Hutchings and Reed discuss the six steps to creating an antiracist school system in this podcast. Doug Reed's teaching and research interests center on educational politics and policymaking, American political development, and American constitutional law. He recently wrote Building the Federal Schoolhouse: Localism and the American Education State (Oxford University Press, 2014). The book examines how changes in the federal role in public education have reshaped local politics and how, jointly, federal, state, and local actors have constructed the American education state over the past 50 years. "Politics of Proficiency: Common Core and the Inequalities of American Education." is the title of his second book.
Dr. Reed is the co-founder and director of the Program on Education, Inquiry, and Justice at Georgetown. This recently-created program views education and the teaching arts as a central element of the liberal arts. Doug Reed received a Spencer Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellowship from the National Academy of Education and was named a Carnegie Scholar by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

Kevin grew up in poverty and attended school in more than 20 states before becoming the first high school and college graduate in his family. During that time he was nominated for Sallie Mae Master Teacher, Kansas Master Teacher, and won The Making IT Happen Award, as well as being published in educational art journals. He then transitioned to a role as a staff developer and keynote speaker at an educational non-profit service agency for the next 17 years. During that time Kevin conceived and developed multiple research based programs in the areas of project-based learning, trauma/poverty informed instruction, SEL, STEM/STEAM education, and Digital Legacy. He was an Apple Distinguished Educator in 2011 and delivered a TEDX talk in 2015.
Kevin has worked with teachers and students in 49 states plus Puerto Rico and has delivered keynotes to audiences all over the world in places such as Oslo Norway, Hong Kong, Shanghai, New Zealand, London, Manila, multiple provinces in Canada and multiple cities in Australia including locations in the Outback such as Groote Eylandt. He is a husband, father, grandfather, published author, and entrepreneur. In 2021 he partnered with his wife of 31 years to start his own company, Honeycutt Consulting, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

"But we found that the benefits of support [in a relationship] and the disadvantages of strain are exaggerated for the men." When hurt, women are likely to become depressed while men tend to engage in substance use or abuse, according to Simon. And the more problems a guy faces in a relationship, the higher he tended to score on a substance abuse scale. Psychologist and author Frances Cohen Praver believes the emotional gender difference could be due to the fact that women are actually less sensitive to the issues. "Women are more naturally expressive," Audrey Nelson, author of "Code Switching: How to Talk so Men Will Listen," told ABC News. "We'll cry, show our feelings – when a woman is having a hard time, she has two or three friends she can talk to, to ease the pain. Men have the same feelings and emotions, but they have no outlet."

He was instrumental in implementing the cutting-edge Academies of ISD 7 years ago in the Independence School District. He also oversaw all instructional and educational activities in the Independence School District’s middle and high schools. Before coming to the ISD in 2013, he spent 14 years in the Lexington (Mo.) School District as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and the last four as superintendent of schools. Prior to that, he was a Missouri State Trooper. Brad earned his bachelor’s degree at Northeast Missouri (now Truman) State University, his master’s at Central Missouri State (now UCM), and his specialist and doctorate degrees at William Woods University.
Brad retired from public education and serves as the Chief Learning Officer at Global Classroom Exchange, an education company that supports human-centered innovations in classrooms across the globe. Brad also builds and implements strategic plans with education leaders that view the future of community development and education through the lens of human-centered engagement and industry/community connection. Learning loss is a common and traditional term, but how can learning be lost if it were never found? That is the situation with remote learning during the pandemic. Teachers worked hard and students work hard, but some standards may not have yet been met, hence the term from the DOE, unfinished learning. Many schools are leveraging summer school as a solution to address this issue, but what are other solutions that schools are implementing? After earning a Masters degree in ESOL and Bilingual education from Kansas State University, she taught in low-income schools in Emporia, KS, and San Antonio, TX. She continually advocated for her students and their families who faced barriers with education, language and income, before starting her family with her husband and moving to Las Vegas. After a brief two-year stint in Las Vegas where she loved the weather and outdoor adventures but missed friendlier people, her small family jumped at an opportunity to move back to Kansas in 2008. Once back in Wichita, Liz became an “accidental” ministry leader, co-founding a moms’ group at her church that grew into a ministry, prepping her for the next path on her calling journey. In 2013 Liz co-founded GLSEN Greater Wichita (now GLSEN Kansas), a local chapter of a national organization that works to ensure all students feel safe, valued, and respected in K-12 schools regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity and/or gender expression. After seven years of working diligently to ensure that Kansas schools are safer and more inclusive for ALL students (and taking years of Kansas Leadership Center courses) she decided to take a leap of faith and expand on the leadership coaching business she started in 2019. This Spring she is transitioning out of her Chapter Director role within GLSEN Kansas to focus on her leadership consulting business, Center of Daring. She’s excited about continuing her work with individuals and people from all sectors to empower and support folks ready to be courageous catalysts in their communities. George Perreault has been on the leading edge of technology integration in education for over two decades. Chris Aviles is a teacher at Knollwood middle school in Fair Haven, New Jersey. There he runs the renowned Fair Haven Innovates program he created in 2015. Part of his FH Innovates program includes the FH Knights, the first middle school esports team in the country. As coach of the FH Knights, Aviles and his players take on all comers from around the country including other middle schools, high schools, and even colleges. Chris has been involved in esports since 1998 and he is passionate about growing the esportsedu movement. He has authored The Esports Education Playbook and runs a nonprofit, Garden State Esports, to help other educators start esports teams in their schools. Nate Simons is the Director of Technology for the Louisville Public School District in Louisville, NE. The district is PreK-12 and all in one building with about 650 students. Along with his tech director and teaching duties, he is also the high school Esports coach. Nate is on the board of the Nebraska School Esports Association (a NASEF affiliate) where he helps to organize season tournaments and helps to grow the scholastic gaming community. Ruben then attended graduate school in Azusa, CA where he obtained his Masters in Social Work in 2013. After obtaining his Masters in Social Work, he then went back to Baker University and graduated with a Masters in Healthcare Administration with an emphasis in Healthcare Administration. Ruben currently works for Aetna Better Health of Kansas as a Behavioral Health Service Coordinator as well as doing part time crisis for Family Service and Guidance Center where he works with children that are having a mental health crisis. Ruben also serves as an adjunct professor for Washburn University in the Master of Social Work program. When not working Ruben also currently services on the board of directors for CASA of Shawnee County as well as assisting with the Foster Parent Advisory Board with KVC. Ruben and his husband, Matt Lara are currently parents to five children.

Ken Shelton is an educator, Ted X speaker, International speaker and very involved in the educational technology community. Ken is especially involoved at the intersection of where technology,education, and equity meet. In this episode, Ken discusses systemic racism, the tough questions educators should ask in order to make the policy decisions that will disrupt racism in our schools, from standardized tests, to discipline, to the curriculum, Ken Shelton explores these issues through a racial lens.
