This study of the final events of Jesus’ life on earth is an eye-opening, gut-wrenching, faith-strengthening exercise. Learn from Luke’s carefully researched account that Judas the traitor was influenced by Satan. That the disciples abandoned Jesus. That powerful people testified to Jesus’ innocence. That Jesus wascrucified and declared dead… And that He rose from the dead! Jesus offers freedom from sin, a relationship with His holy Father, and an eternal life of joy.

It’s time for the Hallelujah party. We get a taste of the rejoicing to come in the future when Jesus reigns, when His enemies are crushed and all is right in the world! Book Five of the Psalms has given us great reasons to praise the Lord. He is the deliverer. He is faithful. He leads us through the trials of life with mercy and strength. And He has a plan. I hope you'll join the celebration. We ended our study together with praise of the Lord by reading Psalm 145 aloud together. Then we waved our arms to the children's song: Hallelu - Hallelu - Hallelu - Hallelujah, Praise ye the Lord! And then we sang and played instruments and made some noise along with Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir's version of "Psalm 150 - Praise Ye the Lord" .

I would like to introduce you to Psalm 144! This is the last of the psalms of suffering. It is the final prayer for help in the midst of enemies and affliction. The rest of the Psalms - 145 through 150 – are psalms of praise that declare that God does deliver His people.I’ll explain to you in the video how Psalm 144 fits into the grand scheme of the book of Psalms and corresponds to the eternal timeline as I understand it. But first we'll get an understanding of what David was praying for when he wrote this psalm. This is a great psalm of dependence and anticipation! I think once you become familiar with it, you'll want to pray it during your times of need. **** This weekly women's Bible study includes lectures by me, Elizabeth Bagwell Ficken, which coordinate with the study guide "Come, Let Us Worship" which can be found on Amazon. Psalm 119 is definitely a full flowering of praise to the Lord for His word! It shows us the passion that this servant of God had for the Torah. It shows us blessings that we receive when we are immersed in, dependent on, and obedient to God’s word. It shows us that when the trials of life press down hard on us, God’s word comforts, sustains, directs, and revives us.

Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! This is the attitude and perspective of the Hallel, Psalms 113 -118, that are sung during the course of the Passover celebration. Psalms 73 through 89 reveal the depth of pain and confusion that the Israelites experienced. These psalms ask hard questions. And God doesn't answer them. So there is bewilderment. Suffering. Sorrow greater than any sorrow that has ever been experienced before. These psalms give us guidelines on how to grieve.

We have a great hope ahead of us… a hope and a joy that far outweighs all suffering here on earth. When we are suffering, we have precious promises to remember – that one day pain will exist no longer. God is going to make all things new and wonderful. And so we endure today as we wait for the best tomorrow. When we all get to heaven – what a day of rejoicing that will be – when we all SEE JESUS.. we’ll sing and shout the victory! Our women’s class did an in-depth study of Psalm 72 for their homework, and after our group discussion, I presented a quick overview of the timeline of future events. On display was a model of the Millennial Temple that I made for my Bible study on Ezekiel (based on Ezekiel 40-48).We reviewed descriptions that the Psalms give us of Jesus as King of the Millennium, and then tried to comprehend the magnificent blessings of Jesus’ 1000 year reign! **** This weekly women's Bible study includes lectures by me, Elizabeth Bagwell Ficken, which coordinate with the study guide "Come, Let Us Worship" which can be found on Amazon. Psalm 69 allows us the privilege of looking straight into the depth of emotion that David experienced when he suffered tremendously under the oppression of those around him. We’ve seen that emotion in previous psalms, but this one has aspects we’ve never considered. The surprise in this psalm is the raw emotion and ANGER that David expressed to the Lord – his indignation and desire to see justice carried out against his enemies. Psalm 69 is one of the 3 most intense, extreme imprecatory psalms.

I enjoyed studying Psalm 56 and seeing David’s urgent plea and great faith in the midst of fear. It was also so comforting to learn that God keeps our tears. He knows our sufferings and is so compassionate toward us. One of the most critical things that we can gather from all of the stories of David’s life is that he knew the God of Israel. What is presented to us in Psalms 52-60 are “days in the life of David.” In the midst of trouble again and again, he trusted the Lord. He knew that there was no safe place to turn to.. no place to hide… except, in the shelter and presence and promise of God. David certainly gives us an example of faith to follow!

It’s wonderful to read Psalm 51 at the beginning of this new year of 2021! It’s also wonderful to be reading this psalm as we watch all the current events happening around us in the world right now. Psalm 51 gives us the perspective that we need in our individual lives to walk humbly with our God. It also shows us the need that every person on earth has: to be forgiven of sin and to be transformed by the power of God. Read it for yourself, and if God gives you the opportunity… encourage someone to read Psalm 51. **** This weekly women's Bible study includes lectures by me, Elizabeth Bagwell Ficken, which coordinate with the study guide "Come, Let Us Worship" which can be found on Amazon. The New English Translation Study Bible notes call Psalm 45 a romantic poem celebrating the Davidic king’s marriage to a lovely princess. The psalmist praises the king for his military prowess and commitment to justice, urges the bride to be loyal to the king, and anticipates that the marriage will be blessed with royal offspring. In this episode, I will explain Jewish wedding customs and then consider the grandeur of our Bridegroom - the Messiah - Jesus Christ.

Psalm 33 is a great hymn of praise to the Lord which gives the forgiven ones of Psalm 32 an opportunity to sing out their praise. In the celebration declared in Psalm 30, David says that he will praise the Lord! Why? Because the Lord lifted him up, healed him, and kept him alive. He basically says: I’ll praise you Lord because you saved me!! You brought me from death to life.

Psalm 25 tells us to trust the Lord, to be taught by Him, to wait for Him. This psalm, though written thousands of years ago, is applicable in any crisis, any distress, at any time throughout history. In the video on my website, there are powerpoint slides that highlight the actions we should take based on God’s Word. And the actions that God will take. The handout has blank boxes next to the passages of Psalm 25. This page might become a very helpful resource for you to turn to during times of great difficulties.

Psalm 22 begins with the ultimate question "why?" It comes from the time of Jesus’s ultimate suffering: My God, My God, WHY have you forsaken me? Why have you abandoned me? This psalm prophesies of the crucifixion of Jesus – the Christ. The Messiah. The crucifixion of the Son of God: The King. We can learn much about how to endure our own times of suffering by seeing how Jesus suffered, and trusted God while suffering.

Nature shows us the Lord and even more perfectly does His word reveal His character, ways, power, and plans – all of which are good for us as humans who need : restoration… wisdom… instruction… joy… an eternal perspective… and something which is an absolute – a true, right standard – by which we can judge ourselves.
As God reveals Himself and His ways – we will find ourselves lacking just as David did. We need to be warned of sin, to be convicted of sin, to find that we fall short of the glory of God, to find that we need forgiveness.
Psalm 19 tells us that God's Word does this for us.

When we look at Psalms 17 and 18 side by side, we see that they go together. Psalm 17 is the prayer, and Psalm 18 is the praise for the answered prayer. There are lessons to be learned about prayer from Psalm 17 and about praise from Psalm 18. Two main points that we should note are that Psalm 17 is the prayer of an innocent person, and the praise of Psalm 18 gives God the glory for His powerful deliverance.

We will consider the plea, the perspective, and the promise of this very special psalm. It’s quoted in the book of Acts in reference to the resurrection of Jesus, so it a messianic psalm as well as a prayer of trusting the Lord. This lecture follows the workbook lessons on Psalm 8 and 15.

Three words in Psalms 1 and 2 are keys to the book of Psalms and what we should make our focus. I'll talk about each one and point out how Psalms 1 and 2 give an introduction to the book of Psalms, but more importantly than that, they tell us exactly what to prioritize in our lives. The keys are Torah, blessing, and refuge.
It's a delight for me to share a few personal reflections about Psalms 23, 27 and 145. I can’t say that these are my favorites, because choosing my favorite psalm out of 150 psalms would depend on the moment and my mood.
But these three psalms have made an outstanding and ongoing impression on my life. They are three special flowers given as sweet gifts to me like these three flowers on display which were given to me recently.
I hope you will enjoy hearing how God has impacted my life with Psalms 23, 27, and 145. And I hope you will enjoy reading them again as gifts from the Lord to you.
At the end of my talk, I ask you to answer these questions:
What one verse in Psalm 23 means the most to you…..today?
What one verse in Psalm 27 is important…..meaningful…..comforting….. today?
What one verse in Psalm 145 stands out to you.....is a special way.....today?
