Being the largest book in the Bible, Psalms contains 150 individual chapters and stands in contrast to other books of the Bible. Instead of speaking to us with instruction and directives, Psalms reveals a conversation with God that expresses anger, joy, worship, fear, and sorrow. This example encourages us to continue that vulnerable conversation with God.

Only in Jesus can you find your God-given purpose and use your gifts to maximize your impact to be a true world changer. But, we will never experience the growth and gains that God intends for us until we start pouring into others. We can leave a powerful spiritual legacy if we will intentionally pass the baton of faith to the next generation.

Life is a race that many of us find ourselves wondering if we can finish. In our series, Passing The Baton, we learn to understand that this race is not just about us. God encourages us to invest and encourage others as we run this race we call our spiritual journey. We will never experience the growth and gains that God intends for us until we start pouring into others. We can leave a powerful spiritual legacy if we will intentionally pass the baton of faith to the next generation.

Jesus modeling humility for all of us. God wants us to imitate Jesus in how we serve and love others. This is how we live in humility. Jesus had a hunger that always involved people and His mission was to seek and save the lost. Jesus’ slow, deliberate steps toward His mission were a direct result of His connectedness with His Father. Jesus never ran, He walked. And He calls us to walk, too.

In our society, more is more, but Jesus consistently taught and modeled that the more you’re looking for is found in less. The way to become full is to empty yourself. Lay down your pride, rights, and desire to control the outcomes. God doesn’t want you to be dependent upon something temporary because His kingdom is forever.

God’s plans for your future are too big to hold onto an offense.  We tend to hide, literally now, behind our masks.  He knew the mission of the Church was far too critical to get caught up in secondary issues. As we love each other, we show the love of Jesus to a world that desperately needs Him.

The opposite of fear isn’t faith, it is love. Now is the time for the church to demonstrate to the world where we place our hope. It isn’t in our health, our money, our daily routine—it is in our God. God is a waymaker, miracle worker, a promise keeper, and light in the darkness. Our circumstances might change, but our God is unshakeable.

Let’s talk about faith and politics! There are few things as divisive as politics. The question for followers of Jesus is: Are we willing to evaluate out politics through the filters of faith rather than create a version of faith that supports our politics? Jesus didn’t call everyone to agree on everything, but He did command His followers to be united bu unconditional love. Can we agree to disagree without being disagreeable about politics because our first loyalty is to Jesus. Don’t get so focused on politics that it becomes an idol.

We are going to walk through some biblical words and how to practically apply them to our lives. These words are actually quite simple — there isn’t anything in this list of words that’s going to blow your mind. However, there is a tremendous amount of courage and conviction behind each word that God will use to bring about transformation in our lives.

We are kicking off 2020, a New Year and a New Decade, with a new series of messages called Life Changing Words. We are going to walk through some very biblical words that are very simple words. There isn’t going to be anything in this list of words that is going to blow your mind. But, actually there is a tremendous amount of courage and conviction behind that word that God wants to use to bring about transformation in each of our lives.

Tuning in to the "wow" that is already in our hearts can genuinely bring about real change to our lives. In Revelation 4, John has done his best to describe for us a worship experience, what it looks and feels like to enter into the presence of God--a true "wow" experience. Our lives can change when we learn to worship God not for what we see, but for who He is. When you can’t work or worry your way through a difficult season, you can worship through it.

As the church in this region, we are not trying to influence others to make a difference, we are the difference makers. We are not waiting for someone else to step up to lead the change we envision, we are the God ordained change agents. If our communities and region are going to see breakthrough, it’s going to come when godly leaders and Christians realize that God has called us to be the life of God to bring life into our city streets.

The world has known many great authors. Some have penned words that changed the hearts and minds of the masses. Few have written books, poems, and lyrics that have altered history. But only one man, a man whose own story changed the world, can be called The Greatest Storyteller.

Every hero has flaws, even the ones we read about in the Bible. In the life of David—a king of Israel and a man after God’s own heart—we see a hero with glimpses of greatness and wounds of pride. Through David’s failures, challenges, and triumphs, we see a greater Hero. The hero was not David, but God Himself. God humbled David and pointed people back to the one, true, King.

I love The United States of America, would you say that you like the United States too? If we think about it, there are different slogans that we want to define our nation: “One Nation Under God” or “In God that We Trust.” If we look around our society today we have to be honest with ourselves: Does that really describe who we are as a country? A lot of us probably have some concerns about that. The issues in America are not a generational issue, race issue, or even political party issue…it a swaying away from the truth issue. So today, I want us to look at a popular story found in the Old Testament and parallel this story involving the nation of Israel to where we find ourselves today as Americans.

Moses is just a regular, ordinary guy who was born into some pretty remarkable circumstances. He made some mistakes, he let his temper get the best of him from time to time, he was filled with self- doubt and regret – much like you and me – and yet God took who he was; not who Moses wished he would be, but who he was. And God did something significant through him that would impact thousands and thousands of people. And his story is recorded in the Old Testament books of Exodus and Deuteronomy.

Each of us spends our lives on a journey toward God. Often our most deeply felt longings—for meaning, for love, for significance—end up leading us away from, instead of toward, our Creator and the person he made us to be.

Finding Your Way Back to God shows how to understand and listen to your longings in a whole new way. It’s about waking up to who you really are, and daring to believe that God wants to be found even more than you want to find him. It’s about making the biggest wager of your life as you ask God to make himself known to you. And it’s about watching what happens next.

Praying to God can feel a lot like wishful thinking. We know we should pray, but how? And when we pray, is God listening? Does He care? And if He already knows what we need, what's the point?

What if prayer wasn't about wishful thinking, but about emptying ourselves enough to hear from God? Over the next couple of weeks, we will see that prayer is more about us getting aligned with God than Him being aligned with us. Prayer is more than just wishful thinking. God is always listening, and with tremendous power, He speaks to us.

Rather than being the one with all the answers, Jesus is sometimes the one who asks us questions--questions that force us to decide what we really believe. In The Counselor, Jesus asks "Why are you so afraid," "Do you believe I can do this," "Do you want to get well," and "Why do you doubt?"
