Matt and Maria tune into strange frequencies with AvonRose, Green Lung, Nine Inch Noize, Gaupa, Mr Bungle, Yuuge, Mastodon, and Kyuss’ mighty Spaceship Landing as the long song. Expect black magick, blind sides, burning asses and snakes for dinner.
Matt and Maria charge through Muse, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, a double hit of Propagandhi, Amyl and the Sniffers, Puscifer live, ELO, and Metallica’s mighty Master of Puppets as the long song. Expect heresy, hot rods, security issues, philosophical meat, and the Robot Overlord being quietly happy with Maria's attendance.
Maria was a little under the weather, so Matt and the Evil Robot Overlord held the fort with Sleep Token, Faith No More, System of a Down, Primus, Megadeth, Pull Down the Sun, Puscifer, A Perfect Circle, PJ Harvey, and Joe Walsh’s Life’s Been Good as the long song. We hit Friday with Warlock, Accept, Helloween, Killing Joke, Van Halen, Claemus, Ozzy Osbourne, Clutch, and George Thorogood’s One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer as the long song. Expect warnings, eruptions, asteroids, outlaws, and Maria to wander in at some point!
Matt steers a suitably odd Friday ride through Mr Bungle, The Mothers of Invention, Metallica, Megadeth, Queens of the Stone Age, David Lee Roth, and Traffic’s sprawling The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys as the long song. Expect sorrow, sanity fraying, world-burning guitars, and Matt doing as instructed by the Lovely Robot Overlord.
After a storm felled a tree and cut power to Maria and Matt’s place, the show naturally answered with The Doors, Truckfighters, The Kinks, Baroness, AC/DC, King Buffalo, Alien Weaponry, and A Perfect Circle. Expect storms, momentum, TNT, suspicious robot weather control, and absolutely no guarantee the lights stay on.

Maria takes the controls while Matt remains only partially present, which may or may not be an improvement. Matt and Maria go full Aotearoa noise machine with Push Push, The D4, Deja Voodoo, Beastwars, Stardrunk, The Hasselhoff Experiment, and Pull Down The Sun’s mighty Inoi as the long song. Expect beers, riffs, brown paper bags, and the Evil Robot Overlord quietly approving from the control room.
This week, Matt and Maria take a strange and splendid Friday detour through Patti Smith, Judas Priest, Propagandhi, Twisted Sister, Frank Zappa, Yes, David Bowie remixed by Nine Inch Nails, and Aotearoa’s own Head Like a Hole.There’s punk bite, metal swagger, prog grandeur with Yes’ “Roundabout” as the long song, and a firm reminder from Zappa to avoid suspicious snow. The Evil Robot Overlord approves.
Matt and Maria were joined this week by special guest Geoff, formerly of Fresh FM’s The Dave Harris Show, for an excellent Friday evening wander through big riffs, deep cuts, and one properly epic long song. There was music from Cave In, Failure, The Cult, Black Peaks, Blue Cheer, and Oceansize, plus Maria’s pick from the new Nine Inch Noize album, Copy of A. Geoff also brought Blue Cheer’s “Summertime Blues” to the programme, because guest privileges should be used responsibly.
Maria was away, so Matt flew solo from the lounge studio and things got slightly out of hand. Expect Corrosion of Conformity, Nirvana, Claemus, and a few selections Maria may have objected to, including Electric Boys, AC/DC, Sleep Token, and Polyphia.
Matt and Maria head into the sonic dust storm with a playlist featuring Kyuss, Sleep, Quiet Riot, a live cut from Queensrÿche, the beautiful weirdness of Mr Bungle, and Pearl Jam bringing it home. It’s a Friday at 5 blend of heavy grooves, classic firepower, and just enough unpredictability to keep the Evil Robot Overlord fully amused and only mildly concerned.
Spoon to the steel edge of Judas Priest, the strange swagger of Barbarians of California, the curveball charm of Dr Hook, a live hit of Puscifer, and a fresh blast from Muse, this episode moves between styles without losing its grip. Big riffs, left turns, atmosphere, and attitude — the kind of Friday soundtrack that starts in one place and ends somewhere louder.
