There is something powerful about coming to the table with friends and family. In the gospel of John we see this moment of conversation around the table where Jesus reminds us we have a place at the table because of His work. In fact, even in His going back to the Father He prepares a place for us at the table.
Is it even possible for humans to be altruistic in our motivation toward others?
You may have heard that believers in Jesus go "from glory to glory." But Jesus, at the close of His ministry, defines what the motivation and outcome of altruism is. When it comes to the light and dark motif of scripture one thing is certain. Light always overcomes the darkness. Judas allows the dark places of the soul to take over, but even in the midst of his descent, Jesus offers forgiveness.

There is a vast chasm between good, bad, and perfect. Unfortunately, perfection escapes us all; that is until Jesus came and offered the most mind-blowing trade imaginable. Our sin for His perfection (righteousness).
In revealing Himself as the Light Of The World, Jesus also reveals the reality of two kingdoms. That of darkness and of light. The invitation is extended to each of us to enter the light through the LIGHT.
There is nothing like fresh water to quench your thirst. Jesus makes a declaration in the first century about being the living water and that declaration echo's into today and this moment for each of us.
Jesus didn't fit in the constraints of the worlds system and He calls us to a life of the same. It means paying a cost but the destination and life promised will only serve to authenticate a better way, the only way.
This moment in the life of Jesus becomes a turning point in the life and ministry of Jesus. In the natural it seems like the beginning of the end but we know all too well it's the beginning of the beginning!
There are moments when Jesus says things that seem hard to swallow like, "eat my flesh and drink my blood." However, as we begin to understand that He's capitalizing on the symbolism of the moment to bring an eternal truth we find life instead of death.
There is a hunger and a thirst that exhibits itself in our lives in so many ways. We try to fill it, ignore it, or are driven and controlled by it; either way we cannot satisfy it. That is until we have a revelation of Jesus who shows Himself to be the answer to what we've been searching for.
Though we walk in faith we still feel the weight of the risk. It's only when we come to the conclusion that we don't have what it takes that we begin to see the ONE who does.
"Jesus won't multiply what we won't release". There is a principle at play with our next moments in the Gospel of John. The tighter we hold things the less potential there is for multiplication. But if we hold it loosely and offer it to Jesus the growth is exponential.

The book of Ezra describes a time in Israel's history when they are released from captivity and begin rebuilding the temple foundation in Jerusalem. In our time and day the story carries principles and correlations to and for the unique moment we find ourselves in as the Church today.

Today we pause to reflect on the atrocities of the past and stand with our indigenous peoples still affected by them in the present. We reflect with repentance on a dark history and by the grace of God look towards reconciliation and a bright future. In todays video we hear from Pastor Bruce Brown a survivor of the residential schools and a dear Pastor in our fellowship.

The fruit of the Spirit isn't the only "of the Spirit" we find in Scripture. There is also the gifts of the Spirit. We can sometimes get our focus out of step when it comes to laying the foundation of our lives. Today we're going to explore where our focus should start and circle back to.
When we talk about the fruit of the Spirit there is an important distinction. This fruit is OF THE SPIRIT. Too often we attempt to substitute supernatural fruit for that of the synthetic man-made variety.
We are taking a break from our "Gospel of John" series and entering a mini-series entitled: "Markers of Maturity". In this video Pastor Lucas helps us frame the conversation as we discover the fruit of the Spirit.
Though we would like to know the mechanics of everything eternal and get a peek behind the curtain to see how God works we are confronted with the mystery.
But in pursuit of understanding the mystery let's not get distracted from the main thing. As we continue our series in John, Jesus makes some hard truth claims about both salvation and the end of days.
The opportunities for awe are all around us and yet we tend to miss them for any number of reasons. In this video Pastor Lisa encourages and challenges each of us to see the awe in Jesus and His works once again.

Worship is a journey of rejoicing, reverence and then response. The life of worship always leads us to life change.
As we explore the 51st Psalm we are convinced that, "His mercy is greater than your worst moments and His grace is the source of your best."
Pain demands all of our attention—but to not meet that demand and look to Jesus is how we move from hurt to hope, from pain to praise.

This week we conclude our journey together as we establish the values that shape us as a community of faith.
We must be those who are convinced of two truths:
- We are more than #blessed, but we carry the blessing and restorative power of Jesus everywhere we go.
- We get to pour that blessing out to Powell River and beyond through the words of our mouths and the gifts in our hands.
Generosity does something deep within us and changes us in ways that would otherwise be untouched.
From the beginning of Jesus' institution of the church the mission has been disciples making disciples.
There are two parts to this mission.
- Be a Disciple
- Make Disciples
There is a deep need for the Church to return to the deep places of prayer. Prayer is the medium of relationship with our Creator and our great opportunity is to be known and to know Him in prayer.
The first of 8 value statements that will shape the culture of Evangel Church moving into the future.

We so often act according to the names we've given ourselves, other's have spoken over us, or even those the enemy of our soul speaks over us. It's time we let God speak a new name over us.

We've all been hurt by others, the question is what does our Creator say about what to do with that hurt and those who have hurt us.
How do you approach the 90,000 hours you will spend working? The teachings of Paul call the believer in Jesus to a place where work is worship.

Christianity addresses the deep brokenness of the human condition and then moves the world.
Jesus is the great equalizer.
Question: Does the way you live your life define your relationship with Jesus or does your relationship with Jesus define the way you live your life?
Rules for the sake of rules leads to failure, shame, and hiding. Rules for the sake of relationships lead to community and maturity.
The fundamental answers to knowledge, reality and existence are found in the Person, Jesus Christ.
In other words,
To know Jesus is to know.
This is a tale of two kingdoms. We explore two realities of the faith as we live out in this season of life. We both bear our cross and wear our crown.
In order to know God we must know Jesus. Jesus is the invisible God made visible to us.
Nothing changes if nothing changes. Walking out this faith journey calls us to the hard work of change.

These are the steps Joshua receives from God and is told that if followed he will have success. A success as defined by the Creator of all things.
