‘For the Love Of’ was conceived as a compendium of thoughts and ideas which could be explored through conversations on far ranging topics. These include, but are not limited to, film, television, books, podcasts, history, culture, photography, design, and just about everything else in the middle.
With an avid interest in the documentation and dissemination of knowledge as well as a being a podcast junkie, I have always wanted to start one of these - mostly about things I find fascinating, thought provoking and intellectually stimulating.
Here’s my take. New Episodes every Saturday!
Hi. Welcome to Episode 12. I’m your host Noel Woodward and this is For The Love Of.
Before I get into the episode. I’d just like to announce that This is the season finale and I’ll be taking a break to work on the Season 3 and another audio project that is in the pipeline. Super excited about it and more on this as I continue developing it.
In the meantime, I will be working on bonus episodes every month. To stay in the know do remember to click that bell icon or follow us on your favourite podcast app.
Also, the podcast turned a year old last week. It’s been an incredible journey so far and Season 2 has surprised me in more ways than one. So a big thank you to all my listeners for tuning in and supporting the show. It really means a lot. If you’ve got thoughts/ideas/comments you could send in an email to connect@fortheloveofpodcast.in or you could do me a solid by leaving a Review on Apple Podcasts and tell me what you think of the show!
For The Love of Design | Talking Practice with Sachin Ambekar (Part II)
This time around I’ll be talking to a former colleague and a dear friend of mine who has co-founded his own architecture practice, in Gujarat. We’ll be discussing his time at architecture school, his post-graduation at CEPT University, a Scholarship to Switzerland, Design Education in the country and the rigours of architecture as a discipline.
A gold medallist at Gujarat University and a CEPT scholar, Sachin is passionately devoted to architecture and design theories. The inter-disciplinary collaboration between design, craft & technology enthrals him. By exploring how the different agents interact, he hopes to discover a new perspective to better problem-solving.
After working at Studio PKA, Mumbai, Sachin decided to branch out and start his own practice – SS Design Studio - with his partner Sanjana Samel, with a keen focus on adapting a multi-disciplinary approach to architecture and design.
In Part 2 of the episode, we explore Sachin’s practice – SS Design Studio – what kind of architecture he relates with and the future of design.

For the Love of The Refrain | Reviving Folk Music with Abhinav Agarwal (Part II)
Abhinav Agrawal, 27, an ethnomusicologist, musician and social entrepreneur is also the Founder Director of the Non-Profit Organisation, Anahad Foundation. Abhinav worked towards creating and reviving the diminishing folk music industry in India by creating self-reliant models that generate livelihoods, pride and dignity for stakeholders connected to this art form.
He is generating a demand and value for cultural folk music through building respect, recognition, identity and self-confidence of folk musicians, and in parallel creating a self-sustainable economic environment where an artist can distribute their productions directly to the public without an intermediary. In doing so, Abhinav is helping create a Folk Music industry that is a sustainable art form and an industry that is musician led.
This was one of my favourite episodes of Season 2 and was extremely fortunate to get to speak with Abhinav and hear his story and all the work that has gone into giving folk artists a voice through the Anahad Foundation.
This is Part 2 of the episode, we continue our conversation and discuss the Anahad Foundation, the Fellowship program, Equals Sessions and projects in the pipeline.

For The Love Of The Page | Leave The World Behind by Rumaan Alam with Shreya Desai
Shreya is an architect who loves consuming good food and literature. She’s always been a book nerd but in the past couple of years couldn’t make or find the the kind of time for it.
This last year she’s been been reading a bit too much and sleeping too little.
Apart from that, Shreya has taken her passion one step further by starting a book related Instagram blog, called @Papergrammer which helped keep her reading in check as well as be a part of a reading community that she wasn’t aware of. It has also exposed her to a diverse range of material that has been both fun as well as inspiring.
As the title suggests, with this episode we dive right into Rumaan Alam’s book that’s been hailed favourably by critics and book lovers alike. The Page is a recurring segment, which I hope to build upon in the coming months.

Hi Welcome to the Sixth Episode. I’m your host Noel Woodward and this is For The Love Of.
For The Love of Filmmaking | Lights, Camera, Action with Swayam Khanna
Swayam is an aspiring filmmaker with a vision of bending the notions of mainstream/commercial works to bring out the actual power of cinema by subconsciously settling in ideas to the audience and use the power of the medium to entertain as well as educate, especially Indian society at large.
Swayam is not a stranger to the show. He’s been part of 3 episodes now where we’ve discussed two tv shows – Normal People and I Know This Much is True as well as a documentary on Netflix called the Social Dilemma.
In this episode we talk about Swayam and his passion for films, how he got into working on them as well as his recent projects – Mom, a crime thriller starring Sri Devi which is now on Netflix, Aarya –an Indian crime series on Disney Plus Hotstar that stars Sushmita Sen and Mirzapur – which needs no introduction.
The episode airs this Saturday.

For The Love Of True Crime | Charles Sobhraj: Through the Eyes of The Serpent
The first podcast I ever tuned in to was Serial, which to be honest, is easily one of the best podcasts out there. Now into its third season, Serial set a benchmark has spurred a podcast revolution especially when it comes to True Crime as a genre.
My fascination with this however stems from some fantastic films and tv in Zodiac, Seven, Hannibal, Bates Motel, True Detective and a more recent shift to True Crime with Making a Murderer, The Jinx, Mindhunter, The Keepers, When They See Us, American Crime Story.
To kickstart the segment we’ll be exploring the life of Charles Sobhraj - Crime and Investigation have put it together rather succinctly.
"Variously described as ‘Asia’s premier serial killer’, ‘The Serpent’ and ‘The Bikini Killer’, Charles Sobhraj was an infamous con artist, drug dealer, jewel thief and cold-blooded murderer. Through the 1960s and 1970s, he wove his guileful and lethal web of deceit and crime, evading authorities from numerous countries.
Skilled at befriending people, his victims were usually vulnerable Western tourists in Southeast Asia. In and out of prison, he led a life of risk, manipulation and conspiracy that eventually made him a media celebrity. Never convicted for all his crimes, Sobhraj is estimated by some to have committed over 20 murders, whilst others put this number at 32.
Rearrested in 2004, he is currently serving a life imprisonment sentence in Kathmandu, Nepal, for a double murder in 1975."
In season 2, I hope to bring a few guests on the show where we discuss some of the most intriguing stories when it comes to true crime – in and around the sub-continent.
That’s all folks. That was season 1. 10 episodes across 3 and a half months. Let us know your thoughts by sending in a voice note to connect@fortheloveofpodcast.in. Come on now. Don’t be lazy! I’ll be spinning it off into a bonus episode as soon as I can compile it all.
While we’re on hiatus, I’ll be busy recording Season 2. I've got some really interesting conversations lined up – so looking forward to that.
Also, The Big Little Screen –where we talk about films and television will continue to be released as a monthly segment so there will be content to chew upon!
So stay tuned guys and don’t forget to Subscribe to us on Anchor, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts and wherever else you listen to your favourite Podcasts.

For The Love Of The Game | Manchester United, Arsenal and The Premier League with Ratik Sharma
Ratik returns for our penultimate episode for the season where we talk about the League as well as the teams we support in Manchester United and Arsenal.
So! Here we are! It’s D-Day! And we couldn’t be more excited! As I’m sure any football fan would be. We’ve seen a very stop start kind of a season but hopefully that’s behind us now and the return of the league brings back a sense of normalcy.
We have a lot to talk about and to look forward to from analysing the previous season, to the players coming in and going out as well as the three new teams entering the league.
Welcome back to the Premier League!
Also, since this is going to be the penultimate episode of the season, I have a small request for all our listeners. I for one would love to hear from you. Please send in your questions/thoughts/ideas/requests in the form of a 30 second (max.) audio clip to connect@fortheloveofpodcast.in
Depending on the number of audio clips, I’ll decide to either add them to the end of the last episode or could even put this out as a bonus episode where I address your clips and talk a little about my experience working on the podcast as well! Looking forward to hearing from you all!

For The Love Of The Game | Manchester United, Arsenal and The Premier League with Ratik Sharma
Ratik returns for our penultimate episode for the season where we talk about the League as well as the teams we support in Manchester United and Arsenal.
So! We are a couple of days away from the League and we couldn’t be more excited!
So stay tuned. The episode airs this Saturday at 1 pm Indian Standard Time. It’s going to be a long episode, but do tune in before the season opener.
For The Love Of The Big Little Screen | I Know This Much Is True with Sampada & Swayam
For our next episode, we have Sampada and Swayam returning for a segment that we have cemented as the first recurring monthly talk show, where we discuss everything that has to do with all the latest films and tv shows called – The Big Little Screen.
With this we’ll share what we’ve been watching over the past couple of weeks and what we are looking forward to in the months to follow.
We’ll be dissecting a particular show or film and even commenting on the work of directors, cinematographers, actors and composers – and we’ll try all this by keeping spoilers to a bare minimum, unless mentioned otherwise.

For The Love Of Photography | Through the Lens with Nipun Prabhakar (Part II)
In the first part of the episode, Nipun speaks about his life as a photographer and architect, chronicling the numerous events that led him towards his passion for photojournalism.
If you haven’t heard it as yet, I suggest you listen to that first and then tune in to Part II.
Nipun Prabhakar is an independent photographer and architect based in Kutch and Delhi. He works on long term photo-documentary projects. Besides that, he designs, researches and documents the intersections of built environments and communities.

His thesis on the rehabilitation of the riot-hit community in Muzaffarnagar won him a National Award by the Council of Architecture and Tamayouz International Award for the Best Graduation Project.
Nipun has been engaged in multiple rehabilitation projects in Nepal which also involved him extensively documenting public spaces and architectural heritage. He has since worked on photo essays for various national and international organizations.
He was the co-recipient of the Berkeley Essay Prize 2014 and was the Cornell South Asian Fellow for 2019-20 for his project on Doors of Kathmandu.

Hi. Welcome to episode 6 Part II. I’m your host Noel Woodward and this is 'For The Love Of'.
For The Love Of Tech | Creating, Learning and Sharing with Ratik Sharma
Ratik, has always been someone who loves technology. This love has materialized into various things over the years. As a kid, it was all about playing Pokemon crater or club penguin on the computer after a school. As a teenager, he was jailbreaking people’s iPod devices, teaching himself Photoshop on the internet and running a (moderately successful) tech blog and YouTube channel to teach people what he knew.
While the title does say tech, it takes an unconventional path as we talk about Ratik’s mantra of creating and sharing content all the while learning along the way. The episode focusses on his passion for podcasting, music, programming and all the tech that has inspired and influenced him along the way.
Part II of the episode takes the discussion forward as we explore the future of gaming when it comes to the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5.
If you haven’t heard Part I, I suggest you head back now and check that out first.

While doing all these things out of interest and a pursuit of joy, he unknowingly picked up on design, programming and web development skills along the way. Ratik never really consciously planned on learning any of these, they were just a way for him to create something. Little did he know that he’d be using these very skills to build a career in the future!
The idea of making things and publishing them is very dear to Ratik. While he is officially a software engineer now, he still considers himself a “maker” at heart. Software is just one tool he has in his arsenal and he still makes all kinds of things in his free time – be it random coffee related clips, music covers and experiments, or even a podcast which he worked on last year.
I had a blast recording this one!

Tarun Bhasin is an alumnus of School of Planning and Architecture Bhopal. He is currently pursuing an M.Sc. in Building and Urban Design in Development from the Bartlett Development Planning Unit, UCL.
He is passionate about understanding the role of architecture in the public domain of the Global South, primarily India. Therefore, his vocation and observations extend beyond architecture as a design and construction based discipline to a vocation that borderlines other vocations that are not defined by independent logic such as economics, sociology, philosophy, literature etc. His observations and style stem from him being a writer, who has approached architecture, with words rather than graphics.
Tarun has participated and received recognition in a few national and international competitions. He is currently working on his dissertation that is about understanding India's rural-to-urban migration to suggest participatory co-production planning strategies and consequent policy frameworks to alleviate their conditions.
He is simultaneously working on operationalising his blog 'YodaGoesSkinnyDipping', and also working on concretising some startup ideas to put into action post masters.
He considers himself a hobbyist, and his objectives stem from a desire to explore general knowledge, and being entertained while doing so, rather than competitive ambition.
So stay tuned as I connect with an old friend and discuss his journey over the past couple of years and the stories that help define cities and its people. All this through his brush with architecture, design, his love for long form writing and an insatiable desire to know more.

Hi. Welcome to Chapter 02 . I’m your host Noel Woodward and this is ‘For The Love Of’.
The Second Episode has been split into three parts. If you haven’t heard For the Love of Potter | Chapter 01, I suggest you head on over to the second episode.
Just a quick heads - up. If you don’t know what this podcast is about, I suggest you head on over to the Preview before this, or you could even check out the info reel that covers everything I’ll be talking about.
Potter has always been my go-to refuge whenever I’ve felt low as well as when I’ve been extremely happy! Don’t know if that makes sense but I always feel at home whenever I read the source material or watch the films. Harry Potter took the world by storm when it was released and encouraged millions of kids to read and dive headfirst into the magical world of the boy wizard.
J.K Rowling has effectively defined and inspired an entire generation of readers – a rare and impressive feat – and made reading cool, thrilling, addictive and an event to look forward to. I’m glad I decided to go with this one. It takes me back to almost two decades ago.
We continue our session with The Someday Lists – to know more about him and his work tune in to Chapter I or click the link shared as part of the show notes.

Hi. Welcome to the third episode. I’m your host Noel Woodward and this is ‘For The Love Of’.
Just a quick heads - up. If you don’t know what this podcast is about, I suggest you head on over to the Preview before this or you could even check out the info reel that covers everything I’ll be talking about.
This podcast began as a means to experiment with different ways of sharing content, improving on delivery as well as learning how to produce a show, record and mix sound – before the final product is put out for all of you to hear.
This third episode is just that.
For The Love of Storytelling | The Silhouette
I’m a huge fan of Lore – the extremely riveting and spine-chilling podcast by Aaron Mahnke – you should definitely check it out.
So this one here is a short story inspired by Lore and I hope to add to this as the show continues.

Harry Potter: What Magic Sounds Like
We recorded this a couple of weeks ago and this, in no way endorses what Rowling has said or done over the past couple of days. What's wrong is wrong and apologies are in order. However, the content still remains very close to the both of us and we decided to go ahead with the episode. This was initially planned as a single episode but we ended up recording a whole lot more and we decided that it was best to break it into 3 Parts.
That was Chapter 01 that you just listened to. I’ll be uploading the remaining 2 Chapters every alternate week, so expect a new episode next week. There’s a slight change to the preview schedule as well. All previews will now be landing on Wednesdays rather than Sundays.

Hi. Welcome to our very first episode. I’m your host Noel Woodward and this is For The Love Of.
Just a quick heads - up. If you don’t know what this podcast is about, I suggest you head on over to the Preview before this or you could even check out the info reel that covers everything I’ll be talking about.
Also, this isn’t going to be a one man show. I will be getting a couple of people on as the show progresses and I’m really looking forward to hearing other people talk. Trust me!
So our first episode is For The Love Of Poetry - Reading ‘Keeping Quiet’ by Pablo Neruda.
Pablo Neruda was a Chilean Poet - Diplomat and politician who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971. Neruda became known as a poet when he was 13 years old, and wrote in a variety of styles, including surrealist poems, historical epics, overtly political manifestos, a prose autobiography, and passionate love poems such as the ones in his collection Twenty Love Poems and A Song of Despair (1924).
It’s interesting how things really aren’t ever forgotten. All they need is a trigger like a sound or a smell or even reading certain words that have been strung together to form a narrative.
This fascination with 'Keeping Quiet' was rekindled back in Architecture School while writing a piece for an Ecology assignment – where the essay was juxtaposed with the poem - and once again after reading about the poet as well as listening to recitations of his work on brainpickings.org
If you haven’t heard of Brain Pickings then you’ve almost certainly been living under a rock. Head on over and check out Pablo Neruda’s Extraordinary Life, in an Illustrated Love Letter to Language where Maria Popova talks about an enchantingly beautiful children’s book Pablo Neruda: Poet of The People.

Hi Guys! I'm your host Noel Woodward and this is For the Love Of! I’ve been busy recording, putting things together, procrastinating a bit - figuring out how to write whatever I’m saying right now - planning out episodes, narratives, guests as well as a launch date.
I don’t really have a date in mind though, but it will most likely be early next month. I’ll be covering a mix of subjects from Poetry to Storytelling & from Filmmaking to Photography - I’m extremely excited to share what we have in store for you.
