A few months ago, I was on Vincenzo Landino's podcast discussing my book on improv and marketing, 'Stop Boring Me!" Afterwards, he and I co-created an article called "The Ten Brand Commandments." We used "yes, and" - the fist rule of improv - to create this together. My belief is all marketing should run like an improv group. 'Yes, and' is a powerful marketing mindset. For more: visit www.keepingithuman.com and you will find the article on my blog.

How do you tell your story when your service, product, or technology is new to the world?

It's a question I get a lot and a good one. The truth is it's not all that different from the way we communicate anything - with great stories. We'll talk about this and more on the podcast Thursday, February 25th at 3:30 PM PDT. Join me.

In this podcast, the first of 2016, I will be talking about how to streamline and humanize your communications with prospects and customers this year. Mindfulness is a human operating system and we need to think differently about not just our content; (the what) we need to think diffferently about how we communicate. How we communicate can destroy or add value. And we all want to be in the "add value" column.

Happy New Year - no let's go out and Humanize!

I love this model: It's called the 7-Step Story Spine created by Kenn Adams. I have written about it many times and have used it for years. I learned this model in improv theater - yes, the stage! The stage is where great storytelling happens that takes us on an emotional journey that we care about. It's just one approach to getting started, and, as you get more experienced and comfortable with the main pieces, you can adapt, extend, add on to this model.

It's a great, simple way to think through narrative structure for any story. The 'once upon time' approach is a universal method that we all recognize and it models not only how great stories move through different elements; it works because that's how our human brains think. In stories!
