Pastor Matt Ruckel finishes our series in Nehemiah by looking at Nehemiah chapter 13. After the wall was finished and the people of Israel had devoted themselves to the Lord, twelve years pass and we see the Israelites had turned their hearts away from God. There are various heart conditions that Nehemiah addresses in the people of God, which we can use to search our own hearts and see if there are areas where we have turned our hearts away from the Father. Guest Speaker Pastor Steve Morgan continued our sermon series, Nehemiah: A Dwelling for Your Name. Looking at Nehemiah 5–6, he highlighted the dangers of neglecting healthy relationships while building God's house and the importance of staying focused amid distraction and opposition. He reminded us that how we treat one another while we build is just as important as the building itself.

Pastor Matt Ruckel continues the story of Nehemiah by looking through chapters 3 and 4. Nehemiah has assigned families in Jerusalem portions of the wall to rebuild while their enemies jeer and pester them with threats of harm. Each family had a responsibility to protect with a sword in one hand and build with a trowel in the other, even though they had no experience as warriors or builders. In this season of spiritual warfare we are in as a congregation, it is also important for us to come together to build and fight for each other. May your hearts be encouraged to link arms with your neighbor as we engage in prayer with the Lord.

Pastor Matt kicks off the summer in a new series, diving into the story of Nehemiah. Nehemiah's heart was never really about a wall or a building. When he prayed, he reminded God of His own promise, the word He had given through Moses. If My people return to Me, I will gather them and bring them to the place I have chosen to make My name dwell there. Nehemiah was asking God to do the very thing God had already said He longed to do - to dwell with His people. This desire runs like a thread through the whole Bible, and it's the heart cry of Big House Church. God, come and dwell in us and with us!

Pastor Ian Thornton finishes the series on praise by teaching on revelatory praise. Diving into Luke 7, we see two different heart postures towards Jesus - Simon the Pharisee and the woman who pours her alabaster jar of perfume onto Jesus' feet. The woman was responding to Jesus out of a revelation she had received from him, and Simon was judging her expression of praise. This Mother's Day, as we celebrate the wonderful mothers of our house, we wanted to acknowledge and bless all the different types of mothers with a special prayer from those in our community. Motherhood is so beautiful yet can be challenging, and though many may not see all the hard work you put into your kids and household, the Lord sees every little thing that you do. Sunday, May 3rd we spent our services mourning the loss of a dear Big House family member, Jessi Kinstler who suddenly went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, April 30, 2026. Her life is a testimony to the beauty and holiness of Jesus and she has marked us all. After hearing an original song that Jessi wrote just a few months ago, Pastor Matt offers a simple and honest framework for mourning when it's time to mourn, and to be with one another in the moment, while still holding onto the hope that we will see Jessi again one day. Our prayer is that Jessi's life and love for Jesus continue to permeate in our community, region, and the nations for the glory of God.

Pastor Matt Ruckel brings us into the "practicals" of what it looks like to be a priest of God in our everyday lives. It's important to build a life around God and not the other way around. Pastor Matt takes us through the steps of creating a priestly PLACE, a priestly PACE, and developing a priestly PICTURE with Holy Spirit, so that our lives look more like a living sacrifice and temple of the Lord rather than any human with good intentions. This Sunday was a pivot moment for our community. Our Prayer Room Coordinator Hope Wright received a powerful prophetic word from the Lord..." Super Bloom" which is a natural phenomenon where desert mountainous fields will have dormant wildflower seeds underground for years, and after an unusually rainy season, the flowers bloom all at once creating a wondrous landscape that can even sometimes be seen from space.
Pastor Matt shared this word on Sunday as an affirmation and hope we can hold onto as we pray and cry out for the rain of God's love to pour out on our church family that has been in a dry season of suffering and waiting for very long. We are hopeful for the super bloom to come soon, and we will praise Him even in the waiting.

On Sunday, September 17 we took time to grieve, remember, and honor a father in the house, Papa Jerry Cates who passed away from cancer on Thursday, September 14. This Sunday was a very tender and special one as we activated the legacy of Papa Jerry by creating a blessing tunnel for the older generation to bless the younger one. Jerry's requested two weeks prior to this Sunday to sing and declare the song "The Blessing" at the start of Rosh Hashanah and a new beginning for our church.
Marion, Adam, and Lindsey Cates share some memories and encouragement after Jerry's passing, and several of our staff also spoke about Jerry's life and legacy.
Although we deeply miss our papa, we have hope for the harvest ahead and pray that each of you remember Jerry's life, laugh, prayers, and prophetic words and allow them to propel you deeper in the kingdom work God has for us on the earth as it is in heaven. God is the Potter and we are the clay. The Potter knows what he is shaping and for what purpose, but the clay must submit itself under the Potter’s hand if it is ever to reach its’ purpose and potential. Simply receiving and feeling God’s love for us is not the end goal; but becoming vessels that are filled and overflow with God’s love and power is what He is shaping us to be.
You are being shaped for a purpose beyond what you can now comprehend!
Sin and shame work tirelessly to convince us that God's thoughts toward us are predominantly negative, disapproving and even angry. So rather than joyfully exploring the heart and mind of God; we often close ourselves off from it.
