In this episode of the Heart Revolution podcast Maria interviews Phil about his new writing project: Royal Heart Therapy: Reframing the Ministry of the Beloved Son. In this episode Phil continues the conversation around the theme of the progressive sanctification of the soul. Two theologies compete for our allegiance. The new perfectionists argue that all we need to do is believe that God has finished the work of sanctification in the soul and we will manifest perfection. Phil unpacks Paul’s theology that reveals an enduring inner conflict between the flesh (the old self-life) and the new life of the indwelling Spirit. Paul taught that the work of the Spirit in our spirit is a finished work whilst the work of the Spirit in our soul is a far from finished work.
In this episode Phil and Maria dive into the interesting subject of the relationship between the miracle that God has performed in creating us anew (the new birth) and the progressive dismantling of the old self-life. There are teachings in the current move of God that insist that the ‘flesh’ no longer exists and that the finished work of Christ is so comprehensive that our souls do not need any further sanctification. Phil explores this idea and replies to it by explaining what Paul means by the ‘flesh.’
In this episode Phil and Maria discuss the difference between the language of the head and the language of the heart. Our heart has a voice, but we all need to grow in our ability to discern what our heart is really saying. Part of our conversion to Christ consists in learning heart language; to identify what our heart feels and experiences as we journey through life. Jesus is always speaking to our heart, but we could miss His voice if we don’t have the right language.
In this episode we begin a conversation around the theme of the encounter paradigm. Encounter is a heart engagement with God. It is God’s heart reaching into our heart. Real heart transformation kicks in through a deepening journey of knowing God intimately and experiencing the presence of His glory. This is a strongly charismatic paradigm that is designed to lead us into the healing and transformation of our hearts.
