In this episode of our podcast, we delve into the essence of emotional intelligence, spotlighting the three critical traits that set apart highly emotionally intelligent individuals in today's polarized landscape. Our exploration begins with a foundational insight: situations are rarely black and white. As we navigate an era marked by sharply divided opinions and narratives, acknowledging the complex spectrum of human emotions and scenarios becomes increasingly crucial. Bryant discusses the importance of moving beyond binary perspectives to appreciate the nuanced realities that define our world.

The conversation then shifts to the indispensable skill of open-mindedness, a cornerstone of emotional intelligence. Amidst a barrage of information and diverse viewpoints, maintaining openness to new ideas—even those that challenge our convictions—is essential. Bryant offers strategies for fostering this openness, highlighting the need for humility and the understanding that our personal truths may not be universal.

Throughout the episode, Bryant shares practical advice, personal reflections, and insightful commentary, guiding listeners on how to integrate these emotional intelligence traits into their daily lives.

Bryant Ellis explores the complexities of anxiety, shedding light on his own experiences with navigating high-pressure scenarios. He uncovers how our inherent need for control is a significant root of anxiety, providing novel insights for those battling with their anxious thoughts.

In this insightful episode, Bryant combines empathy with actionable advice, stressing that anxiety should be seen as a natural reaction to stress, rather than a flaw. He points out that our pursuit of control not only fuels anxiety but also stems from our habit of labeling situations as "good" or "bad." This black-and-white thinking overlooks the unpredictable nature of life and our inability to foresee how events might actually benefit us in the long run.

Bryant offers a strategy to dismantle this cycle by promoting self-awareness, understanding, and practical methods that have helped him lessen the impact of anxiety in his life. He emphasizes the importance of reframing our relationship with anxiety, guiding listeners from a state of overwhelm to one of effective management and peace.

Moreover, Bryant touches on the pivotal realization that much of our anxiety arises from prematurely judging situations, reminding us of the uncertainty of the future and the potential hidden value in seemingly adverse experiences.

This episode is not merely about dealing with anxiety but transforming our engagement with it. Bryant provides steps for anyone looking to reduce anxiety's hold on their daily life, advocating for a life marked by balance, peace, and resilience. Join him as he leads a transformative discussion on living a less anxious life, even amidst the unpredictability and pressures of existence.

Marcus Miller returns to the podcast to talk about one of my favorite subjects.

One of the most important elements of creating a lifestyle that sustains your ability to run after big dreams is learning how to create an eco-system of people to do life with.

Without this, we not only have a lower quality of life, but we don't feel as powerful to take risks and run after the scary things when we don't feel like we have people who are in our corner and care about us when we fail.

In this episode we break down practical steps that we've both taken in different seasons of life to create, build and grow our community.

The title of this episode kinda speaks for itself....

Here is a list of green flags that I look for when dating or "Getting to know someone"

do you need more of a description?  ;)

I feel like we all know someone who is suffering from some form of chromic illness.

From Lyme disease to autoimmune disorders, it can feel helpless, especially as young people, to suffer these kinds of health issues. The inability to do the things that you're used to doing, from not being able to enjoy life as you once knew it. There's a reason that chronic illness has a very high suicide rate.

How do you find life when you're going through times like this?

What are some ways to find hope and joy?

How do you continue to explore your world and enjoy your time on this earth?

If you're not personally going through sickness, what does it look like to be a good friend to someone who is going through this kind of hell?

In this episode I'm joined by Emily Kosky and Michael Ferreira who have both suffered extreme chronic illness such as Cancer and Seizures.
Both which have caused life altering consequences to their day to day lives.

I hope this brings encouragement and hope to anyone going through difficult seasons where it's hard to see light at the end of the tunnel.

In this episode, Marcus Miller and I talk about practical ways to process through pain.

When pain gets left unprocessed, we usually turn to get comfort in the form of unhealthy behaviors or addictions.

I would argue that this is one of the most important things to learn in order to truly live a life of success, freedom, and pursuit of the things that make you come alive.

When we can't navigate through pain in a healthy way, we aren't able to make the kind of forward momentum that could launch us into our passions or the life that we really want to live.

Creativity is one of the most valued gifts I can personally think of.

To some extend, a lot of us see ourselves as creative, but what sets us apart from the average creator, is what we are willing to do with out creativity.

How do we grow in creativity?
How do we tap into more creativity?
What are ways to stimulate our creativity when we feel stuck in our process?

In this episode I talk about boredom and ways I believe that this is actually a gift to the creatives out there.

Whenever we allow someone else's dating experience to create our expectations for dating, we are filtering and narrowing our potential good experiences by holding onto someone else's offense, bitterness and judgment.

Dating can be tricky and sometimes frustrating, but where are we getting most of our data or information from? Our personal experiences or our friends or social medias experience?

I think anyone in the dating arena will be able to appreciate this conversation.

Like any relationship, we can have healthy and unhealthy reliance on them.

We often don't observe what our relationship with our "hopes and dreams" look like. Yet, most of us have spent more time thinking about this relationship than most relationships we have.

Our hopes, dreams, and visions fuel our decisions and create a compass for our actions.

If we aren't intentional with how we approach our dreams, then our dreams and our expectation of what they will bring to our lives will control us in ways that we don't want and ultimately, take away our power to achieve them.

Who doesn’t want to level up their life as a whole?

What are the major obstacles we face when we feel stuck or like we aren’t making progress?

In this episode, I invite you into a potentially “Triggering Reality” about why we aren’t making forward momentum.

I love to see people realize these simple truths, and with most people that I mentor, it begins with embracing this way of thinking.

Learning to process pain and pursue internal success has not been the most fun part of my 20's, but I've experienced more Joy and Fulfillment from that journey than any financial or business success that I've accumulated in my life.

I also talk a little bit about the vision behind this new podcast and why I changed the name from "The Fail Journal" To "The Bryant Ellis Podcast"

The New Year is a time when you have lots of momentum. With an opportunity to start fresh, it can easily feel like your commitment to growth is stronger than ever. But while this momentum may last for weeks, possibly even months, there inevitably comes a time when it runs out. Your goals don’t get checked off as quickly as you thought they would - they start to require more effort than you expected - and suddenly you're enticed by a thousand excuses. That’s why, in this episode, Bryant puts forward the idea that we should expect “the suck.” Even embrace it! Not only is it impossible to avoid, it’s precisely where we rise to the next level. Before thinking about what you want to accomplish in 2022, give this episode a quick listen! Remember: You’ll always suck if you’re afraid to suck.

“It’s about the journey, not the destination” is probably the most cliche phrase in existence. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t true. In this episode, Bryant walks through how he's felt after winning Forbes 30 Under 30. While it feels amazing to be recognized with an award like this one, it’s not nearly as fulfilling as the work that brought him to this place. And not nearly as important as the people who helped him along the way. You won’t want to miss this one!

You don't just wake up one morning and decide you want to be a Hollywood actor. You earn this opportunity through years of practice; through failing and learning from your failure. In this week’s episode, Bryant dives deeper into this topic by introducing three phases: crawling, walking, and running. By not getting ahead of yourself and staying in this order, you know you'll be prepared for the risks you're taking. Because when you AREN'T prepared, and you try to run before you've learned to crawl, you'll end up falling flat on your face! Don't get carried away. Knowing where you are on the journey from beginner to expert is the best way of knowing what to do next.

In this episode of the Fail Journal, Bryant explains why victimhood is the #1 reason why people don’t see their dreams come true. Why? Because it takes your attention away from what you can actually control. You release the power to improve your life when your focus is placed on how you’ve been disadvantaged and not on the opportunities right in front of you. Listen to find out how you can take steps away from this mindset into one that is more solution-oriented!

In this episode, Bryant talks about rejecting and being rejected.  It sucks to give negative feedback and tell someone what they don't want to hear. But if you really think about it, the alternative is worse! If you tell someone exactly what they want to hear, even though it isn't truthful, you're setting them up for a bigger rejection in the future. Aloha everybody! Unlike our other episodes, which are all recorded in Redding, CA, this week’s episode of the Fail Journal was recorded on a porch overlooking the ocean in Hawaii. Bryant and his brother Trey are here to get writing done for an upcoming secret project (Shhhh! It’s a television show!) and since the Fail Journal is about discussing risks, they decided to sit down and talk about the unsettling stage they’re in. With a project as ambitious as this one, there are all kinds of fearful thoughts that flood in: “Are we good enough to be doing this?” But every person navigates thoughts like this before embarking on something special. If you’re in a similar place, getting ready to take on a project where you feel apprehensive or ill-equipped, this episode will be right up your alley!

For you entrepreneurs and creatives, make sure you’re giving your ideas the attention and passion they deserve!

Watching other people succeed can be difficult. Especially if those people are succeeding in the same field you’re in, it’s hard not to see their win as your loss. It’s hard to be excited when you feel like your chances of success just got a little smaller. But this mindset assumes there is a limited amount of success in the world  --and that simply isn’t true! In fact, seeing other people succeed should give us hope that our own success is rapidly approaching. Instead of feeling insecure about the success of others, we should celebrate them. We should be excited that their hard work paid off because they deserve it. And because our hard work will eventually do the same!
