Dimestore Radio Theater #173

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

Austin is out of town this week, but Mr. Fab is engineering and lending a hand, so that you can hear the show, anyway! And we have another regular installment of our program: Richard Diamond, Rocky Jordan, Blackstone: The Magic Detective, and X-Minus One. There’s also another bit of our documentary feature, The Century. But more than anything, it’s another step forward as we review the past and consider it now, here, in the Future.

Jukebox Jam 4: Live Archive Two!

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat. (The Digital Salon)

We return to the “jukebox” well, as I present a number of live recordings from the archives, and shuffle them together sort of randomly, as is my want. This is number 4 in a series of shows like this, with a little less “theme” than normal, but with still plenty of the bells and whistles (and changing record sounds) that you find in a show like this. Maulydaft sent in a little sound clip that got lots of play during the show, and given the date, we play the short story, “There Will Come Soft Rains,” as read by Leonard Nimoy, a story that was set on August 4th, 2026 / August 5th. The Digital Salon is fairly lively, and on the whole, we relive a wide range of tunes from live performances of the past, and present them to you, in the future!

Dimestore Radio Theater #172 – New New Time! Same Same Show!

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

This is our first episode of Dimestore Radio Thater at our new, earlier time, freeing up our Monday Evenings! The show hasn’t changed, but the time – and our orientation for a little while anyway – will need a little adjusting. Please, join us on this strange and unusual adventure.

An accidentally switched laundry bag causes no end of headaches for Richard Diamond, who not only attracts the ire of few local hoods, but ends up needing to get the police involved to put the right bag in the right hands. Meanwhile, after witnessing a car crash where the driver had died, Rocky Jordan is offered an incredible amount of money to solve the case. But the further he investigates, the more people he meets who could very well have done it themselves. Can Rocky find the killer, or will he need the help of local police to get out of this one?

After a short installment of Dimestore Revelations, and another clip of The Century, we return to Blackstone, The Magic Detective, and find that he was out in Hollywood, working on a movie, when he and Rhoda get embroiled in a kidnapping case. Rhoda and Blackstone use a few well-known magic tricks to communicate with each other secretly, and to find the kidnapped baby (as well as foil the kidnapper). And lastly, in X-Minus One, we bring you the story of Shock Troop, a tale about a space ship with a crew so small, that they colonize individual creatures, by acting almost like a virus.

It’s old time radio on your new-fangled device! Enjoy!

Waves-A-Poppin’: An Audio Adventure For National Waterpark Day! (w/ Special Co-Host, Miss Rikki)

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat. (The Digital Salon)

Several years ago, Waves-A-Poppin’, a local waterpark here in the Mid-Valley, was installed, to fanfare and excitement that was, frankly, completely unwarranted. However, this has not stopped them from trying to build up a little excitement about the park, and to – hopefully – drum up some business after a documentary crew has been called in to show people what the park has to offer.

Against our better judgement, we give you this glimpse into what makes this park unique, and gives you a chance to experience Waves-A-Poppin’ from the comfort of your own home. To help increase your entertainment, special occasional co-host, Miss Rikki, has been recruited to do the voice-overs for this documentary.

It’s summer fun fun. On the summer radio – o.

Dimestore Radio Theater #171

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

This week is all dental records and “Third Base!” as Richard Diamond finds himself embroiled in two different requests on his time and talents, only to find that he’s being approached from different angles on the same case. Only on he should would a funeral, a Dentist, and a women’s baseball team all turn out to depend on how good Diamond is At The Bat. Then, it’s trouble for Rocky Jordan this week, as he attempts to care for a little girl, left with him by their mother, Clara. However, local thugs kidnap the girl, who is then left with a man who gets murdered, after which the girl disappears. Can Rocky unravel the murder, the case of the missing girl, and stay out of jail, all before he becomes the next victim?

Meanwhile, Blackstone is invited to help a friend of his – A Count – uncover the secret of a scam that seems to happen whenever a local Raja performs a seance. It seems as if everyone’s valuables disappear, but Blackstone is sure it’s just a simple trick, that even he can re-create. Lastly, we hear from X-Minus One, and their story this week, “The Coffin Cure.” What happens when a group of scientists decide to find a cure for the common cold, and manage to nearly eradicate it, completely? Wait a minute? What’s that… smell?

This is the LAST episode of Dimestore Radio Theater to air at this time. We’ll be moving to an earlier time on Mondays, starting next week. Thank you!

Howlin’ At The Doom Part 7: Woody & Harry

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat. (The Digital Salon)

On July 14th, both Woody Guthrie and Harry Dean Stanton celebrated birthdays. In many ways, they are reflections of one another: lonely artists, traveling the world, trying to find some sense and meaning while both exercising their creative muscles to make a place for them out in the world. Both left behind incredible bodies of work, and each were featured in documentaries about their lives. We get around to celebrating their lives – and their births – in this three-hour exploration of their work.

We focus on listener requests and clips from these features, to paint a picture of the lives of two artists I love quite a bit. We also get a call from Bandit, singing the praises of Guthrie’s output, and we keep the flow going, to give you a more complete picture. We have at least one more “Woody & Harry” show in the chamber, so if you liked this one, stay tuned. There will be more!

Dimestore Radio Theater: The 57th Anniversary of The Moon Landing Special!

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

On the anniversary of the first landing on the Moon, 57 years ago, we offer a series of broadcasts about Luna, our celestial neighbor who always has a friendly face to shine toward us. This is a chance to feature three stories we’ve aired before, but this time, “rebuilt and re-mastered” to give you a premium listening experience. It’s complete lunacy, and we invite you to join us.

We dip back into the catalog of Dimension X, and bring you three stories about the moon itself: “Destination Moon,” about the crew of the first ship headed to the moon, “The Man In The Moon,” about illegal radio broadcasts that appear to be coming from… The Moon itself? And of course, the Heinlein scripted, “Requiem,” about someone who has been wanting to visit the moon their entire life, and what happens when they finally get to make the trip.

We cap this off with James Burke documentary about our trips to the Moon, and an episode of The Planet Man about almost landing on the Moon. We also announce that our show will be moving to an earlier time, Monday Mornings. Check the WFMU “Sheena’s Jungle Room” schedule for more information!

A Conversation w/ The Crew of The Film “All Figured Out”

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat. (The Digital Salon)

We speak with Brendan Tarver and William Twist of the film production, “All Figured Out,” a movie being made RIGHT HERE in the Mid-Valley, filmed and cast with locals who are all interested in making something interesting, and local. In-between conversations that last the entire three hours, Brendan and William offer DJ selections. Not only does the film feature a band that is central to the story – another Mid-Valley creation, Spit Locket – but Brendan writes to music as he develops his scripts, and he picked very specific set of songs that offer insight into characters, film ideas, and his take on how the music of the northwest is infused with the film they’re making.

It’s three hours dedicated to the minds of Brendan and William. We get to know them, their tastes, and their music… and hopefully turn you onto a film that you might enjoy, when all is said and done.

Dimestore Radio Theater’s Movies On The Radio Double Feature: Dick Powell Part 4

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

Summer’s ready when you are, and during this time of year, we like to give the staff a break, and air some longer stories that you don’t get to hear during the rest of the year. And, picking up where we left off last week, here are the other two features starring the incomparable Dick Powell himself, radio veteran who had quite a bit of range, as you’ll hear tonight.

We start off with the Lux Radio Theater presentation of the musical, “My Gal Sal,” staring Rita Hayworth & Dick Powell. When a small-town entertainer realizes that he needs a new town and a new image to make it in show-biz, he manages to impress a singer with his songs, who wants to use them in her act… but doesn’t really want anything more. Can he persuade her into a romance that crosses the lines between stage and real life?

Then, in our second hour, we offer you the crime thriller, “To The Ends of The Earth.” Dick Powell plays an FBI agent, out to stop drugs from getting into the US, and he’ll travel to the ends of the earth to do it. In a story that covers a number of locations, and offers romance and spy craft, this is adventure on the radio, and a good way to enjoy a Monday night.

All this, and so much more, on this week’s installment of Dimestore Radio Theater!

Eila Star, LIVE! (w/ Brad Anderson & Mac Dawg Interviews!)

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat. (The Digital Salon)

In what was a somewhat chaotic, but otherwise memorable and fun broadcast from the Lava Lamp Lounge Annex (my garage), we had the lovely and talented Eila Star join me for three hours of DJing, conversating, and in one instance, playing live on the radio! All of that, and more, in the action-packed, three hour show!

First, the incomparable Brad Anderson calls in, to talk about the show he’s playing with Eila Star and myself on Saturday, at the Portland Arts Collective. Brad is no stranger to the show, and it’s always nice to get his perspective. This time, he talks up some of his fave artists and influences, some of which we play during the show.

Then, in Hour 2, we get Mac Dawg on the line, recent collaborator working with the Dead Air Fresheners, who just put out an album together. We get the whole story, and get a taste of what Mac Dawg is like when they are freestylin’.

Then, get ready, because we get a live performance from Eila Star, and a jam session with Mini-Mutations and Valarie – a sort of Star Mutations – which ends up including callers from the Digital Salon, too. All the while, Valarie is picking the tunes, and keeping the show on track. It’s a great taste of their interests, and it’s a great way to get pumped for the show on Saturday.

This one is jam-packed. Dig in!

Dimestore Radio Theater’s Movies On The Radio Double Feature: Dick Powell Part 3

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

Summer’s ready when you are, and during this time of year, we like to give the staff a break, and air some longer stories that you don’t get to hear during the rest of the year. And, picking up where we left off last year, we have four more features starring the incomparable Dick Powell himself, radio veteran who had quite a bit of range, as you’ll hear tonight.

We start off with the Lux Radio Theater presentation of, “Springtime In The Rockies,” staring Betty Grable, Dick Powell, and Carmen Miranda, in one of those romantic comedies set in the world of entertainment, where the song and dance team of Dan and Vicki is on the rocks, and she’s left him for another man, Victor. Dan must use all of his resources available – including a recently hired valet and secretary – to win her back, so they can appear in a show that could earn them a nice paycheck. Can Dan prove to Vicki that it isn’t just money and women that’s on him mind?

Then, in our second hour, we offer you the romantic drama of “Mrs. Mike,” based on successful the novel, and then film of the same name. Mike – one of the Mounted Police in Canada – meets Catherine, a girl from Boston. As the film charts the course of their relationship, we find them following Mike’s job as a mountie, leading them to rural areas, helping those in need, and facing hardships that would test any relationship, no matter how strong. Can Mike and Catherine endure the difficulties of the Great White North, and find a place where they can both let their respective love bloom?

All this, and so much more, on this week’s installment of Dimestore Radio Theater!

Xeronian ZigZag #1 (x/ Xeres of Xeron!)

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat

Our long-time friend and colleague, Xeres of Xeron, returns to the show, to offer his own take on the “jukebox” theme, by offering a wide ranging mix of music and tunes that are near and dear to his heart. Aside from some production details, this show was entirely sequenced and written by Xeres, giving it a different flavor than your average show.

We also continue to promote the show coming up on July 11th, with The Dead Air Fresheners, Brad Anderson, and Eila Star. This show is gonna be a lot of fun, and since it’s happening at the Portland Arts Collective, you’ll be in the heart of Old Town Portland, a good chance to appreciate a part of the Northwest that is unique and fun. Several of these folks, from this show, will be joining me on the air next week, on July 7th, to talk up the show, and give listeners a taste of what they can expect. It should be a good time, and you should join us, if you can.

We also hear from a new addition to the Lava Lamp Lounge: a new keyboard, that I play a couple times throughout the show.

And: don’t forget Graffiti Man!

Dimestore Radio Theater #170

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

Taking a simple case is never simple for Richard Diamond, especially when he’s hired by someone who turns up dead before he can even get to know what he’ll be doing trying to suss out The Evans Farmer Case. Before long Diamond is on the case, looking into insurance fraud, and enjoying a set of local cabins in the area. Meanwhile, Rocky Jordan is woken in the middle of the night by a Paul Frees character who tries to extort him, leading Rocky into a Shakedown that involves the Italian Government, his friend Sam, and a part of Rocky’s past that might come back to kill him, if he’s not careful.

In Hour 2, we offer another installment of “The Century” as part of Dimestore Revelations. Then, Blackstone is hired to help foil some diamond thefts, by using a magnetized coin and a compass built into his watch to show what a pair of scam artists were really doing. Lastly, we offer the X-Minus One story “Lulu,” about a computer in a spaceship that goes crazy and nearly kills the crew inside… all because she fell in love?

Jukebox Jams 3: By The Seat of Our Pants

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat

We offer another Jukebox Show this week, where Austin is looking through his archive of different things that he hasn’t played on the show in a while, and… plays them on the show. Music new, old, connecting to current events, and in some cases, just good songs worth hearing again.

Bandit calls in a couple times this week, but experiences some problems, including getting hit in the head by things falling out of their closet, and having complete chaos break out in their home. Later they call to mention the discovery of some very strange dolls in their closet. We also promote the upcoming appearance on the show by Valarie of Eila Star, who in turn will be promoting a show they are playing in Portland, on July 11th, DJing, playing live, and all the usual things that make radio fun.

We are also treated to some information about how jukeboxes actually work. And: the return of the delay pedal!

Two Helens are better than one this week, as we have two stories with characters named Helen! First up, we seen Richard Diamond & his girlfriend, Helen, out on a date at a Carnival. However, it doesn’t take long before murder, clowns, wrestlers and psychics are conspiring to turn Diamond’s off-hours into. a very deadly case that needs solving, and fast! Meanwhile, our good friend Rocky Jordan, an encounter with a businessman in search of a new way to sell old beer, leads Rocky to get involved in a murder, a Professor and his wife Helen, and a narcotics smuggling ring that could spell certain doom for Rocky, if he’s not careful.

Jukebox Jams 2: Live From “What’s This Called?”

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat

It’s another one of our patented, “Jukebox” shows, where we play a lot of music, and we have less of the collage / cut-ups that usually occur. This week, we focus all on music performed live, by artists who appeared on the, “What’s This Called?” radio show, when I was the sound engineer, and worked with the bands to bring you the music that you hear. We cover a wide range of bands and performers in three hours, and it’s a fun journey into radio past, that sounds pretty modern, to this ear.

In addition to that, we spend some time plugging the upcoming interview with The Outside Agitators, who are on tour this month, and will be joining the show NEXT WEEK, to talk about music and touring and stuff like that. We play some samples of their music, and suggest that you tune in, to hear more next week.

And: Bandit and I make a breakthrough, and then they call back to play samples of their new jukebox for our listeners.

Dimestore Radio Theater #166

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

It seems as if Richard Diamond is in over his head this week, as he is hired to chaperone a kidnapping / ransom trade off, only to get knocked out, to find the money stolen, and the kidnappee has been murdered. It’s going to talk all of his police connections and quick thinking to get out of this one. Meanwhile, a murder outside of Rocky Jordan‘s cafe causes him to get mixed up in proving the innocence of a local beggar, who keeps to himself and works well with Rocky. Perhaps a Pyramid Prognosticator, some unusual investments, and the aid of Sam Sabaaya and the local police can bring this case to a close?

In hour 2, we offer another installment of “The Century” as part of Dimestore Revelations. Then, Blackstone and Rhoda tell a story of a trick, that involves audience members firing guns at a cabinet, during which, a group of toughs decide to take this opportunity to actually shoot at Blackstone himself! And finally, on X-Minus One, in a story titled, “A Wind Is Rising,” we hear a story of human colonists, trying to survive on a planet with 212 MPH winds. They meet a race of creatures who are much better suited to live there, but can the humans learn from the Carellans, before it’s too late?

It’s another one of our patented “Holi-Day & Date” presentations, just in time for the Memorial Day sales that all seem a bit in poor taste, in some way. Regardless, we take to the air, and re-enact the Revolution itself, as we work our way through two stories that were originally aired on May 25th, many years ago.

First, we bring you the Lux Radio Theater version of “Test Pilot,” the adventure-filled romance, with all of the primary cast from the film replaced with Robert Taylor, Rita Hayworth, and Robert Preston. Can a man in love with being in the air find room in his heart for a woman on the ground? Then, in an episode of The CBS Radio Mystery Theater, we offer a tale of one man’s struggle against a government that does not represent his values, as we follow the story of Benedict Arnold, in The Spy and The Traitor. Turn back the clock on this particular day in radio history, as we offer you this year’s Holi-Day & Date presentation.

https://ia600502.us.archive.org/6/items/mutation-457/Mutation457.mp3We close the show with a longer conversation about working as a creative artist in modern times, and offer a chance for listeners to hear / watch Scot’s latest piece, “The Fall of Icarus,” which is a fully realized film with a live performance. We offer the YouTube Link for people to access during the show, and for those who watch the video person of this podcast, you can see and listen to the entire “Fall of Icarus” piece, as part of that production.

I always enjoy talking to Scot about the world of experimental music and art, and it was a wonderful chance to open that conversation up to different perspectives in that world, too. Wrestling is still on the menu this week, as Richard Diamond gets wrapped up in a case with his wrestling friend Seymour, after a mysterious dead man shows up on Diamond’s doorstep, with an ice pick in him. They work their way through deceitful doctors and other Gym Rats, in an effort to find out exactly who this man had to die. Meanwhile, an old friend of Rocky Jordan shows up to offer him the chance to manage a Copper Mine, which leads to a number of complications, with a mysterious brother, a death connected to the old friend, and plenty of intrigue on the streets of Cairo. .

In hour 2, we offer another installment of “The Century” as part of Dimestore Revelations. This week, Blackstone and Rhoda go to see a Swami with an usual act, but it quickly veers into horror as an audience member seems to disappear into the spirit realm – dead – leaving the mother in shock and susceptible to the worst inclinations of this horrific swami. And finally, in a X-Minus One adaptation of a Robert Sheckley short story, a misunderstanding between a group of colonists and a single settler on their own, leads to a ridiculous scenario where the colonists assume the settler is part of a larger group, who are up to nefarious ends. Can this gentleman convince the colonists that there isn’t a, “Native Problem”?

Barno was unavailable again this week, and as it the case whenever he is out, we continue to work our way through the Word Jazz series of radio shows, so we can catch up with Mr. Nordine again. Ken seems to be on a roll with his spoken word song pieces, and incorporates a few cuts from the “Colors” album amid the chaos and beauty.

Spring Jukebox

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat

As Spring rages on, and as there continues to be less and less free time available to work on new shows, we help clear a little runway, by offering another “Jukebox” show, featuring a playlist of music, with almost no collage elements to speak of. It’s three hours of experimental tunes that are near and dear to our heart, and you get to reap the rewards.

Fairly deep into the show I make another plug for the upcoming Point Line Plane tour, which begins TOMORROW, in Vancouver BC, and continues through the Northwest and Midwest, giving you a chance to see these legendary synth-punk masters give you an audio flogging that you will learn to love.

There’s a bit of a theme, of music that was given to us by artists that played on the show, in one form or another, over the years. This was mostly an accidental sub-theme, and had nothing to do with intent. But it was nice to hear a lot of tunes that remind me of some of the more exciting moments in the show’s history.

Hopefully we can get back into the mix of things next week.

Dimestore Radio Theater #164

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

This week, Richard Diamond is hired by a local wrestler, who is convinced that a so-called “hit-and-run” death of his truck driving friend, Mike Burton, is more than just an accident. It doesn’t take long before Diamond is immersed in a smuggling operation that could spell certain death for everyone involved. Meanwhile, Rocky Jordan and his bartender Chris observe an emergency plane landing in the desert, and as they continue to investigate, find that being a witness to even that causes them to get mixed up in stolen ivory statues, sacred to the Memlooks tribe.

In hour 2, we offer another installment of “The Century” as part of Dimestore Revelations. Over with Blackstone, this week, a series of robberies causes him to investigate a fortune teller with an airtight alibi, and a Chess-Playing “mechanical Turk” that seems to be the most likely source of the trouble. And finally, in X-Minus One, the story “Tsylana” offers an unusual view of a perfect utopia, save for one problem: Norman Blake has decided that he must become a deviant, if he wants to save this perfect world from the first common thief in years.

The Point Line Plane Story

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat

The clock rewinds, and suddenly, now is then, and vice versa. Science and geometry are no longer playing by the rules of the game. The universe has decided to re-align, and in this iteration, we get another chance to see Point Line Plane, return from the past to haunt the present with their particular Synth Punk Sound. Not only are they touring again, but they are considering making another run at being a live act, with excellent results from this point of view.

Over the course of two interviews, and by playing an assortment of live and rare recordings, plus samples of their remastered first album, we offer the complete story of Point Line Plane, as we talk to both band members, and try to give you the full story of this incredibly creative, and fun, period in Portland Music History. Occasional old man talk about how much fun 20 years ago is, unfortunately, the cost of admission.

Dimestore Radio Theater’s May the Fourth Special!

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

For those of you who live in past – maybe it was long, long ago? – then this holiday might evoke certain kinds of nostalgia that you might have mixed feeling about. So it is our pleasure to zig when you thought we would zag, and instead bring you the first seven installments of the 1935 Flash Gordon radio serial.

And, during a very special edition of Dimestore Revelations, we get into the background of the making of Star Wars, how the Flash Gordon serials inspired it, and how Star Wars inspired the 1980 Flash Gordon movie.

It’s a heaping helping of not-quite Star Wars for your May the Fourth Celebrations.

Fumblin’ With The Blues (Part 2)

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat

We continue our exploration of Blues music, in a variety of forms and styles, genres, and from different periods, in an effort to soak in the wisdom that others have already gleaned from this kind of music. We move through time and through our record collection, dipping into different ways that the Blues has taken form, some obvious, some surprising.

As a sub-theme, we offer a preview of next week’s show, and a small promotion for their shows this weekend, as we play a few “blues” tunes by Point Line Plane, a band that has rebooted recently, and is playing a show in Eugene this Friday, and in Salem this Saturday. It’s exciting to see them back in action, and it was a lot of fun to revisit their music.

We close the show this week with An Afterparty, where we offer a live performance from the archives, with Blue Light Curtain, who were on the show almost 20 years ago. While the recording is old, the performance still feels heartfelt, intense, and beautiful, all these years later.

Fumblin’ With The Blues (Part 1)

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat

I’m not sure if I could be more unhappy as of late, and nothing really seems as fun or as important as it once was. There’s no doubt about it: I’ve been fumblin’ with the blues quite a bit lately, and it seemed like a good time to actually play a large grip of Blues songs, to help reflect my mood on the radio. There’s not a lot of mixing or anything like that. Instead, we cover a wide and vast range of blue music – including a full live set by Hairspray Blues, and Portland due that was on the show almost 20 years ago. There’s a lot of old stuff, some new-ish stuff, and I try my best to get things off my chest. Perhaps you can weigh in on the results.

Tune in for stories that are as wacky as the tabbacy depicted in these hard-to-believe tales of Last Friday. Stand By For Crime, The Blue Beetle, Judy & Jane, The Roy Rogers Show and The Whisperer all offer different takes on this social disease that will only continue to proliferate, over the decades, until there’s nothing left to do but legalize it. By The Seat of Our Pants II (28th Anniversary Show)

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat

Still in full recovery mode from our recent tour, we continue to fly by the seat of our pants, and offer more Feynman / Holmes mash-ups, as a way of celebrating the 28th Anniversary of my first radio broadcast. While I don’t really have much planned for an auspicious occasion such as this, our recent tour and other radio shenanigans were sort of that celebration anyway, and with other plans on the horizon, a couple of weeks of improvised, on the spot, made-up-as-we-go radio seemed the most appropriate. After a long and thick mix in Hour 1, we go into Steve Wynn’s guide to rating classic records, and take a call from someone who had a few thoughts on the subject. We throw in a bit more mixing, take a few requests, and offer two excerpts from the live archive, to wrap up the show. It’s just like the radio you’ve come to know over the last 28 years, and we hope it tees us up properly for another 28 or so.

Meanwhile, Rocky Jordan is forced, but local thugs, into starting a gambling ring in his Cafe’s basement, in, “The Big Gamble.” Will Rocky be able to inform the police before the thugs decide to rub him out? We offer our second installment of a new documentary during “Dimestore Revelations,” as we explore Peter Jenning’s “The Century.” Blackstone used some old coins to trick some wannabe thieves, in, “The Coins of Confucius.” Our final story tonight from X-Minus One is the repeat, “The Saucer of Loneliness,” where a man, a woman, and an alien craft from far away, all find that they have one thing in common. We offer a taste of a new circuit-bend item made by univac – The One Hand Jam – and we do our best to return to our usual shenanigans, after having been away for so long. Mid-Valley Mutations vs. Radio TroUBle / Radio TroUBle vs. Mid-Valley Mutations! (Part II)

Radio TroUBle Archives

Radio TroUBle Playlist

Not only is this the second time that our shows have joined forces – see our previous six our epic – but this time we have new rules that keeps the show interesting, exciting, and certainly in-the-moment!

Premise: There are four DJs: pxe, das, univac & Austin. We are each playing songs, going in a circle, round robin style. This goes on for the entire six hours, natch.

However, each of us has been allowed two “wild cards,” where we can ring a bell, and institute, “Monkey Mutation Madness,” where all four of us are playing sound clips and recordings, trying to create a longer, and more dynamic, piece of radio that could only be done as a group, in person!

With eight wild cards, spread out over six hours and two streaming networks, and with all four of us looking for ways to make the game more interesting, this is one of the more chaotic – and beautiful – radio shows we’ve produced. The music mixes work really well, the Monkey Mutation Mash-Ups are brilliantly executed, and the whole six hours flew by faster than I would have liked. Combining our shows is not only a good idea, but led to getting “Radio TroUBle” on Sheena’s Jungle Room, too, and was a good decision, all around.

I look forward to more collaborations, like the one’s I get to do with Radio TroUBle!

Dimestore Radio Theater: Big City Orchestra Takes Over!

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

In a turn of events that everyone expected, Dimestore Radio Theater has their first-ever guests, as the members of Big City Orchestra take over the show, pick their favorite Sci-Fi broadcasts, and prepare themselves for a live script reading, at the end of the program! While an eye appointment kept Michael from participating, Andy filled in nicely for his roles in the show, and we present to you a very live broadcast, full of chills, thrills, and spills… in every sense of all three of those words!

Before the big performance, we offer an episode of Vanishing Point, where they dramatize the baffling J. G. Ballard story, entitled, “News From The Sun.” We follow that up with an excellent episode of Mindwebs, with their rendition of, “The Pain God.” Lastly, we offer a slice of vintage 50’s radio, with an episode of 2000 Plus, and their ridiculous story, “When The Machines Went Mad.”

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL!

We close the show with a dramatic, comedic, and downright chaotic reading of a Firesign Theater script, Side B of “Everything You Know Is Wrong,” performed by univac, pxe, Andy, das and Austin, with live music cues, SFX. and dialog performed together, in the room! We react to each other! We slightly flub our lines! We have a great time, and get to do something that everyone used to have to do, all the time, because that’s just how radio was done…

In Conversation (Willamette River Basin Tour w/ Scot Jenerik, Don Haugen, Aurora Josephson & Free Static)

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat

A broadcast that went well beyond expectations, and intentions, as it quickly evolved into something more than we had planned. In hour one, we offer a wide range of music from artists that will be performing in the “Willamette River Basin” tour, a mini-tour that myself, Scot and Don are going on, to show off what we do to various folks in the area. Since I only included material by the other artists, I offered more Mini-Mutations on top of their sounds, continuing our dive into, “The Future of When,” a subject that I’ll be exploring in my sets on this tour.

Then, stick around for hours two and three, where we get into conversations with Aurora Josephson, Courtney from Free Static, Scot Jenerik, and Don Haugen, where we all get into the creative process, what we’ll be bringing to these shows, and in a rare bit of turnaround, Scot grills me about radio, and why I keep coming back to it week after week. While there’s no reason to be bashful regarding the work we actually do, I think this particular conversation offers insight into our particular corners of the world of experimental music, and gives you a taste of what each of us is going for, what turns us on, what keeps up interested, and working year after year.

And there’s also music throughout? Not a bad block of radio, methinks.

Dimestore Radio Theater #160

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

The jailbreak and subsequent return of a criminal named Ralph Baxter – who Richard Diamond sent to prison when he was an officer – caused the police force to recruit Diamond to help them put Ralph back behind bars. Meanwhile, Rocky Jordan has been dreaming of a Holiday, until he gets drawn into a bizarre circumstance, where he comes between a husband and wife, right and wrong, and must make some decisions that end up mirroring Casablanca in interesting ways. We wrap up our Vaudeville documentary, and Blackstone himself uses temperature to help foil an attempted robbery of a priceless artifact. In our final story from X-Minus One, a group of explorers wind up on a planet with a very interesting local wildlife, and soon need to make a decision about what do do with it, when their food stores are suddenly gone.

The Future of When. Lived In.

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat

The most interesting thing about The Future of When is that everyone has a prognostication that never really reflects what will happen, but feels like it should. In many ways, The Future of When is about possibilities from another universe, another timeline, another reality than ever fully manifested. Through long digressions regarding the Unisphere and advanced telephony of the mid-century, we discuss the future of space travel with Bandit, Listener Robert calls in of a story of what he though the future of soap was, and will be, and Aaron in Minneapolis returns with a sequel to his previous Mid-Valley ghost story!

The mix gets nice and thick when we get to it, and I even pull out my bass for a couple improvised jams that felt right in the moment. It’s certainly a nice glimpse into once kind of future, that exists on this radio program, every week.

Dimestore Radio Theater #159s

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

An interrupted shower causes Richard Diamond to just miss a pair on the run in the wake of a dead messenger on his doorstep. Richard will have to get dressed and get sharp if he wants to navigate his way through a counterfeiting operation. Meanwhile, Rocky Jordan seems to have fallen out of favor with and old friend, who then turns up dead, and embroiled in a case that involves the police, some missing documents, experimental jet fuel, and more! Plus: it doesn’t take long for Blackstone to help deduce that a ghost and a grandfather clock that doesn’t keep good time have much more in common than initially thought. And lastly, in a re-run of, “At The Post,” we find another intersection of Sci-Fi and the characters of the street, as a horse-racing expert cracks open a circumstance where aliens are responsible for some pretty terrible things… all in the same of recording our culture, for the future.

The Future of When. Marathonin’. (Week 2)

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat

It always seems like a bit of a whirlwind to me each time, but yet again, our Marathon has come, and with it, another chance to show listeners what we do, how we do it, and give you a chance to get a little something out of the deal, too. This year was no exception, of course, and we made it a point to try and get all vinyl records as Prizes this year, and the fact that Sun Ra Boxed set didn’t last long is a sign I’m doing something right.

We continue to work our way through The Future of The Past, with more inclusions from records that were given away to donating listeners. A few folks mentioned in the Digital Salon that they even got the Sheena’s keychain, and for that we are grateful, as it is very fetching, and will look good any way you use it.

This mix gets nice and thick, and aside from a couple of tech issues involving a Velvet Underground CD and whatnot, we get really into Nuclear Power, Sinclair’s Dinoland, and many other aspects of the way the past saw the future. We cap things off with a future-forward past performance from the beginning of March, where Mini-Mutations tackled some of these same themes… in front of an audience.

We manage to raise a fair amount of money, and we gave away almost everything. That’s not a bad way to cap off a Marathon.

Dimestore Radio Theater #158 – (WFMU Marathon Week 2!)

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

It’s our second Marathon show of the season, and we pull out all the stops, giving away vinyl records and listening to some incredible Mid-Century broadcasts, to help raise a little coin for WFMU and Sheena’s Jungle Room.

In one of the more gruesome installments of Richard Diamond, “The Man Who Hated Women,” puts the police and Diamond on the hunt for a brutal murderer who has a particular grudge against women. Then, we check in with Rocky Jordan, who has to kick out of his bar a man with a gun, only to find that a young couple is looking for this person, and moreover, the man with a gun seems to have left behind a valuable diamond. We close this week with a story from X-Minus One, “The Scapegoat,” where we find out how far a journalist will go to get an incredible story, and how it is easy to judge a circumstance from the outside.

Over the last two weeks we raised a good chunk of change for WFMU and Sheena’s, and we even gave away all of our prizes last night. But I you are still looking to donate, then you might want to get the Sheena’s Jungle Room Keychain Premium! This fetching Keychain that will look good no matter how you use it.

And next week we return to our regular scheduled programs. See you in the Digital Salon!

The Future of When. Marathonin’. (Week 1)

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the time of year when our radio station kicks into “fundraising” mode seems to come sooner and sooner every year, and already, it is Week 1 of our Marathon! We hope that you consider donating to our humble cause, and in exchange, I have LPs that I will mail to you, for your donation.

But that’s not all! Bandit calls in to offer their take on why radio and community is important. Aaron In Minneapolis – with the help of some modern software – calls in with a Mid-Valley ghost story, relating to the future, and to the people and places that make the Mid-Valley so special. And: I continue to cut and paste with samples and music regarding the Future of When.

Stay tuned, as we will have more LPs to give away next week, more Marathon Fun happening at WFMU, and more chances to help keep something fun and uplifting running smoothly in your community.

Dimestore Radio Theater #157 – (WFMU Marathon Week 1!)

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

The Marathon is here again, and WFMU is hard at work, trying to raise the money they need to keep things going. We always appreciate the chance to help, and I always feel grateful that WFMU and Sheena’s Jungle Room make me feel so welcome. This week, I open up the show more, to talk about the Marathon, and give listeners a chance to win some excellent prizes, for their donations.

We open the show with an installment of Richard Diamond, who finds himself in a case very similar to The Maltese Falcon, but with an Ivory Statue of Kali at the heart of the matter. But it’s much more complicated for Rocky Jordan this week, as an unusual incident at The Cafe Tamborine leads to Sam asking Rocky to get involved with a woman, in an effort to find out who is the Perfect Witness. Finally, we present another installment of X-Minus One, where we get a young person’s perspective on a historic moment in history, as everyone around him tries to come to terms with how we will, “End As A World.”

We raised a fair amount of money during the show, a few people even opted to get the Sheena’s Jungle Room Keychain Premium, this fetching Keychain that will look good no matter how you use it. And tune in next week, when I’ll have more LPs to give away, for those who donate in the name of Dimestore Radio Theater!

And, of course, we’ll have more from your favorite Mid-Century Media Outlet, Dimestore Radio Theater!

The Future of When. Again.

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat

As we continue my journey through the Sleepcore on the picsandportraits YouTube Channel, we – Again – journey through the future of the past, and try to find the various ways that I can jam along with the flotsam and jetsam of 20th Century AV. It was such a difficult and wide-ranging journey that I even had to pull my bass out, to make up for other equipment failures that I’ve been struggling with here in the Lava Lamp Lounge. Still, we managed to bring you three hours of retro-futurism, in an effort to consider the sort of timeline of which we seem to have been robbed.

The lines were open, but silent, and not everything was rainbows and lollipops, but we did manage to stick the landing, and have settled into a routine and a format that could be sustainable, baring any particularly unforeseen mishaps. We close going places this show had NEVER gone before – with the work of ABC, no less – and along the way manage to connect the dots back through the Circle Jerks, The Flaming Lips, old-school ska, the 39′ World’s Fair, Camper Van Beethoven, and so much more.

Dimestore Radio Theater #156

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

In our first hour, we have an encounter with a street photographer – who hands Richard Diamond to get wrapped up in a case involving “The Photographer’s Card,” – is enough to get his working with his old unit on the police force again. Meanwhile, it’s a Cairo version of The Maltese Falcon, as Rocky Jordan manages to get involved in a hunt for “The White Beetle,” a case that puts both him and Sam in danger!

After a short diversion to discuss some Dimestore Revelations!, we offer another installment of ourVaudeville documentary. Blackstone The Magic Detective discusses how he once found himself solving a case where an Organ was ultimately the killer, and in our finally story on X-Minus One, we find a case of government interference, as an inventor wants to be able to test in possibly-dangerous creation out on human test subjects, something that couldn’t possibly go wrong, could it?

The Future of When

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat

Inspired recently by watching the time-bending story in the early 90’s film, Orlando, I began thinking about the way the future was seen from the past. This led me to thinking about the work that the picsandportraits channel on YouTube has been doing, raiding archive.org for the ephemera of the past that reflected on the future in interesting ways.

Jettisoning the plans I had for this week, I hastily assembled a variety of sources, with the idea that I would instead explore The Future of When, a place where the past, present, and future all exist on the same wavelength for nearly three hours. Songs, samples, live Mini-Mutations and the like all combine to create a kaleidoscopic perspective from this curious point in mid-life.

Dimestore Radio Theater: Our President’s Day Special!

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

Another holiday means another round of episodes from the Lux Radio Theater and The CBS Radio Mastery Theater, to offer you two different ways to spend the day.

First, we hear a version of, Blossoms in the Dust, the “true” story of a Edna Gladney, who found homes for orphaned children, and campaigned to change Texas law to make life easier for children without legitimate parents. The veracity of the details of the story are certainly in question, but Edna’s dedication to the cause is the true element this story is based on.

After the ups and downs of that tale, we return to the CBS Radio Mystery Theater, with a story called A Lady Never Loses Her Head. A combination of gaslighting and re-enactment efforts work to cause an American woman recently married to a well-to-do British man to consider that she might be haunted by headless ghosts from the past. But not even the truly creepy behavior of her husband seems to tip her off… at first…

Time marches on, and the case files regarding Extra Terrestrial activity only get larger and more complicated. This time we try to get to a few different perspectives, all of which draw no conclusions that are any different than the ones you knew about before. Mr. X himself, Xeres of Xeron calls in, so we can both discuss our thoughts about what might be happening with regards to abductions, and later, das from Big City Orchestra calls in too, tossing his own brand of nonsense into the mix. We close up shop a little early, only to get to an afterparty. This time we offer a live performance from 9 years ago on this very day, when Derek M. Johnson came down to the show, and sat in for both a solo and a collaborative set with. It is odd to think that this individual show has almost a decade of history to it now. .

Meanwhile, we spend a fair amount of time in Cairo’s Chinatown, where Rocky Jordan meets up with an old friend – Wong Lee – and accidentally becomes a part of a complicated (and confusing) muder, involving his friend, and much of Chinatown.

We continue our run on the Vaudville documentary during “Dimestore Revelations,” while Blackstone The Magic Detective finds himself and his trusty assistant, kidnapped, as part of a plot to sell stolen gasoline. Will they escape, unharmed? And in our final story this week, we listen to a group of con artist businessmen trick earthlings into volunteering for a repopulation mission, just as they own planet struggles with overpopulation. Dimestore Radio Theater: Our Groundhog Day Special!

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

Another holiday means another round of episodes from the Lux Radio Theater and The CBS Radio Mastery Theater, to offer you two different ways to spend the day.

First, we hear a version of, Mother Wore Tights, a romance set against the world of vaudeville performers. Betty Grable & Dan Dailey recreate their on-screen roles, in this radio romance told in flashbacks to a time when two-a-day performers were on the move, looking for work… and possibly more. .

Next, we dive back into the CBS Radio Mystery Theater, with a story called A Ghostly Game of Death. A particularly haunted house – with an adulterous and murderous past – can’t be demolished to make way for something safer, until the ghosts have been exorcised. Two paranormal investigators decide to spend the night in the house… to find they may have signed up for more than they bargained for.

In spite of my best laid plans to bring you more stories of UFOs, we take this detour through the archives, to offer, “One For The Cats,” mixing poetry and literature with music, to offer two hours of feline fancy, for the cat and or cat-lover in your life. We cap things off with a broadcast from 10 years ago to the day, where I edited together some clips of Chickenman with songs on a similar audio wavelength. Between all the cats and chickens in your life, hopefully this will offer you an outlet where all you have to do is listen, and dance.

Dimestore Radio Theater: Our MLK Day Special!

First, we hear a version of, The Devil and Miss Jones, a movie about employee / management rights couched in a Henry V sort of presentation.

Next, we hear a fully restored version of The Girl Who Found Things, staring Normal Rose in the lead. In this story of murder and the supernatural, a simple murder is easily foiled, when a 16 year old clairvoyant is brought in to help solve the case. Suddenly, more than just murder is a part of the story.

Cecyl Ruehlen & Thomas Dimuzio: Live Interviews!

We have another “two-sided” episode this week, as we offer two different kinds of interviews, with two different kinds of artists.

In the first leg of their West Coast Tour, Cecyl Ruehlen calls in to talk about their practice as an artist, playing shows in DIY or temporary spaces, their path as an artist, and then offers a sneak preview of their new album, which is not yet out yet, but is coming soon.

Then, Thomas Dimuzio calls into the show, to talk about how they got into music, the search for the right balance of listening, gear and improvisation, and even offers a little insight into their approach to long-form pieces, and mastering final recordings. Thomas’ approach to sound itself, and how to present it, is something I’ve appreciated for a while, and it was delightful to talk to him about his work.

Our show includes several thick collage mixes, a call from our alien friend from Zornac, Bandit checks in with some casual call updates at the end of the show, and we keep scanning the skies – and our radio dials – for UFO activity. There’s really nothing better that early 70’s UFO documentaries, and there’s more to come, next week!

Dimestore Radio Theater #152

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

After a long holiday break, we return to our regularly scheduled programs. It is nice to get back to the stories of Richard Diamond, Rocky Jordan, and Blackstone The Magic Detective, as well as see what is happening in our Vaudeville Documentary, as well as on, X-Minus One.

Richard Tracks a cop-killer with some of his old friends on the force, while Rocky Jordan gets involved in a story that involved Madame Dulac, her daughter, and a gambling crime setup that leads Rocky to being considering the suspect! Blackstone offers more coin tricks and mysteries from his career, while X-Minus One explores the world of automation, AI taking over, and how the only way to make it in this horrible future is to become a dishonest tech bro. (In a story from 1957.)

It’s two hours of mid-century radio wonder, and it’s all for you, today!

In Search of The Christmas Ghosts of The Mid-Valley! (Ghosts III)

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat

We complete our trilogy – started in October with In Search of The Ghost Hunters of The Mid-Valley, continued last week with In Search of The Christmas Ghosts of The Mid-Valley, and completed here, now, with two more hours – and a full holiday ghosts tale – mixed in for your enjoyment. Since the dates lined up, I present a 45 Minute edit of a radio show I mixed live nine years ago, on the same date, distilling the show down to its raw essence. Since I got my timing off, I close with a live MicroGranny jam, that brings us to the end of the year, and beyond.

Holi-Day & Date New Year’s Fun! (Week 5)

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

We forego our regular shows this time of year, and for this program, offer you a variety of holiday tidbits, all originally aired on this same date, but many decades before.

First, we offer you the comedic stylings of Duffy’s Tavern, as the cast try and work out what they should do about some missing Christmas cards. (Dorothy Shaye guest stars to sing a song and flirt with the lead.) They we’re off to Hawaii for an episode of Hawaii Calls, as the perform traditional Hawaiian songs, and a few New Year’s tunes as well. Bill Stern gives up a New Year’s Sports roundup, with Jack Benny along for the ride. and finally we hear a New Year’s centric episode of Quiet, Please, to properly horrify you before bed.

In Search of The Christmas Ghosts of The Mid-Valley! (Ghosts II)

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat

It’s another journey deep into the lore and experiences of those who have seen or are haunted by apparitions, this time with a slight holiday component to the show. After debuting two new tracks by The Giant Worm – which were recorded days ago, and submitted to this show by the band – we pick up where we left off back in October, where we were In Search of The Ghost Hunters of The Mid-Valley. Now, we add a BBC broadcast of holiday ghost stories into the mix, along with music, a call from WebHamster Henry himself, and, plenty of Mini-Mutations. It’s a cut-up take on the Christmas Ghost Story, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat (The Digital Salon)

We forego our regular shows during the holidays, and for this program, we offer you a variety of holiday fare, all originally aired on this same date, but many decades before. This week our theme is: Jack Benny?

First, it’s an episode of CBS Town Hall Tonight, a variety show with music and comedy, hosted by Fred Allen, and featuring Jack Benny. After some brief Revelations, we offer a Christmas 1946 transcription disc from the Grandpas’s iPod blog (essentially a 1946 “Christmas mix tape”). We close the show with an installment of Jack Benny’s program, The Jell-O Show, where they get into their usual holiday shenanigans.

It’s Alive w/ Ghosts of Ghosts & Scot Jenerik!

WFMU Playlist & Interactive Live Chat

We’ve got a live split LP of a show for you this week, as we bring you post punk and experimental music – and interviews – with artists here in the Mid-Valley, that I think you are going to love.

We start off with a live performance and interview with Ghosts of Ghosts, a trio who bring you instrumental tunes that are as danceable as they are otherworldly. After a brief intermission in hour two, flip the show over, and go on an otherworldly journey, with a live set by Scot Jenerik, who returns to the show to talk about his new live boxed set, Street of Crocodiles, and also gets into a lot of the process and motivation behind creating new work.

It’s a live double-header and you don’t want to miss it!

20 Minutes Into The Future 2024 Halloween Special! (A Big Time Television Celebration)
(recorded 24 May 2024)

It’s that time of year, when our thoughts turn to those of Halloween!

Heather would have picked something local.

Austin is stuck in the 80’s, at Halloween.

https://ia903409.us.archive.org/6/items/20-minutes-2024-halloween-special/20Minutes2024HalloweenSpecial.mp3Our Setlist:
Vic Crume * The Haunted House
Tim Curry * The Halloween Song
Oingo Boingo * Dead Man’s Party
Ramones * Pet Sematary
The Dickies * Killer Clowns From Outer Space
Men At Work * Dr. Heckyll & Mr. Jive
The Fall * There’s A Ghost In My House
Toto Coelo * Dracula’s Tango

We encourage you to help with our Patreon Fundraiser, where we are working with Michael Cassutt to create an audio-drama version of his lost vintage Max Headroom script, “Families.” So if you help support Austin Rich so he doesn’t have to punch a clock, then we can get more of this kind of material to you, quickly.

The War With The Newts

On the anniversary of Karel Čapek’s birthday, we listen to this 2005 presentation from the BBC, where they dramatize a 90 version of, “The War With The Newts.” This story is fantastic, breaks the fourth wall, has Karel and Olga – real life people – narrate the story from WWII Prague – as they worry about Hitler’s impending invasion, and instead, discuss a different world wide calamity that we all brought upon ourselves.

20 Minutes Into The Future: That Dr. Demento Sensibility (“Merry Christmas Santa Claus,” Chrysalis Records, 1986)
(Recorded on 9 November 2023; 1 September 2022.)

Once your star is ascending, it’s only a matter of time before someone realizes that the next logical step is to have your work the holiday angle, with a Special and a Holiday Single that will be on TVs and in stores… just in time for you and your loved ones to spend this special time of year with your new favorite celebrity. And this is how Max Headroom’s 7″ Single — “Merry Christmas Santa Claus” b/w “Gimme Shades” — came to underwhelm all of us in 1986.

Heather is really hung up on the lyrics, and can’t seem to think of anything else.

Austin wants to set the record straight, and thank Blank Johnny in the UK for sending a copy of the single to The Lava Lamp Lounge!

20 Minutes Into The Future: “What Gives Our Lives Meaning?” (Warner Bros., “Blade Runner,” 1982)
(Recorded on 1 September 2022.)

Probably one of the more legendary and divisive opinions on our show: one of us did NOT like Blade Runner, and one of us is rather fond of it for it’s impact and influence on cinema, culture, and specifically, Max Headroom. Wanna hear us get into it, with a tid-bit recorded with Steve Roberts, who offers his thoughts on all of it?

Heather is reminded of the way certain men like to behave.

Austin argues about Class Consciousness. Again.

Sounds From Space: (November In The Stars) Special Apollo 12 Tribute

Between November 14th and November 24th, the Apollo 12 Mission quietly worked in the shadow of the much more exciting, and famous, Apollo 11 Mission from earlier that summer. Since we are continuing our coverage for “Sounds From Space,” this is sort of a sequel to our Apollo 11 Tribute from the summer, as we listen to Apollo 12 tapes this time, and enjoy a long-form Mini-Mutations jam… and while thinking about Sounds From Space.

20 Minutes Into The Future: Our Thanksgiving Special!
(Recorded on 15 November 2023.)

Austin had gone out of his way to make a fantastic dinner for his 20 Minutes Into The Future family. They would like to have nothing to do with it, in any way, shape, or form.

Heather’s Holiday Playlist is, once again, here to help us deal with unwanted family this time of year.

Austin spent too much time on something no one wants to enjoy. Again.

20 Minutes Into The Future: It’s Halloween In The Fringes!
(Recorded on 20 October 2023.)

It looks like Heather and Austin have decided to go… trick or treating in The Fringes!? Oh no! This can only lead to a drunken night at Caligula’s, where Heather has taken over the jukebox. Hopefully the good music will protect us from Bruegel & Mahler.

(The voice of our announcer is none other than Xeres of Xeron himself! The doorman was played by Imaginos.)

Heather’s Holiday Playlist is most definitely below.

Austin can’t even work a fake tiara on Halloween. Sigh.
