Guest Landrie Tribble, a new mother in Texas, shares her story of the coincidental timing of the arrival of a hurricane and her first child. We’ve heard the reports from friends and family in the coastal areas of Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico. Some of the communities recently affected by the hurricanes are far enough from the coast that the potential threat of a hurricane is generally minimal. Immense amounts of rain led to unexpected flooding creating emergencies and disaster beyond the typical rainy season, creek-rising-in-your-backyard type of floods. Imagine yourself as a young couple, happily settled in your home in a neighborhood where were you might occasionally see the creek in your back yard overflow its banks once every other year. Now imagine your family growing and the due date for the birth of that newest family member coinciding with the expected landfall of a major hurricane. That’s the story of Landrie and Jason Tribble.

Guest Georgia Witt talks about serving the Lord as a career missionary in Kenya. She works as a seminary librarian at Matongo Lutheran Theological College (MLTC) located in western Kenya. She works closely with Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Ind., and the Chemnitz Library Project to set up an automated library system and provide online services for the seminary students. Georgia assists seminary students with their research needs, with accessing resources and with navigating the college’s library. Michael Salemink, Executive Director of Lutherans for Life, discusses the current situation of Charlie Gard, the 11-month-old boy in the United Kingdom whose parents are fighting for the right to treat his rare genetic disorder rather than allowing him to die. Charlie is currently on life support, and doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital want to remove his life support and let him "die with dignity." Although Charlie’s parents have appealed to the High Court for their right to treat their child, the Court agrees with the Hospital. Today we talk about whether quality of a person’s life is a reason to let that person die or to try a treatment option that, while the chances of success are slim, has a glimmer of hope of success. Missionary Story: Deaconess Gail Ludvigson - Guest Deaconess Gail Ludvigson serves the Lord as a career missionary in the Dominican Republic. In this role, Gail writes and teaches courses for the diaconate program at the Lutheran seminary in the Dominican Republic, El Reformador, in consultation with other deaconesses. She helps to promote diaconate ministry in the Dominican Republic and the Latin America region through fundraising and communications. Gail also assists in ministry to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and serves the local churches as a deaconess in any way that is needed.
