Sean DeVore schools us on the issues that arise when a carpet is flooded and then has to be removed.
In the case he presents today, it also required abatement as there was asbestos found in the layers of tile under the carpet.
Sean then talks about the main issue of 2022 was utilizing quality installers for vinyl flooring.
Most of the issue was, and most likely still will be, that most installers are not professionally qualified to lay these flooring materials down.
Thus, his advice.

Today we join Paul Noe at his retirement party held at GEM Supply in Lakeland, Florida. (pardon the background noise, but it was a party!)
Since 1978, Paul has been working with his family in the cleaning industry here in Lakeland, after leaving Pittsburg in 1977 when steel mills were closing.
Paul talks about how much money could be made, Back in the Day, by just taking on the cleaning jobs. In 1980/81, the family gave up the cleaning side of the business and focused just on selling supplies.
He tells about working weekends, and holidays and getting those 2-3 AM calls, not to mention the call on a Sunday afternoon during the football game!
NO ONE WILL HAVE HIS CELL # ANYMORE!
Paul reminisces about learning what a buffer was and how to "Buff the Floor" as the client wanted. Hey, that was in the days before GOOGLE!
Punch a time clock! Heck no, not in 40+ years.
There are just too many things we talked about as we tripped through Paul Noe's memories. You'll have to listen to catch them all.
However, we will tell you that he is leaving the continental US as soon as he can, that's his retirement plan.

Flagler Schools is working on the last of many security updates to the reception areas of several buildings.

Mike Ward, a Facilities Manager at a school district in Ohio says, "There are a few options on how to handle Face-to-Face meeting situations."
- Use surveys to set up the meetings prior to going into the particulars.
- Take a direct services staff member with you; ie. a plumber, electrician, custodian, etc.
- Show the super or principal what you know is happening from surveys you have done, maybe even how to use the system fully.
- Do a building walk, be sure that a service staff member is with you.
Mike says these will change depending on the age of the buildings and can range up to an hour or more. Principals know what they want to show you.
Always ask what they feel needs room for improvements. Some of the challenges is knowing your principals as they change, depending on how large the district is.
Mike says, "You're never done with customer service."

Kenny Seybold is the Director of Custodial Operations at Flagler County schools in Palm Coast, FL.
Kenny tells us in this episode that COMMUNICATION is the key to all facility maintenance issues. It is with everyone, from the Superintendent, Principal, Asst. Principal to the frontline custodian, it is the most important issue on every level.
Kenny and Flagler use a program called Essential Assets for work orders and Event Manager.
From the Home Show with over 30,000 people to the 1,500 person auditorium, a middle schools dance, to the wrestling matches, all of these have to be coordinated with facilities management because come Monday morning, the students will be utilizing all of these same areas for learning.
"If you are new to Facility Maintenance, you need to have communicational skills above all," says Kenny.

She is a columnist for and a board member of several publishing organizations and a trusted teacher in the world of independent publishers.
When not in the office, her focus is on the working poor and poverty elimination, and she spends a great deal of time personally and professionally working with and training women from disadvantaged backgrounds. A member of several charitable and political organizations, she donates not only her time but a portion of her company’s profits to grant-based charities that work to alleviate the cycle of poverty.
She is a singer in a Celtic blues band on the weekends and is saving for a faster motorcycle.
