Minnesota and Las Vegas will meet for the final time (during the regular season...) tomorrow night.
The Twins bullpen was shaky last night, but was able to hold on for a 6-5 win over the Texas Rangers last night. Kenta Maeda had his best start of the season, throwing eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings of work. Jorge Polanco knocked in two runs, including the insurance needed with an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Twins are 11-16 and have won three of their last four games. They are still in fourth place in the AL Central by 5 games.

It was an up-and-down weekend for Minnesota sports. The Timberwolves coughed up a 10-point fourth-quarter lead in an OT loss to New Orleans that snapped their four-game winning streak. The Wild and Blues went down to the wire in all three games of the mini-series, losing the first two before Kevin Fiala hit the game-winner on Sunday night. The Twins won two of three over first-place Kansas City and now welcome last-place Texas to Target Field for four games, and the Vikings are getting high marks for the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Wild have clinched their eighth playoff appearance in the last nine seasons after a 6-3 win over San Jose on Saturday night. Calder Cup-hopeful Kirill Kaprizov has now scored a goal in five straight games to give him 22 on the season. The Wild have won seven straight games and will put that winning streak on the line against the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night. The Wild play the Blues three times this week.
The Utah Jazz is 26-4 at home this season...and 0-2 against the Wolves at Vivant Arena in Salt Lake City. A day before clinching the first playoff spot in the West, the Wolves came from behind to beat Utah 101-96. The Wolves are in Utah again tonight with a tip-off at 7:00.
The NDSU Bison are back in the FCS Quarterfinals for the 11th straight year after a 42-20 win over Eastern Washington. The Lakers girls basketball team hasn't lost in a while though. They're riding a four-game winning streak and haven't lost since February 9th. Busy night in Laker sports last night. The Girls Basketball returned to the floor for the first time since February 18th after their COVID pause and kept their winning streak intact, beating Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 43-36. Lakers have a huge matchup tomorrow night at home against Bemidji. That game will be on KDLM at 7:30.
Ella Hess tallied a hat trick last night as the Laker Girls Hockey team beat Prarie Center 7-0. The win gets the Lakers above .500 at 7-6. The Lakers have three regular-season games left: Friday @ Morris, then home games against Crookston and Thief River Falls next week.
The Laker Boys hockey team also won last night as they celebrated Senior Night at the Kent Freeman Sports Arena, beating Park Rapids Area 6-3. The Boys have won two of their last three to get back to an even 7-7 record. They have four games left: Crookston and Alexandria on the road, then Wadena-Deer Creek and Crookston at home.
The Boys Basketball team overcame a 13-point deficit to steal one from East Grand Forks in overtime last night. Christian Solberg tied the game with 1.9 seconds left, then DL outscored EGF in overtime 8-5 to win 74-71. Zack Oistad finished with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Elias Gloege finished with 11 points off the bench, including clutch free throws in overtime to help DL secure their first win since their COVID pause. The boys travel to DGF to face the Rebels tomorrow night, then have an afternoon game on Saturday against Section opponent Little Falls.

In other big news, Kyle Rudolph was released by the Vikings yesterday. Rudolph ranks 10th in franchise history in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns...including the franchise record for most touchdowns by a tight end. Rudolph was drafted by the Vikings in 2011 and now hits free agency for the first time.

A lot of sports action over the weekend with the Twins, Gophers, Wild, Timberwolves, and Bison all in action. The Twins won their spring training opener 7-6 over the Boston Red Sox. The Twins are back in action this afternoon against the Tampa Bay Rays.
If there were fans at the X on Saturday night, it would have become an outdoor stadium. The roof would have literally blown off the place after Matt Dumba's overtime winner as time expired to beat the Kings 4-3 in OT and extend their winning streak to five games. Wild are also back in action tonight in Las Vegas.
Things didn't go so well for the Wolves and Gophers. The Wolves dropped their seventh and eighth straight games over the weekend: a 128-112 loss to Washington on Saturday and a 118-99 loss to Phoenix on Sunday. The Wolves have a couple of days off before taking on Charlotte on Wednesday (the Hornets beat 120-114 on February 12th).
The Gophers are reeling. After losing to a Northwestern squad that hadn't won a game in two months, the Gophers followed that up by losing to a team that hadn't won a Big Ten game at home in over a year, falling to Nebraska 78-74. Gophers are now 0-9 on the road, 6-12 in Big Ten play and 13-12 overall. They have one more chance to win a road game. They're in Happy Valley to take on Penn State on Wednesday evening.
The Bison's 39-game winning streak is over. The Bison lost for the first time since early November 2017, losing to Southern Illinois 38-14. The Gophers became the latest team to blow a fourth-quarter, losing to Rutgers last night to fall to 0-6 on the road. This Gopher team has beaten #7 Ohio State, #8 Iowa, and #4 Michigan (Michigan's only loss...) but is still only 4-7 in the Big Ten.
