Friendships are a challenge, especially when you get older. Most times we expect many things out of friends and sometimes we feel what you give is not reciprocated.
Most times we are trying not to rock the boat in many of the relationships we have, but in reality, we are really acquiescing to things.
"Acquiesce" To assent tacitly; submit or comply silently or without protest; agree; consent:
Setting boundaries is healthy and NOT selfish. Something as simple as saying "No" when someone asks you "Can I ask a question?" and then proceeds to ask it anyway before you answer. Take it literally and say "No" if you don't want to answer the question at the moment. IT IS OKAY! Why are we expected to be at everyone's beck and call even when it comes to answering questions?
More times than not, mommas are the disciplinarians and there are some negative emotions that come from being the one who has to be in control of all the No's thus making them look like the "bad guy" the majority of the time.
More times than not, black women are called "Aggressive" when sporting confidence and poise. They are often expected to dim their light and keep their head down. Women in general who are highly educated and then some, get smacked with similar negative labels and expectations.

As complicated as it may seem, your hair is YOUR hair and Black women shouldn't be shamed into accepting their hair as unruly! Black and biracial women with kinky/coily hair were (and still are) tasked with "taming" the way their hair grows. Why is that an expectation? How did that even come about in the first place? Was it because it was considered not manageable or was it because their hair is just simply misunderstood.
Umm...we think not... sometimes we don't want to share and think about others 100% of the time, especially when we want something specific to eat and a break from cooking. So don't expect us to share our stash or the place we go to eat our stash.
Are the expectations of the girlfriends accurate? It's interesting how we set our own expectations and often fail at them because we think those are the expectations our friends set for us.
