The people who populate the pages of Scripture are relatable in their humanness – we encounter them in moments of wisdom and grace, and in the midst of utter meltdown, when everything is falling apart and they are not at their best. In all of it, Scripture shows us a God who meets people in every circumstance; a Savior who reaches out to rescue, heal, and restore in the midst of disaster, disobedience, and despair.

Canyon Springs was planted in 1998 with a simple dream: reach people far from God and create a church where you could invite friends and family. Since then, Canyon Springs has grown to baptize and reach 1000’s of people with one simple message: It’s about the one. We believe that a relationship with Jesus can transform your life. We are a church on a mission to transform San Diego and make an impact domestically and internationally. The vision for this next season of Canyon Springs is rooted in one word: Transformation. The testimonies of transformation in our church are endless. From fostering and adopting kids to students committing their lives to Jesus at our youth Summer Camps and teams traveling to remote places to share the word of Jesus, Canyon Springs has always been a place where love shows its face. Jesus is in the business of complete and total transformation. He does not want just one piece of your heart; he wants it all! There is a plethora of transformations going on right now at Canyon Springs. We are entering a new season with a new pastor. We are finally in our very own building filled with energy and momentum. Lots of transformation is happening. All of this is leading our church to one thing: Make a transforming impact in our community and around the world. We want to reach people far from God in hopes that God transforms their family tree. We want to radically transform San Diego and ensure our community knows we are a church that serves. We want Jesus to transform your life so powerfully that you are never the same. Your kids are not the same. Your spouse is not the same. Your life is entirely different because you made Jesus the center. Are you ready? Join us for this next message series that is centered all around our two year missional campaign "The Transformation Initiative" and join us in the work that God is already doing in San Diego and at our church.

I want to invite you to go for a walk. The Bible is filled with walks. The nation of Israel walked across dry land that, minutes before, was the Red Sea. They also walked around the walls of Jericho before God miraculously knocked them down. But perhaps the most unforgettable walk of all was taken by Peter the day he got out of a boat and walked on the water. Peter’s walk stands as an invitation to everyone who wants to step out in faith, and who wants to experience something more of the power and presence of God. But to walk on water you have to get out of the boat.

Have you ever imagined heaven? Jesus is going to prepare a place for you beyond your wildest imagination. He’s spent the last 2000 years perfecting an endless summer resort for you and me. If this place is so great and wonderful, why do we, as Christians, spend almost no time talking about it? Being a Christian without talking about heaven and keeping eternity in focus is like going to In and Out and getting a soda. It’s missing the point. For the next several weeks, we will imagine heaven and get some perspective on how to live our lives in preparation.

It’s easy to become the people we tell ourselves that we are. Sometimes we tell stories that make us feel strong and powerful. Other times, we tell stories that diminish ourselves and make us feel worthless. Jesus was a master at entering people's stories. In this series, we will look at six different stories in which Jesus entered someone’s story and rewrote their ending.

During Christmas, we are most comfortable with the kinder, gentler side of Jesus. But there is so much more to this man than that. Jesus is beautiful, but He is also dangerous. He was brutally honest to the point of being uncomfortable. There were times when He was brash and outspoken. He was passionate to the point of violence. When Jesus walked this earth He was accused of nearly everything of breaking the law, keeping bad company, and heavy drinking. There was a point that He was accused of being the devil himself. This Jesus was so compelling and so dangerous and so scandalous that the religious leaders had to kill Him to try to keep him quiet. This Christmas we are going to look at the beautiful outlaw that is Jesus.

This summer we will look at the most famous first words of all time. Jesus spent his first 30 years in obscurity and when he finally launched his public ministry, he did so with three chapters filled with wisdom, life lessons, and insight. Jesus' famous first words are known as the sermon on the mount and this summer we are going to see that 2000 years after they were first spoken they are just as life-changing.

20 years ago Jim Collins wrote a book to help business people take their business from good to great. 2000 years ago a man named Paul spoke similar words to his mentor Ephaphras on how to take his life and his church from good to great. Wouldn’t it be great if you and I could team with the God of this universe to help us go beyond good and experience great? For the next month, we are going to look at the book of Colossians and get insight from the original author of good to great.

Often within the church, you may hear the expression “a personal relationship with Jesus.” Sometimes this is misinterpreted to mean something that’s so personal that we keep our faith to ourselves. Throughout history church has taken on a myriad of different looks. In the 50s church was about rules and ties and flat tops. In the 70’s it was Maranatha music, long hair and flip-flops. In the 90s it was khakis and reaching the seeker. The church has had thousands of different style changes in its 2000 year history but there are some things that God has called us to regardless of the century. God‘s plan is not based on haircuts or style changes. It is based on the grace and love of Jesus that has the power to transform.

For many of us, the amount of things that matter in our life is large and ever increasing. Your car matters. Your house matters. Your career matters. Your physical fitness matters. Your fashion matters. Your finances matter. Your kids matter. Your marriage matters. Your church matters. Everything matters. What would you say if I told you that the amount of things in your life that really matter is much smaller than you think? Over 3000 years ago one of the wisest people to ever walk the planet wrote a book called Ecclesiastes to help us understand how to live a life to the fullest by understanding what truly matters.

In many ways, hymns are the oral history of our faith. Like the Psalms in Scripture, they are passed from generation to generation and sung in cathedrals, chapels, or around a family piano.
All For Hymn, a five-week series, will delve into some of those classic hymns and explore their meaning, breathing new life into their melodies to illuminate the hope they have for us today.

Do you know you have an enemy? I know that sounds far fetched but it’s true. You have someone who lies to you on a regular basis. You have someone who is rooting against you.
The Bible has plenty of names for this enemy. Devil. Accuser. Thief. Evil one. This enemy that wants to get in between us and God. What does this mean for modern day Christian’s? Is there really a battle still going on? Ephesians 6 tells us “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Sounds scary, right?

At some point in your life, you were a "one." There are so many parables in the Bible where Jesus makes it all about "the one." One lost sheep, one lost coin...God cares about the "one." Our mission statement at Canyon Springs is simple. "It's about the one." What exactly does this mean? Well first, we want you to be in a relationship with the One, Jesus Christ. We believe His life can transform your life. Second, we believe we are better together and God wants us to be in relationship with other "one's." We can't do this alone. Third, we pray that you have a heart for those that do not know God and you would learn to love the next "one." So many of us found faith because someone loved us right where we were at. Fourth, we believe that we are all called to participate with the one. God has a ministry for you.

We spend a good amount of our lives in rows. Almost every class we’ve gone to we sat in rows. Every movie we’ve watched we have sat in rows. We sat in rows at our favorite concerts. Even church happens in rows. Here’s a simple fact about rows. We gather in rows and we learn in rows and we are entertained in rows, but most of our personal growth happens in circles. We circle around the dinner table. We circle around conversations at parties. We circle around our small group. There is nothing wrong with rows but if you want significant growth to happen in your life you have to learn to circle up. Join us for our five week series as we work through the purpose of being in community with one another.

There is nothing wrong with rows but if you want significant growth to happen in your life you have to learn to circle up. Join us for our five-week series as we work through the purpose of being in community with one another.

Much of the world has an idea, opinion or story about Jesus, even those who don’t follow Him. Google His name and you can develop whatever picture you want of Him. Everyone has an opinion on who Jesus is. For the next 7 weeks we are not going to be looking at what others say about Jesus but what Jesus says about Jesus as we work through some of the great “I AM” statements from the book of John. What would it look like if at the end of these 7 weeks you had a fuller picture of who God is and you found yourself being transformed by the Great I Am?

Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly." (Mt. 11:28-30 MSG)

We all want to transform our minds but here’s the deal. We don’t even realize how much we have allowed our minds to be conformed. Some of the ways we conform have become so much a part of us that they just seem natural. Some are so hidden we don’t even realize we are being conformed. Today we are going to look at one of the ways we have conformed ourselves that in my opinion is the most hidden, the pride trap.

Genesis. It means ‘beginning.’ Genesis is all about beginnings: the beginning of the world, the beginning of human civilization, the beginning of evil in the world, and the beginning of hope. It is also the promise of new beginnings. One man would receive a covenant. Another would load a boat up with animals. The stories can seem so disconnected and unique while actually, they tell the story of a larger narrative that all points to Jesus and are all connected by Christ. Join us for our deep dive into the book of Genesis as we spend 8 weeks seeing how this book of beginnings points to new beginnings in Christ and walk away realizing how very practical and life-giving the book of “beginnings” can be. Want to take a dive into the book of Genesis with us?

Genesis. It means ‘beginning.’ Genesis is all about beginnings: the beginning of the world, the beginning of human civilization, the beginning of evil in the world, and the beginning of hope. It is also the promise of new beginnings. One man would receive a covenant. Another would load a boat up with animals. The stories can seem so disconnected and unique while actually they tell the story of a larger narrative that all points to Jesus and is all connected by Christ. Join us for our deep dive into the book of Genesis as we spend 8 weeks seeing how this book of beginnings points to new beginnings in Christ and walk away realizing how very practical and life-giving the book of “beginnings” can be.

Freedom has been my biggest struggle during the quarantine season. I have been researching what God says about freedom and how I can find new freedom for the last three months. On Sunday I would like to unpack what God has been teaching me. I am probably going to get more vulnerable than I would like but I believe God is in the middle of teaching me some lessons about freedom. Perhaps you need to learn these lessons too.

How is it that two people can stand at an altar and vow to love each other forever and then end up hating each other more than any other person on the planet? We reserve our most negative emotions for the people we are closest to. It’s not just a spouse. It could be a parent or a grown child or a former friend, but this kind of thing happens all the time. This Sunday we are going to look at two habits God wants to bring into our lives that can bring us to a place of health in all our relationships.

There are two great moments with goal setting. Setting the goal and reaching the goal. Unfortunately, most of life is spent in a third place. It’s the middle spot between setting the goal and reaching it. We spent most of our life living in the unresolved. There is pain in this middle space. There is waiting in the middle space. But there is also growth and maturity when we learn to live in the unresolved. Do you find yourself living in the unresolved right now? Take a moment to let God encourage your heart and make you the person you want to be in this space.

There are a lot of things in faith that are blurry and hard to understand. If God is so loving why did He create evil? What really is Heaven? Is Hell a place where you actually go to physically? Maybe you don't really care about God and these questions are the foundation to your doubt. Maybe you consider yourself a Christian and you have never really wrestled with some of the tougher subjects of faith. In the next several weeks we want to go through some of the blurry topics of faith and help you understand them in a transformational way so you enter 2020 with a healthier 20/20 view of God.
