Originally from New Zealand, she's an architect (explains the practicality), artist, author and columnist for the Sydney Morning Herald. Liyah Knight is a young muso with wisdom beyond her years.
In 25 short years on the planet, she's already achieved about 3 lives worth of things. Of course, she's a thoughtful singer-songwriter right now, but she's also played college basketball in the US and worked as a producer for Sky News. How's that for variety?!
With all these experiences under her belt, it's clear Liyah has a good head on her shoulders.
So, here she is with some of her best advice for looking after the head on YOUR shoulders.

The wonderful Virginia Gay is back with us once more.
Not only is she returning to the podcast, but she's also returned to Australia after a stint in the US.
It was a big trip for her in more ways than one.
Not only did she have to battle through COVID (quite literally, she actually got it), but her time in the states was the first time Virginia had been truly cut off from all the support systems she'd built up down under.
Suffice to say, adjusting to that reality wasn't easy. In fact, Virginia will be the first to admit that her adjustment period led to her engaging in the art of “floor sobbing” more than once.
But through the trials and tribulations of living alone in America, Virginia's learnt a lot about recognizing her own strengths and the power of being truly vulnerable..

Comedian and multi-skilled creative Ryan Shelton is, obviously, a man of immense and varied talents. Arguably the greatest skill he's developed though, has been his ability to survive over 20 years of being best friends with Hamish Blake.
The two first met in school, quickly bonding over a mutual love of comedy. That passion for laughter would carry through to their uni days, as Ryan and Hamish -alongside Tim Bartley and Andy Lee - created sketch show "Radio Karate" on channel 31.
At the time, Ryan believed the show would be his first and last foray into comedy before pursuing a career in advertising. But Hamish, in tandem with (guess who) Andy Lee, had other ideas.
Of course, Hamish and Andy went on to become the star duo we know them as today, and their wild ride of success has been fun for all involved.
And usually, when your best friend is out there kicking goals – you’re celebrating with them every step of the way. But Ryan struggled to be truly happy for his best mate.
After all, how could he be when Hamish was living out Ryan’s comedy dreams.
For a long time that feeling of envy was hard for Ryan to admit to himself, let alone Hamish.
But eventually, in 2019, during a dinner between himself and Hamish – Ryan finally worked up the courage and found the right moment to tell the truth.
Here’s the story of how it all happened.

Put simply, fashion designer Sai Wai Foo is a delight.
Not only is she immensely talented, but she’s achieved it all with an endearingly sweet personality. A bit like your coolest, kindest, down-to-earth aunt. You know the one.
Despite her personality, though, Sai Wai Foo had to work hard through her childhood to subvert stringent family expectations and mountains of pressure in order to forge her own, more artistic path forward.
This is the story of how she did it.

Film director, actress and all-round goddess Rachel Ward isn’t exactly someone you’d expect to be part of a farming revolution.
But when the Black Summer Bushfires made their way (quite literally) to the doorstep of her family farm, Rachel was faced with the realisation that she could no longer sit idly by in the face of our climate crisis.
Since then, Rachel has run the family farm utilising regenerative farming practices, a process that pulls carbon from the atmosphere and sequesters it in the ground. Neat!
Here’s how she looks after her farms (both the regenerative and mental ones) and reckons with the challenge of global warming.

As pandemic years go, Virginia Gay has had a few pretty big ones. Most people haven’t been up to much, but Virginia’s version of “the unprecedented time” has seen her write two plays, return to Australia from Los Angeles, move back into (and subsequently out of) her parents house, form a new bond with a furry friend and battle through a bout of COVID-19.

Dr. Katrina Warren is a shining example of how you can always put others first and still find personal success.
Across 7 seasons of Harry Practice, she did exactly that – providing help and support to pets and pet owners in need.
By her side throughout it all was Toby the Wonderdog, who Katrina describes as her “heart dog”.
Katrina is so notoriously upbeat that it’s hard to imagine her having a tough time. But when the end of Harry’s practice coincided with the passing of Toby – it shook Katrina in a way she hadn’t experienced before.

Christian O’Connell is braver than your average radio presenter. Most British DJs would’ve baulked at the idea of travelling across the world to Australia, a market where no one knows them, and starting from scratch. But not Christian.
Given the roaring success that is The Christian O’Connell Show, it’s safe to say the gamble paid off. But the sailing hasn’t been so smooth down under. It wasn’t all that long ago that a freshly migrated Christian faced resistance from some Aussie listeners who felt his voice had been “forced” upon them.
So, how did Christian O’Connell rise to the challenge and win over the Australian public?

As an artist, Montaigne has struck the perfect balance. She’s managed to hit the heights of Aussie Pop success without losing her joyous, down to earth personality.
Trust me, it makes her such a treat to talk to.
Even in the present day, where “the unprecedented” puts a cap on people’s achievements, Montaigne has still managed to kick some serious goals, not least representing Australia at this year’s Eurovision!

Since arriving to Australia from Gambia in 2001, Khadija has been using her experience and eloquence to speak up as a human rights activist on issues like racial inequality, gender discrimination and Female Genital Mutilation.
Khadija’s actions empower and uplift others to recognise the inner power they possess to create change.

There's only one type of girl you can be in Australian swimming, and that's golden. Libby Lenton was as golden as they get. Golden hair, golden skin, golden smile...and lots of golden medals! She won gold in the 2004 Athens Olympics, 2008 Beijing Olympics and again at the 2012 London Olympics. On the way Libby got married and became Libby Trickett. She retired, then made a comeback and set an Olympic record.
When she finally retired for good, in 2013, Libby found a very large Olympic pool shaped hole in her life, and filling it has taken more out of her than she could've ever imagined.

Rhys Nicholson is a beautiful comedian in every sense of the word. His zig-zagging brand of fast-paced comedy will not only leave you breathless (believe me, in a good way), but it’s opened the door to exciting new opportunities for Rhys, not least a judging role on RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under.
His comedy provides a laugh-a-minute escape to many, but what does Rhys do when he’s the one in need of some mental escapism?

Dion Factor gets a huge kick out of connecting with people. Nowhere is this more apparent than his podcast, Welcome To Patchwork, where he and his close mates Christian & Josh find unbridled joy in overanalysing the minutiae of life.
Politics don’t interest the Patchwork trio, they prefer instead to ask life’s really big questions, like:
How long should you keep a birthday card for?
or
What’s a reasonable reaction to seeing a mouse?
Trust me, the answers are more than worth tuning in for.
But when seismic global events take those personal connections away, how does Dion cope?

Sam Mac is professionally delightful. A weatherman on Channel 7's Sunrise, it's his job to be the happy, smiling, wholesome Sam we know and love every, single, morning.
Early risers, hey?
But being that positive isn't always how you'd want to be, it's tiring, and let's be honest, sometimes you've just got other sh*t going on in your head. For Sam though, it's not really an option to not be positive...so how does he cope with that?

At her core, Rachel Ward is an empathetic person. In fact, her ability to recognise and respond to the emotional states of those around her is probably a big part of how she became the captivating actress and director she is today.
Despite this, Rachel’s “hyper sensitivity” – as she likes to call it – isn’t without drawback. Sometimes, it can lead to her taking on more of other people’s emotions than her own mental state can carry, so much so that it prompted an epiphany that forced Rachel to re-evaluate her emotional life. This is how she did it.
Rachel's passion these days is regenerative farming. You can keep up with her work on instagram and even shop!

Scott Ryan’s story is one of patience and persistence. After creating his now famous hitman character Ray Shoesmith at university, Scott spent almost 20 years refusing to give up on the idea, never acquiescing to offers that would’ve seen more established actors assume the role.
Scott resilience finally paid off in 2018, when Fox greenlit a one season run of Mr. Inbetween: a black comedy centred around the life of (you guessed it) hitman Ray Shoesmith. Three years and two seasons later, the show is a qualified success. Crucially, though, Scott Ryan has written and starred in every single episode.
Although it’s ended happily, Scott’s path of delayed artistic gratification hasn’t been without some bleak moments. Here’s how he navigated them.

When Louise Sauvage called time on a Paralympic career spanning four games and nine gold medals, she could’ve been forgiven for drifting off into quiet retirement. But for someone who had made their name in wheelchair racing, slowing down was never really an option.
Less than a year after retirement, Louise found herself back in the wheelchair racing circuit. This time around, however, it was as a coach. Having worked with the likes of Angie Ballard and Tokyo gold medallist Madison de Rosario, Louise has become an expert at teaching others how to tame the mental beast within.

Claire Bowditch is versatile. For most, motherhood and a touring music career would be two separate lifetimes, but Claire decided to tackle them both at the same time.
When health concerns forced her tour life to slow down, Claire decided she could fill the void by expanding her creative endeavours: presenting radio shows, appearing on TV and writing a book.
The problem with spinning so many plates, however, is that sometimes one can fall off and hit you on the head. So when plates do drop, and tough times occur, what does Claire do to keep it together?

It all started as a way to relieve stress, and it did. Phil was able to get a handle on his anxiety as a result of his crochet excellence.

Simon Dunn is a sporting venn diagram. Growing up in Wollongong, he played rugby union for his entire life; before one day, whilst on trials in Canada, he was recruited for the Australian bobsled team
Simon went from charging into people and trying to hurt others, to slugging a sled, and trying his best not to get hurt.
He's also the first openly gay man to represent his country in bobsled, and coming from a sport like Rugby, where hypermasculinity is rife, Simon overcame a lot to get where he is, find his champions and now, be a champion for others.

Sandra Pankhurst was a spectacular person.
A transgender woman, Sandra lived many lives - child abuse survivor, drag queen, sex worker, funeral director, trophy wife, government candidate, and CEO of the life changing business, Trauma Cleaning Services.
Her and her team would enter the most harrowing of circumstances; crime scenes, the homes of hoarders, bio-hazards, and act without judgement or prejudice. The TCS' focus is compassion, and kindness.
Earlier this weekend, Sandra Pankhurst passed away. She suffered from a serious pulmonary condition, and was believed to be in her late 60s. She was surrounded by her family, and her beautiful dog Moet.

It’s punchy, informative, and the opposite of a time waster. In other words, The Daily Aus is news...but on Instagram.
One of its founders, Sam Koslowki, seems to be just as pragmatic and practical.
The success people find, especially when it happens so quickly often dredges up old complications. For Sam, he’s got the structure in place to deal with them; four housemates, a loving partner and a rescue dog - but what if those structures fall away, what if old mental health habits really do die hard.

Now working at the ABC, Josh Szeps is a media personality that's seemingly had eggs in every Australian entertainment basket over the last 20 years.
He has a podcast called Uncomfortable Conversations, which he describes as "an opportunity to get out, talk and step on some Zeitgeist landmines".
Josh's wit, humour and ocassionally brutal string of conversation has always been a part of who he is - but now, as a husband, a father of twins and with a new government gig - what's got Josh Szeps' Farm so Calm?

Damien Leith, the Irish sweetheart of Australian Idol back in 2006. He's still living in Australia, and has just moved down to the Gong to work as a radio announcer - he's certainly got the voice for it.
When we asked Damien about his mental health journey, he didn't hesitate - OCD. His struggles with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder extend back to his childhood, where he developed what he describes as "proper OCD."

Jamie Timony is someone who spends a lot of time at centre stage.
He's an actor, lead singer of punk band These New South Whales, solo artist under the name Mossy and host of the podcast, What A Great Punk.
Jamie's the type of person you'd want in your corner...and he's been through enough to understand the often unique challenges of working in the arts.
After 8 years of sobriety, and a welcome break during Melbourne's lockdown, his understanding of life echos sentiments of routine, balance and calm...

Dr Kristopher Rallah-Baker, a Yuggera/Biri-Gubba-Juru man, is Australia's first indigenous Opthamologist and a trailblazer in Australian medicine.
According to the National Eye Health Survey, 90% of vision loss in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander is preventable - but with limited resources, these cases aren't always tended to.
During COVID, Kris was President of the Australian Indigenous Doctors Association, a MASSIVE responsibility in regular circumstances...but as 2020 seems to do, his life and responsibilities were amplified. There were fears the pandemic would have serious ramifications and generational effects on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Sam Mac is professionally delightful. A weatherman on Channel 7's Sunrise, it's his job to be the happy, smiling, wholesome Sam we know and love every, single, morning.
Early risers, hey?
But being that positive isn't always how you'd want to be, it's tiring, and let's be honest, sometimes you've just got other sht going on in your head. For Sam though, it's not really an option to not* be positive...so how does he cope with that?

SAS veteran Mark Wales completed 4 tours of Afghanistan. He’s now calling for a full enquiry into Australia’s war in Afghanistan, which he calls a military defeat and disgrace. Wales has been a mental health advocate for many years now, having dealt with PTSD after his first tour of Afghanistan, but he’s been called upon to comment on the issue again recently in view of the allegations of war crimes made against some highly decorated members of the SAS who also served in Afghanistan.
The findings of the Brereton report into war crimes committed by Australian forces in Afghanistan were released in November 2020. The report exposed disturbing cultural elements in some sectors of the Australian Defence Force, most notably the SAS, but also noted that PTSD related to over-deployment of the SAS was a likely factor in decreased empathy in some combatants.
Mark Wales has just released a book called Survivor: Life in the SAS.
