Personal Power is our ability to adapt, effectively, to the change in our life. It's our ability to persist in the face of challenges, maintain steady self-belief, and with confidence, meet each new day ready to realise our full potential. I believe that whenever we take on big, intimidating goals, we flex our personal power and it is what wakes us up to the possibilities available to us. In this episode, I talk how and why we must keep alive our sense of personal power. If you feel limited by your circumstances, how inner power can help you overcome those restrictions and win despite the odds stacked against you. A woman's sexuality has always been shrouded in guilt and secrecy. Due to years of conditioning, women have relinquished control over their own bodies, and it’s not just society but a lot of women as well who perpetuate this practice of avoidance around sexual discussion, who believe that we shouldn’t be open about our sex life, we shouldn’t actively pursue pleasure, and independently create guidelines for our own sexual behaviour.

In this episode, my guest, Erin Kyna and I seek to change that narrative and introduce our listeners to the incredible transformation that happens when a woman takes back ownership of her sexuality and gives herself permission to actively design a life where no societal norms or dysfunctional beliefs hold her back from seeking pleasure, health, and wellbeing.

We hope that this conversation will remind our female listeners that in every way, shape, and form, your body belongs to you. It is an instrument that is meant to serve you, and it is not a vessel of pain, shame, or guilt. It’s only job should not be to endure but to be the receptacle of pleasure that almost goes beyond the physical. When you experience sexual pleasure that has no shame, no conditions, no restrictions attached to it, you experience freedom in it’s most basic form.

My guest, Erin Kyna is a trauma informed sexuality healer, coach, teacher and poet, liberating women to experience their pleasure potential in all areas of life including sex. She has been on this journey to empowerment for the last ten years, travelling the world, and guiding other women along their path as she follows hers. Erin is the host of the Sex and Healing Podcast, proudly transforming listener’s lives with her wisdom and stories, in over 50 countries around the world.

Discrimination has been a constant challenge that has obstructed growth all over the world and yet, the basis of discrimination, the prejudice that drives it in and of itself is never reason enough to dismiss or denigrate someone. This episode is my attempt to understand what drives discrimination and how women can respond to gender discrimination at work in a way that's compassionate, intelligent, and doesn't jeopardise their growth.

Chloe Valdary, the creator of The Theory of Enchantment, shares ideas and techniques that have the power to transform how we see ourselves and then how we in turn interpret the world around us, including how we respond to moments of injustice and discriminatory actions.

After spending a year as a Bartley fellow at the Wall Street Journal, Chloé Valdary developed The Theory of Enchantment, an innovative framework for compassionate antiracism that combines social emotional learning (SEL), character development, and interpersonal growth as tools for leadership development in the boardroom and beyond. Chloé has trained around the world. Her clients have included high school and college students, government agencies, business teams, + many more. She has also lectured in universities across America, and her work has been covered in Psychology Today Magazine and her writings have appeared in the New York Times and the Wall St Journal.

In this latest episode, award-winning, multi-disciplinary designer Neo Khama shares how we can create impactful brands that are authentic to our character, life story, and our mission.

Neo Khama works with boutique wellness, lifestyle and beauty entrepreneurs to create thoughtful and compelling brands. She is passionate about bringing an entrepreneur’s creative vision to reality, and empowering founders to create a brand they love and are proud of. Having run a successful design business for the last 10 years she understands the roll-coaster ride that most entrepreneurs go through, having followed her gut to leave a fashion marketing role in London to move to Shanghai and pursue a freelance design career, despite her lack of graphic design training. Her previous marketing roles ensure that Neo learnt the importance of story-telling and being able to reach an audience with effective communication.

In today’s episode, we discuss-

  • What elements should lead the way as we go about cultivating our brand persona?
  • What role does personal clarity play in the process?
  • We always have to take into consideration - the market trends and what appeals to the target audience, how do we do that without smothering our authenticity?
  • Spinning our stories or making it appealing from a marketing perspective in terms of design, how do we balance that in a way so that we still show up as we are and connect with the audience without self-distortion?
  • What goes into building a successful brand?
  • Managing negativity especially when it's aimed at our work

In this episode, I talk to D'Ana Joi, a multi-passionate educator, community builder, and content creator about how multi-passionates can live a fulfilling life, a life where they don’t have to deny any piece of themselves, where they get to express every aspect of their character without risking burn out. “I think if I've learned anything about friendship, it's to hang in, stay connected, fight for them, and let them fight for you. Don't walk away, don't be distracted, don't be too busy or tired, don't take them for granted. Friends are part of the glue that holds life and faith together. Powerful stuff.” - Jon Katz   In this episode, Julie Nguyen and I talk about the complications of initiating and sustaining friendships as an adult. We discuss -  1. How the 'friendship dynamic' has changed for Julie and I 2. Why ghosting is unking and what to do instead 3. What to do when we feel that our friends are taking us for granted or abusing our trust 4. What are some personal qualities that can help us be a better friend 5. How to be friends with people who don't share our interests 6. How to set boundaries

In this very special episode, I talk to Elisa Romeo and Adam Foley about the concepts covered in their book, Holy Love: The Essential Guide to Soul-Fulfilling Relationships.

We explore, at length, the concepts of soul, ego, divine, and love, the Interplay between soul and ego and how it impacts our life and how we show up in the world. This episode will change your perception around love and relationships. It will give you an idea of what a deep, abiding love that transcends all social restrictions and mores can feel like and how it can enrich your life. Adam and Elisa also share how we can commune with our soul and find a similar connection with our partner or nurture the relationship we already have through conversations that happen at a soul level, bypassing the ego.

Elisa Romeo, MFT, and Adam Foley are the authors of Holy Love: The Essential Guide to Soul-Fulfilling Relationships and cohosts of the Holy & Human Podcast. Elisa is a licensed marriage and family therapist, an intuitive, and the author of Meet Your Soul. She teaches others how to connect to the still-small voice of intuition to access their ultimate and eternal Love self. Her worldwide private practice, which grew by word of mouth, consists of thousands of clients, who she works with by merging her background in depth psychology with an ability to directly communicate with the Soul. Adam traveled India and trained with world-renowned gurus and became a certified somatic practitioner and yoga instructor. Yet it wasn’t until Adam met Elisa that he experienced himself as a Soul and understood the eternal nature of love. As a healer, he uses spiritual coaching, somatic healing and his own intuitive abilities to connect people to their Soul. Together, they help individuals awaken and deepen their soulful nature within relationship.

In this episode, we cover-

  1. The concept of Soul-level love
  2. Elisa and Adam’s idea of a healthy, functioning relationship
  3. Can relationships flourish in the absence of spiritual alignment and compatibility?
  4. For those who are looking for love, what element should be allowed to guide their search?
  5. It seems that (based on the way Elisa and Adam talk about it) holy love and its accompanying concepts can almost help us create a sacred sanctuary within ourselves. Is that true? Is there power to that?
  6. Are these concepts meant only for people with religious inclinations/beliefs?
  7. How does one stop limiting love?
  8. How vital is self-love and acceptance for healthy functioning of a relationship from a spiritual perspective, and can spiritual health even flourish in the absence of self-love and acceptance?
  9. Hearing the voice of our soul and tapping into its intuition

Carl Honoré, the godfather of the slow movement, discussed slowing down in a way that brings home to us just how mindlessly we have been living and how deeply it can impact our health, happiness, and wellbeing. The hustle culture will have us believe that happiness hinges on success and competition, purpose means pursuit of social accolades, and living your passion necessitates late nights and a relentless pace - we question all that and more in this episode. Slow living gives us the space to examine our priorities and what our 'happy' really looks like.

We learn about helping our kids grow up with better values, normalise boredom for their benefit, and encourage them to prioritise their wellbeing and cultivate a value system that supports healthy living. I especially appreciated the narrative that Carl creates around the benefits of slowing down so that instead of looking at it as something that can potentially derail our professional or social growth plans as most of us do, we appreciate the benefits of slow living.

Carl Honoré is a bestselling author, broadcaster, and two-time TED speaker. He is also the voice of the Slow Movement. He has published four books, and his latest book, Bolder: How To Age Better And Feel Better About Aging, is a spirited manifesto against ageism. Published in 35 languages, Carl has landed on bestseller lists in many countries. Carl has been featured in a series for BBC Radio 4 called The Slow Coach in which he helped frazzled, over-scheduled people slow down. He also presented a television show called Frantic Family Rescue on Australia’s ABC 1.

We discuss-

  • Why Carl chose to focus on the slow movement
  • The downside of the pace we maintain and the benefits of more deliberate living
  • How do we talk ourselves past the fear of slowing down
  • Bad Slow vs Good Slow
  • Building better relationships with our digital devices
  • Normalising boredom for the kids we are raising
  • As kids reach an age where they start to get competitive about their performance (academic, extra-curricular, and social), how do we help them cultivate the right value system and prioritise their health and wellbeing
  • Rituals that can help + practical steps we can take to slow down a busy life (addressing people who have no other choice but to keep going all day long)
  • Carl's favourite meditation/mindfulness practice

In the latest episode, I talk to Mike Robbins about integrating authenticity and vulnerability into our work personas and our personal lives and in doing so, creating a safe space for open emotional expression so that we can all speak our truth, live more honest lives, raise emotionally intelligent kids, and contribute to building a world that has a lot more understanding and a lot less judgement.

Mike Robbins is an author, a former pro baseball player, a sought-after keynote speaker, and a media personality. He has also been a guest on hundreds of TV and radio shows throughout the United States and Canada and his work has been featured in several publications. Mike is also the host and creator of his own podcast, We're All in This Together, and previously hosted two internet radio shows. Mike’s fifth book, We're All in This Together, just came out.

We discuss-

  • Which piece of his content (the books, ted talks, all the articles, and the interviews) is Mike most invested in, to date.
  • How to pursue big goals + bring our ‘A-Game’ at work without self-distorting?
  • Despite the insecurities engendered by the pandemic, people are moving towards more purposeful, authentic career choices; is there a way for us to bring all that to our corporate careers so we don’t feel compelled to take unsustainable risks?
  • When we are in our work environment (especially, in a leadership capacity), is there a way for us to make space for our emotions without fearing that it would make us look less ready & qualified for the job?
  • How do we embrace vulnerability without feeling exposed and ashamed? Why it’s important to do that, not just for our own selves but for others as well?
  • The value of intentionality when it comes to personal interactions and life choices, and how it helps us nurture and create more secure environments.?
  • What did Mike learn from his experience sharing personal stories with people all over the world? How did he feel in the moment and after? How did he get past the fear of vulnerability?
  • When our performance is a key metric for inclusion, we are bound to feel judged, how do we create a sense of security and belonging in such spaces?

Overnight, the world has become a place of chaos and uncertainty. We are all struggling in one way or another. Some of us have lost loved ones, opportunities, and even our home countries while a lot of us are reeling with anxiety and fear. During such tumultuous periods, It is important that we take care of ourselves and be a support system for others as well which is what we discuss in this episode. To be a part of someone's pain and absorb some of its impact is not an easy thing to do, it requires a lot of compassion and empathy but both those elements seem to be in short supply considering the way we have all been behaving. As much as we believe (and hope) that we are all naturally compassionate beings, I think for it to seep into our interactions, we have to nurture that instinct and learn to treat our own selves with kindness and generosity before we can learn to be a safe space for others. I discuss all that and more with Elizabeth Svoboda in this episode. We discuss-

  • How compassion differs from empathy
  • Why it’s such an essential part of our emotional toolkit
  • How kindness and generosity impact our brain health
  • How to cultivate self-compassion
  • How to create a place of safety and love within ourselves
  • How we can show compassion to others without letting go our own peace or sense of safety
  • Talking about it and teaching others to be compassionate

Elizabeth Svoboda is the author of What Makes A Hero: The Surprising Science of Selflessness. She is also a science journalist and she has written for publications like the New York Times, Psychology Today, the Washington Post, and Scholastic Choices, and she has even received the Evert Clark/ Seth Payne Award for Young Science Journalists. Her stories have covered a myriad of topics, from the biology of resilience to the psychology of thoroughly modern breakups. Her second book, The Life Heroic: How to Unleash Your Most Amazing Self is meant especially for young heroes-in-training who want to transform their communities.

No matter how loving and healthy a relationship is, there are moments when the partners indulge in battle for power and domination; it can be subtle and subconscious or it can be an out-and-out fight; whether the relationship survives or not depends on the emotional maturity of the involved parties. Maintaining a healthy power dynamic in a relationship is very important and not just for the longevity of the relationship but also for each partner to grow and thrive. You can be one half of a relationship but for the relationship to be an asset, it has to be good for your health and wellbeing and that's not a relationship where you have to fight for space and consideration.

In this episode, I talk to Dr. Kristie Overstreet about how, in a relationship, we can maintain the balance of power, constant reciprocity, and a safe space for open emotional expression. I will recommend this episode especially to women who constantly downplay themselves and their power to accommodate their partner's ego.

Dr. Kristie Overstreet is a clinical sexologist, psychotherapist, a TEDx speaker, author, and consultant. Dr. Kristie has published two books, Fix Yourself First: 25 Tips to Stop Ruining Your Relationships and Fix Yourself First: 4 weeks to Improve your relationship as a couple and has a Podcast by the same name. She is also launching a new course next week, Fix Yourself First: Better You for a Better Relationship.

We talk about-

  • What does a healthy relationship and a healthy partner look like
  • How women can dominant role in a relationship without hurting the health of their relationship or their partner's feelings
  • How it can be healthy for women to take the lead in the bedroom
  • Toxic masculinity and how it adversely effect a relationship and how we can help our partner overcome such challenges
  • Why women find it difficult to self-prioritise and how they can get past the fear
  • Critical Dos and Don'ts when communicating in a relationship
  • When does it make sense to approach a therapist or a coach

In this episode, I'm talking about something that is key to recovery and growth for a lot of people; it’s about owning your story, living your truth, declaring your truth and doing it from a place of grace and patience something that our guest, Brian Broome understands and embodies.

Brian Broome is the writer behind the book, Punch me up to the gods, an incredible memoir; Brian shares his story- the early years growing up in Ohio as a dark-skinned Black boy struggling with his sexuality with his father, friends, and other important people in his life forcing him to conform to a very restrictive definition of how a black man is supposed to behave, dress, and even think leaving no room for honest self-expression.

This book is gut wrenching and heartbreaking but it’s also glorious, strangely uplifting and despite the very painful story that has been shared in it, deeply relatable. This story is about a gay, black man who spent years trying to make sense of what the world expected of him and trying so hard and failing to find a point of reconciliation between all those expectations and everything that his heart and soul yearned for and we all have at least some understanding of what that feels like; we’ve all denied our truth for more acceptance and in doing so, lost our identity and our individuality in the struggle that followed. Brian lost himself too in drugs, alcohol, and sex but in today’s conversation we learn a little bit about how Brian found the courage to take ownership of his story, and make his way back to sanity and a place of truth where he was able to accept his past and make room for a future that’s truly his own.

Brian is an award-winning writer, poet, and screenwriter, and K. Leroy Irvis Fellow and instructor in the Writing Program at the University of Pittsburgh, and today he is sharing with us some of what he has learned from his struggles and how we can all begin our own journey towards living a more honest life.

For as long as we live, we’re always looking for guidance, for answers and most of us look for these answers in books, or in the ideas and opinions we receive from others, but what if everything we need to know to truly live an authentic, meaningful life, all the answers reside within us and they are communicated to us via dreams, or subconscious promptings that come at us out of nowhere at exactly the right moments. We talk about such callings and their power to help us build a better life in this episode with guest, Gregg Levoy.

We discuss - how callings can change our lives, how we can be more receptive to them, the tools we can use to identify a true calling and distinguish it from a false one, and how best to navigate possible challenges we may encounter along the way.

Gregg Levoy is the author of Callings: Finding and Following An Authentic Life —rated among the "Top 20 Career Publications" by the Workforce Information Group—and Vital Signs: The Nature and Nurture of Passion (Penguin). In this inspiring and informative episode, we talk about authenticity - what it means, and how to explore what our authentic self looks like. We cover topics like present self-awareness, how to discover your authentic self, building a support system, handling (healthily) negative feedback, and nurturing a relationship with the inner critic and inner mentor.

We were guided by Amelia Kruse (https://www.ameliakruse.com/)

Amelia is an established leadership coach (PCC, EQAC) who helps creative professionals develop their emotional intelligence and leadership abilities to find their form of holistic excellence. She works with leaders and aspiring leaders from companies like Droga5, Google, Spotify, AirBnB and Anomaly.

Amelia began her career as an environmental consultant before co-founding the 'creatives without borders' business, Komai, where she worked predominantly in South East Africa developing music education initiatives in collaboration with The New School in New York. She then went on to work at Refinery29 as the Director of Product Marketing and experienced first-hand the life-changing benefits of coaching and fell in love with the philosophy.

In 2016 she received her certification in coaching from the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and founded her own coaching practice. She is based in New York and coaches clients globally.

In this episode, she helps us learn about the concept of authenticity, and how we can live an authentic life that supports all our needs and doesn't veer towards any extreme ideologies. We’ll learn about how best to explore the concept independently by exploring our psyche, belief system, motivations, needs and desires to put together a clearer picture of who we are at our authentic best. Sometimes, doesn't it feel like we're all unwilling participants in some kind of competition about who 'does' life best? We feel like everything is under examination- our physical appearance, careers, relationships, etc. This gets worse as we get older, and our age starts to make visible changes to our body.

With each advancing year, we should all be glad for the wisdom and experience we’ve collected with each preceding year, we should revel in the self-knowledge that allows us to make better choices and only choose adventures that speaks to our soul. Unfortunately, too many of us are worried about becoming irrelevant, losing our love for life, and losing the energy and drive that makes us interesting.

I know that a lot of people after a certain age feel exactly like that and while, it’s natural to fear the change that age brings with it, at the same, I really want each and every one of us to embrace those very changes with grace and remember that none of it actually defines us; it doesn’t dictate who we get to be with each new day which is what we’re talking about in today’s episode.

Our guest, Dr. Susan Hardwick Smith (https://completemidlifewellnesscenter.com/) is an award-winning, Board Certified Obstetrics and Gynecology physician, author and life coach based in Houston, Texas. In addition to starting one of the largest all female OB/GYN groups in the country, she is also the founder of AGIL, a line of skin care products and certified organic transdermal hormones that support optimal aging. Susan is passionate about helping women navigate midlife while remaining vibrant, connected and sexually satisfied. She has done extensive research on the subject of menopause and sexuality and has written a book ‘Sexually Woke’ which talks about exploring the need for a deeper connection with oneself and others in order to join the “Sexually Woke,” a group of over 1,000 women surveyed who have discovered vibrant sexual and spiritual lives in midlife.

Dr. Susan has herself gone through an awakening in her 50s that led to the kind of change that demanded a complete upheaval of all things comfortable and familiar, but Dr. Susan handled it like an absolute badass and did whatever was necessary to create a life that she adores. A lot of us categorise trauma as something violent that we’ve either been a victim of or a witness to, but actually Trauma refers to any experiences or events that overwhelms our senses, disrupts our internal and external balance making it difficult for us to cope, or have a healthy sense of self. We may be carrying trauma but we may not be consciously aware of it because either we’ve suppressed it, or we have dismissed it as unimportant and irrelevant; we’re going to understand how that can happen, and how it may derails our life.

Our guest, Ilene Smith (http://ilenesmith.com/) is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner with 3 years of training in the field. She is a Certified Professional Coach and holds a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counselling and as well as Exercise Physiology.

When I chose the topic of trauma, I decided to invite Ilene on the show so that I can introduce to you a different form of therapy that can be just as helpful in resolving trauma. Somatic therapy focuses on the body instead of the mind and Ilene helps us understand how it works, what a session with her looks like, and why this form of therapy may be the way to go for someone with trauma.

Trauma healing provides the foundation to Ilene’s work, and she helps clients resolve trauma symptoms and relieve chronic stress and pain in the body. Integrating several modalities into her practice including talking, touch work, and movement, Ilene is able to safely bring clients from trauma states back into a new and empowered state, allowing them to cultivate a healthier sense of self. As you work on building a better life, you will find that there are issues that despite much effort, you won’t master. A lot of people with anger issues blame the stress from work or running a home. When our relationships keep failing, we often think it’s because of the person we’ve become. An inability to maintain good health gets blamed on the hectic schedule and an overwhelming to-do list. What a lot of us don’t realize is that the problems we face may not have its cause in the person we’re today. The issue may be with the very foundation of our character, a self-defeating belief system, or childhood insecurities that may still be crowding our emotional space. In this episode, we explore the importance of healing past trauma, negative experiences, and emotional bruises. We go over the process and the techniques that can help. Listen to the episode if you are ready to heal your past and tap into your full potential.

Hey there! I am super excited to be launching this podcast and embarking on this new adventure with you. In this episode, I share all about what led to the podcast and a little bit of my story.

The theme of the podcast was chosen based on certain common issues raised by the people I have worked with in the past year. And it seems that instead of consciously choosing a path based on an honest self-evaluation and an understanding of what really matters to us on an intellectual and emotional level, we are being pushed into directions that were never meant for us. Some of us are just playing the age old comparison game and some of us have become unwitting members of the performative workaholism group. What constitutes a life of joy and how we can truly live a life of meaning are just some of the questions I have tackled in this brief episode. In case of questions and comments, reach out to me on Instagram (mehra_krati) or use my website, https://www.kratimehra.com/
