopped asking how can I fit into the current society and dominate culture and instead asked what space can I carve out in the world that is mine, and fully supports who I am and what I care about?
In today’s episode I am talking with Yumi Sakugawa comic book illustrator author of I THINK I AM IN FRIEND-LOVE WITH YOU and YOUR ILLUSTRATED GUIDE TO BECOMING ONE WITH THE UNIVERSE.
In this episode we go deep into the ease of ritual, how we can make magic and ceremony, what it means to have tea with our demons and the beauty of embracing our shadow. She invites us to ponder what it would look like if we allowed ourselves to be pioneers of new unexplored emotional, magic, spiritual lands. The possibilities are endless.

Have you ever wondered what people are talking about when they say "Just show up and do the work?" Well, in this episode we are getting deep into what that looked like for Nicole Miyuki watercolorist, teacher and author as she wrote her first book.
This episode is a shining example of what can happen when we follow our hearts and just keep doing the work we love to do and sharing that message with the world. For Nicole she had no idea she was building a brand and had never thought about writing a book until that one right opportunity appeared at her door. If your someone who wonders what your creative contribution may be, listen to Nicole's unconventional path of both doing the daily creative work and allowing the flow and ease to come through.

Today on the podcast I'm asking the question what is ritual, what is ceremony and how can we incorporate rites of passage in our daily life.
Ritual is what we make of it
Tarot Cards mean what meaning we give them
Ceremony is the act of showing up in a way that feels good to you
Honoring and Reverence: come from acknowledging and giving thanks to the moment, people and things.
I have had desire for ceremony, for blessing my space, for opening the circle and having intentions about what I want to invoke in.
I have been pulled to make magical potions, search for medicinal plants in the wild, take mild altering herbs, pull tarot cards, make tinctures, and create my own medicine out of rocks and feathers and rose petals.
And as that desire came through I thought for one second that because I didn’t know much about these things that I needed to go find a book, buy someone’s formula or find someone to tell me how to do it. What formula could I follow that would help me know these words better, ceremony, sacredness, honoring reverence, and who could tell me how to do them?

Bio:
I am captivated by all things metaphysical; the transcendent experience that defies logic, the omen, the prophetic dream, and realms unknown. I explore the esoteric through tarot card readings, meditation, channeling, spirit work, various healing modalities, art, and music.
My background is that of a creator and teacher. I received my MFA from the School of the Art Institute in 2008; I spent the years following working at colleges, touring with my band, reading tarot, and creating art. In 2011, I self-published my first tarot deck, the Laughing Eye Weeping Eye Tarot. It was more successful than I anticipated, as were my tarot readings. People shared that my tarot readings were life-altering and encouraged me to continue. With a ton of support from loved ones as well as faith in the Universe, I left my full time job in 2013 so that I could pursue these passions full-time.
My creative practices also feeds my divination and spiritual work. As an artist and musician, I create works that explore archetypes within the collective unconscious. For example, I am interested in how ancient cave paintings of horned men (or gods) and a wall calendar of deer in one’s home may evoke, unknowingly, a connection to something similar across time and space. It is the timeless that I seek to explore, sometimes in a playful way.
Tarot was my first hook into the metaphysical. I had unusual experiences in my youth (channeling, automatic writing, astral travel) but did not understand or start using these gifts until I created my first deck and began reading from it in 2011. I found that the process of reading unlocked something for me. I am still trying to understand it; This mystery keeps me enthralled.

Brian Bauman is a playwright and founder of Perfect Disgrace Theater, and has been producing experimental queer plays since 2006. Bauman's writing has a cult following and is known as a "playwright's playwright." Suzan-Lori Parks says "Brian Bauman's writing is thrilling, sexy, political and rude. He's making provocative, in-your-face theatre - not for the timid, or, perhaps, just what the timid need." His work has been presented at HERE Arts Center, LaMama Galleria, The Wild Project and Collective Unconscious in NY; The Broad Art Center @ UCLA, Company of Angels Theater, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibtions L.A.C.E., Los Angeles Theater Center, Theatre of NOTE in Los Angeles; CounterPULSE, Poets Theatre Jamboree at California College of Art and the RADAR Reading Series in San Francisco; and the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art and the Dairy Art Center in Colorado. A friend once told me, that whoever has the most certainty wins. So how can we gain more certainty in uncertain waters? This is a short episode where I'm talking about some embarrasing moments I've had around certainty, and an atidote I believe will be helpful for you in embarking on uncertain path.
I had the pleasure of interviewing psychotherpist Abby Bird on the show and we tackled some big things that come up in the middle space. I asked her about the imposter syndrome, comparison trap, and self doubt. She offered some practical tips and creative exercises that she does with her clients. She also talked about how she views her own practice as a form of creative expression, which I found insightful. Creativity truly can arise from anywhere.
Really excited to be sharing this episode I did with Coleen Hodges. She shares her personal story of how she went after her dream of being a photographer, and the challenges that came up in her relationship during the process. Coleen tell an amazing story of when she shared her personal story with other budding photographers and the overwhelming response 900 emails of other women who were feeling the the same exact thing. I knew that I wanted to have her back on the show to talk about this behind the scenes story that rarely gets talked about.
If you haven't listened to Coleeen's episode season 2, definetly go back and check that one out. She runs an amazing organization called Spectrum Inspired a non profit dedicated destygmatizing autism through photography and art.

I’m a writer, tarot reader, fun-lover, and a kitchen magician. I firmly believe that we can all be heroes and heroines if we utilize the powers of our unconscious minds!
I was first introduced to Tarot in 2013 when a couple of my best girlfriends did an oracle card reading for me. I was shocked at the resonant power of the messages that came through. That night, I experienced a profound moment of urgency about the direction my life was moving in. Something was missing, I could feel it, and the cards were reflecting that. I got my own deck and started doing Tarot for myself not long after that. I ordered a nice fat stack of Tarot books and devoured all of the knowledge I could. At first I didn’t think I could learn it all – 78 different cards?? Each with myriad and multifaceted meanings, and I didn’t even want to think about reversals…
But my passion for Tarot continued to grow and so I kept at it, reading and highlighting, pulling cards, journaling, and eventually sharing my obsession with my family. In the meantime, I also wrote three novels, each involving the supernatural and including Tarot as an element. I used Tarot to write my books, chapter by chapter, pulling cards whenever I was confused or I didn’t know what happened next. In this way, I learned how to work with the cards around creativity. I learned that they can be an amazing resource for blasting through creative blockages and for clarifying those brilliant, gleaming flashes of inspiration I’d get about my stories. The archetypal images on the Tarot cards helped me bring them into focused concepts that I could nail down in text.

I am part nerd, part creative, out on a missions to help amazing women with their analytics and online tools.
I believe that analytics don't need to feel like you are weighing yourself, that your online tools shouldn't be wasting your time, and that you can work on your business in a way that creates energy (instead of draining it).
I love to work with creative businesses as a 'secret digital weapon', complimenting what you already do best; run an inspiring business that changes how things are done in the world!

Hey there! My name is Sarah Natsumi Moore and I am a photographer, explorer, and ponderer. I started out 2016 with a list of lofty goals, full of metrics and benchmarks that seemed important at the time of writing, but two weeks into the year realized I no longer cared to “make more money” or “grow my Instagram followers.” I put the list away and took comfort In the Great British Baking Show (it's good I swear!).
So for the next year I’m trading these New Year’s resolutions for a series of life experiments—12 monthly experiments to be exact. Instead of focusing on success, prestige or image, I am going to spend each month as a guinea pig living in a way that challenges my fears and/or questions my current way of living. I want to explore life’s big questions while also testing simple habits that create contentment. It will be my personal research on being.
While this Sonoma Valley transplant hails from Arizona, Danielle spent her transformative, post-college, early adult “discovering the world years” living in the Midwestern United States, but traveling the world. Working in the car racing industry for what seemed like a life time, specializing in the “left brain” work of accounting and finance, building businesses, sponsorships and marketing left her feeling like there just HAD to be something more creative on the horizon.
Now the creator of her own destiny (and schedule) Danielle is growing her own enterprise as a Business and Lifestyle Strategist and Coach, Desire Map facilitator and all around go-to girl for most things “productivity through technology”. Not as much world travel as auto racing, but WAY more time for the good life in the Bay area.
Mama of two littles, lover of binge watching tv (Helloooo Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Video) and dreamer of tiny pockets of free time for creativity, Danielle has a true desire share space with other creative women and prove that when they get together to collaborate, support and lift one another to new heights, so much more is possible.

Before becoming a Designer, Jen received a degree in Psychology with a minor in Anthropology from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. While Anthropology stimulated her fascination with varying cultures, and Psychology explored the area of social work, both were lacking the creative outlet she yearned for. She seized the opportunity to move to Macerata, Italy to study Italian art and learn the language while being submerged in the culture. She soon began to realize that her passions for both design and helping people could culminate in an exciting career. After moving to San Diego, she enrolled in design school where it became apparent that design was in her nature as she graduated with top honors while simultaneously working at a high profile model home design firm. Over the following eight years she additionally dabbled in closet design, kitchen re-facing, upholstery, and professional real estate staging. By far, the most important outcome of these cumulative experiences was her realization that she wanted to design on a more personal level. Through her extensive experience in these many different aspects of the industry, she has refined a keen design eye for color and layout and an ability to work with a wide array of clientele and design tastes. And while high-end remodels and model homes were interesting, she prefers the joy and ease of the collaboration with clients who are budget conscious but who need help sprucing up their spaces. Jen explains: “I don’t want design to be unapproachable and scary for people. Designing your home should be fun, rewarding, and exciting, and it’s my job to make that happen!”

Wes Sam Bruce an artist, film maker, photographer and art educator.
Wes created an art installation called that wonder sound that is a collaboration of people here in San Diego and art makers from all over.
The result is this amazing fort like space that has small tunnels to crawl through, a rope room to climb up, and words and art decorated all it around.
One of the main intents of the wonder sound was to represent a culture that was not your own, in the language, architecture animals and word written on the wall. The idea was that by being in an environment that was not native to you, you could begin to grow that cultural empathy muscle.
I had a great time interviewing I Am Bob aka Stephanie S about her path towards embracing her talents as a singer and her challenges and victories that she accomplished.
We talked about the imposter Syndrome & what she said was more of a fall rather than a leap into taking risks and over coming fears.
We talked about managing fears vs trying to get rid of them, and stepping into her light which she has realized is making people laugh.
Stephanie is one of the funniest people I know and love, and I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I did. Check out all of her upcoming performances and gigs or find her at the local Karaoke bar.
