First we are discussing the beginning of Covid 19, quarantining, and social distancing,  and how the multitude of decisions  came on hot and heavy.

Then we touch on how we began to understand the implications of rationalizing the consequences and how we needed to educate ourselves on what we could do better to not feel so overwhelmed by all the decisions we needed to make.

We dig into what components make up decision fatigue, some of the specific effects it has on our lives, including analysis paralysis, ego depletion and avoidance, impulse purchasing and so much more.

After all the heavy stuff, we wrap up with some tactical tips of how to cope, manage and improve how Decisions Fatigue is effecting your life! Lots of golden nuggets and take ways in this episode and  I would love to hear which ones resonated with you!

Both Dana and I run our business's based on deposits.  We discuss candidly about why we take deposits and how they work for securing limited resources. We hope to open up a discussion that most are thinking about, but not talking about. We also discuss why some deposits are refundable, and why some might not be.

QUICK TIPS TO SHARE:

*Getting really clear on identifying the things you CAN control & things that you CAN’T.

Set up a weekly Family meeting to address topics and hold space for one another to be heard.

*** Limit your time on social media and up-to-the-minute news. News should be checked, not watched.

  • Actively remind yourself of reasons not to worry.

*Make it a priority to stay in touch with friends and family.

*Don’t let coronavirus dominate every conversation. It’s important to take breaks from stressful thoughts about the pandemic to simply enjoy each other’s company—to laugh, share stories, and focus on other things going on in our lives.

1. Working from home:
- Take a min to accept that business as usual isn’t a thing any more. What is a MUST and what can and should be put on hold.
- Roles - > who is expected to do what and when?
- Space - take the space you need when you need it and we will all honour that.
- Work Hours - getting your kids to understand parents new work hours (setting up a sign to let them know not to disturb) *make sure to acknowledge if they do well.

  • Try the sticky note “questions for mom” method.

  • Plan for interruptions so you can’t lose it when they happen.

  • Keeping as much “stress” talk away from your kids as possible.

2. Homeschooling from home:

  • GRACE - if you were not a teacher before this all started, don't try to become one over night.
  • Create a 1-week schedule and plan a date when you will come back to revisit it. This gives kids hope that things can adjust if they aren't working and nothing is locked in just yet.

  • Let them feel like they have some kind of say in the lay out of their day.

  • Start each day with laying out one achievement each family member wants to accomplish that day.

  • Be proactive with making sure they move their bodies too!

  • Don’t be afraid to reach out for help if you see someone else doing something you want to try. Don’t stay jealous, connect and ASK, you may just flatter that person.

  • Let go of the extras that are “make work” projects if you can.

3. Self Care from home:

  • adopt a new routine that serves wherever you are at in this season.

  • Mindfulness & Meditation

  • Move your body

  • Gratitude journal

  • Be vulnerable and open to talking about what you are feeling

  • Create a space/time for yourself to be alone if you can.

TAKEAWAYS:

  • Give yourself GRACE over and over
  • LOWER “ISH” Expectation - letting go over perfection
  • Wrapping your mind around what are the new priorities and what can take a back seat for now.
  • Self care is an always thing, so that we build up these practices and habits.
  • Holding space for everyone in the house to feel seen, heard and valued.
